Elastomeric Isolation Bearings

Isolation bearings are used to isolate entire buildings or elements such as walls, steelwork or columns. Every bearing is bespoke, designed to accept the specific loads and compress to isolate as required. A typical application would be to prevent vibrations from a nearby railway or underground line entering the building structure or to support raked seating in a cinema. Elastomeric bearings can be made from a variety of materials and are very effective against most medium to high frequency vibration sources. The material choice depends on the environment, but natural rubber is the most common choice due to its low dynamic stiffness. Bearings can be designed to provide low natural frequencies, as low as 4-5Hz if necessary. We design our bearings to last the life of the building. Our elastomers are independently assessed for longevity against suitable structural standards. We design our bearings to function with consistent performance without the need for any inspection or maintenance.

Spring bearings are used to isolate against low frequency vibration sources and impact. They can be made using single or multiple springs and low natural frequencies of less than 2.0Hz can be achieved. This is often necessary if the structural resonances are low, typically requiring the isolator natural frequency to be lower still. We design our bearings to last the life of the building. We design our bearings to function with consistent performance without the need for any inspection or maintenance.

ND – Double Deflection Rubber Mounts

Our ND rubber double deflection mounts are used to isolate mechanical plant and machinery, as well as supporting floating floor systems. For example, the ND mounts can be used to construction of formwork LDS rubber floating floor systems. They have a large load range, starting as low as 7kg and going up to almost 2000kg. The ND mounts offer more than three times the deflection than pads. They incorporate a lower steel plate to allow for effective fixing in place, however, the bottom friction surface makes bolting unnecessary in most installations. A steel plate is also encased at the top to ensure evenly spread load throughout. The rubber encasement also helps to prevent corrosion. There is a threaded insert and cap screw for easy attachment to equipment, and the inner section is hollow, allowing for horizontal movement in shear. Standard mountings are furnished in oil resistant Neoprene, but other material finishes are available such as LDS (Low Dynamic Stiffness).

Restrained Spring Mounts

Restrained Spring Mounts have a housing which restricts spring travel. This is useful when equipment is subject to wind loading or changes weight during maintenance. They come with a wide variety of ratings and spring deflections, and are encased in a housing with adjustable limit stops. When set correctly, the springs will be floating and isolating correctly, but if the equipment changes weight significantly (when fluids are drained during maintenance), is moved (from wind when outside) or equipment moves in different patterns (during an engine start/stop cycle), the limit stops prevent the spring from moving excessively. Limit stops incorporate rubber pads so there is never a solid connection between the equipment and the ground. Spring mounts are typically used for applications where low frequency (sub 8Hz) vibrations are present. They can gain up to 150mm deflection and have load ratings ranging from 29kg up to 7634kg. Further capacity mounts can be supplied if required.

Open Spring Mounts

Open spring mounts are typically used for applications where low frequency (sub 8Hz) vibrations are present, such as mechanical equipment. We can provide acoustic spring mounts with up to 150mm deflection in a variety of designs to suit a variety of installations, such as where there are wind loads or where equipment moves in different patterns, for example during an engine start/stop cycle. Typical acoustic spring mount installations include floors and ceilings subject to impact, plant equipment inertia bases, mechanical and electrical equipment isolation and protection of sensitive instrumentation. Spring can be selected so that the load capacity is as low as 20kg, all the way up to 1331kg for single spring variants. Higher capacities can be achieved by utilising multiple springs in a single housing.

Spring Mounted Inertia Bases

Inertia bases vary from a simple steel frame which allows spring mounts to connect to the equipment through to large concrete filled frames to provide inertial mass. The increased mass reduces vibration, lowers the centre of gravity thereby reducing rocking and increases thrust resistance. We can engineer an inertia bases frame to suit project requirements in terms of size, mass and finish. The springs supporting the inertia bases are selected to suit the vibration characteristics of the isolated equipment and the building structure – especially floor deflection. We can design bespoke bracketry to save height and minimise the installation envelope, minimising the space required to install inertia bases. They can be designed to suit a wide range of requirements and to fit within a similarly wide range of locations. We consider both the vibration and structural capability of any design.

MuteClip® XP with MuteClip® Channel

MuteClip® XP (Extended Profile) is an acoustic sound isolation clip for ceilings that is unique in its design with its dual density rubber isolators, each carefully designed and assembled to improve noise reduction over a broad range of frequencies while remaining stable and consistent with every MuteClip® XP. The extended profile helps to accommodate varying joist depths whilst maintaining the same performance as the standard MuteClip®, it is installed onto the required depths on the inside of the joist, creating an efficient and streamlined way to ensure a suited levelling of the ceiling instead of building a new framework or resulting to ad-hoc methods of installation. The MuteClip® XP systems look to minimise the points of contact with the joists while creating an easy to install system with little to no error due to the accomplished design. The use of MuteClip® XP within a ceiling partition achieves excellent soundproofing against both impact and airborne noise on a wide range of projects.

30 Series – Acoustic Spring Hanger

The 30 hanger series can be fitted with a range of springs to suit acoustic and weight requirements. Spring hangers are used to isolate against low frequency noise from sources such as footfalls and mechanical vibration. Mason UK supply springs with a low ratio between height and coil diameter. This ensures that the spring remains stable, regardless of the amount of deflection. They feature a neoprene cup, required to absorb high frequency noise. This extends through the hanger box which ensures that the hanger rod does not contact the hanger box. The 30 series hangers are designed to allow for the rod to swing through an arc of 30 degrees from side to side in any direction before contacting the resilient rubber bushing. Hangers are available with load capacities from as low as 5kg, up to 1252kg.

HS – Spring Hanger

The HS series of spring hanger allows for a wide range of springs to be used to suit both acoustic and load requirements. Springs can react quickly enough to absorb impact and can also absorb low frequency noise. Spring hangers are used when isolation is required against low frequency noise/vibration. Typical sources would be footfalls from above or vibration in pipes from pumped fluids. They feature a neoprene cup, required to absorb high frequency noise. This extends through the hanger box which ensures that the hanger rod does not contact the hanger box. The load capacity ranges from 5kg up to 5336kg for multiple spring variants.

HDSM-X Spring Joist Hanger

Joist or wall hanger with metal coil spring. Springs can react quickly enough to absorb impact and can also absorb low frequency noise. They can be fitted with a ceiling channel clamp or eye bolt. HDSM-X hangers consist of a side attachment steel angle gusseted on each side to prevent bending. The hanger incorporates a steel spring, which can gain circa 25mm of deflection, reaching a natural frequency of 3-5Hz. Housing configurations offered for simple attachment to 1.5″ x .5″ channels or 12 gauge wire. The hanger range is available with different spring ratings to suit different ceiling weights. The HD hangers use a high quality low dynamic stiffness natural rubber element which offers excellent acoustic isolation properties. The HD-A rubber element extends beneath the metal housing, which prevents contact with the lower drop rod. The HD range is available with different rubber stiffnesses to suit different ceiling weights. The LDS rubber ensures that noise and vibration cannot travel through this acoustic hanger. Available in a variety of sizes and load capacities. HD-A is the low capacity type, HD-DS-Blue the highest capacity type. Load capacities are 20kg and 1905kg respectively. Designed for threaded drop rod installations. Can be used to isolate ceilings and HVAC ducting, piping and equipment.

The adopted low profile helps to reduce the loss of room height while maintaining the same performance as the standard MuteClip®, it is installed into the side of the joist so that the MuteClip® Channel runs parallel to, and is sufficiently lower than the joist to attach the next layer of the system to. HDQF-X Spring Hanger

The HDQF-X is an anti-vibration spring hanger. This acoustic hanger has been designed to aid the contractor with a quick and easy installation of suspended acoustic ceilings which use a metal grid system. The primary channel of the ceiling grid simply clips into the HDQF bracket. The hangers can support weights from 10kg up to 59kg per hanger. The spring elements can provide up to 33mm deflection, providing acoustic isolation down to 4.0Hz. They feature a neoprene cup, required to absorb high frequency noise. HDSM-A Joist Hanger

Joist or wall hanger with double deflection LDS rubber element. They can be fitted with a ceiling channel clamp or eye bolt. HDSM-A hangers consist of a side attachment steel angle gusseted on each side to prevent bending. The gussets protect an AASHTO bridge bearing quality LDS rubber element moulded with an integral lock in grommet at the bottom to prevent steel rod to housing acoustical short circuiting. Dynamic Stiffness does not exceed 1.4 nor the corrected frequency of 8Hz. Housing configurations offered for simple attachment to 1.5″ x .5″ channels or 12 gauge wire. Super W Pad

Super W pads feature unique waffle pockets which allow for greater deformation of the material, providing excellent isolation performance. Super W anti-vibration pads can be supplied in multiple configurations to suit most situations. Super waffle pads can be supplied as sheets, single pads, and in stacks separated by steel plates. The amount of available deflection (and therefore acoustic isolation) increases in line with the height of rubber in the stack. The steel shims allow for load to be transferred evenly across the stack. Pad size = 20mm thick pads available in 50mm x 50mm or 75mm x 75mm sizes. 100mm x 100mm x 25mm pads are also available. Super W Pads are manufactured in Neoprene or L.D.S (Low Dynamic Stiffness) rubber. Sheet size = 450mm x 450mm. Nominal load for 40 durometer pad in natural rubber = 55 kg. The full load range is from 35kg up to 653kg per pad.

BBNR Bearing Pad

BBNR pads are 25mm thick pads available in a selection of sizes and load capacities. They are typically manufactured out of Bridge Bearing Natural Rubber. The term “Bridge Bearing” is a great sign of quality. These pads can be applied to many applications, from the supporting of mechanical equipment, to the isolation of building structures. They can be layered with metal shims sandwiched between each pad to increase their deflection characteristics and improve their vibration isolation efficiency. Supplied in, 100mm, 150mm, 200mm and 250mm square sizes. As these pads are “off-the-shelf”, they are a more cost-effective solution to bespoke design bearings. The stock stiffness is 60 Durometer. To increase the load capacity in one location, multiple BBNR pads can be placed side by side. Bearings can be designed to provide low natural frequencies, as low as 4-5Hz if necessary. The load capacities range from 1089kg up to 11,340kg for single pads.
