We’ve given a Victorian office building a modern makeover by replacing the existing washrooms with a modern new design. Our flush fronted Alto toilet cubicles, which are designed to provide a virtually seamless façade, were finished with an attractive dark wood effect Engineered Veneer to ensure a consistency of colour for each cubicle door. Laminated duct panels were installed behind the toilets and urinals in a soft grey colour and we also designed bespoke white Corian vanity units.

For the new distribution centre at Schiphol Trade Park along the A4, living walls have been realised with MobiPanel, the living wall system from Mobilane. With a total surface spanning 750 m2, the facades of the new distribution centre is greened with the latest generation vertical green from Mobilane.Sustainable and innovative distribution centreA lot of attention has been paid to the appearance of the new distribution centre. With the design of Dedato Architecten, sustainability has not only been taken into account on the inside, but also sustainability at the outside of the building has been taken into consideration by including nature-inclusitivity. Dick Venneman, architect and owner of Dedato Architecten tells: “It is a building with its own characteristic appearance, a landmark from the highway. The building is in its materials friendly and accessible. The different surfaces in the facade gives it a human approach. The living walls and the vertically placed solar panels tells something about the sustainability of the building and plays a role in the preservation of biodiversity in the area”. In addition, the MobiPanel living walls makes the environment more sustainable and improves air quality. The installation of the living walls was carried out by Mobicare in collaboration with Zoontjens Boomprojecten. In addition to the living walls, Zoontjens also installed two large roof gardens with various trees, shrubs and 2,600 MobiRoof ECO sedum cassettes totalling 650 square metres.Distribution centre 2.0 Schiphol Trade ParkThe building spans 30.000 m2 of which 3000 m2 is available for offices. Under the distribution centre, there is a car park spanning 7500 m2 with space for 270 cars. The construction of the new distribution centre began in 2020 and is delivered by Dijkham Bouw BV. “From the environment, wellbeing and to prevent a paved environment, for the design it has been chosen to implement living walls, green roofs and ground level. We are very satisfied about this procedure. The execution is very good, the communication was good”, according to Marcel Smeets – Coordinator at Dijkham Bouw BV. The distribution centre was developed by Minerva Development. Minerva Development is an independent developer with years of experience in the development and realisation of business premises. “Since Schiphol Trade Park has set the goal of becoming one the most sustainable logistics centre, as developers we were very happy to take on the challenge. Next to all other facilities such as solar panels, we have opted for a lot of greenery in the design. Not only on the facades, but also in the surroundings of the building and on the roof. We are very happy with the end result and proud of the fact that because of the living walls, this is by far the most beautiful DC in the area. We are very curious about what the result will be over a few months when everything is in bloom”, Bob Lukassen – Minerva Development.Latest generation vertical greenFor greening the distribution, it was chosen for the new living wall system MobiPanel from Mobilane. MobiPanel is an innovative, sustainable and lightweight system for living walls. It is a modular and circular system consisting of omega profiles and pregrown plant cassettes (40 x 40 cm), provided with an automatic irrigation and drainage system. The plants in the cassettes receive water through capillary action. MobiPanel can be installed on flat or curved walls and is suitable for different types of walls, including certain types of sandwich panels. With a steadily expanding workforce of 200+ highly skilled software engineers, space is at a premium at Amazon’s development centre in Edinburgh. Working with architect, Hassell, and contractor, Clark Contracts, Style was specified to deliver a partitioning solution that would enable the open-plan conference and training room to be segregated into smaller rooms, as required.Installing two Dorma Hüppe Variflex moveable walls either side of a central column, the large area can now be quickly split into two individual rooms.With an incredible 59db Acoustic rating, this is almost an entirely sound-proofed solution, which means there is no disturbance from events taking place either side of the wall. The BriefFoley Building Contractors were working on a project at the hospital which is run by the Croydon Health Services NHS Trust. Part of their works required several canopies to provide shade and shelter for their patients and visitors whilst queueing outside due to the social distancing measures that were in place. Because the summer had come to an end and the wintery weather was on the way, these canopies were needed with a quick turnaround.The SolutionJust a couple of days after the initial enquiry, we were on site conducting a site survey to enable us to provide the contractor with a firm quotation. We provided them with a price for four Coniston Wall Mounted Canopies; two for their Elective Care and Heart Centre and then another two for their COVID-19 testing units.

Delivered an elegant Green (Living) Wall at the iconic One Hyde Park building using a a combination of Jakob’s high-quality stainless-steel ropes, rods and planters.Our green wall has been installed to the eastern edge of the One Hyde Park building; where it lines the route of a new pedestrian walkway (Serpentine Walk), just a few steps away from Harrods. The wall creates a stunning green corridor between Hyde Park and the nearby Harrods store and 80 luxury apartments.The Jakob Green Wall system was chosen due to its aesthetic appeal suiting the architectural design of the building and the 21st century trend of city greening.The green wall provides both a visual and physical link between the expansive open spaces of Hyde Park and the busy street scene along Knightsbridge. With a focus on the needs of the local community, the newly constructed St Philip’s Church Centre near Birmingham, has been designed to accommodate a wide range of activities, from regular worship to choir practice, toddler groups and Pilates.Adding flexibility to the open-plan, 350 seat Worship Space, partitioning expert Style worked with Kier Construction and architects, Robothams, to install a Dorma Hüppe Variflex solid moveable wall, dividing the area into two separate rooms, as required.Allowing light into both areas, the partition includes two Variflex glass panels as well as vision panels within the double door. Creating a fluid environment to encourage collaborative working, partitioning experts Style, designed and delivered a unique and highly innovative ‘working wall’ solution for Adobe’s new offices in the landmark White Collar Factory building, Shoreditch. The cluster of individual sliding and pivoting wall panels can be used to create numerous sized spaces for impromptu meetings and brainstorming sessions. They can also be pulled together to form a wider temporary wall. Delivering further flexibility, Style installed a fully automatic, Skyfold vertical-rising partition capable of delivering 55dB acoustic privacy, as well as a semi-automatic DORMA Moveo double-glazed operable wall.

The BriefPG Marshall and Sons Ltd. were working on a project at St Helier Hospital for Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust. They were relocating the Davis (outpatient) unit which included a portable building that required weather protection over the disability access ramp and pathway leading to the unit.They also needed the canopy to connect the Davis Unit to Ferguson House (the main building), which already had a small cantilevered canopy that the hospital trust were keen to keep in place.The SolutionThe two buildings that required connecting via a canopy had a fairly awkward space in between due to the buildings not being equally parallel to one another. Following the original design drawings, it was clear that the perfect solution would be the popular Coniston Wall Mounted Canopy.

Working directly with Kingsknowe Golf Club, Style was contracted to install two folding walls to section off parts of the clubhouse lounge and bar, adding greater adaptability to the internal layout.“With around 650 members, the clubhouse can be very busy, said David Louden, Style’s director for Scotland. “Installing two Stylefold 900 folding walls provides exceptional flexibility, allowing the clubhouse to be either left as an open plan room, or to be segregated into separate areas for different social events and meetings.“The internal blinds on the larger of the two walls offer a greater level of privacy when required.”Founded in 1908, Kingsknowe Golf Club has a custom-built clubhouse that enjoys elegant views across north-east Edinburgh. This is ideal for competitions, visiting societies and other gatherings.The second wall further divides the room, giving a greater level of privacy when shut thanks to internal blinds between the glass. With both walls offering a 31dB acoustic rating, additional events can now take place without being disturbed by activities in the main bar.

A busy access corridor linking one wing to another at a major Yorkshire Hospital now benefits from a wall protection system supplied and installed by Yeoman Shield.The heavy footfall, wheeled equipment and bed trolleys continually traversing the path between two busy wings was starting to take its toll on the walls and corners of the corridor in the form of marking, denting and scratching.Keen to maintain the high smart standards as well as lifecycle and sustainability of the property, the hospital choose a protection system from Yeoman Shield to overcome such damage.200mm Protection Rail was fitted “flat-back” to the wall on one side of the access way with FalmouthEx Wall Protection Panels installed below the rail.Rubber stop ends/returns (new to the Yeoman Shield range) were applied to the rail as added defence against heavily laden trolleys and carts that may come into contact.The opposing wall was also offered protection by the same Yeoman Shield 200mm Protection Rail this time installed on 60mm “stand-off” allowing the system to become a supportive rail for those who require it. Lang+Fulton products were used extensively at The Emirates Stadium for Arsenal FC as barrier fencing, security screening, balustrading and wall cladding. The Arezzo-25 fence panels with a 76x25mm aperture were supplied with the flat bars running horizontally in order to take a loading requirement of BS6399 – 1:1996. This guaranteed its suitability for use as a barrier fence for the crowd control areas surrounding the Emirates. Alternative fixing methods combined with the versatility of the panels created continuity of design throughout the varied applications within the project.

Working with architects, Broe & Co LLP, Style was specified to install a new folding wall system to the ground floor of the Bloomsbury Street Day Nursery in Brighton, creating a flexible environment where children are encouraged to learn, play and explore at their own pace.Allowing nursery staff to separate the room into two, Style recommended a Stylefold acoustic glass folding wall with a 44dB Rw rating, ensuring that activities either side of the wall can take place undisturbed. By choosing a glazed folding wall, staff can maintain a watchful eye on the children and the area continues to enjoy an airy and open feel, even when the wall is in place.This manually operated folding wall is light and simple to open and close, encouraging staff to change the room configuration to suit daily activities. London City Island is home to 1600 residential properties, 20,000 square metres of commercial office space, cafes, shops, restaurants and cultural facilities; offering something for everyone. We are once again delighted to be involved within this vibrant new and exciting site.THE PRODUCTThe London City Island development is split over a number of differences phases and blocks, with each development having a slightly different requirement and specification for mailboxes. A number of different mailbox models were used on the project, to match the different design finishes of each phase of the development.Our horizontal fire rated 2 mailboxes were used on two phases where there was a specific requirement for a post box to meet a Class 0 Part 22 1 hour integrity only fire rating. The first bank of mailboxes are wall recessed and fitted with a surrounding trim to provide the mailboxes with a clean finish from the mailbox to the installation wall. This bank of mailboxes were assembled into a configuration of 9 high x 9 wide prior to despatch, allowing easy installation once on site. The mailboxes have been finished in a non-standard colour (D2525-Y2217 matt) and engraved on the inward-sprung flap with an apartment number in a contrasting jet black colour.The second bank of fire rated 2 mailboxes also conformed to Part 22 fire rating standards. This bank was configured into a bank of 4 high x 6 wide mailboxes, finished in a standard colour chosen from the RAL colour chart and engraved in a contrasting white engraving on the inward-sprung flap.The third bank of mailboxes is located in a dedicated mailroom, wall recessed to maximise room for residents and mail delivery personnel to use the mailboxes. As is common practice with all wall recessed mailboxes, these banks of post boxes have also been fitted with a surrounding trim, ensuring the highest finish quality is achieved on the development.Also used on the project were the MODA mailboxes in the horizontal orientation with a width of 260mm. The MODA mailbox is popular with clients requiring a versatile and attractive product particularly useful for multi-coloured and multi-sized arrangements. This phase of the London City Island development shows how the MODA mailbox can be used in a more straightforward manner with a classic bank of wall recessed mailboxes finish in a single colour. Each mailbox has been engraving on the opening flap, infilled in a contrasting silver colour finish.All mailboxes on this development are in front / out front, allowing for mail to delivered and retrieved through the front face.

The University of Central Lancashire development of a new UCLAN Student Centre 7,304 sqm and University Squares 8,440 sqm.Soundis was approached by BAM Construction to supply the Absorb-R WoodTec Walls Slats and the Absorb-R SofTone Fabric Baffles. These where installed by our installation partner UK Acoustic SystemsThe WoodTec Wall Slats are based on a fibre gypsum board which has excellent properties regarding both fire safety and acoustics. The slats are less sensitive to changes in temperature and humidity which results in 100% straight aligned slats over their full lifetime.

The management of the UK’s education estate facilities has never been more important. Responding to this, partitioning expert Style has recently undertaken planned maintenance work, as part of a 3-year service agreement, in a cluster of Scottish schools, quickly rectifying small areas of wear and tear that could otherwise have led to larger repair costs. Drawing on over 20 years of experience installing operable walls, Style was recently challenged to come up with a solution to divide a large meeting area, despite there being no suitable structure in the ceiling to utilise as a fixing point. After some lateral thinking and close communication with the client, a non-structural timber frame was created for support, with the weight of the folding wall being transferred to the ground via a surface mounted floor track. London Brick White was recently installed in this bright and welcoming Bubble Tea Café in Newcastle. Its natural texture, high quality finish and durable nature made it the ideal choice. Having seen the sample, the designers knew this was a lightweight, durable panel solution with the right finish for the client. Our technical team produced panel layouts and communicated the most efficient layout to reduce waste and ensure the design was as cost-effective as possible. The panels were installed rapidly, resulting in a bright and welcoming space that's ready for business.

Tudor House was opened as the offices for Hatfield Rural District Council by the Marquess of Salisbury in 1930. A grand old building, it was built in a Georgian style with a host of period features.When its purpose as a public administration building was over, a proposal for a conversion (material change of use) into apartments was put forward by Lioncrest. Whilst not a listed building, they proposed to retain all of the period features and, where time had taken its toll on the building fabric, restore and renovate the brickwork and stonework back to its former glory.Permission has been given to convert the offices into seven new luxury apartments comprising of four two bedroom apartments and three one bed apartments. The largest apartment was constructed in the roof space which entailed reconstructing the existing roof incorporating two large dormer windows and five roof lights. The building includes a large basement which was converted into stores for the occupants and for each of the apartments to have an allocated car parking space.Lioncrest consulted with Hush Acoustics at the design stage of this development for soundproofing advice and assistance with the design, specification and supply of the materials needed.There were a number of design issues to take into account due to the history of the building and the period features. Collaborating with the project team, Architect and the appointed Acoustician an effective and aesthetically pleasing sound absorption solution was developed which meets the Building Regulation requirements of BB93.A variety of Acoustic Absorption products were used in this project including, Absor-R Acoustic Baffles, Absorb-R Acoustic Rafts, Absorb-R Acoustic Fabric Wall Panels and Acoustic flooring.

The BriefWates Construction contacted us in October 2017 as they were tendering for the £7.8m development at Murray Park Community School in Mickleover, Derby. The project which was supported by SCAPE and funded by the ESFA, comprised of a brand-new building with a new reception area, 15 additional classrooms and office space.The SolutionWe were invited to attend a design meeting in February 2019 to discuss a shade and shelter solution that would work well with the area and match the design whilst also being cost effective and of the highest quality. From the meeting, it was agreed by all that the Coniston Wall Mounted Canopy would be the perfect shade and shelter solution and the Langdale Cycle Shelters were the perfect product to provide the cycle coverage required.

Rushcliffe Oaks is a new crematorium situated in open countryside in Nottinghamshire. Partitioning specialist, Style worked with contractor, A&S Enterprises to increase the functionality of the space between entrance lobby and the chapel.A Dorma Hüppe Variflex semi-automatic glass moveable wall was chosen as the best option, allowing the chapel to be quickly closed off from the main entrance area whenever a funeral is in progress. Minimising possible disturbance, Variflex delivers an impressive 50dB acoustic rating, with further privacy being offered by the inclusion of automatic blinds that are integrated into the individual glass panels.Providing a sensitive and calming space to remember loved ones and say goodbye in a peaceful and tranquil setting, Rushcliffe Oak Crematorium is set in beautifully landscaped grounds. The environmentally conscious facility uses renewable energy sources and is one of the first in the country to invest in innovative all-electric technologies.Contributing to the facility’s drive for a low carbon footprint, the Dorma Hüppe Variflex moveable wall has an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) in accordance with ISO 14025 and EN 15804, making it a highly sustainable solution.“This is a perfect example of where a moveable wall can add so much more to a room than simply dividing the space,” said Steve Williams, Style’s sales director for the Midlands.“When not in use, the moveable wall can be stacked neatly away creating a large, open plan area. However, when in situ it plays an important role in ensuring ceremonies benefit from maximum privacy, helping to create an environment that is peaceful and free from outside disturbance.To ensure the room is fully accessible, Style increased the height of the pass door in the moveable wall to 2400mm, enabling a coffin to be easily manoeuvred into the chapel.

Working with architects, BDP Glasgow Studio and main contractor, Balfour Beatty, Style was specified to create flexible space in both the auditorium and one of the main classrooms in Strathclyde University’s £60 million new Learning & Teaching Building. In the tiered auditorium, a Skyfold Zenith stepped moveable wall was the ideal solution. Offering an outstanding 59dB acoustic rating and descending from the ceiling at the push of a button, the vertically rising moveable wall offers a unique ‘thin path of travel’ which means it can descend into tight spaces, in this case the narrow gap between the seating. In the main classroom, a Dorma Hüppe Variflex moveable wall offers a 56dB acoustic rating and its semi-automatic operation means the acoustic seals are applied to the correct pressure to maximise the effectiveness of this operable wall. “We were delighted to have been specified to add adaptability to key areas of this iconic building,” said David Louden, Style’s director for Scotland, “particularly as we also previously installed a Skyfold at the University of Glasgow as well, which means we have been the chosen provider for both of the city’s universities. “It reinforces our position as the market-leading moveable partition and folding wall specialist in Scotland, and across the whole of the UK. “The Skyfold looks fabulous in situ, with clean, white panels and is a real showcase for the University, and the classic laminate white finish on the Variflex complements the styling of the main classroom perfectly."Built with a sharp focus on sustainability, the Learning & Teaching Building was created through the refurbishment and integration of two existing buildings – the Colville Building and the Category B-listed Architecture Building. It is a collective space for all students and staff, comprising a variety of first-class learning and teaching facilities. 

Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro is the biggest hospital in Cornwall. The corridor needed updating quickly and required a durable solution to withstand high footfall and wheeled traffic in the area. Altro Cantata adhesive-free flooring was combined with Altro Fortis Titanium wall protection.

The new centre, sympathetically designed by the prestigious Glenn Howells Architects, uses Reynaers’ CW 60 modular curtain walling, Vision 50 door system, ES 50 Eco System door, CS 68-HV Hidden Vent window and CS 77 doors. It was built by contractors Stepnell and the consultant was Wintech Ltd. With a large restaurant and shop, separate coffee shop and beautiful cloistered courtyard with garden, it’s hoped that the new centre will attract hundreds of thousands of new visitors to the Arboretum.
