New Royal Adelaide Hospital

New Royal Adelaide Hospital

Construction Specialties

The core function of a hospital is to attend to the physical, emotional, and mental needs of its patients. Also, the environment must be comfortable, clean, and serene to assist with a patient’s recovery. New Royal Adelaide Hospital (NRAH) is a perfect example of a state-of-the-art facility that provides a great service for city of Adelaide and surrounding regions. This 800-bed hospital is the largest hospital in South Australia. Sprawling across 25 acres, containing open green spaces throughout the precinct to assist with healing and relaxation, a commercial zone with underground car park and featuring a comprehensive range of clinical care to an estimated 85,000 inpatients and 400,000 outpatients each year. Many CS products were specified and installed in the development of the New Royal Adelaide Hospital. Our expansion joint covers were installed throughout the interior and exterior of the hospital, these expansion joint covers are critical for the development of the hospital to safely accommodate extreme building movement. An example would be the expansion joint SJHD, this seismic metal floor cover can be used in both interior and exterior settings and can provide 760mm of plus movement during a seismic event, and the expansion joint SGR is perfect for interior applications, it is hygienic and accommodates lightweight wheeled equipment, making it ideal for the NRAH. Our expansion joint covers offer a range of sizes, aesthetics, and performance variations. Each model perfectly suited for different environments. Our Acrovyn products were also installed throughout the NRAH. Acrovyn provides wall and door protection throughout the interior space of the building. In an environment like a hospital where there’s a lot of foot traffic and wheeled movement, it is imperative to have your walls protected from any potential impact. Our SCR-64N crash rail was installed throughout the hospital, mainly in the corridors to protect the walls from the bed carts. The HRB-10C, our handrail/crash rail combination is another product installed, which our ligature resistant featured component (a common feature used in behavioural health facilities) and the HRB-10C was supplied in both our Acrovyn Solid Colours and our Acrovyn Woodgrain as the handrail component. Throughout the hospital, the corners were also protected from damage by installing Acrovyn and Stainless-Steel corner guards. Both corner guards are a simple yet effective solution in protecting the vulnerable areas of the hospital. For hospital settings, Acrovyn is an environmentally friendly product, that is pleasing to the eye but also very functionable. The NRAH has been operating since 1841 and it was a privilege to have CS products featured throughout the hospital.

Sculptform

Ivanhoe’s newest building is a landmark you can’t miss. The facade components of light bricks, dark cladding and luminous aluminium Click-on Battens perfectly complement each other, creating a contemporary finish. The interior also features our battens, which seamlessly connects to the exterior. The building comprises a three-level basement, ground floor retail outlets, two levels of offices and multiple fully appointed apartments among the two upper levels. The building is bordered on three sides by busy public roads which posed logistical challenges with its construction. However, the speed and ease of installing Click-on Battens alleviated this issue on the upper levels. The curved facade is wrapped in Sculptform aluminium Click-on Battens. They were installed upon standard and curved tracks which were delivered to site in a flexible state so that they’re able to be wrapped around the substrate and hug the exterior. Batten clips are factory fixed to the tracks at the spacing sequence that is specified. Helping to save time installing on-site. Battens are simply push-clicked onto mounting tracks that are positioned behind the battens in a concealed manner.

Iconic Maison de l’Ordre des Avocats fire-protected by Hempafire Pro 315

Hempel

With a glass façade symbolising the transparency of justice and a glossy metal exoskeleton, the new Maison de l’Ordre des Avocats (House of the Paris Bar Association) is a stunning addition to the French capital’s new Batignolles judicial city. For the building owner, safety is a top priority. Therefore, the exoskeleton needed a proven passive fire protection coating that would enable the steel to maintain its load-bearing capacity for up to 60 minutes during a fire, giving those inside valuable extra time to evacuate. The challenge Specialist paint application and surface treatment company ROTH & Cie was contracted to apply the passive fire protection coating system. ROTH & Cie has worked with Hempel for many years and was keen to work with us on this project. However, due to the project schedule, the tubular exoskeleton framework was delivered to the construction site with a competitor’s epoxy primer already applied. ROTH & Cie therefore wanted a Hempel passive fire protection system that would work with the existing primer. Also, as building aesthetics are important in the overall design, the exoskeleton needed a high-quality matt satin finish. The solution Our solution was to specify a system of Hempafire Pro 315 and Hempathane 55750. A single component intumescent coating, Hempafire Pro 315 complies with the EN 13501-2 standard for the fire classification of construction products. It is optimised to provide 60 minutes of passive fire protection, as well as partial protection up to 90 minutes. In addition, thanks to its exceptionally low loadings, Hempafire Pro 315 requires significantly lower dry film thicknesses than competitor products. As a result, ROTH & Cie could apply the coating in a thinner coat, significantly reducing paint consumption, application time and project costs. The full system was completed with Hempathane 55750, a polyurethane topcoat with quick crosslinking properties that provides the matt satin appearance required by the specifications. Our dedicated passive fire protection R&D Centre in Barcelona, Spain verified that Hempafire Pro 315 could be applied on top of the existing primer. The entire system was spray applied using an electric airless pump, which is ideal for construction sites as it does not require an air compressor. The project is just another in a long line of successful collaborations with ROTH & Cie, which also include previous passive fire protection coating projects, most notably La Halle Secrétan covered market and La Samaritaine department store, both in Paris. At a glance Project Name: Maison de l’Ordre des Avocats (House of the Paris Bar Association) Customer: ROTH & Cie System: Hempafire Pro 315 + Hempathane 55750 Volume: 4,080 litres

SAS International has designed, manufactured and installed metal ceiling solutions for both interior and exterior areas of the new 74,000m² terminal of the Aeropuerto de Santiago, Spain. SAS810 tricell has been installed to create a triangular aesthetic in the departure lounges. This open cell system provides a geometric form that can easily be repeated for a striking finish. The flexible approach in SAS International’s design process enabled this unique solution to fit within the ‘Y’ shaped designed departure lounge. Installed in the main terminal and baggage hall, as well as exterior ceiling areas, is the linear profile system SAS710. The linear slat ceiling, designed so that each slat lines up neatly with the next, forms a perfect row resulting in clean and simple architectural lines. Chemical termite controls were not an option because of toxicity issues, making a clean and environmentally safe physical termite barrier the correct solution.APPROACHA typical WA site, the college’s location is predominantly flat, with sandy soils and substrates. In general, this type of environment poses a high risk for termite attack common to this region of Western Australia. SOLUTIONThe main challenge with the installation came from the rammed earth exterior walls. Their natural composition can chip easily, so nailing or sealing the termite barrier onto the wall was not practical. Our solution was to install Termimesh cold joint /paver trays to the perimeter of the concrete slab edge. These protected the concealed entry point between the slab and wall. They also engaged into the external pavement instead of against the rammed earth wall itself.BENEFITSThe Termimesh System which comprises of our 725 grade stainless steel mesh, Termiparge bonding cement and high grade stainless steel clamps not only met their strict requirement of no chemicals it will also continue to provide them with reassurance and peace of mind the comes with our market leading Pledge Guarantee. The Pledge Guarantee provides the client with a 10 year guarantee that requires no annual inspections during that initial period. The client then has the option to extend this on an ongoing basis by having an approved annual inspection.

The first stage of a two hectare urban regeneration development in Docklands opened in 2018 and introduced the city of Melbourne’s first elevated public park. Floating 10 metres above open public space, a spectacular Tongue & Groove Cladding Soffit overhangs 90 metres, providing natural warmth and texture and remaining consistent with the design of the project. Installed by our partner installer Casello, the project is an example of how our expert installers can complete a project on time and on budget. Green space in the CBD Biophilic design principles were a key to the design of One Melbourne Quarter, bringing the warmth and beauty of natural materials to the workplace. The most prominent inclusion is the spectacular Skypark, located directly above the entrance of the building, on the second floor. The Skypark is a perfect ‘suspended oasis’, bringing the uniquely relaxing aspects of a local park to the inner city. A statement through a soffit With the Skypark suspended above street level, the underside presented a perfect opportunity for the architects Denton Corker Marshall to create a unique feature which was consistent with the design ambitions of the project. Behind the look Sculptform Tongue & Groove Cladding provided a beautiful natural aesthetic in spotted gum. The combination of visual features and colour variation contrasts the greys of the Melbourne CBD and contributes to the overall identity of the project. PEFC certified timber was required to meet Green Star Rating, which was then sourced by Sculptform.

Termimesh - Protecting Historical Landmarks – Norwood Oval Adelaide

Termimesh

Termi Home & Commercial (SA) were proud to be a part of the historic Norwood Oval Redevelopment project in Adelaide, South Australia. As one of the most iconic football grounds in Adelaide only a non chemical termite management solution would do. We designed and installed the Termimesh System keeping in mind both the historical significance and the new facilities. The suitability of the Termimesh system for this project is based on its flexibility, which was necessary due to complex external geometry of the new construction and integration with the existing buildings. This presented challenges in performing remedial work. For example the Sir Edwin Smith Grandstand is heritage listed meaning minimal work was allowed to the external façade. This is where the strength of our termite management system lies. It can be customised for each individual project. Our estimating and design team will work alongside the architect, marking up plans and explaining how the system is applied to the design. Which in the case of the Norwood Oval was extremely important. We are on hand during the construction phase to iron out any challenges that may arise ensuring the installation process is simple, smooth and straightforward.Termimesh has maintained our position as market leader in termite protection in the South Australian construction industry for over 25 years, with a strong domestic and commercial portfolio. We are one of few companies that are triple certified to AS48001, ISO9001 and ISO14001 which delivers additional peace of mind for our clients.CONSTRUCTION TEAMSchiavello ConstructionOur team has a good relationship with the lead contractor, Schiavello, having worked on past projects together. Ropemaker Place, London

SAS International Australia

SAS International bespoke metalwork comprising of a striking waveform shaped ceiling was designed by architects Arup Associates to feature in the construction of Ropemaker Place, London EC2 for British Land. Simon Anson, architect at Arup Associates comments; “The purpose of the ceiling was to provide the 10.5m tall entrance foyer with an acoustic performance, and create a lighting source providing both uplight and downlight. The illuminated ceiling provides the entrance foyer with visual impact from views of City Point Plaza, Ropemaker Street and The City.” Simon Anson continues, “The appearance of the ceiling is that of a series of illuminated vaulted waves flowing into the interior, the volume of the space perceptually expanded by the uplit waveform surfaces. The vaulted ceiling with its flowing contours provides a visually stunning focal point as well as a practical solution to the acoustic requirements of the interior of the building.” Specialist bespoke wave ceilings were installed in the atrium, main reception area, lift lobbies and main external canopy. The waveform panel, although elegant in appearance, had to have the required strength to support the light fitting. The extra weight posed a significant design challenge of how to integrate and support the light fitting into the waveform panel. The complex design required all fixings to be concealed, as a large proportion of the face and rear of the waveform tiles are visible. In the design development and installation of the system, Arup Associates worked closely with SAS International and the specified lighting manufacturer, Zumtobel, to ensure the panels integrated seamlessly with the luminaires to produce the optimum installation.
