Laing O’Rourke’s Expanded division was awarded the £40m concrete package for substructure and superstructure. Invisible Connections provided a bespoke solution for a challenging continuity strip design. The application called for a twin ‘L’-Bar arrangement with 16mm bars at 100mm centres, set apart vertically by just 125mm, with the added consideration of extra long anchorage legs.
Invisible Connections’ manufacturing capability designed and delivered an offset case detail to house the bars with a staggered hole pattern to allow bars to lay perpendicular during installation. During construction, the design needed to evolve and the orientation of the casing was inverted during manufacture.
