Application

Suitable for decorative internal steelwork in low corrosive (C1–C2) to highly corrosive environments (C3–C4).


Coats by environmental classification:

Up to C4

  • 1st coat: Interguard 251HS. DFT: 75 microns.
  • 2nd coat: Interchar 1260. DFT: To be determined by steel section and fire duration. Must be confirmed with manufacturer prior to application.
  • 3rd coat: Interthane 870. DFT: 75 microns.

Description

Interchar® 1260 is a thin film, waterborne intumescent coating system suitable for cellulosic fire protection up to 90 minutes.

Preparation

All surfaces to be prepared in accordance with the coating manufacturer's written instructions.

Primer coats

Interguard 251HS. DFT: 75 microns.

Undercoats

Interchar 1260.

Manufacturer guidance

Dry film thickness (DFT) of Interchar 1260 is determined by steel section and fire duration. Final DFT must be confirmed by manufacturer prior to application.

Finishing coats

Interthane 870. DFT: 75 microns.

Manufacturer guidance

Apply as full coat.

Execution

Applied in accordance with the coating manufacturer's written instructions.

Surface material

Steel surfaces should be assessed and treated in accordance with ISO 8504:2000, followed by abrasive blast cleaning to achieve Sa2½ in accordance with ISO 8501-1:2007. Refer to International Protective Coatings for full surface preparation requirements prior to commencement of work.

Application temperature

>10°C.

Durability

Medium (7–15 years).

High (15-25 years).

Fire resistance

Up to 90 minutes (1.5 hours).
