Transforming an Attic into an Energy-Efficient Storage Space in South Wales with SubFloor Raised Flooring

Floor Levelling Systems Ltd

SubFloor raised flooring was used to renovate, raise and level a 25 m² loft to allow for deeper insulation near Llanelli, South Wales. The SubFloor system was used to transform an attic renovation. By increasing the void height, this revolutionary solution not only allowed for enhanced insulation but also significantly improved the energy efficiency of the entire building. Enhanced Energy Efficiency:By replacing the existing 100 mm insulation with a superior 200 mm insulation, the entire building's energy consumption underwent a drastic reduction. This upgrade meant lower energy bills, a reduced carbon footprint, and a more environmentally friendly space. Flawless Floor Levelling and Efficient Storage:Say goodbye to uneven floors and wasted space! With the introduction of the screw and joist system, the SubFloor system seamlessly transformed the attic. This innovative setup not only adjusted the uneven floor to become completely level but also paved the way for efficient storage solutions. 22 mm chipboard was fixed on top, supported by fibre-reinforced screws and high-quality pine, ensured that the SubFloor system effortlessly met all load requirements. Versatility and Speed:Flexibility was key in the successful implementation of the SubFloor system. Its adaptability to varying floor heights proved to be a true asset. The 3.6 m long joists allowed for easy setup and adjustment, effortlessly conforming to the unique shapes of different rooms. Even after installation, the joists could be easily raised or lowered to achieve the desired height, ensuring a swift and efficient assembly process. Testimony“Very glad I found your system as almost every leg needed to be a different length in this old house. Hempaline Defend makes the grade at Shell storage depot in The Netherlands

Hempel A/S

Shell Nederland operates a large fuel storage depot in Arnhem distributing fuel to gas stations throughout The Netherlands. With a number of storage tanks on site, regular maintenance to protect against corrosion is essential. In this instance, they required an internal lining for their Tank 214.Poor linings can result in substantial losses due to asset downtime as tanks and vessels are left out of action as a result of corrosion. It was essential that the tank was protected with a coating that would perform exceptionally with extremely corrosive contents, whilst maximising the assets lifetime and minimising downtime.Originally the project was set to be completed with another lining, but ultimately it was Hempaline Defend 630 Cure 72 Epoxy that was used.

TDC Glass Manufacturing

TDC Glass Manufacturing

Ansell Lighting

TDC Glass Company, based in Romania, are experts when it comes the production of glass with over 23 years of experience.Offering a wide array of products, TDC pride themselves on premium services, reliability, and professionalism. This ethos is instilled throughout the entire company. Nothing short of perfection is accepted at TDC’s manufacturing facility. This meant the older sodium-vapor lighting fixtures were redundant and a lighting upgrade was essential to further boost productivity and visibility.Prior to the upgrade, the lux levels in the production zone were reaching 40-50 lux (lux is a standardised unit of measurement of light level intensity). This didn’t meet the Romanian standard of 250 lux for a production area and 150 lux for storage areas.Planning commenced on the lighting overhaul and after careful examination of the entire facility, it was deemed appropriate to source two different products that could meet the lighting requirements for each zone. Our Z LED Performance and Tornado Pro were identified as the perfect LED solutions for the TDC Glass manufacturing facility. Below is a breakdown of the zones and where each product was installed:-           Windows production zone (AZPELED)-          Glass storage area (AZPELED)-          Window assembly and testing area (ATORPLED)-          Glass cutting area (AZPELED)-          Windows storage area (ATORPLED)Looking more closely at the Z LED Performance, the die-cast powder coated construction and heatsink for optimum thermals and performance make it the perfect solution for providing illumination to the production zones. Coming in 100W, 150W and 200W, a long with a five-year warranty and an array of options such as Emergency, Integral Microwave Sensor and OCTO Smart Control, Z LED Performance is the ultimate low/high bay.Bolstering the Z LED Performance’s industrial credentials are the high specification IP65 and IK08 ratings and to further improve the installation experience, the robust high bay has alternative installation options by means of drop rods, jack chain and catenary wire. Bracket accessories are also available for ceiling or wall mounting. This provided the electrical contractors several potential options of installation at the TDC Glass manufacturing facility. Additionally, it comes pre-wired with 3M of H07RN-F cable for added ease and speed of installation. Most importantly, Z LED Performance now allowed TDC to achieve the required lux levels in those specific zones. The Tornado Pro provided the illumination for the assembly and testing area as well as the windows storage area. Tornado Pro comes with a hugely impressive seven-year warranty, multiple wattages, and options such as Self-Test Emergency, Digital Dimming, Dali Emergency, Integral Microwave Sensor, and OCTO Smart Control, allowing you to select the Tornado Pro most suited to the project requirements. With all our Pro products, we design them with the installer at the core of our thinking. That’s why Tornado Pro comes with installer friendly imbedded features that aid accurate and fast installation for any application. Features such as quick release LED array/gear tray assembly provide the installer the means to faster installation/maintenance and fast latching/permanently located stainless steel side clips ensure a quick and secure connection.Powered by a Tridonic LED driver and boasting an LED lifespan L80 B10 54,000 hours, Tornado Pro ticked all the boxes for what TDC required. The most important factors in this lighting upgrade were to ensure TDC met the lighting regulations for each zone, increased visibility and ensuring the products installed were reliable. Z LED Performance and Tornado Pro met all these requirements and even exceeded expectations.TDC now enjoy better lighting and reduced consumption by 60%. Making the facility greener, more efficient, and more illuminated.

Circonomy Cycle Shelter - Severn Beach, Avonmouth

IAE

Cycle storage for new industrial units and office spaceAs part of a new development near Bristol, which included 4 new industrial units set for various uses, IAE Shelter Division supplied a series of Circonomy Cycle Shelters to provide dry and secure cycle storage, with the aim of encouraging more cycle use on the daily commute. The industrial units varied in size and included manufacturing, warehousing, and office space. As the units varied in size, each unit required a different number of cycle spaces. This is both for practical purposes, and to ensure the development meets BREEAM guidelines, which require a certain amount of dry, secure cycle storage spaces, depending on the number of people occupying the building, and the size of the building.Extendable Modular DesignThe Circonomy Cycle Shelters modular design meant it was ideal to meet these requirements. An individual Circonomy Cycle shelter fits 5 cycle hoops and is suitable to securely store 10 bicycles. Extensions can be added to the end of the shelter to increase capacity as needed. Individual shelter units, cycle hoops and extensions are all available from stock at IAE Shelters. The modular design meant the same style of shelter could be used across all the different sized units on the development to provide a consistent look across the site.Low Impact StylingBREEAM guidelines also state that the cycle storage has to be in a prominent, easy to access location to encourage cycle use, and not hidden around the back of the unit to hide it from site. The low impact styling of the Cicrconomy Cycle Shelter provides an unobtrusive look and means the shelter can be easily dropped into a site layout without concerns about it affecting the overall look of the project. To finish the design, the galvanised frames were powder coated anthracite grey to give a contemporary look.Specifying IAE SheltersThe Circonomy Cycle Shelter is IAE's most popular shelter, with hundreds installed around the country. To add the shelter to your project check out the featured products section below, or contact IAE Shelters directly.

FIREFLY™ TITAN Lite™ Protecting Life and History at new British Museum Facility

FIREFLY™ TITAN Lite™ Protecting Life and History at new British Museum Facility

FIREFLY™ TBA

The decision by the British Museum to move a substantial part of its collection of historical artefacts from storage in London to a new state-of-the-art facility in Reading has led to a major fire-stopping contract for a specialist sub-contractor; featuring the use of the FIREFLY™ TITAN Lite™ 120:60 from the TBA FIREFLY™ range. The development at Cutbush Lane East, in the Shinfield district, has seen main contractor Graham Construction awarded a £30million contract for the erection and fit out of the new facility and while the original specification for the well proven and widely used FIREFLY product came from project architects, John McAslam + Partners, the installation and on site expertise was provided by St. Albans based Loftus Construction Solutions Ltd. in installing the 60 rolls of TITAN Lite™ in line with the manufacturer’s standard details and project specific guidance. The Project Manager for Graham Construction, Andrew Gardner, commented: “The British Museum is closing down its storage facility in central London and moving it here to the new research and storage building in Reading, which we expect to complete early next summer (2022). In terms of the fire barriers these have been designed with both life safety and asset protection prioritised: preventing break out of fire from places like plant rooms, and also the protection of dividing walls from both sides.“This has meant the use of in excess of 30 different details including bespoke ones which has led to TBA/Loftus assisting in further developing the initial specification by JMP to suit the unique site conditions. FIREFLY made several visits to site and offered a lot of useful technical guidance and assisted with alterations being made, while Loftus Construction Solutions Ltd has done very good work on the installation of these complex solutions.”Patrick Loftus, MD of Loftus Construction Solutions Ltd, added: “As an ASFP accredited contractor in conjunction with our FIRAS and LPCB Accreditation’s for Passive Fire Protection System we are familiar with the FIREFLY range and have, in fact been using another product from the range (PHOENIX) for three years in work at Whitechapel Station as part of the overall Crossrail Scheme. Again this has enabled us to be meet our Clients’ needs for multiple unique details on another complex project. TBA complements our on-site activities with their excellent technical support which ensures we can deliver on all aspects of projects to our Clients requirements.Combined with all the site reports, our operatives have undergone training from FIREFLY, including training delivered on-site. The work here in Reading is progressing very well in terms of all the compatibility of connection details and all stakeholders involved are pleased with the results and suitability of the products and installation work carried out.”As a flexible, woven material TITAN Lite™ is easy to cut and fix and is chemically treated to improve its cooling properties, meaning it will prevent temperatures rising in adjoining areas when used to create compartmentation. It is installed as a three-layer, staggered system to achieve 120 minutes integrity and 60 minutes insulation. The system has been fully tested to BS 476 Parts 20 & 22 and is third party certified by IFCC.
