Safe Entry Flow System

Safe Entry Flow System

dormakaba UK & Ireland

Recognising the urgent requirement for the Co-op Group Food stores to continue to operate safely during the COVID-19 pandemic, dormakaba worked closely with the Group to create the Safe Entry Flow system. The solution can effectively control the flow of people in and out of premises to ensure social distancing guidelines can be maintained, and in store staff can be protected. Acting as an automatic door operator to control the flow of people into a store, Safe Entry Flow is a people counting system that uses 3D and Thermal Imagining to capture footfall data within a store. The counting system links to an automatic door operator, only allowing entry when the number of customers in the store is within a pre-set range (depending on the size of the retail unit), therefore creating a physical barrier to prevent overcrowding. The enhanced solution also provided Co-op with a wealth of data metrics of footfall within their stores, including turn-in rates.A traffic light system and sound box are also linked to the system to provide visible and audible signals to customers at the store entrance, providing a simple and enhanced end-user experience. This innovative solution enabled Co-op Food stores to comply with social distancing requirements, as outlined in the Government’s operating guidelines. The hardworking and dedicated team at dormakaba went from concept to rollout in just 44 days, to allow Co-op Food to operate as efficiently as possible within the COVID-19 climate. Ricky Walker, UK Delivery Director at dormakaba says, “the Co-op Group was looking for solutions for the Food stores to operate as conventionally as possible in unconventional times. Other measures had been trialled to ensure operations continued, however they did not find these as effective in maintaining Government guidelines. “The Group specifically required something to integrate with the automatic doors, that would create a physical barrier to controlling footfall, ensuring customers and staff are kept safe.” “Recognising this, our dedicated project team have developed a solution that forms a physical barrier for people, to ensure guidelines on limiting footfall are met. Safe Entry flow is supported with a designated Technical Support Program to provide assistance from installation through to aftersales maintenance. We’ve had extremely positive feedback from the Co-op Group, with installations still ongoing.”
Self-levelling pedestals for luxury London terrace

Self-levelling pedestals for luxury London terrace

Wallbarn Ltd

Balance self-levelling pedestals for paving were used on a luxury development in London on the large terrace areas. The scheme used 50mm thick limestone slabs cut in rectangular shapes and paid in a brick bond pattern. The deck was built to a fall, insulated and waterproofed. The specifier was keen to ensure the finished paved terrace had a smooth upper surface without ridges between slabs. The self-levelling nature of the Wallbarn Balance pedestal meant the pedestals tilted at the head in all directions so that when the slabs were laid they found their own flat upper surface level without the need for mechanical adjustments or having the lift the slab repeatedly to get the correct placement. Balance self-levelling pedestals are particularly suitable for roof decks with areas that are irregular or have bumps and ridges, such as paving over expansion joints, laps between felt waterproofing sheets and blemishes in concrete pour. The roof membrane beneath needed to be protected from abrasion, which was ensured by the large, circular base plates of 200mm diameter which adequately dispersed the weight without point loading. Balance pedestals are very easy to fit, the height is adjusted by twisting the telescopic stems by hand. This can be done when the slab is in position, a major labour and health & safety benefit. This is an open joint system, so rainwater falls between and beneath the slabs and there is a clear cavity between slabs and roof deck to allow free drainage and ventilation. There was significant traffic and furniture on this roof terrace and the specifier was keen to ensure the pedestals could take the weight long term. Balance pedestals have a normal working weight tolerance of 683kg per pedestal and can tolerate over 1 tonne in weight each before break point. They can withstand extremes of hot and cold temperatures and because they are manufactured from virgin fibre polypropylene will not become brittle in sub zero temperatures. The contractor, Richardson Roofing, states that they consider Wallbarn Balance pedestals to best quality self-levelling pedestal on the market and using it leads them to significant labour savings and lack of waste. The terrace was completed in a very short timescale and building was handed over to the client in time to secure sales quickly and for the purchaser to enjoy their new home, with its stunning views, in time for the good weather.

5 reasons for choosing a concealed door system

5 reasons for choosing a concealed door system

Ermetika

We are talking about flush to the wall doors, also known as concealed doors, or better "frameless systems", because the most important thing is not the door itself, but the system around it that allows it to disappear inside the wall when fully open. The main advantages of frameless doors are: Space-saving. Like all the pocket door systems, the frameless systems allow saving space. They became an essential choice for small or many rooms' apartments. The space saved in a medium dimension apartment is around 8% of the total floor area. Perfect wall integration. The flush doors do not break the succession wall-door-wall and give a beautiful aesthetical result. That's why most architects love them so much. Customize any frameless systems according to the client taste since the doors are provided in raw wood, ready to be varnished in the same finish of the wall in which they are installed, or covered with the same wallpaper that decorates the wall. However, you can follow the other and play with contrasting tones to make a creative and dynamic environment. Flexibly connect adjacent rooms. An essential advantage of frameless sliding systems is to join neighbouring rooms, creating continuity and space when required or giving privacy both optically and acoustically. If you can install a double door system, the frameless sliding doors allow the light to enter the room, making it an essential interior design feature. Hide technical rooms. A house has several functional spaces that must disappear from sight. In this case, the hinged flush with the wall doors is both practical and cheap. They can also be tiny doors for closets or traps that become invisible to the eye, i.e. Absolute Smart. Fit for any wall. The frameless sliding door system can be for plastered wall or plasterboard wall of different thicknesses. You can also have electrical wirings inside the pocket wall, choosing some models designed for this purpose, such as Absolute Energy. Harmony. The frameless doors can be combine with concealed skirting boards. The flush skirting meets simple, timeless elegance with comfort. Ideal for concealing and protecting electrical cables. Profiles with integrated LED lightings are available. i. e. Absolute Rush Frameless systems prices Pocket doors are becoming an architectural element integrated into our daily lives with a high benefit in design and quality. Thus, the selection of materials and finishes is of great importance from an economic point of view. The price of a complete pocket door system, including the door, can change a lot according to the model (classic or with unique features, single door or double), the door dimension, or the accessories (soft close, simultaneous opening, motorisation, etc.). The price level can start from 560,00£ for a simple model with a standard door and no accessories and go up to 1800£ for a double door top range system for glass door and accessories. Conclusion Our experience, which we have gained over time, enables us to state that the customers who decide to install a frameless pocket door system in their homes never regret it. On the contrary, the aesthetic pleasure of a functional solution increases day by day. Then, as you grow accustomed to such a kind of door, you no longer want to see traditional hinged doors in your home since you perceive them as the poorest furniture element.
