For the beautiful penthouse atop one of the buildings in South Bank Place, located next to the London Eye, the designers wanted a feature floor with a bespoke colour finish. We worked with the designers at Goddard Littlefair and decided on the timeless design of the Versailles parquet pattern. The designers wanted a show-stopping colour for this floor. We created the Belvedere colour finish; using a mixture of fumed, European Oak and pigmented hard wax oils to create a dark colour tone with red and golden highlights.To ensure a uniform and quick installation on site; we creating metre square panels with the Solid Oak Versailles pattern positioned by hand onto Birch plywood backing. Having discussed the fit-out process in detail with the fit-out team from SJ Eastern Joinery, we grooved all four sides of the panel and supplied the tongues loose. This gave the fitters flexibility to lay the boards as they saw fit on site. Once we had assembled the panels, the bespoke colour finish was applied; after completing multiple coats the panels were stored to fully cure and harden.Once the team from SJ Eastern had fitted the flooring on site, they protected it with a soft breathable cover and topped that with hardboard and taped the edges. This allowed the other trades to snag without damaging the floor. Once snagging was complete, the floor protection was removed. As anyone who has been on a building site knows, dust and debris are everywhere and sure enough the flooring needed a final clean and buff with oil to increase the lustre and make it perfect for the wow factor needed in such a stunning project.The expert team lead by Bardhyl Miskiqi of BRB Flooring came in and cleaned the floor thoroughly, removing plaster dust and other debris by vacuum and cleaning the floor down using a solution of Blanchon Natural Soap and hot water. Once the floor was suitably clean, they applied Blanchon Hard Wax Oil Satin on to the floor and buffed a coat into the floor using a buffing machine equipped with a white buffing pad. This fed the Oak another coat of oil which bolsters the protection against every day use and increased the lustre of the wood highlighting all the colours from that bespoke colour that had been applied at the factory.Once the oil was properly buffed in, the penthouse door was closed and the floor left to dry and cure. Once curing had completed the furniture was placed in the room and made ready for viewing by the client and new owner and a lifetime of happy memories.Please call 01666 504015 for more information.

Nike has transformed The Regal basketball court at the Black Prince Community Hub in South London, using Junckers Beech SylvaSport floor pre-finished with black oil over a New Era fully sprung sub-floor system.

For this refurbishment project, we installed a new DYNAMIK Sprung Engineered Premium Sport Oak Floor. includes the DYNAMIK bespoke court design by partners Sportserve, who created a basketball home team feel by highlighting the surrounds and court Ds as well as the DYNAMIK and Shire Oak Academy logos. We are able to manufacture engineered wood stair units to match our flooring with the same colour and finish.The stair units include the tread and riser and can be made to exact sizes if we have detailed drawings. This means installation costs will be less. These stair cladding units can be fully bonded to old stairs, concrete stairs or Steel stair structures.The cost of these stair units are considerably more than our standard stair nosings and a deposit will be required before production because they will be to your specification. Polyflor’s Expona portfolio selected to complement split-purpose, premium design for culinary and entertainment destination Location: Toronto, CanadaSpecifier: The Design AgencyProducts used: Expona Commercial, Expona Simplay Size: 9,902 sq ft Year: 2019 Real Sports Bar and Grill in Toronto has been refurbished into a modern culinary and entertainment destination, to appeal to a new demographic of music and food fans alongside its long-established customer base of sports enthusiasts. By using varying design themes and materials, the facility has been able to create unique experiences across two different spaces. During the refit in 2019, the building – located beside Scotiabank Arena, home of the Toronto Raptors and Toronto Maple Leafs – was split into two distinct zones. One was a sports haven boasting a 100-ft bar and the city’s largest screen, while the second was an upscale lounge dedicated to fine dining with private spaces for hire. The appointed interior design firm, The Design Agency’s priority was to use products which ensured the hub featured a refreshed aesthetic and functionality, without losing its much-loved heritage and style. Having already used Polyflor’s products across previous fit outs and design schemes, The Design Agency was familiar with the variety of colour options available in the Expona ranges, as well as their high quality performance. Knowing its flooring portfolio would complement the split-purpose design of the space, Polyflor’s coverings were installed across the two zones. Expona Commercial in Amber Classic Oak was fitted throughout the main dining space and communal areas, which required a certain element of bespoke fit out. One of the layout’s key features includes a 30ft-diameter bar, which acts as a centrepiece for the space, as well as its stage for live music, so the flexible capabilities offered by luxury vinyl tiles like Expona Commercial made it the perfect choice for this specification. Featuring surface textures and high clarity design films to create the aesthetic of real wood, Expona Commercial also enabled the design team to create an upmarket finish across the scheme. With a wear layer of 0.55mm, the covering provided high durability, while its additional layer of polyurethane reinforcement meant it could be easily cleaned and maintained against high footfall. Meanwhile, Expona Simplay in Black Ash was used in the building’s private spaces including VIP rooms and smaller suites. In the form of a loose lay luxury vinyl tile, Expona Simplay features a unique, non-skid honeycomb backing layer to ensure that tiles stay in position. It is also more resilient to uneven subfloors than alternative tiles, meaning less pre-installation prep is needed, making it quicker and easier to fit. Expona Simplay offers high durability and easy maintenance, and can also be easily uplifted and moved to be used elsewhere, making future renovations a more simple process. Marketing Rooms and Apartments for the Wood Wharf Development in Canary Wharf. However they wanted a more select floor which we were able to do by supplying 20% to 25% more than required to create a stunning near virtual Prime Black American Walnut floor at a fraction of the cost.A lot of other trades were also completing work at the site including the fit out of show apartments for the Wood Wharf Development. This meant that the floor had to be covered to protect the surface.The product was our E515 which is a 15mm thick oiled walnut.

Summer 2019 saw The Solid Wood Flooring Company work with Base Interior and other key suppliers to complete a refurbishment inspired by Scandi design in the affluent district of Kensington, London. Few people realise that it is possible to clad old stairs with our engineered herringbone parquet floors. It is a specialist skill and you should only employ trusted professionals who have the specialist equipment. The parquet blocks used here are unfinished so that you get perfect square edges. They are then oiled after all other works are completed so that you get your perfect floor. There is no separate stair nose piece as the top layer of solid Oak is a good 4mm thick and this allows the fitters to create an accurate mitre join.

Heavy commercial Affinity255 PUR luxury vinyl tiles from Polyflor were recently chosen to complete the stylish interior design scheme at The LiquorLab, a new cocktail bar at the Southwater development in Telford, Shropshire. The LiquorLab is Southwater’s first cocktail bar, with a laidback, industrial inspired design scheme created by local commercial kitchen and interior fit out company Catering Centre UK.
