Our client is the owner of this superb 1930s house which is located in a suburb of Manchester. The property is currently being renovated throughout and as the old windows were no longer fit for purpose, the decision was taken to replace them with a product which looked just like the original windows, but offered a much improved specification.The Clement EB20 range of steel windows was chosen, with G+ bars and beautiful fenestra joints. The new windows are dual coloured - a dark bronze was chosen for the outside frames while white was selected for the inside to match the interior.

Framlingham College was founded in 1864.The land on which the college was built was originally part of the Castle estate, left by Sir Thomas Hitcham in 1636 to Pembroke Hall, Cambridge. Included in the Governors’ recent £4million development initiative was the restoration of the original metal windows within the schools boarding accommodation. Clement were chosen to sensitively replace the windows in both the Stradbrook and Rendlesham buildings. To replicate the unusual, shaped head existing windows, the Clement W20 range of steel windows was specified with vertical pivots and genuine T glazing bars.

These were painted using a Dulux Paint System, and installed with new 4mm GoetheGlas heritage glass.Heritage box sash windowsConstructed from hardwood timber, the heritage windows incorporate single-glazing with a 4mm GoetheGlas heritage glass, and work via a classic weight-and-pulley mechanism. These also include individual solid bars providing the windows with genuine character. Traditional heritage putty was used externally to secure the glazing and enhance the visual aesthetic.*GoetheGlas is a colourless, drawn glass with the irregular surface characteristic of window glass common to the 18th and 19th centuries. It is used to protect precious, leaded glazing from the elements and other adverse environmental conditions.

The Lanark Hydro Electric Scheme is a remarkable project. When it was completed in 1927 it was the first of its kind in the United Kingdom. The Scheme refers to two hydroelectric plants in Clydesdale, South Lanarkshire, Scotland: Bonnington and Stonebyres’ Power Stations. They both take water from the beautiful Falls of Clyde. Bonnington’s water comes from just above the Linn in New Lanark and Stonebyres from above Stonebyres Linn near Kirkfieldbank. The abundant supply of water from the River Clyde continuously spins the power stations’ turbines providing a reliable and sustainable source of renewable electricity. Combined, they create enough electricity to power over 17,000 homes in the UK.  The two stations have been exquisitely refurbished by our client Drax, who acquired them as part of a £702 million deal. Both Bonnington and Stonebyres are category ‘A’ Listed Buildings, the highest possible grading, as a site of national architectural importance. This means it was imperative the new steel windows were as close a match as possible to the originals. The Clement W20 steel window range with genuine T bars, was chosen for the two Power Stations. Polyester powder painted in striking RAL 6005 Moss Green. Lodsworth handles complement the windows with matching peg stays in Antique Bronze finish. Clement made around 120 steel windows for the projects, including nearly 400 individual fixed lights, but the most beautiful is perhaps the enormous curved head windows on both sides of the buildings, which look spectacular and let in masses of natural light.  Drax Group senior civil engineer Anne Kerr said “We are delighted with the service and quality of windows supplied and fitted by Clement. Bonhams is a fabulously idiosyncratic 1930s building, situated on prestigious New Bond Street, in West London. The building is Art Deco in style, listed and within a Conservation Area. Architects Lifschutz Davidson & Sandilands led a £30million restoration project and sensitivity was key. The work included replacing the original steel windows on the front elevation facing Woodstock Street and Blenheim Street. Clement W20 steel windows were chosen to match the design of the existing windows. The new windows were fitted with toughened, laminated glass and silicone fronted using dark bronze silicone (to replicate the early putty fronting).

A development of 82 new build houses to the north of Glasgow benefit from Optima casement windows and French doors from Profile 22. Keepmoat positions itself as a value builder but is committed to smart design and attention to detail. The contract for the windows and French doors on the homes was awarded to Glasgow-based Profile 22 Approved Window Contractor Gold Seal Windows. The company is a highly experienced commercial contractor so had the expertise that was needed on a project that required a total of 900 casement window and French door units in Anthracite Grey.

Profile 22 Approved Window Contractor Kingfisher Windows was appointed principal contractor for the works. The company undertook the design, manufacture and installation of the window element of the project and worked closely with trusted sub-contractors to deliver other aspects to the high standards the project demanded.

Crittall Corporate W20 windows are an important component in the refurbishment and upgrade of a prominent industrial site in historic Bath.Newark Works is recognised as a masterclass in the retrofitting of heritage buildings that has transformed a former riverside heavy engineering factory into 21st century workspace.The buildings, dating from 1857 to 1905, are Grade II listed and sit within Bath’s designated World Heritage Site. They were formerly the home of world-renowned crane makers Stothert & Pitt but had fallen into serious disrepair. Their location as part of a larger Bath Quays redevelopment spurred their re-use, underpinned by sensitive treatment, to create 40,000sq.ft of modern workspace.“We specified the Crittall W20 system to replace the existing, single-glazed, cast-iron framed windows that were at the end of their life and deemed beyond repair,” said Nick Brown, Director of Ferguson Mann Architects.He explained: “The Crittall W20 system was chosen due to the need to use a window system that could sympathetically reproduce the fenestration of the large industrial windows – many of which were 3.6m tall – but also provide a huge thermal improvement.”  It was recognised that retaining the original cast iron windows and introducing secondary glazing was neither economically viable nor appropriate aesthetically.“The slim profiles of the Crittall W20 system meant we didn’t have to compromise on the amazing amount of natural light coming into the interior whilst improving the air tightness and reducing the overall heat loss of the building through the windows,” said Brown.He added: “Crittall were also able to recreate the opening vent arrangement of the existing windows, meaning we could also improve the natural ventilation provision to the new workspaces.”Consulting engineers Buro Happold calculated that just replacing the existing single-glazed windows with new double-glazed alternatives with a U-value of 1.8W/m2K would result in a 16 percent annual energy saving. That translated to 21.4 tonnes of CO₂. Over the building’s lifespan of, say, 25 years, that equated to a 535-tonne reduction in CO₂ emissions.In view of the heritage credentials of the buildings, planners and conservation officers at Bath & North East Somerset Council were consulted on the desire to replace the original fenestration with like-for-like steel windows. The local authority was keen that the buildings should be brought back into use after several previous failed attempts. They wanted the site’s historic significance to be respected while avoiding the desire to turn Newark Works into a ‘museum piece’. The installation of Crittall W20 was approved and two of the original cast-iron windows have been retained and refurbished as a reminder of the original building but not in a way so as to compromise the improved thermal performance of the whole.Summing up, Nick Brown comments: “Everyone is really pleased with the final result.”

No other material could have produced such an exquisite end result as steel for this project in Surrey. Clement were contacted by the owners who wished to replace all of their original steel windows and doors. Following careful consideration of what was available Clement's EB24 suite of steel windows was chosen. The stunning double doors benefit from the use of surface mounted cremone bolts instead of a usual lever locking mechanism which means the centre bar of steel is slim and elegant just like those of the outer frames.

Over 100 Optima windows and doors were manufactured and installed in a sustainable townhouse development that offers a contemporary twist on Victorian terraced housing.

One of Northern Ireland’s most popular 20th century libraries has been refurbished and extended with Crittall Windows helping to retain its unique character. The original three-storey building was circular in plan with a distinctive saw-tooth window configuration on the first and second floors. Crittall Corporate W20 windows were specified for the contract, with polyester powder coated white frames they contribute to the overall light and airy feel. The double-glazed, weatherstripped windows suit perfectly a heritage building with a modern purpose. Designed and constructed to achieve a BREEAM Very Good certification.

TRC was commissioned in December 2015 to begin a 34-month project to refurbish the 850 sash windows, over 40 pairs of French doors and 30 replacement identical sash windows so they perform to expectation in such a high-end building, while retaining their heritage characteristics. TRC also designed, supplied and installed over 200 new timber/aluminium composite windows for an additional new building in the grounds. This included design to the developer’s requirements; producing prototypes to obtain planning approval; production; and installation by TRC’s own employed team of professional window installers.

Set in the grounds of the former Manor House in West Malling, this stunning new development from Taylor Wimpey has plenty of wide-open spaces for residents to take advantage of. As a condition of planning consent and in line with local conservation conditions, these buildings are to be brought back into use and repaired in a sympathetic manner, ensuring that the original character and heritage of the buildings are maintained.Arden windows, as a key part of Taylor Wimpey’s supply chain for timber windows and doors, were approached by Taylor Wimpey and their architects with the brief to develop a truly bespoke window solution. One that not only meets the conservation requirements in terms of aesthetics of the windows and doors, but that also meet the current UK building regulation requirements and NHBC standards. Working from the architect’s detail drawings and photographs of original fenestrations and section details, the Arden design team were able to recreate an almost identical window and door solution fully meeting the conservation aspects of the project. The final product reflects the intricate profile sections and glazing bar details whilst also achieving the thermal and security requirements of the project.Arden manufactures windows and doors from engineered softwoods and hardwoods at their state of the art factory in Coventry. The 73,000 sq ft production unit incorporates leading-edge fully adaptable CNC machinery alongside time served skilled craftsmen, a winning combination that allows them to produce fully bespoke products on a volume scale.

Harleyford Court is a residential building which sits within the London Borough of Lambeth’s Vauxhall Conservation Area. Clement worked closely with Lambeth Planning Authority to agree precise details on the replica replacement steel windows for this red brick building. Clement’s bespoke EB16 steel window range was chosen to replace the existing single glazed fenestration. Despite being fitted with slim 16mm glass units, they benefit from being krypton filled and Part L compliant, offering improved thermal efficiency over that of the original windows.

Clement steel windows were chosen for the refurbishment of this double-fronted office building set within a busy part of the City of London near Smithfield Market. Surrounded by narrow cobbled streets it is situated on the boundary of the Smithfield Conservation Area.Blenheim House Construction (BHC) selected windows from the Clement EB24 range because they best suited the original look of the building and allowed for the maximum amount of light to flow throughout the property. Natural light was an important aim of this high specification refurbishment - central to the building is a mezzanine which creates a dramatic light-filled double height space.The windows are polyester powder coated in matt RAL 9005 (Jet Black) to match the frames as a finishing touch.Matthew Brown, Project Manager at BHC, commented:“We found Clement’s management team to be attentive, promptly addressing queries when raised and offering solutions and advice when called upon. This resulted in the windows being installed in a safe manner as per our agreed programme, and perhaps just as importantly, the client being pleased with the look of the end product.”Photography: CGS Photographers Ltd

Occupying an elevated position above the city of Guildford stands this wonderful house, which was built in the early 1900s. Individually designed and constructed to a very high specification, the numerous windows and doors (over three floors) allowed plenty of light to flood into the property and to take advantage of the fantastic surrounding views. Windows from Clement’s EB24 system with rectangular leaded lights were used to replicate the original fenestration. As well as the new windows being in keeping with the character of the property, the multi point locking system chosen by the client brought extra security.

Part of the Melia Hotels & Resorts Group since 1999, Melia White House is situated in a striking Grade II listed Art Deco building close to London’s Regent’s Park. Following discussions with Camden Planning, the Clement EB24 range of new steel windows with welded G+ multi pane system was installed. In total nearly 800 windows were installed in two phases requiring the Clement team to work to an exacting schedule.

TRC was awarded the 14-month contract to design, supply and install 300 timber box sash windows, 50 balcony French doors, and 28 curved-on-plan sash windows.

The India Buildings is located on Water Street in the centre of Liverpool’s financial and business district. It was designed by architects Arnold Thornely and Herbert J Rowse, following a competition to design an office block which was judged by the great Sir Giles Gilbert Scott and built between 1924 and 1932 for the Blue Funnel shipping line owned by Alfred Holt.The building’s design is influenced by the Italian Renaissance style and it has several features of the American Beaux-Arts style, including for example the sculptures of cherubs above the windows.Having sustained damage during World War II the building was restored to its original state after the war under the supervision of Rowse, the original architect.In 2017, the Grade II* Listed Building was purchased by Legal & General and it was announced that HMRC would base a regional centre there. Renovation works commenced with the focus on creating modern, comfortable office space while retaining the heritage features of the building.Clement Windows Group was selected to manufacture and install the new double glazed steel windows which match the original single glazed metal windows and improve thermal performance and energy use within the historic building. Almost 1,000 windows from the Clement MW40 range were specified, polyester powder painted in RAL 9016 (White).Alex Harrison of architects Falconer Chester Hall said: “We had the pleasure of working with Clement on the steel window replacements of the India Building refurbishment project. TRC have been awarded the window restoration contract on the Grade 1 listed 250 year old Manchester Town Hall.The 68-week contract is worth over 1.8 million pounds and will see TRC restore over 500 timber windows on this prestigious building for Manchester city council.We were chosen for this work after a lengthy procurement process and further cements TRC position as the market leading window restoration company.

Over a number of phases, Clement have manufactured and installed new steel windows and doors from our EB24 range for this magnificent house in the Berkshire countryside. The original home was built in 1905 and the current owners have beautifully refurbished the whole property including the gardens. They have cleverly added a contemporary twist, but have retained all of their home’s original charm. The new slim framed steel windows and doors have opened up the views from the house to the garden and let masses of light into the home. Two different glass types were chosen: leaded light glass for the new multi point locking steel windows and G+ glass for the steel doors, and the combination works perfectly together. The larger panes of glass in the steel doors allow natural light to flow throughout the ground floor. The client said: “Clement Windows Group are a fantastic company. Lewis House is a development of 26 one and two bedroom retirement apartments in Upper Norwood in London from McCarthy & Stone. Profile 22 Optima Chamfered Windows deliver specifications required. The window specification required a U-value of 1.4 wm2/k on all windows and Secured by Design accreditation on the ground floor & easily accessible first floor windows. Acoustic glazing was also required because Lewis House is situated on a busy road so traffic noise needed to be minimised. Visually, the local authority had requested a grey exterior to give a modern appearance and provide a close match to aluminum.

At this luxury residential block, by developer Purelake and ECE Architecture, VELFAC windows and patio doors are installed in all 52 apartments. The slim framed windows deliver maximum natural light, optimum thermal and acoustic insulation, and some stunning views.

Cecil Square contains 45 homes on a 1.5-hectare site in Stamford which was formally the location of Stamford AFC football club. It is a well-planned development of executive homes, founded upon the strong principles of good quality urban design and environmental sustainability.With its long history, spectacular town centre, and vibrant sense of community, Stamford is a special place in which to live and work. The local authorities, landowners, developers and other stakeholders all acknowledged there was a challenge and a responsibility to help this much-cherished town grow and meet the needs of its current and future residents.The client, Burghley House Preservation Trust entrusted Adam Architecture and house builder Morris Homes to bring their vision and values to reality, resulting in a stunning development completed in late 2019.Following a thorough tendering process including assessment of quality, environmental, technical capability and accreditations by the client, architect and the developer, Arden windows were selected as the preferred supplier and installer of the timber window and door package. Products supplied include timber sliding sash windows, flush casement windows, and double and single residential doors.The bespoke window and door designs supplied by Arden achieve the requirements of the traditional aesthetics essential in such a key location, thus ensuring that the new development is in keeping with the local architecture. Long house is a modern interpretation of a Derbyshire Dales longhouse and houses three generations of their respective families. It was built to Passivhaus standards and to have minimal visual impact on its rural surroundings and featured in a September episode of Channel 4’s Grand Designs. On the ground floor, a combination of floor-to-ceiling windows and a completely open-plan layout fills the house with sunlight and creates a feeling of space and tranquillity. A shared sitting room for Sarah and Mike’s mothers is known as the ‘lady chapel’ and its oversized windows provide spectacular views across the valley.Energy efficiency, thermal performance and sustainability are all key when building to Passivhaus standards. The couple were also keen to meet the Royal Institute of British Architects 2030 Challenge targets for operational energy use, water usage and embodied carbon. Durability and security were also priorities.‘The windows are the stars of the show. The whole house feels full of light and life. The views are spectacular and in every room we feel part of the landscape, but without having to put a jumper on!’

TRC were appointed by Mulalley & Co LTD to design, supply and install 205 fully glazed and factory finished traditional box sash windows for Vauxhall primary school in London.Vauxhall Primary School is one of many British schools to be financed by the government in their mission to refurbish schools across the country.The Department for Education has invested £11.3bn since 2015 to enable schools to refurbish their buildings – this includes £1.8b in 2021-22 alone.We have a huge amount of experience and expertise in restoring and breathing new life into schools, hospitals and other significant public buildings, with Vauxhall Primary School being one of six school projects that TRC has completed since the ease of 2021’s COVID restrictions.We installed 205 fully glazed and factory finished Traditional Box Sash windows into hardwood consisting of a height of 3500mm with Teleflex operated top lights.Not only do the Traditional Box Sash windows provide a timeless classic look, they also provide incredibly efficient cooling, keeping classrooms cooler and pupils more comfortable during warmer months.The windows installed had to comply with the following specification requirements:Double glazed sash windows to achieve overall Uw-value of 1.4 w/m2k;Hardwood Georgian barsPas24 Enhanced Security element for ground floor windows 

Following consultation with the city planning department, Mather & Ellis Stonemasons ordered Clement W20 steel windows for phases 3,4 and 5 of works completed during 2014. Steel windows were replaced in many of the University’s fine buildings including The Beyer Building, John Owens Building and The Christie Library. Although the Clement W20 steel window system was used throughout, every building had individual design and installation specifications to maintain the correct appearance.

Fircroft House in Essex has been completely transformed from a tired 1980s detached property into a distinctive home with a contemporary edge.Renovated throughout, Fircroft House features a new ground floor extension, pale grey timber-effect external cladding (replacing a brick and render façade), and brand new Rationel alu-clad windows and doors. In fact, sixteen new windows are installed across the property, including opening and fixed units, two large sliding patio doors, and a solid, grooved front door flanked by glazed side lights and set beneath an arched portico. When planning the refurbishment of Fircroft House, window and door replacement was a project priority, as the original property had single glazed, leaded, all-timber windows which made the interior very dark and were thermally inefficient. All-aluminium glazing was initially considered because the homeowners wanted an affordable, durable and contemporary frame design which looked more attractive than uPVC. They changed their mind, however, when they saw Rationel AURAPLUS alu-clad windows installed at a friend’s home: ‘The idea of a frame which combined timber and aluminium was very appealing,’ they say. ‘It offered the best of both worlds with hardwearing aluminium outside and thanks to the wood, a more tactile finish to the inner frames, so we decided to find out more.’ The homeowners are delighted with their new windows and doors and would happily recommend Rationel: ‘We are very impressed with the package offered by Rationel,’ they say. ‘The windows and doors are all high quality, low maintenance and look great, and the service we received from okoHaus was amazing from start to finish.’

Mitie selected TRC to conduct surveys, removals, manufacturing, and installation of more than 600 traditional double-glazed box sash windows in this delightful housing estate, originally designed by George Godwin in 1885.Located in the heart of Chelsea and offering easy access to both Fulham Road and Kings Road, Elm Park Gardens comprises multiple blocks.TRC embarked on the demanding task of surveying the existing windows and balcony doors, obtaining precise manufacturing measurements from within the flats, all without the need for external scaffolding. They maintained a close collaboration with the primary contractor and coordinated appointments with residents over a span of six months.Working within occupied flats, TRC ensured that residents’ expectations were met with cleanliness, protection, and politeness while installing the new bespoke timber windows and balcony doors.The projectThe comprehensive window replacement project covered the following aspects:The new traditional box sash windows were meticulously matched with the original style and proportions, including shape, glazing bar size and placement, overall glazing patterns, opening methods, materials, and finishes.

St Paul’s Church in Leeds has been transformed with the addition of a large, bespoke steel door screen and feature steel window. The screen incorporates a pair of double doors, providing light and airiness. Both the new steel window and door set are made from Clement EB24 steel sections which include double glazed, argon filled glass units. Mark Harlow, the Vicar, said “St Paul’s Church embarked on a major refurbishment of their 60 year old building to make a warm and welcoming, adaptable space while keeping to the original architect’s ideas. A key part of the brief was to widen the entrance corridor and allow light into one end. This has all been more than achieved using Clement’s metal frame windows and doors. These have helped create an additional space for people to meet and mix. The narrow profile of the frames has allowed maximum light and visual access between the spaces, while the rhythm of the glazing bars both modernise and blend with the architecture of the main worship space.” Architect Tom Robbins of Pearce Bottomley Architects commented: “We have worked with Clement on a number of projects and have been very pleased with the service we have received and the quality of their products. They supplied the steel framed glazed screen and feature window at St Paul’s Church, Ireland Wood, Leeds and we couldn’t have been happier with the result. We also specify Clement’s conservation rooflights whenever we can, as we are of the opinion that they are the best on the market.”
