The Canberra Hospital features the following RBA products:RBA8851-137 in their recently completed Bariatric Ward rooms.Canberra Hospital is the major public medical establishment based in Australia’s Capital Territory, with 672 beds to cater for the territory’s population of 550,000. The Hospital provides services including acute inpatient and day services, outpatient services, women’s and children’s services, paediatrics and pathology. Canberra Hospital is also a hub for education and research, remaining as the main teaching hospital for the Australian National University Medical School and the University of Canberra’s Nursing School. Canberra Hospital additionally accommodates for Clinical Pastoral Care institutions based in Sydney. RBA was thrilled to participate on a project that could better the experiences of both a myriad of patients and students.Canberra Hospital reached out to RBA to provide for a number of brand new Bariatric Rooms and one “Super Bariatric Room” during a refurbishment of the hospital’s orthopaedics services. These amenities are essential to providing comfortable care for individuals struggling with the growing obesity crisis, the Super Bariatric Room catering to people weighing up to half a tonne. As a result, RBA had to supply high quality, heavy duty bariatric facilities, whilst keeping a homely character to make patients comfortable in the clinical environment. Made of Stainless Steel, the toilet can withstand loads of up to 910 kg with no measurable deflection and 2200 kg with no permanent damage, maintaining strong and secure for its intended usage. Furthermore, the 304-type, or “Food Grade” Stainless Steel is constructed with corrosion resistance and allows for optimal hygiene. The unit supplied to Canberra Hospital has an optional P or S Trap, coming in an Enviro-Glaze® White Finish, best suited for the setting. However, this unit is also offered Enviro-Glaze® White external finish and a Stainless Steel internal finish, or a Stainless Steel total finish. Moreover, the unit is water-saving, holding a 3 Star (6.0L FF/3.0L HF/3.6L AF) WELS rating. The unit can additionally be accompanied by RBA’s Big John Bariatric Toilet Seat, or the RBA8186-853.

The unit is Antibacterial Soap resistant, allowing for its users to maintain optimal hygiene without wear and tear. Needing nominal maintenance, the B4112 is ideal for high traffic locations. Exhibiting a Satin Finish, the unit is a subtle addition to the facilities whilst simultaneously complimenting the silver notes in the Washroom design.Also pictured below is RBA’s Bobrick Trimline™ Recessed 2-in-1 Combination Unit, containing both a Paper Towel Dispenser and Waste Receptacle B38034. Chemical termite controls were not an option because of toxicity issues, making a clean and environmentally safe physical termite barrier the correct solution.APPROACHA typical WA site, the college’s location is predominantly flat, with sandy soils and substrates. In general, this type of environment poses a high risk for termite attack common to this region of Western Australia. SOLUTIONThe main challenge with the installation came from the rammed earth exterior walls. Their natural composition can chip easily, so nailing or sealing the termite barrier onto the wall was not practical.Our solution was to install Termimesh cold joint /paver trays to the perimeter of the concrete slab edge. These protected the concealed entry point between the slab and wall. The Gateway building In Sydney’s Circular Quay is Australia’s first office tower to use fully integrated touchless 3D fingerprint scanning to allow authorised office workers and guests into the building. The building’s new entrance involves a complex integration of security and technology experts, including Boon Edam, Schindler Lifts, Honeywell and IDEMIA (the manufacturers of MorphoWave fingerprint scanning technology). The solution had to work seamlessly to enhance the user experience and building security for tenants and visitors at the 46-storey landmark building in Sydney’s CBD, owned by Dexus Wholesale Property Fund. Monash University’s Clayton campus was recently awarded three major architecture awards by the Australian Institute of Architects for the second year running.The precinct consists of four new residential buildings with associated retail and informal learning spaces, with each of the buildings having its own individual architectural style.The project includes designs from four different architects including Hayball, Jackson Clements Burrows Architects (JCB), Richard Middleton Architects and McBride Charles Ryan, with master planning from MGS Architects and partners.Central to the design are the powder coated aluminium elements featured across each of the buildings, ranging from sharp blacks and silvers on one building through to bright and exuberant colours on another, driving home the individuality of each designer.Among the award winning designs, the Logan Hall residency, designed by McBride Charles Ryan was recognised by the judges for its excellence in architectural skill and merit of design. Interpon Black Ink was used for the shading devices and window frames, with Interpon Eternal Silver Satin specified for the weather panels above the ground floor retail.“As we were conscious of long term maintenance as well as creating an ongoing pleasing presence, the products used on the project were chosen for their intrinsic beauty and longevity,” says Debbie Ryan of McBride Charles Ryan.“The pattern is intentionally complex.
