Leading Australian community bank, IMB Bank, has installed a series of Boon Edam entrances, including all glass revolving doors, slimline speedgates and a swing access gate at its new building in Wollongong, NSW.IMB moved into the new building in early 2021, and immediately sought to make the entrance open and welcoming to visitors, with entrance security inside to protect valuable data, intellectual property and people.The Boon Edam technology selected is among the most stylish and efficient of the Boon Edam range used by major banks locally, Fortune 500 companies globally, and corporate HQs in 27 countries.The exterior of the building has two Boon Edam Crystal Tourniket all-glass revolving doors, which create a striking first impression. Inside, there are three Speedlane Lifeline Swing speedgates, including one wide lane suitable for disabled access. In one section, there is also a Winglock Swing access gate that separates off a designated meeting space.“After reviewing a range of product proposals, we found that Boon Edam’s range had the ideal combination of aesthetics and security that IMB was seeking,” said IMB Head of Facilities, Greg Dowd.“The security speedgates give us greater control over access to the building, and they alert us to any tailgating or access breaches. Limiting access to only authorised personnel not only protects our staff, but it also protects the data of our customers, which we always store securely,” he said.“As a further advantage, the Boon Edam team integrated the access control system with our RFID (Radio-Frequency Identification) system. With a glass façade symbolising the transparency of justice and a glossy metal exoskeleton, the new Maison de l’Ordre des Avocats (House of the Paris Bar Association) is a stunning addition to the French capital’s new Batignolles judicial city. For the building owner, safety is a top priority. Therefore, the exoskeleton needed a proven passive fire protection coating that would enable the steel to maintain its load-bearing capacity for up to 60 minutes during a fire, giving those inside valuable extra time to evacuate.The challenge Specialist paint application and surface treatment company ROTH & Cie was contracted to apply the passive fire protection coating system. ROTH & Cie has worked with Hempel for many years and was keen to work with us on this project. However, due to the project schedule, the tubular exoskeleton framework was delivered to the construction site with a competitor’s epoxy primer already applied. ROTH & Cie therefore wanted a Hempel passive fire protection system that would work with the existing primer. Also, as building aesthetics are important in the overall design, the exoskeleton needed a high-quality matt satin finish. The solution Our solution was to specify a system of Hempafire Pro 315 and Hempathane 55750. A single component intumescent coating, Hempafire Pro 315 complies with the EN 13501-2 standard for the fire classification of construction products. It is optimised to provide 60 minutes of passive fire protection, as well as partial protection up to 90 minutes. In addition, thanks to its exceptionally low loadings, Hempafire Pro 315 requires significantly lower dry film thicknesses than competitor products. As a result, ROTH & Cie could apply the coating in a thinner coat, significantly reducing paint consumption, application time and project costs. The full system was completed with Hempathane 55750, a polyurethane topcoat with quick crosslinking properties that provides the matt satin appearance required by the specifications. Our dedicated passive fire protection R&D Centre in Barcelona, Spain verified that Hempafire Pro 315 could be applied on top of the existing primer. The entire system was spray applied using an electric airless pump, which is ideal for construction sites as it does not require an air compressor. 54 Mary Street is an office building nestled in the heart of Brisbane. Spanning over 22 levels, it was no small feat for bureau^proberts to carry out a retrofit of the public washrooms. As part of the refurbishment of male, female, and ADA Accessible washrooms across numerous floors, bureau^proberts had to source a large selection of soap dispensers that would be readily available in large quantities – and ideally, in a particular matte black finish. ASI JD Macdonald were perfectly positioned to provide the solution.

Mass timber is transforming from an innovative new method of construction to a must-have in mid-rise building design, and this RMIT NAS (New Academic Street) project paved the way for Australia to become a leader in mass timber construction. One building in particular, the ‘Garden Building’, designed by NMBW Architects and TCL was a stand out for innovation and creativity. The spectacular design used a 6m mass timber grid and due to the visibility of the structure, glulam was the preferred option to CLT. Victorian ash was chosen as it is an attractive timber, ideal for ‘seen structure’.

PROMINIUM in Natural White has been utilized on this project for Kenworth Trucks. The spectacular result on the sales and service complex is worthy of this iconic brand. The choice of PROMINIUM 3mm Solid Aluminium ensures the façade is rated non-combustible to AS 1530.1 Standards, safeguarding vehicles, plant and personnel.

Britex are proud to be involved in another successful VSBA School Upgrade Project at Upper Yarra Secondary College in Yarra Junction, Victoria. The completion of Stage One of the College’s Upgrade and Modernisation Project saw the inclusion of almost 30 Grade 316 SS Acid Resistant Britex Laboratory Bowls for their state of the art science and technology facilities throughout. A floor mounted 3.5m Vandal Resistant Sanistep Urinal was also installed in the Male Bathrooms complete with Smart Saniflush Sensor Flushing System, a water efficient and hygienic choice ideal for education projects.

With a northerly aspect overlooking serene Lake Orr, a residential apartment development in Varsity Lakes, Queensland, is setting a new standard in waterside living. Set over seven levels, the two and three bedroom apartments of “South Lakes at Varsity” all feature inviting balconies to capitalise on the location, accessed through Alspec’s Altitude Apartment Sliding Doors.

There were two sets of challenges involved in the Rosewood Aged Care.Firstly, waterproofing the basement. The basement was excavated around a heritage-listed building, which had to stay undamaged for the duration of the works. Piles and shotcrete were implemented for the construction, but there was no scope to install a membrane due to space and other limitations. The Markham BASE-TECT system was ideal for this situation.Second were the requirements for moisture control and permanent hygiene protection for the interior floor slabs of the residential parts of the building. This is a more routine challenge, faced by aged care facilities with concrete floor slabs. AQURON 2000 MEDI+ was selected for concrete curing enhancement and permanent hygiene sealing.

The Forensic Pathology & Coroner's Court is located in Lidcombe NSW. Fairview's deemed-to-satisfy non-combustible Vitracore G2 panels were chosen to achieve the unique exterior as designed by Silver Thomas Hanley and Cox Architecture, The design features vertical fins with pyramid details in five complementary finishes - Fresh Green, Pure White, Cool Grey from Fairview standard range and custom colours. Designed by Tony Owen Partners, Breezway Altair Louvre Windows were recommended to the Developer by the Architects at Tony Owen Partners due to their visually appealing aesthetics, the products full certification and compliance with Australian Standards, and Breezway’s strong reputation in the window industry. Altair Louvres with the Stronghold System have been strategically placed on the corner of the building as a key visual feature. Being a high quality window system, Altair Louvres will provide protection from the elements and are restricted to comply with Fall Prevention requirements.

The Well is a beautiful sanctuary at Bondi Beach in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs. The Dyson Airblade V hand dryer has been implemented on this project and it dries hands in just 12 seconds. Yet compared to paper towels, it reduces running costs by up to 99% and produces up to 81% less CO2. It's also hygienic: with HEPA filters installed as standard, it captures 99.95% of particles the size of bacteria from air used to dry hands and does away with paper towel mess.

ABN Group chose a site in Leederville, WA, for a new state-of-the-art headquarters building. This included a multi-level office, ground floor commercial tenancies, end-of trip facilities, and parking for approximately 160 cars.The project demanded high standards for quality, had a construction time frame of 87 weeks, and was to be five-star Green Star rated.These considerations had an impact on the selection of finish for the car park floors, which is where MARKHAM became involved in the project.AQURON 1000 was selected for enhanced concrete curing, permanent sealing, and deep anti-dust hardening.

The City of Adelaide owned and operated UPark Gawler Place provides locals and visitors with easily accessible parking in the center of Adelaide. Open 7 days a week, the undercover parking facility required an urgent trafficable waterproof deck coatingsolution.Flowcrete Australia was consulted on how the operators could prevent water leakage into the tenancies located below, whilst ensuring the structural integrity of the parking facility was maintained. An added challenge was that the facility needed to remain operational throughout the installation.Deckshield ED Rapide was the ideal solution for the unique challenges at UPark Gawler Place. The hybrid PUMMA system features the Deckshield PDS Membrane which is certified by CSIRO to AS 4654.1.2012 - the system was designed to prevent the water leakage faced by the car park operators.Over 5,500m² of Deckshield ED Rapide was applied throughout the facility. The installation took approximately 2 months to complete, as the applicators were required to approach the project section by section, whilst liaising with traffic management to ensure parking operations were minimally disrupted and the facility remained open to patrons.

The legendary Peninsula Hotel in the heart of Paris was undergoing a large renovation project and the project’s architect, who specialised in the restoration of exceptional establishments, decided on three Boon Edam Crystal Tourniket revolving doors and one Circleslide to fit their brief of installing a transparent and luxurious entrance. Built in 1908 to host the palace “Hotel Majestic”, this palace hotel was due for of an extensive renovation to offer modern facilities, standards and technology while still preserving its historic roots. The restoration took 4 years to complete and the end result is a five-star contemporary hotel which maintains and respects the spirit of the original institution. The project involved working with the finest artisans with an ancestral knowledge of this landmark building. The architectural renovation was led by AFFINE DESIGN, one of the major architecture and interior design offices in Paris

Now, and after years of meticulous renovation and restoration, the Miesian Plaza is set to welcome its new tenants, including the likes of Ireland’s Department of Health. Aiming to achieve the highest LEED platinum accreditation, architects Scott Tallon Walker have said their goal is: “To provide Grade A accommodation of the highest modern standard to equal or surpass the finest developments in the market.” Combining sustainable high-grade services all encased in a bronze-tinted double-glazed window motif, the building achieves the architect’s bold aim to create a building like no other. SAS International designed and manufactured products for three of the Miesian Plaza’s blocks. As the building module size is imperial, SAS was able to provide bespoke C profile width to maintain the buildings original 64 1/2” planning module.

Sydney Airport is the busiest airport in Australia and one of the oldest continually running airports in the world, with an average of 44 million passengers visiting the airport each year, from domestic to international travellers.With the large amount of people coming to Sydney Airport on a daily basis, there is always potential for dirt and moisture from the soles of shoes to enter the facility, which can cause the floor to be dirty and a risk of people injuring themselves. To eliminate the risk of hazards to visitors, the CS Pedigrid entrance mat with Graphite inserts was specified to combat the dirt and debris.Not only is the Pedigrid aesthetically pleasing but it also offers high performance in terms of rolling load capability and dirt and moisture trapping, making it ideal for areas with high foot and wheel traffic. The Pedigrid is a 44mm deep, recess mounted system of removable grill sections that allows dirt, water, and other waste to fall between the heel proof treads into the matwell below, this can significantly reduce the cleaning and maintenance frequencies.Overall, the Pedigrid for Sydney Airport is proven to combat dirt and debris entering the building, whilst maintaining entrance area aesthetics and overall passenger safety.

The Steamrail Adventure Playground at Millars Landing is part of a large residential development in North Baldivis, WA. Created with growing families in mind, the development includes numerous playgrounds, parks and family areas all based around the theme of steam trains, water towers and timber milling. The outdoor play equipment boasts two flying foxes, a 12-metre slide, swing sets, a climb-on steam train structure, picnic facilities, kickabout turf areas, robust timber furniture and railway sleepers. adventure+ took the idea of the landscape architect, which was a simple sketch, and turned it into a practical result. Her idea provided the foundation of the playground design, and the adventure+ team were able to reflect this idea in a way that was economical, standards compliant and required minimal design and installation time. The client’s greatest challenge was finding a company that could accurately make the structure, something adventure+ was able to do.

Acoustic SAS International metal ceiling systems were installed in the eight-storey Eqwater office building in Paris. SAS International’s SAS330 was installed throughout the office areas in the building. SAS330 is a lay-in metal ceiling tile system that provides functionality and outstanding acoustic performance for a range of cost-effective design options. The practical nature of its structure allows ease of construction and maintenance. The corridors of the building were fitted with SAS International’s SAS205. In some areas it is not possible to use a standard hanging bracket due to the number of services in the ceiling void, SAS205 is supported at the perimeters, up to a maximum width of 3000mm, making it a perfect solution for corridors. Metal offers an inert and inherently hard-wearing surface, making metal ceiling systems both hygienic and a low-maintenance option over the course of their lifespan. Only a simple cleaning routine is required. The lifespan of SAS International’s metal ceilings is in excess of 25 years with only very basic maintenance.

The facade components of light bricks, dark cladding and luminous aluminium Click-on Battens perfectly complement each other, creating a contemporary finish. The building comprises a three-level basement, ground floor retail outlets, two levels of offices and multiple fully appointed apartments among the two upper levels. The building is bordered on three sides by busy public roads which posed logistical challenges with its construction. However, the speed and ease of installing Click-on Battens alleviated this issue on the upper levels. The curved facade is wrapped in Sculptform aluminium Click-on Battens. They were installed upon standard and curved tracks which were delivered to site in a flexible state so that they’re able to be wrapped around the substrate and hug the exterior. Batten clips are factory fixed to the tracks at the spacing sequence that is specified. Helping to save time installing on-site. Battens are simply push-clicked onto mounting tracks that are positioned behind the battens in a concealed manner.

A perfect blend of simplicity and function, ASI’s exclusive Ultimate Privacy™ offers zero sightline doors and pilasters that meet in a flush finish, with routed, overlapping closures to guarantee total privacy. ASI partitions are offered in a range of standard and custom colors, with crisp design lines, bold hardware options, and superior functionality that’s perfect for high-profile settings like Hayward Field. The self-closing feature of the Alpaco™ doors delivered a sleek, uniform appearance whether the facilities are in use or not.

When entering the new Segerstedthuset building at the Uppsala University in Sweden – guests, students and employees alike are cheerfully greeted by a colourful revolving door. This unique door is an art installation by renowned American artist Spencer Finch and is aptly named ‘The Colour Wheel’. The artist is best known for installations that visualise his experience of the nature of light, colour, memory. The Uppsala University is the oldest university research university in the Nordic area and this large facility is located in Uppsala, Sweden - educating 45000 students. The new Segerstedthuset building, designed by 3XN is a multi-purpose extension to the university and was conceptualised and constructed as a modern workplace for researchers, university administration and management. Boon Edam Sweden was approached to supply Spencer Finch with two Tourniket revolving doors. The doors measure a diameter of 3000 mm and a total height of 2400 mm and the 6 glass door panels provide the canvas for the light installation artist to work his magic on. Colour film is fitted between the glass which creates a truly remarkable and memorable entry experience into this urban, communal space. The Segerstedthuset building was built as a sustainable building and proved to meet high environmental standards such as efficient energy use, sound material choices and a silent indoor environment. The building is environmentally certified according to the Sweden Green Building Council at the silver level.
