There are various uses to which smoke control systems can be put in the case of a fire in warehouses, factories and single storey sheds:
To facilitate escape by providing smoke free escape routes.
To reduce the likelihood of damage or loss to production or stock.
To enable the fire-fighters to better see the fire and therefore to extinguish it more speedily and effectively.
To permit greater travel distances to exits to be designed in, without the need for compartmentation, resulting in a larger or more open building plan.
A well designed smoke ventilation system should be able to maintain adequate smoke free escape conditions at low level to allow the building to be evacuated with minimum risk of smoke inhalation, injury or death.

DCS021 SYSTEM OVERVIEW
Downer DCS021 framing system is designed to provide vertical support to most rainscreen cladding panels using the principle of a ventilated façade.
The Omega and Zed extruded rails are designed to be installed onto a continuous structural load bearing substrate to offer direct support to the cladding panels by face or adhesive fixing them.
It can also be used as a support to other framing systems such as our DCS004 Mechanical Secret Fix or combined with DCS031 & DCS041, or another layer of DCS021 Omega and Zeds to provide horizontally orientated support rails.
DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS
Vertical Rails should be set out in accordance with the structural engineers’ calculations or necessary building regulation. Read more in the technical guide and on Downer Designer.

Downer DCS031 HELPING HAND® bracket framing system is designed to provide vertical support to most rainscreen cladding panels using the principle of a ventilated façade.
HELPING HAND® brackets combined with extruded aluminium L & T profiles provide the installer with an adjustable system allowing for thermal and structural movement and variation in cavity depth to suit project specific requirements.
DCS031 vertical rails offer direct support to the cladding panels by face or adhesive fixing them.
It can also be used as a support to other framing systems such as our DCS004 Mechanical Secret Fix, DCS021 Omega and Zeds for horizontal support or Downer Timber Batten Holders to build an adjustable timber frame.

Air movement in a building is important. Grilles are fitted into walls and some doors; and ductwork to keep fresh air circulating. But wherever air moves, fire and smoke can travel too. In a fire, our intumescent air transfer grilles expand to form a solid block that stops fire spreading.
Wherever ventilation is needed through a fire-resisting wall or where ductwork runs through that wall, an intumescent air transfer grille should be fitted at that point to maintain fire compartmentation. Smoke protection is also vital. We offer a range of intumescent grilles and dampers with an added smoke control shutter: our Talkback system.

Cyclone reduces levels of polluted air during day to day use and assists with the extraction of smoke in the event of a fire, directing polluted air and smoke towards the extract positions in a car park or underground service area. Cyclone uses tunnel ventilation technology to eliminate the need for costly and bulky ductwork. Compared to ductwork systems, this may save car-parking spaces, reduce running costs and noise, and make the car park a lighter, less cluttered environment.
