The mid-20th century sadly brought some demolition; but many of the remaining properties are now listed, and all are in a conservation area. In 2012 Riverside Housing Group commissioned TRC to undertake refurbishment work to over 70 properties in Pelham Grove, Bedford Street, Belvidere Street and Princess Road. Matching stone in Norfolk

Matching stone in Norfolk

Powdertech (Corby) Ltd

Project Overview:Reducing the visual impact of guttering systems on the design of buildings is always a challenge for designers and architects. One solution is to use these systems as an architectural feature in themselves. The Justice Court collection of retirement homes in Cromer is one such case. These beautiful red brick and stone buildings have an aluminium guttering system combining the gutter, fascia and eves functions together with fascia panels above and below the large bay windows. The design intention was that these aluminium elements should resemble the feature stone band running across the building and to become a design statement in their own right. A close match to the shade and texture of the stone was required, and a consistency of colour throughout to emphasise the clean lines of the guttering & fascia system. The SolutionPowdertech Corby's Landscape range is a collection of high performance polyester powder coatings with shades and textures reflecting those found in our natural surroundings. Powdertech worked with their client to find a close match to the stone on the building. The amount of material to be coated required two batches so it was essential to have absolute colour consistency between batches. The total area coated was approximately 250m2.On the finished building the guttering, soffit and fascia look as though they are made of stone, providing a most pleasing effect. At Powdertech we were delighted to demonstrate our expertise for colour and texture matching. The final result vindicates our passion for this aspect of our work.BenefitsThe Landscape collection of powder coatings bring the warmth and texture of natural elements to the technical benefits of an architectural systems. There are currently eight Landscape ranges with over 40 shades. Customised shades can also be made. Landscape provides an ideal solution where the design calls for a highly specific colour tone to blend or complement natural surroundings.

ABG creative geosynthetic engineering

Quarry Bank is an old cotton mill in Cheshire, now operated by the National Trust it attracts large numbers of visitors daily. A permeable run off was required to allow the car park to be used without issue all year around as there had been problems with saturation previously. A solution was required without having to replace the first lift of soil that was already down. To stabilise the soft spots, Abweb back filled with the existing cappings meant further excavation was not required. Abgrid and Trigrid enabled the target CBR to be met with 30% less sub base needed.

TRC Restoration

The City of London School for Girls charts its history back to 1894. However, it was in 1969 that it moved to its current home in the Barbican, designed by architects Chamberlin, Powell and Bon. The Barbican estate was granted Grade II status in 2001. After almost 50 years of service the huge bespoke teak casement windows needed substantial maintenance; hence the City of London appointed TRC to undertake a comprehensive refurbishment programme. The work was completed in two 10-week phases, to coincide with summer holidays; and despite the tight timescale was finished on time and on budget.

Wyvern School

Wyvern School

TRC Restoration

TRC was appointed by Milton Keynes County Council to undertake refurbishment of the original school windows. The building would still be occupied during the 14-week programme, so extreme care was needed to minimise disruption to teaching and ensure health and safety. Scaffolding was erected throughout the project, and any disruptive work was carried out after school and during break times. Our comprehensive window refurbishment programme included stripping back existing paint from the historic sash windows and repairing decayed timber as necessary. We undertook repairs to glazing; and installed draught proofing to improve the building’s thermal and acoustic containment.

TRC Restoration

TRC was recommended by Julian Harrap Architects, thanks to our successful work at Cliveden House (internal link to project). The 2½ year project involved a thorough refurbishment of 150 sash windows, including timber repairs, draught proofing, and provision of ironmongery. We also applied high-performance secondary glazing to a further 52 windows. Through our sister brand TRC Windows we supplied and installed two large, uniquely-designed rooflights, to a challenging design specification. Due to the value of the artwork and its sensitivity to light, these needed to conform to exacting standards of security of spectral data.
