Hangzhou Stadium, with Sunpal architectural glazing

In a challenging logistical project, Palram has shipped 15,000m2 SUNPAL® panels to China. The panels are used as skylights and sidelights designed as flower petals, within a spectacular flower-shaped sports venue in the Olympic-sized main stadium of Hangzhou Sports Park. The stadium designers, NBBJ of the US and the Chinese CCDI who, already cooperated with Palram on the Huizhou stadium in 2009.
The panels, being 13.5 - 18.5m long, required a special logistical solution, these were then shipped to China in the under deck area of the cargo vessel.

Located in Nancy city centre, the Centre Prouvé is a cutting edge conference venue. Designed by Architect Marc Barani, the building flows out from a central hub and offers a range of city views from its meeting spaces, foyers, and panoramic reception area.
The Smokeguard solution was installed at Centre Prouvé. Smokeguard is a glass smoke barrier system which can keep toxic fumes at bay long enough to allow members of the public to exit the building safely, minimising the risk of smoke inhalation, injury and death.

The recent CAT B refurbishment situated on the 6th floor of the Lexicon Building in Manchester sees not only a stylish transformation of a vacant space, but also a unique opportunity to showcase Hollis' real commitment to sustainability. We created the lighting layout and a luminaire schedule, based on the client’s specification. Our team provided technical advice and working samples. In the main open plan office designed to accommodate 25 workstations, the designer’s favourite Rio Suspended was specified in matte black colour. In the quiet working area, Venta Track was used allowing the feature wall to stand out.
Motcombe Memorial Hall, Dorset

Motcombe Memorial Hall is a busy community hall in North Dorset, catering for a diverse range of activities from Scouts, Parish Council meetings and Pilates to Toddler Groups, as well as being a popular venue for weddings and birthday parties.
The building consists of two halls, the Main Hall, built in 1928 and the Pavilion, a modern glass-fronted extension added in 2008. Unfortunately what was gained in capacity was lost in functionality, ‘…no-one could hear a thing’ due to excessive reverberation.
The solution? several EcoTile Phonic acoustic panels were fitted to the Pavilion’s high vaulted ceiling.
Old War Office, London
EFFISUS
The 760,000 sq ft development will bring the Old War Office back into use, creating a world class 5-star hotel and 85 apartments. Works will include developing a six storey basement and constructing a three storey roof extension. The venue has been designed by UK-based EPR Architects, with the hotel interiors designed by New York-based designer Thierry Despont, and the residences by 1508 London.
A1 Fire Rated Breather and Vapour FR Membranes were used to protect the insulation and building interior, maximizing its energy efficiency and value.
ROBIN HOWARD DANCE THEATRE - THE PLACE THEATRE

PROJECT OVERVIEW
At the heart of The Place is the Robin Howard Dance Theatre, a venue which offers an intimate setting for dance and currently plays host to over 200 performances a year.
SOLUTION
After intensive design meetings we developed a scheme that would ultimately provide a bespoke seating solution for the theatre. The Gallery Extra chair was the specified seating type, chosen for it’s outstanding levels of comfort and high specification finish. In total 140 chairs were provided on power operated TP retractable platforms with an additional 138 fixed chairs for the balcony.
Loch Fyne Restaurant, Cheshire

A Grade II listed Royal George building in Knutsford was sympathetically restored to create a stunning dining venue for the Loch Fyne brand.
During the restoration project, contractor A&J Interiors specified 4 of Howe Green’s 5000 Series floor access covers.
The covers were required to provide an unobtrusive access solution to cover the kitchen’s essential mains services whilst maintaining fast and easy access for maintenance or emergency repairs.
Blending seamlessly with the flooring the covers avoid distortion and prevent the risk of slips and trips – essential within a busy kitchen environment.
Acklam Hall - Middlesbrough
Johnstone's Trade Paints - a brand of PPG Industries
A wedding venue that showcases a Historic England perfectly has been transformed using Johnstone’s decorative paints. Specified for its high quality finish and whiteness properties, Johnstone’s Covaplus Vinyl Matt in off-white was used to paint the elegant hallway of the grade 1 listed building. As well as being applied on the walls and ceilings of the spectacular reception. Johnstone’s Acrylic Durable Matt was used in the food and bar area, due to its outstanding durability. Additionally, Johnstone’s Satin Woodstain was used on the hand rails of the balconies to protect the wood from decay.
The Word, Nation Centre for the Written Word

Multi award winning state of the art cultural venue The Word, featuring extensive and creative lighting solutions by Hacel. The Word is a hub of creative and inspirational spaces offering continued celebration of the written word in all its forms showcased through a rolling program of events, exhibitions and workshops. With the cutting edge circular design structure, an impressive lighting specification with a modern influence was essential to reflect the ideology and encompassing arrangement of the building. Class leading artistic Hacel luminaires, equipped aesthetically and technically, contributed and supported the outstanding, architecturally creative building.
The Hydro: Infill panels for the balustrade were supplied by Lang+Fulton, made from Micro-34 architectural grating.

The SSE Hydro is the biggest performance arena ever designed by Foster+Partners.
One of the main points of access to the venue is across an elevated walkway. Infill panels for the balustrade were supplied by Lang+Fulton, made from Micro-34 architectural grating; the galvanized finish and rectilinear appearance complimenting the surrounding buildings.
Continuity throughout the overall project was achieved with a Roma-3 grating fence and entrance gates to secure the northern perimeter of the site. In addition, a series of Roma-3 compounds were designed for the secure storage of Events Catering deliveries.

Lang+Fulton have now supplied a decorative solution for the stage entrance constructed from their STEREO-KINETIC
cladding system. Each stainless steel sheet is engraved with name of an artist, commemorating their performance.
When the Hydro first opened in 2013 Lang+Fulton supplied the Roma-3 grating fence which secures the perimeter of the complex and storage compounds, as well as a Micro-15 balustrade for the elevated walkway which connects the car parking facilities with the venue.

Derby Arena

The £27.5 million Arena heralds the most exciting and important changes to leisure facilities in Derby in the last 40 years. The new arena is primarily a Velodrome with space for sports and physical activity; however it also serves as a venue to host cultural events, exhibitions, product launches and conferences.
Prospec Marathon Connect cubicles, Marathon laminate lockers, vanity units and benching are installed throughout all of the changing areas.
A spectacular curved bank of low level lockers dominates the outfield circulation area, creating both a focal point and a huge volume of storage.
Expona Flow flooring adds vibrant touch to the University of Nottingham

Heavy commercial Expona Flow PUR sheet vinyl flooring from Polyflor was installed in the School of Life Sciences building at the University of Nottingham to help create a striking break out area for students to relax, work and grab a snack in between lectures.
Around 300 m² of Expona Flow high design vinyl flooring was installed by Derbyshire Floorcraft Ltd in the Life Sciences building’s vending machine lounge. The bold and graphic Firelight design was chosen from the Infinity collection within the Expona Flow product range by main contractor Petric Contracts.

Situated on the 1st floor concourse of St Pancras Station London is a venue that has refreshed and invigorated many of the international travellers passing through the terminal.
The St Pancras Champagne Bar boasts of a world famous clientele and houses one of the busiest kitchens in the capital.
Ryebrook Resins were appointed to replace the existing floorboards and then provide a seamless, hygienic floor finish that met the requirements for functionality as well as health and safety. Ryeflor RT water based polyurethane rapid curing system was installed in a rolling programme to allow the kitchen to continue trading.
Merlin thinks Sadolin is magic for pub application

SADOLIN has been drafted in to help transform a pub into a stunning venue in the heart of the East Midlands with a range of superior woodcare solutions.
The Maltsters Country Inn was in a state of disrepair when Merlin Griffiths, bartender and owner of Greenhouse Pubs, took over.
To help with the restoration project, he turned to Sadolin PV67 Heavy Duty Varnish and Sadolin Superdec after hearing glowing reports about the products.
Merlin Griffiths, a well-known face in the drinks industry with appearances on TV screens and in the media, also owns a second pub in Kilburn, London.
Former Pub to Community Hub: Selectaglaze acoustic secondary glazing supports

Following years of neglect, the Grade II Listed Fellowship, Bellingham - London has undergone a huge transformation and in June 2019 reopened as the ‘Fellowship and Star’.
Harking back to its history as a music and entertainment venue, it has a new cinema, theatre, concert space, pub; and is also home to charity ‘Lewisham Music’.
To prevent the ingress of traffic noise from a busy thoroughfare outside and to prevent noise outbreak from the concerts and music lessons, 32 secondary glazed acoustically insulating units were manufactured and installed by Selectaglaze, to improve the performance of the original crittal windows.
Everyman Cinema, Altrincham

The new 4-screen Everyman Cinema in the town centre of Altrincham was created by refurbishing a vacant former retail unit.
Designed by Fusion DNA, the striking building envelope features Senior’s high-performance, fully capped SF52 aluminium curtain walling. With exceptional thermal efficiency and attractive slim sightlines, the SF52 system created a welcoming entrance to the venue and a bright and attractive interior for the first-floor bar and restaurant.
The new cinema also features Senior’s robust SPW501 commercial aluminium doors, which are ideally suited to high traffic retail and leisure schemes.

A Stannah people-moving platform lift is welcoming mobility compromised patrons to Dishoom Kensington, a London restaurant that rekindles the cosmopolitan romance of Irani cafés in 1940s Jazz Age Bombay.
Filled with original period and bespoke pieces, this atmospheric venue calls on its access lift to escort people of all mobilities, from bag-laden buggy-pushers to wheelchair users, between ground-floor entrance to the bar / dining room with its Bombay comfort food and live jazz.

During the recent hosting of the Formula 1 Grand Prix at Silverstone, partitioning experts from Style were requested to be on hand at a prestigious hospitality venue, ensuring a crucial moveable wall system that divides the main room into private spaces for the world’s sporting press, operated smoothly and with maximum acoustic performance.
Style’s aftercare and service division offers regular check-ups of almost any partitioning wall system, helping maintain the acoustic performance of the system, extend its lifespan, as well as ensuring operation remains within current health and safety guidelines.
Alex House, University of Wales – Swansea

University of Wales in Swansea has invested £8million into the refurbishment, restoration and extension of the Grade II listed former Central Library building to create the new Institute for Sustainable Design.
Devised by Powell Dobson Architects, the development incorporates a stunning twin wall façade featuring AluK curtain walling systems, complementing and adding a new dimension to the original design.
The modern, double skin façade extension provides an additional 657m2, and incorporates a new reception entrance, workshops, teaching spaces and design studios. The original circular reading room has also been restored and made available as a public venue.

The Elite Training Centre, home of Team GB Wheelchair Basketball, houses DYNAMIK’s sprung engineered oak flooring.
This is an ideal surface for wheelchair users to aid the glide of wheelchairs as the low rolling resistance of sprung systems finished with a solid ‘non-spongy’ playing surface, allows chairs to easily glide across the floor.
JAO TSUNG-I ACADEMY, HONG KONG

PROJECT OVERVIEW
The Jao Tsung-I Academy was developed by the Hong Kong Institute for Promotion of Chinese Culture. The former Lai Chi Kok Hospital, a Grade III historic building, was transformed into a dynamic complex for promoting cultural activities. The site reconstruction included landscaped gardens, galleries, exhibition halls, restaurant, theatre, 19 classrooms/workshops, information and resources centres and reading rooms.
SOLUTION
We designed a bespoke seating solution encompassing 84 chairs over 8 platforms, with an additional 10 nose mounted row zero chairs to maximise capacity within the venue.
Major movable wall project - ICCW, UK

The International Convention Centre Wales opened its doors in September 2019. This state-of-the-art meeting venue covers all types of activities from smaller meetings to group training, conferences through to conventions and large exhibitions. This dynamic flexible space has no fewer than 15 meeting rooms, a 4,000sqm pillar free hall and an auditorium which can host up to 5000 delegates at the same time. A key desire in the exhibition hall was the provision of flexibility with quick set up time, easy operational handling, great acoustics and a finish that would match the perimeter walls.

The recently refurbished Old Low Lights venue opened its doors as a heritage and community hub. Located at the heart of North Shields Fish Quay, the museum offers a unique experience to explore 900 years of maritime heritage. The Old Low Lights building dating back to the 18th Century, commanded refined, architectural lighting and Hacel were at the forefront in providing a range of class leading LED luminaires, offering outstanding performance and contemporary design. The three storey building hosts a cafe, an outside public space with beautiful views over the river mouth, a museum and a function area for hire.

We installed our Mezzo toilet cubicles, manufactured in white solid grade laminate (SGL) with satin anodised aluminium curved pilasters, at this popular London music venue as part of an extensive refurbishment.
The bright white SGL cubicles doors and partitions were designed to highlight the striking, unique artwork on the Concerto duct panels installed behind the wall-hung WC pans in each cubicle. Manufactured from highly durable SGL, the duct panels each feature a different digitally printed graphic. All the graphics were specially designed by the architect to reflect the personality and style of The Borderline.

Broadway Plaza is a multi-use facility based in Birmingham City centre; in use 24 hours a day, it houses an array of eateries, leisure and accommodation venues.
Water ingress had caused fire retardant paint to peel from the metal structure.
IKO Permascreed was introduced to reduce the risk of gassing from the saturated screed.
IKO Polimar Fillers and Levelling Mortar were installed to take deflections from the surface. IKO Polimar FCS Walkway System was then applied.
Escalators were removed and staircases installed with an IKO Polimar FCS finish.

Selwyn College has been fully transformed after two years of extensive refurbishment and expansion work due to an increase in student numbers and the need for more accommodation. The multi-functional Diamond meeting room facilities was also upgraded with exclusive energy efficient lighting. Used as a conference room, concert hall and private party venue, the Diamond has been kitted out with a range of high efficiency Hacel LED luminaires, bringing together architectural style and innovation with outstanding performance to create an engaging and inspiring multi-functional meeting environment.
LED Lighting - The Met, Bury

An independent arts and entertainment venue, The Met hosts a mixture of theatre, music and comedy. Since closing in March 2016, the Grade II listed building has undergone a significant refurbishment to create a new and improved performance space and facilities. We supplied our specialist LED step lighting system.
Fran Healy, Project Manager for The Met refurbishment, commented: “The LED lighting system has helped to create a safe and inclusive environment for all building users. Gradus were able to offer a full project management service based on our specification needs and we’re very pleased with the end result.”
Riverside Studios arts and media centre

LAMILUX designed, supplied and installed both the supporting steelwork and atrium glazing to illuminate the central zone of the venue with natural daylight. Structural calculations were generated to ensure that the steelwork, which was assembled from five sections, could withhold the weight of the high spec glazing used. 76 fixed panes, walkable for maintenance and weighing 65kg per m², create the 20m x 9m wide unusual curved glass roof with wall abutment detail. 3 anchor points, which forms part of the rooflight system, were installed so that maintenance personnel are able to fix their safety harnesses onto the anchor points.
Murchison House has all angles covered with Heradesign

Murchison House, received a significant refurbishment, giving the University of Edinburgh a new purpose-designed venue. Reconfigured to provide light-filled, comfortable spaces for students and staff, architects Reiach & Hall specified Knauf AMF Heradesign for a first-class acoustic solution aligning with the university’s contemporary design brief.
A suspended raft system in the café and breakout area was created using Heradesign. Cut to create triangular rafts, the floating ceiling solution offered the illusion of height and provides excellent acoustic performance. In the study areas, 100m2 of Heradesign wall absorbers were installed throughout the study zones continuing the geometric theme.
Easy Glass Slim + Q-line: FIFA World Cup stadium Brazil
Q-railing
Located in Manaus, the heart of the Brazilian rain forest, the Arena Amazônia stadium was a FIFA World Cup 2014 venue. It features Q-railing glass railings, posted balustrades and handrails. The handrails and railings run between stadium areas and are used in staircases and exits. Faced with stringent requirements, Q-railing’s record in other stadium projects spoke volumes. Nearly 8,000 metres of Q-railing products were installed, including Easy Glass Slim, Easy Glass 3kN glass balustrades and Q-line baluster railings. Q-railing products, with their clean, contemporary design, are a perfect match for its unique architecture.
