Allegiant Stadium, Las Vegas, USA

PPG Protective Coatings

The Challenge Allegiant Stadium is a global events destination with a distinctive black and silver exterior and spectacular views of the Las Vegas Strip. PPG had to match these key colors and ensure this stadium reflected the visually stunning aesthetic that would be expected of a Las Vegas destination. This project required a tight adherence to deadlines, so coatings that would be easy to apply with long-lasting protection were necessary. The Solution PPG recommended the PPG AMERCOAT® 68 HS and PPG PSX® 700 coatings system for this project. PPG AMERCOAT 68 HS is a three-component zinc-rich epoxy primer that provides excellent corrosion protection with the ability to be top coated quickly. As this primer is made for carbon steel substrates and is ideal for projects where fast turnaround is needed, it helped with keeping the project on schedule. To meet the striking silver and black color requirements, MANICA Architecture specified PPG PSX 700 in “Black Gold” and “Silver Fox” colors. PPG PSX covered the building’s exposed and unexposed structural steel due to its extended resistance to ultraviolet (UV) exposure. The Benefits PPG PSX 700 hits the three critical points of easy application, lasting protection and outstanding visual aesthetics, which were all requirements of a highly visible project like the new Allegiant Stadium. With its excellent adhesion, outstanding corrosion and chemical resistance and long-term gloss and color retention, PPG PSX 700 was the perfect choice. It significantly outlasts the best three-coat systems for long lasting protection for Allegiant Stadium.

AET Flexible Space

Completed in December 2020, this redevelopment of an existing five-storey 1950’s office building in the heart of Holborn, includes a single-storey extension to the roof, an extension to the office plate to the rear by 3.5m, and an extensive internal reconfiguration. These renovations have created an additional 8000 sq. ft. of net internal area. For the 20 Red Lion Street redevelopment, there was a strong emphasis on creating, light, airy, and flexible office space. Using AET Flexible Space’s underfloor air conditioning system has allowed the project team to maximise floor to ceiling heights, natural light, and the adaptability of the office space. Working closely with M&E consultants, The GDM Partnership, AET’s CAM-C (floor supply, low level return) underfloor air conditioning system was specified to serve the newly built sixth floor. To ensure floor to ceiling heights were maximised a 200mm high raised access floor was installed within which AET’s unique TU350 slim line Fantiles™ were installed. Due to the proximity of the CAM unit to the exterior of the building, a perimeter return air path was used to maximise the supply air path. The sixth floor is glazed on three sides, meaning that solar gain was high, and that maximum air supply was needed to effectively regulate the temperature of the space. The C-35 Conditioned Air Module (CAM) is fed by an externally located, high efficiency heat pump which enables it to produce cool and warm air as and when required. The floor void is divided into supply and return air channels. Conditioned air is introduced into the space by the, floor recessed, Fantile™ units with spent, room air, drawn back to the CAM unit via passive, return grilles, which are also installed within the raised access floor. Fresh air is ducted into the return air path from a centralised air handling unit where it mixes with the room air, filtered and reconditioned helping the system to achieve high standards of indoor air quality. The newly built sections, including the bright and airy sixth floor office space, at 20 Red Lion Street has received an ‘Excellent’ BREEAM rating. The Stills (76 Turnmill Street), London

AET Flexible Space

This comprehensive refurbishment of a drab, 1970s Government-owned office block (formerly Layden House) has transformed the façade and created 38,000 sq. ft of contemporary office space. The building sits on the original site of the Booth’s Gin Distillery, in an area known historically for industry and trade. Alongside the office space, a new co-working space will provide an area for the tenants and their clients to meet and work. On the roof a new communal garden will provide another collaborative space to interact, and enjoy views of London. The use of AET’s underfloor air conditioning systems, which sit within the new raised-access floor, has allowed the design team to maximise floor to ceiling heights throughout the new office space, providing light and airy work spaces. Flexibility was also a key consideration for this project, especially as much of the office space will be co-working space, where adaptability is crucial. AET’s underfloor systems have allowed the design team to maximise floor to ceiling heights throughout, providing light and airy work spaces. The Stills project team used AET’s CAM-C (floor supply, floor return) across the 1st to 5th floors, and the CAM-V (floor supply, high level return) system on the 6th floor. Conditioned air is distributed into the void beneath the raised access floor and is induced into the space via AET’s unique Fantile units, which fit seamlessly into the floor, and can be easily relocated. A total of 213 Fantile units were used across the 6 floors of office space. Room air is drawn back to the Conditioned Air Module (CAM) within the floor void via the return air path which is segregated from the supply air using flexible, fire proof baffle which is also easily reconfigured during the fit out works to suit the office layout above. The imminent arrival of Crossrail at Farringdon Station, which sits directly opposite the building, will make this office space even more desirable, and the transformation of the ground floor into retail and restaurant units will further rejuvenate Turnmill street and create an welcome addition to this conservation area. The project is due for completion in Summer 2020.
