SAS International designed and manufactured products for three of the Miesian Plaza’s blocks. As the building module size is imperial, SAS was able to provide bespoke C profile width to maintain the buildings original 64 1/2” planning module.

About the ProjectThis Child Health and Learning facility in Manly, deliversspecialist child healthcare for up to 15,000 families a yearfrom rural, regional and remote New South Wales andbeyond.The new facility will integrate a state-of-the-art child schooland health service that will accommodate regional childrenand families nationwide.This six storey building includes school classrooms,consultant and observation rooms, a paediatric oral healthunit with a dental and orthodontics room, ophthalmology,occupational therapy, sensory rooms and a telecare centre.ChallengeOver 80% of construction litigation and defect claims are a result of water ingress, of that 80%, almost 30% of those are below grade issues. (City Futures Research Centre UNSW).The two biggest waterproofing challenges for this build were:1) Below Grade - Non structural Blinding Slab, 4 metres below sea level and less then 50 metres from Manly Beach. This build had decanters pumping over 1.3 million litres of water per day awayfrom the site during the construction phase.2) The creation of a waterproofing solution which would not fail if the membrane was penetrated, be it in the pre or post construction phase.Due to the proximity to the beach and the build having a raft slab in the basement, a standard cookie cutter below-grade waterproofing solution was not an option for this build.Tremco SolutionTremco were asked to provide a solution for this complex build. The biggest and most demanding waterproofing areas within the build that needed attention were:1) Below Grade - 50 metres from the ocean and 4 metres below sea level, we needed a reliable waterproofing solution, that would also be robust enough to withstand any punishment tradesdelivered post installation, we recommended and used Paraseal SW (Saltwater). Paraseal SW is a multi-layer sheet membrane waterproofing system consisting of a self-sealing, expandable layer of bentonite laminated to an impermeable, high density polyethylene (HDPE).2) iAuditor reporting- iAuditor is an onsite quality assurance program Tremco conduct for the builder and applicator to ensure our products are being installed correctly and to specification. This gives the builder the confidence that there will be no waterproofing defects within the build.Overall, both the builder and developer were happy with the end result, which provided the warranty and quality required of such a development.

The City of Adelaide owned and operated UPark Gawler Place provides locals and visitors with easily accessible parking in the center of Adelaide. Open 7 days a week, the undercover parking facility required an urgent trafficable waterproof deck coatingsolution.Flowcrete Australia was consulted on how the operators could prevent water leakage into the tenancies located below, whilst ensuring the structural integrity of the parking facility was maintained. An added challenge was that the facility needed to remain operational throughout the installation.Deckshield ED Rapide was the ideal solution for the unique challenges at UPark Gawler Place. The hybrid PUMMA system features the Deckshield PDS Membrane which is certified by CSIRO to AS 4654.1.2012 - the system was designed to prevent the water leakage faced by the car park operators.Over 5,500m² of Deckshield ED Rapide was applied throughout the facility. The installation took approximately 2 months to complete, as the applicators were required to approach the project section by section, whilst liaising with traffic management to ensure parking operations were minimally disrupted and the facility remained open to patrons.

The surface colour finish was applied onsite to the grey compressed fibre cement cladding soffits to match in with the internal timber used in the project.OutcomeThe design required a space that was inviting and inspiring to students allowing them to remain in touch with the outside as well as being environmentally friendly. Our long-life ECOTONE finish to cladding replicating natural wood delivered in both design and sustainability. This project also went on to win a commendation award for Learning Environments Australasia Category 2: New Construction / New Individual Facility (or Facilities) Over $8m.TestimonialThe challenge of incorporating feature timber soffits within a bushfire zone was solved by the use of ECOTONE over non-combustible fibre cement sheeting. SAS International designed and manufactured a range of solutions for the new 75,000 square metres Terminal 2 at Dublin Airport, Ireland. According to Dublin Airport the new second terminal will be capable of comfortably handling up to 15 million passengers per year. Specification demanded that durability, ease of maintenance and acoustics were considered. SAS International worked with architects Pascall + Watson to design the ceiling solution answering the architect’s brief to factor in ongoing maintenance conducted by Facilities Management teams in the future. The design of these large sized ceiling panels required careful consideration at design stage to ensure they would be manageable when working at a height. Designed and developed specifically for Dublin Airport was 35,000 square metres of ceiling systems, installed in the main departure area, walkways and baggage handling areas. This solution looks like any other suspended metal ceiling system as it provides an aesthetically pleasing flush finish. But where this product differs is its ingenious way of allowing access to the ceiling void and services for ongoing essential maintenance. This is of particular benefit in high traffic areas such as Dublin airport as it enables a corridor to remain in use rather than having to close off the entire route. SAS International manufactured the 20,000m2 of large aluminium frames for the fabric ceilings which creates a striking central feature. Working closely with SAS International were local installers Platt and Reilly who applied the stretched fabric to the frames on-site and hoisted them into position. Creating a comfortable environment for traveller and worker was helped with the use of acoustic floating rafts and perforated metal ceiling solutions (with integrated acoustic pads) to provide the necessary acoustic control for this project. Lighting was suspended neatly between the rafts to also provide a modern finish to the corridors. In addition Perimeter heating and air handling grilles also enhance the experience.

The apartments have been selected for their ideal positions within the resort, relaxed atmosphere and unparralled quality facilities set the scene for pure enjoyment.The ChallengeWhen you are working with one of the most prestigious resorts in Port Douglas where the highest quality of facilities, services and experiences are expected, you need to provide unparalled results. Also when your guests are paying a premium price, your solution needs to be low odour so as to not disrupt the experience of paying guests whilst the work is being completed. The harsh North Queensland conditions demand a high quality product strong enough to withstand all types of weathering. So when Sea Temple Apartments discovered a problem with their waterproofing a high quality but aesthetically pleasing solution was the only option.Tremco SolutionWith the contractor previously using liquid membranes, a more robust and durable solution was needed which would also provide the warranty, demanded of a high quality building such as Sea Temple.Having previously completed many other successful projects with Tremco Systems, the applicator had trust in the Tremco solution, and a dual layer of Tremproof Torch 3000 seemed the logical choice for this end high development. The low VOC and odour levels of Tremproof Torch 3000 helped seal the deal in the built up 5 star accommodation to reduce neighbourhood discomfort.

Catering for Capital Hill’s requirements of security, high traffic and minimal maintenance, RBA has supplied a number of Bobrick Accessories specific to this project, suitable for both the highest of political representatives and the average citizen.RBA’s Bobrick Contura™ Surface Mounted Soap Dispenser, or the B4112, is made of strong Stainless Steel and holds a capacity of 1.2L. The unit is Antibacterial Soap resistant, allowing for its users to maintain optimal hygiene without wear and tear. Needing nominal maintenance, the B4112 is ideal for high traffic locations. Exhibiting a Satin Finish, the unit is a subtle addition to the facilities whilst simultaneously complimenting the silver notes in the Washroom design.Also pictured below is RBA’s Bobrick Trimline™ Recessed 2-in-1 Combination Unit, containing both a Paper Towel Dispenser and Waste Receptacle B38034. Recessed in nature, the unit invades minimal space while holding a large capacity of 600 C-fold of 800 multifold paper towels and a waste capacity of 14.4L, sporting two Tumbler Locks for security. It too has a Satin Finish to its Stainless Steel exterior, matching the B4112, maintaining a consistent aesthetic as well as blending in with the amenities.

Waterproofing both the internals and roof of the building, the builder demanded warranties to match the project requirements and to deliver a quality finish demanded of this high profile project.To streamline this project, availability of stock and ease of application were key product requirements needed from the project, which Tremco were tasked with delivering.Tremco SolutionVulkem H2 Plus, Vulkem NEM, Tremflex50, Vulkem 951Hydraseal partnered with Tremco for a few reasons, primarily trust built up through a longstanding relationship provided the support necessary for the key for the success in this project.The versatility of Vulkem NEM being able to be used for internal wet areas, in conjunction with Vulkem H2, as well as for outdoor areas under Vulkem 951 NF allowed for fast and consistent application of waterproofing on the project, given the tight time frames, all backed with long warranties to match product performance.The combination of Vulkem NEM, Vulkem 951 NF and Vulkem H2 provided the warranties demanded by the builder which resulted in both Builder, and Applicator very satisfied with the job.

With a glass façade symbolising the transparency of justice and a glossy metal exoskeleton, the new Maison de l’Ordre des Avocats (House of the Paris Bar Association) is a stunning addition to the French capital’s new Batignolles judicial city. For the building owner, safety is a top priority. Therefore, the exoskeleton needed a proven passive fire protection coating that would enable the steel to maintain its load-bearing capacity for up to 60 minutes during a fire, giving those inside valuable extra time to evacuate.The challenge Specialist paint application and surface treatment company ROTH & Cie was contracted to apply the passive fire protection coating system. ROTH & Cie has worked with Hempel for many years and was keen to work with us on this project. However, due to the project schedule, the tubular exoskeleton framework was delivered to the construction site with a competitor’s epoxy primer already applied. ROTH & Cie therefore wanted a Hempel passive fire protection system that would work with the existing primer. Also, as building aesthetics are important in the overall design, the exoskeleton needed a high-quality matt satin finish. The solution Our solution was to specify a system of Hempafire Pro 315 and Hempathane 55750. A single component intumescent coating, Hempafire Pro 315 complies with the EN 13501-2 standard for the fire classification of construction products. It is optimised to provide 60 minutes of passive fire protection, as well as partial protection up to 90 minutes. In addition, thanks to its exceptionally low loadings, Hempafire Pro 315 requires significantly lower dry film thicknesses than competitor products. As a result, ROTH & Cie could apply the coating in a thinner coat, significantly reducing paint consumption, application time and project costs. The full system was completed with Hempathane 55750, a polyurethane topcoat with quick crosslinking properties that provides the matt satin appearance required by the specifications. Our dedicated passive fire protection R&D Centre in Barcelona, Spain verified that Hempafire Pro 315 could be applied on top of the existing primer. The entire system was spray applied using an electric airless pump, which is ideal for construction sites as it does not require an air compressor.
