Construction Specialties recently supplied the A6370 Acoustic Louvre to the Bank of China Sydney branch, to combat noise pollution for the adjacent Oaks hotel whilst providing essential airflow to the plant machinery behind it.

GWA provided a complete solution for Central Equity’s landmark 43-level MainPoint Apartment complex in Melbourne. The Kangy Angy Maintenance Centre is a railway depot located on the Central Coast, New South Wales The 24-hour-run Kangy Angy Maintenance Facility was purpose-built for the new intercity fleet, where trains will be washed, maintained and serviced. It

This innovative, multi-level residential building in central Adelaide is fitted with water and energy efficient fixtures and fittings by GWA Bathrooms & Kitchens, in partnership with DFC/Housing. Located at 102 Waymouth Street, the building consists of 146 apartments for Housing SA and 30 youth service apartments.

Rondo has worked alongside award winning NWCI on the Brisbane Supreme Court House based in central Brisbane since 2008. The $570million project crosses both traditional and modern features off their list, remaining true to their heritage whilst tying in the new wave of environmentally friendly and sustainably efficient buildings.

Northpoint Tower, centrally located in North Sydney CBD has been overhauled, with the redevelopment project including a newly-constructed hotel and a complete reclad of the façade using Vitracore G2.The use of Vitracore G2 in this reclad project has ensured a deemed non-combustible, durable and modern appearance to the development. THE CHALLENGE: House 30+ new HVAC&R mechanical plant equipment and vents. Retrofitted to the roof of a large, multi-level shopping centre without interrupting regular retail operations.THE SOLUTION: We supplied over 30 EasyMech MR (purlin mount) and Span+ (rafter mount), HVACR platforms in Kit form.Our Span+ (rafter-mount) system, was designed to be 100% penetration-free and installed on the surface of the roof over the rafters.We also supplied walkways, up & overs, and ladders – all in Kit form! Currently, Quest is on an aggressive expansion drive throughout Australia, with seven projects to be completed over the next 12 months. Specifically, the freshly completed Quest on Franklin in Central Adelaide of which, Rondo has provided over 200,000l/m worth of product. Working alongside Kyren Group, Ceiling Express and Cheesman Architects, Rondo delivered frequent technical design support, as well as stock level forecasting which was imperative to control the crane lifts.

Sculpform Design Studio in central Melbourne is designed by Woods Bagot and utilises Curved Timber Battens to create a stunning studio space for us to work collaboratively with the clients. Working with Australia’s leading architects and builders is Sculpform's strength, and the vision behind the studio was an environment to foster and enhance that collaboration process. Far from a typical showroom, the studio centres around the Co-lab workshop, where clients can interact and understand the practicalities of the products.

Hospitality and security are often at odds with each other. The challenge is to find the best compromise between Fort Knox and a warm welcome. Telecom company Liberty Global recently carried out a major renovation of their head office in Schiphol-Rijk – the Netherlands. As part of the project, the access security was considerably tightened, without affecting their brand’s desired welcoming appearance. Liberty Global is an international telecommunication and television company. It is also one of the largest internet service providers outside the USA. Liberty Global operates in 14 countries and has 35,000 employees. The head office is based in London and additionally there are central offices in Amsterdam and Denver. Consumer brands that belong to Liberty Global include VodafoneZiggo (50% Joint Venture with Vodafone), Virgin Media, UPC, Unitymedia and Telenet. In the high-quality business park - Schiphol-Rijk, Liberty Global have seven office buildings, which, collectively, employ a total of around 1600 people of 55 nationalities. "We did have manned security at the main entrance, but that solution did not always prevent people from entering our central hall unnoticed," says Simon Kuitert, who holds the position of Corporate Security Manager at Liberty Global. "That is why we introduced a single point of entry for the recent renovation."

The ABC project in Melbourne’s Southbank precinct represents a bold union of the national broadcaster’s multiple aims and responsibilities. With its bold style, internal and external openness and highly innovative use of technology, the ABC’s Victorian headquarters embodies socially responsible design. The central design theme of transparency is perfectly suited to the Capral curtain wall, window and door systems throughout. The building, which designer Cox Architecture characterise as fostering a ‘dynamic, integrated and visually transparent environment which promotes interaction across program teams’, also invites ‘greater public interest and participation’.

TenneT's former head office at the Arnhems Buiten business park has been renovated and converted into one of the most sustainable office buildings in the Netherlands. It is now the head office of DNV GL's energy branch, which employs 2,500 energy experts worldwide. It is DNV GL's largest office building in the Netherlands. The site accommodates about 400 DNV GL employees and covers about 10,000 m2 of office and lab space. The building has achieved an A energy label thanks to innovations such as the use of seasonal thermal energy storage, solar panels, HR +++ glass and a highly efficient heating and cooling system. Boon Edam installed a sliding door at the main entrance, and three Speedlane Slide access gates and two Winglock 900 swing barrier gates in the central hall behind the main entrance to prevent unauthorised entry.

Ferrero’s new global HQ gathers in one building with nearly 1,300 people, previously spread over five different offices. The building, with a total floor space of almost 30,000 m², opened in December 2019. The building is designed to evoke the atmosphere of an Italian square: a vast atrium is surrounded by two multi-storey office wings. Boon Edam was appointed to craft and install the golden revolving door, on behalf of facade builder Groven + Portal, who in turn worked for general contractor Felix Giorgetti. The colour of the revolving door makes a visual reference to the world-famous golden chocolate - Ferrero Rocher. The Casa Ferrero administrative building consists of two blocks built on a common basement. It was the combination of these plots, and the architectural skills, that resulted in what you see today: a building that is both impressive and elegant as well as being a pleasant and functional workplace for the employees of the food group. Ferrero’s colours are subtly incorporated into the classic facades, with bronze tones and a gilded effect over the windows as well as the entrance glass panels. This effect was achieved by applying a gold-coloured textile fabric to the laminated glass during the project’s construction. Behind the glass facade of the entrance, the most jaw-dropping area of Ferrero’s headquarters unfolds - a central atrium that connects the two blocks and is entirely covered by a glass roof. The spacious atrium is designed to function as a reception and meeting space. Horizontal circulation between the two blocks is facilitated by connecting walkways with a range of 20 meters. The vertical circulation occurs through panoramic glass elevators. The central atrium’s glass-roofed space is open to life within the company and encourages interaction between employees. This 11-storey building, including six upper levels (ground floor + 5 floors) and five lower levels, adapts perfectly to its urban surroundings. The office areas are spread over nine floors, taking advantage of maximum light for the interior space. Levels -3 to -5 include technical areas and parking spaces. Ferrero’s wish was for a functional and pleasant building for everyone who works there. We think they have achieved this in spades!

With its glass walls, transparent façade and LED lighting, the Victor J. Koningsberger building, in the suburb of Uithof in Utrecht, cannot help but capture the eyes of all passers-by. The Viktor J. Koningsbergergebouw is dedicated to the faculties of Geosciences, Science and Medicine was designed by the renowned Rotterdam-based Ector Hoogstad Architects. This latest building addition to the University of Utrecht opted for a revolving door at their main entrance. The 3-winged Tourniket revolving door was custom-made and has been constructed almost entirely of glass. Director and project architect Joost Ector said, "The entrance had to be functional and recognisable, but also belong to the story of the building." The three central themes in the design of this iconic building are lightness, openness and transparency. All of these properties can be clearly seen in the building’s façade and play an important role at the main entrance. This bespoke revolving door towers at an impressive nine meters height. However, at this height issues such as rotating parts stand in the way, so a different solution needed to be chosen. Watch the video below to see which route architect Joost Ector selected and why.

The Hadspen Bull Run Reserve playground is an excellent example of a community playground that suits everyone! Located within the Meander Valley Council in Tasmania, the park is a central hangout for the community in Hadspen. The vast range of equipment within the park is what makes this playground so special. There is something for all ages and interests, with a play unit, flying fox, multi-user rocker, wheelchair carousel, swings, single rocker, interactive panels, and a fitness station. While there is plenty for children, the fitness station also provides for the older demographic that may be minding the children on the playground, or doing their morning workout. Having the playground accessible was an important feature in the brief provided to adventure+. To reflect this, our design team included rubber paths for access through the playground, with access to low-level interactive panels and a wheelchair carousel. With our serious approach to play, we always aim to make our playground designs engaging and enjoyable. But, making the playground attractive is also essential. Selecting a modern colour scheme, as well as a play panel with an engraved bull image, makes the playground enticing, and ties the design to the name of the park.

This unique offset ellipse design tower had to allow the ceiling to flow around the building. A bespoke SAS330 metal ceiling system was specified incorporating trapezoidal panels. Trust Tower forms one of three new tower blocks; part of the Central Market development. The first tower to be completed is tower three a 59-storey commercial office development. The tower is a unique offset ellipse design, to allow the ceiling to flow around the building a bespoke. SAS330 metal ceiling system was specified incorporating trapezoidal panels. Enabling a monolithic finish to the ceiling plane, black service troughs house recessed lighting and other MEP services; this enables maximum acoustic performance to be achieved from the ceiling tiles. Over 900 different sized ceiling tiles were manufactured and installed throughout the project. Metal ceilings provide durability, accessibility to the ceiling void and low maintenance. The life-span of SAS International’s metal ceilings is in excess of 25 years with only very basic maintenance. The entrance mezzanine area features a four-storey high ceiling finished in midnight blue, providing a dramatic entrance to this iconic building.

Monash University’s Clayton campus was recently awarded three major architecture awards by the Australian Institute of Architects for the second year running.The precinct consists of four new residential buildings with associated retail and informal learning spaces, with each of the buildings having its own individual architectural style.The project includes designs from four different architects including Hayball, Jackson Clements Burrows Architects (JCB), Richard Middleton Architects and McBride Charles Ryan, with master planning from MGS Architects and partners.Central to the design are the powder coated aluminium elements featured across each of the buildings, ranging from sharp blacks and silvers on one building through to bright and exuberant colours on another, driving home the individuality of each designer.Among the award winning designs, the Logan Hall residency, designed by McBride Charles Ryan was recognised by the judges for its excellence in architectural skill and merit of design. Interpon Black Ink was used for the shading devices and window frames, with Interpon Eternal Silver Satin specified for the weather panels above the ground floor retail.“As we were conscious of long term maintenance as well as creating an ongoing pleasing presence, the products used on the project were chosen for their intrinsic beauty and longevity,” says Debbie Ryan of McBride Charles Ryan.“The pattern is intentionally complex. We have used honest and time proven Interpon products which have all come together in a really joyful way through composition.”Having previously worked on the colourful The Icon apartment complex in St Kilda designed by JCB, Interpon’s Specification Expert Gareth Connell understands the importance of tailored palette when vibrancy and colour are central to a project.“We knew the design brief called for a exuberant range of colours for a wide range of building elements and performance of this aesthetic. We knew we’d have a proven high performance finishing solution that would maintain the performance requirements for such a high profile project, which is why Interpon D2525 Super Durable polyester powder coat was specified.”In contrast to the more ‘simple’ colour scheme used for Logan Hall, the Turner Hall building, designed by JCB, is defined by its bright colours, using a rainbow of ten different colours from the Interpon colour palette to create a vibrant and refreshing appearance that has revitalised the University as a whole, traditionally known for its dull brown buildings.A coloured ‘hood’ at the window of each sole occupant studio glows at night, enhancing the colour spectrum. Custom colours from the Interpon Ultriva™ collection were used for aluminium elements including extrusions, sheets, flashings, cladding, trims and fins.The complexities of the ambitious project required careful consideration and planning between the architects and powder coating supplier. The vibrant design brief lent itself to Interpon’s unique small batching facilities in Sunshine, Melbourne, that cater for such striking colour schemes in a cost effective and timely manner.Throughout the project, specialists from Interpon Powder Coatings worked closely with the multiple architectural teams involved in the project to ensure the perfect colour palette was developed for the best results both in individual building design and the project as a whole.In specifying the Interpon D2525 series, the designers were ensured significantly higher gloss retention and resistance to colour change along with maximum film integrity guaranteeing long term cosmetic and functional protection. The apartments have been selected for their ideal positions within the resort, relaxed atmosphere and unparralled quality facilities set the scene for pure enjoyment.The ChallengeWhen you are working with one of the most prestigious resorts in Port Douglas where the highest quality of facilities, services and experiences are expected, you need to provide unparalled results. Also when your guests are paying a premium price, your solution needs to be low odour so as to not disrupt the experience of paying guests whilst the work is being completed. The harsh North Queensland conditions demand a high quality product strong enough to withstand all types of weathering. So when Sea Temple Apartments discovered a problem with their waterproofing a high quality but aesthetically pleasing solution was the only option.Tremco SolutionWith the contractor previously using liquid membranes, a more robust and durable solution was needed which would also provide the warranty, demanded of a high quality building such as Sea Temple.Having previously completed many other successful projects with Tremco Systems, the applicator had trust in the Tremco solution, and a dual layer of Tremproof Torch 3000 seemed the logical choice for this end high development. The low VOC and odour levels of Tremproof Torch 3000 helped seal the deal in the built up 5 star accommodation to reduce neighbourhood discomfort.

SAS International designed and manufactured a range of solutions for the new 75,000 square metres Terminal 2 at Dublin Airport, Ireland. According to Dublin Airport the new second terminal will be capable of comfortably handling up to 15 million passengers per year. Specification demanded that durability, ease of maintenance and acoustics were considered. SAS International worked with architects Pascall + Watson to design the ceiling solution answering the architect’s brief to factor in ongoing maintenance conducted by Facilities Management teams in the future. The design of these large sized ceiling panels required careful consideration at design stage to ensure they would be manageable when working at a height. Designed and developed specifically for Dublin Airport was 35,000 square metres of ceiling systems, installed in the main departure area, walkways and baggage handling areas. This solution looks like any other suspended metal ceiling system as it provides an aesthetically pleasing flush finish. But where this product differs is its ingenious way of allowing access to the ceiling void and services for ongoing essential maintenance. This is of particular benefit in high traffic areas such as Dublin airport as it enables a corridor to remain in use rather than having to close off the entire route. SAS International manufactured the 20,000m2 of large aluminium frames for the fabric ceilings which creates a striking central feature. Working closely with SAS International were local installers Platt and Reilly who applied the stretched fabric to the frames on-site and hoisted them into position. Creating a comfortable environment for traveller and worker was helped with the use of acoustic floating rafts and perforated metal ceiling solutions (with integrated acoustic pads) to provide the necessary acoustic control for this project. Lighting was suspended neatly between the rafts to also provide a modern finish to the corridors. In addition Perimeter heating and air handling grilles also enhance the experience.

The Farr Institute in Edinburgh is a collaboration between six Scottish Universities and the NHS National Services Scotland. They aim to place the country as a global leader in health informatics research whilst improving the health of the Scottish population. 30,000 sq. ft. has been fitted out to accommodate Bio Incubator laboratories and offices together with meeting, conference and dining facilities. The remainder of the building will accommodate laboratories and offices for life science research. SAS International’s acoustic baffles were specified to meet acoustic demand and make the most of the high ceilings and breathable space. The colours, baffle layout and service integration were carefully co-ordinated to the brief. SAS130 and SAS330 were specified and installed in the central core. Both systems offer quick and easy access to otherwise hidden mechanical and electrical systems. With SAS130, tiles can be lifted out to gain access to the ceiling void. SAS330’s hinge notch allows tiles to be hung vertically from C-Profiles, providing unobstructed access to the ceiling void. Ray Kwiecinski at Michael Laird Architects gave the below quote on working with SAS International; “MLA has specified a variety of SAS International’s lay-in grid ceiling systems over the years and we have always been extremely satisfied with the finished product. At the Farr Institute however, we decided to create a feature of the structural soffits and the M&E services and, by careful coordination of these services, the steel beams… [With] the SAS Baffle System and SAS Raft System 600, we were able to create an open, collaborative and exciting office environment whilst maintaining a high degree of sound absorbency. Our Client is delighted with the results as are we.” The Institute’s independent research will support innovation in the public sector, leading to advances in preventative medicine, improvements in NHS care and better development of commercial drugs and diagnostics.

The unit is Antibacterial Soap resistant, allowing for its users to maintain optimal hygiene without wear and tear. Needing nominal maintenance, the B4112 is ideal for high traffic locations. Exhibiting a Satin Finish, the unit is a subtle addition to the facilities whilst simultaneously complimenting the silver notes in the Washroom design.Also pictured below is RBA’s Bobrick Trimline™ Recessed 2-in-1 Combination Unit, containing both a Paper Towel Dispenser and Waste Receptacle B38034. This also entails considering the climate impacts of this project. EcoPact - Zero ConcreteWe will need tons of concrete and other materials for the structure of our new Universal Store home. But the good news is that some pioneers are investing in research and development to deliver carbon neutral concrete.We are working closely with our construction partners - developer TradeCoast Central, and builder McNab to deliver a sustainable building. The Universal Store new purpose-built facility will make use of carbon neutral concrete supplied locally by Holcim. Their EcoPact concrete can be made carbon neutral by compensating for residual carbon emissions. In fact this product is so much better for the planet, it has just won the Best of the Best 2021 Sustainability Awards from Architecture and Design.We chose this product to achieve the following benefits:·Conserve natural resources - the product uses alternative materials (fly ash, blast furnace slag or silica fume) instead of virgin raw materials (mainly limestone and silica). ·Reduce the carbon footprint of the project - this product achieves a reduction of 30-100% of embodied emissions related to concrete usage in comparison to standard concrete. ·Use our influence and leadership to support the transition to a low carbon economy·Demonstrate that a sustainable future is within reach.

Supercar, Super FinishThe new Porsche dealership in central Hamburg provides customers with the high-level comfort, convenience and safety associated with the brand. A striking new complex is being erected in Hamburg city centre, which includes the Porsche Center Hamburg Alstergate, due to open this spring. Hamburg is a leading Porsche stronghold, reputed to have the highest density of Porsche owners in the world, with a 0.8% quota of the city’s car population and nearly 1,000 vehicles a year sold regionally since 2014. Covering almost 8,000m2 of land, the Alstergate plot has over 200 parking spaces, including an underground car park with valet parking service. Attending to the growing Porsche model range, the building will have four new charging points for electric and hybrid vehicles and will be one of the few German competence centres for the 918 Spyder supercar and Carrera GT. Along with the new building, Porsche’s workforce in the region is set to grow to 115 employees.Such a prominent Porsche dealership in northern Germany’s foremost metropolis demands extraordinary standards from the construction and décor contractors entrusted with the project. Applicators Strahl, Reinigungs & Anstrichtechnik of Kiel, with whom Hempel already has long-standing commercial relations, were required to produce the extra smooth surface finishes sought by thedesigners. Furthermore, public safety is an inherent factor that has to be considered in all aspects of construction, so applicators chose to apply Hempacore One as the intermediate coat on ready-primed steelworks, prior to finishing with a topcoat of our Hempathane 87481 enamel.Both Hempacore One 43600 and its fast-drying 43601 version provide up to 120 minutes retardation in the event of fire, a factor of great importance in buildings designed for public access. Significantly on this occasion, Hempacore One does not just offer excellent passive fire protection but also certain additional features of great value to designers and applicators alike. The fact that its full fire retardant properties can be achieved with much lowerlayer thicknesses makes for speedier work and also more natural aesthetics on visible steelwork. Lower layer thickness naturally means less paint consumption, thus allowing project managers to make significant savings.Porsche’s new state-of-the-art centre in Hamburg underlines the company’s values of Tradition & Innovation; Performance & Practicality; Design & Functionality; and Exclusiveness & Social Acceptance and the professional application of Hempel coatings help to uphold and enhance those same values.
