OVERVIEW
Developers Bewley Homes, who specialise in building homes in prime locations, are currently constructing Amberley Park at Tetbury in the heart of the Cotswolds. The collection includes two-bed apartments and maisonettes, semi-detached terraced houses and detached homes.
Assessment of the site determined that low levels of methane, radon and CO2, naturally occurring gases, were present at the site on the London Road in the Cotswold town.
Powerbase Low Perm gas barrier membrane, which was developed by North Yorkshire firm Industrial Textiles and Plastics Ltd, was specified for the project. ITP launched the new membrane last year to meet the need for a barrier membrane to provide protection against the presence low levels of methane, CO2 and radon, and is compliant to NHBC Amber 1 gas protection measures.
Low Perm is BBA certified and independently tested for permeation rates to EN ISO 15105-1. This is the
same standard required by BS8485 Code of practice for the design of protective measures for methane and carbon dioxide ground gases for new buildings, which was revised in 2015.
Paul Harrision, ITP’s geomembrane account manager and technical expert, was an advisor involved in the final draft of the revision of the Code of Practice.
Installation at the Amberley Park development was conducted by ReeveTec Membranes Limited and consisted of a complete line out of the site, sealing all penetrations ready for the concrete pour, using more than 6600 sqm of Powerbase Low Perm.
“It’s a good product, competitively priced and compliant with the ground contaminants at the site,” said Dan Squire, Project Manager at ReeveTec.
ITP are industry leaders in developing technically advanced gas, VOC and hydrocarbon chemical resistant barrier membranes.
