Sim Chem House in Cheadle Hulme was a six storey office block built in the 1960s. The building had been empty for many years and fallen into disrepair. It was purchased by developers Inspired Homes to be redeveloped into 184 studio, one and two bed ultra-high quality apartments aimed at young homeowners.

Farrow Court, Ashford - Sheltered housing

Farrow Court, in Ashford, is a modern, vibrant older people’s housing scheme designed to enhance quality of life through innovative, thoughtful design.
Built in two phases, Farrow Court will eventually comprise 84 care-ready apartments, an eight bed recuperative care centre, 12 independent living apartments for people with learning disabilities, a shop, hairdressers and therapy room, along with an Age UK Community Resource Centre.
Calvert Trust, Kielder
Innova Care Concepts
The Calvert Trust was set up to provide a fully-accessible luxury holiday home for people with disabilities and their families to stay in. As such, they wanted to make sure that any accessible equipment included in their lodges and chalets was as discreet as possible.
We worked with them on their Kielder campus, and created bespoke Integralift hidden hoist systems to go around the double bed from either side.

Another aspect of the room comfort is also that there is e.g. a shower stool in the shower and a hinged support rail next to the toilet. Each room is designed individually so that the furnishings are perfectly matched the guests' personal preferences.

Located within a conservation area in Salford, Timekeepers Square is a development of 36 two, three and four bed townhouses adjacent to the Grade II* listed St Phillips church; and the Georgian square which it fronts. The scheme forms part of the English Cities Fund’s Salford Central regeneration scheme which is regenerating more than 50 acres of Salford’s historic centre. The product used for this project is Wienerberger's Forum Smoked Branco brick.

Creating a domestic-looking environment was key to this – and the client and designers chose our doorsets throughout.

Bespoke CorTen steel planter system for a challenging environment

Handyside is a compact, contemporary space that comprises a children’s play area for families to enjoy.
The pathways were created with curved plant and tree beds, defined with Perimeta HiGrade Bespoke organic shaped raised planters in CorTen steel. The landscape also called for a steel planter system that could accommodate varying heights.
The Kinley team worked closely with Townshend Landscape Architects right from the concept stages of the ambitious design to engineer a planter system that created and enhanced the vision.

Artform suggested a mixture of sleek reconstituted granite and simple natural granite benches. Anastasio-Makatite benches were chosen to face out to sea and to partially form planting beds with a variety of local flowers. This helped to improve the appearance of the promenade as well as providing a wonderful vantage point for people to sit and take in the sea views. Local points of reference and historical facts were also included on floor plaques directly in front of the benches so that they could be viewed and enjoyed whilst sitting on the seats.

Tarkett chosen for NHS teenage cancer unit - The unit at Southampton General NHS Hospital was funded by the Teenage Cancer Trust and designed to create a space as comfortable as possible. Featuring six en-suite bedrooms, a four bed day unit, social space and support facilities. The bright and engaging décor of the centre was created using a variety of Tarkett flooring. The Tarkett flooring used included iQ Optima in Yellow, Medium Blue and Green, iQ Eminent in Turquoise and Acczent Excellence 80 in Bamboo.
ASF Bespoke Corten Planter / Seat

ASF Manufactured this large planter and seat from corten steel. The structure of the planter is 100% corten, manufactured as modular sections that were transported to site in sections and simply put together in situ. The seat area is a lowered platform alongside a running edge of the planter with hardwood seat slats attached to the top with invisible fixings. The seat area brings the lowered side up to full planter height so people can sit alongside the raised garden bed the planter creates.

To complete the contemporary professional environment that Mills & Reeve wanted, Komfort’s Sonik Slide double glazed sliding doors were installed to all the meeting rooms. The Sonik collection provides enhanced acoustic performance whilst also creating an open-plan modern feel.
For the stunning fully glazed atrium, which stretched above the ground floor restaurant, Komfort’s Polar single glazing was used. Polar single glazed is designed with a minimum number of components, and thus facilitates the speed of erection without compromising structural stability and rigidity.
Polar single glazing was also used on the office fronts with timber doorframes.
Southwyck House (the Barrier Block), Brixton, London

In 2016 award-winning landscape designers, The Edible Bus Stop, were commissioned by the Brixton BID to deliver a legacy installation for the Brixton Design Trail as part of the London Design Festival.Their brief was to create a parklet at the entrance to this famously foreboding building. The space had been habitually populated by street drinkers and labelled an anti-social environment by the residents and neighbouring businesses. The brief was to challenge the notion that the addition of seating and creating a space to dwell would increase anti-social behaviour and, on the contrary, that good design could improve perceptions of safety and empower a sense of wellbeing in a community.During the summer, planting beds were refurbished and many edibles and herbs, including fruit trees, were planted. Several Vestre Stripes elements were installed to punctuate the space with communal seating. The parklet was an instant success and quickly populated by residents of all ages, passers-by and visitors to local businesses. AKRI provides attractive planting solution in new public space

Furnitubes provisioned a number of AKRI raised planter beds for the scheme, the flexibility of the product permitted the creation of a unique stepped solution that was required at specific intervals in the planter to allow for the various changes in levels. A total of 26 meters of AKRI retaining walls were provided in heights of 670mm to accommodate the stepped solution, each planter comprising two internal soil retaining supports to provide increased strength to retain the contents. A return fold with additional anti-skates outlined the rim of the planters to maximise strength and not form a potential harmful edge.

We brought some of their team to our private showroom to go through the product range and take a closer look at certain items they were interested in. The Grid

The Grid is a four-storey project in Leeds, it consists of 11 apartments housing 38 beds with a cycle store, gym and laundry facilities. Its modern approach to design fits the aesthetic choices of university students while landscaped grounds offer an area of calm with limited parking for each flat.The Grid makes perfect use of Carlton’s Wolds Minster Blend and its internal contemporary leanings. The dark orange, red, purple and brown bricks create a harmonious visual synergy with the ageing brickwork in the surrounding area.

Visitors of all mobilities to the Alexandra Hotel in Fort William in the Scottish Highlands are thankful for Stannah Lifts’ recent passenger lift refurbishment.
Why? Because, with five floors to navigate in this 93-bed hotel, the lift takes the strain off compromised legs—of all ages and capabilities—in an area known for its outdoor challenges and sites of historic interest.
The lift refurb is one of three for this eight-strong hotel group, with similar revamps in sister hotels, The Royal Hotel in Oban, and the Cumbria Grand Hotel in Grange-over-Sands, Cumbria.

IKO Single Ply’s Spectraplan SM120 light grey single ply waterproofing system was overlaid to the existing roof and newly built sun rooms, ready to receive a green roof system.
Cambridge University Botanical Gardens | Commercial Non-Slip Decking Case study

Gripsure non-slip decking made from Accoya® wood was specified for the Rising Path Project at Cambridge University’s Botanic Garden. The Rising Path is one of the gardens’ biggest horticulture projects. It revitalises the three-acre Systematic Beds, which were first laid out in 1845. The striking structure offers visitors new ways to explore plant taxonomy. The 65-metre-long spiral structure was designed by Chadwick Dryer Clarke as a gently sloping path stemming off from the gardens’ existing path network. The path leads visitors to a viewing platform with a three-metre vantage point from which the full layout of the Systematic Beds can be enjoyed. The structural frame is formed from galvanized steel with the majority of the structure built from Accoya® wood, which was selected for its durability, stability and clean aesthetic. To ensure safe access all year round the walkway and stairs needed to be slip-resistant. We supplied over 1,300 hundred linear metres of Gripsure non-slip decking made from Accoya® wood, backed with our ten-year non-slip performance guarantee. Along the pathway are sections of landing points that highlight some of the plants’ significant evolutionary innovations, which allowed them to leave the water for life on land. At these points, Gripsure Graphics non-slip deck boards were supplied to create custom typographics. The boards needed to provide a visual contrast to the main decking as well as displaying information for visitors. Project architects Chadwick Dryer Clarke and Designmap (whose design was inspired by the work of the artist Gordon Young) developed the graphic design of the boards. A representative from Chadwick Dryer Clarke said “Gripsure’s approach was positive and collaborative, with a real interest in supporting the design team and project. A number of prototypes were developed that refined the depth, size and edge clarity of lettering, and the successful result has a crispness and quality that exceeds the design aspirations.” The Rising Path is a well-crafted and elegant structure which enhances the experience of the Systematic Beds which are of global heritage significance. It has had very positive feedback from visitors since its opening.

Modular seating for University of Leicester, Brookfield Campus

Brookfield is a recent acquisition that the University of Leicester is developing to offer supplementary and upgraded teaching facilities and office accommodation for support staff. When selecting seating for the scheme, landscape architects Barry Chinn Associates truly embraced the modular concept of RailRoad, so much so that the setting out of the perimeter planting beds was dictated by the seating sizes. Three separate seats were supplied, each comprising different radii modules that introduce a refreshing informality to the courtyard. The seating is further enhanced by the addition and informal placement of backrests, armrests and tablet surfaces.

The Excelsior Building is a new addition to the impressive Haberdashers’ Aske’s School campus in Borehamwood. The courtyard comprises planted beds, with social spaces and pathways in a mix of resin-bound gravels and synthetic grass surfaces. To allow pupils to enjoy this new outdoor space a seating system was required that was sufficiently flexible, and RailRoad was the ideal choice. Over 60 linear metres of the Delta version from the RailRoad range was supplied, creating 4 long curvi-linear seating runs and also some shorter independent straight units, together with purpose-made steel planters.

The collaboration has delivered an exceptional scheme which maximises the elevated views from the spectacular ridge-top site.

Junction 17 is a 20 bed unit at Prestwich Hospital and offers a specialist adolescent mental health service for young people who require assessment and treatment for a range of complex mental health difficulties. Junction 17 provides a wide range of services both in the community and within a state of the art inpatient unit.
Whilst trying to create a safe environment the Trust worked hard to design a stylish and colourful interior. Striking colours including Jazzberry and Aurora were selected from the Equinox Stripe and Tones ranges to create this co-ordinating, inspiring and welcoming setting.

Tottenham Hotspur Football Club

An extensive hard landscape setting for the new Tottenham Hotspur Football Club stadium. The large 11,000 m2 paved area has been constructed in a combination of granite and concrete block paving units. Although the area is mainly pedestrian the brief required that the units be completely and permanently bonded into position. This was achieved using Steintec tuffbond in combination with tuffbed 2-pack Type 35 bedding mortar to achieve a minimum 2MPa adhesion between the paving units and the supporting layers. Steintec tufftop Type 40 jointing mortar was used to complete the installation.
IKO Spectraplan - Waitrose Roof refurbishment treads lightly on environment

The roof to a Waitrose distribution centre has been completely refurbished in a single ply membrane system chosen for its sustainable credentials and no disruption to the retailer’s 24/7 operations at Aylesford near Maidstone, Kent.
Supplied by SIG Design and Technology, 10,200m2 of IKO’s Spectraplan single ply membrane was specified for its ability to contribute to a BREEAM Very Good rating for the project which is in line with Waitrose’s mission to ‘tread lightly on the environment’.

The purpose of this development is making the re-cladding of an existing building removing Aluminium Composite Material insulation and cement particle board and replacement with new 3mm aluminium cladding and associated works. The new building will include a mixed tenure unit of 138 one, two and three bed apartments. It’s design was developed by the PRP Architects. Its design was developed by the PRP Architects.
In order to protect the façade building from moisture, driving rain and wind the solution Effisus A2 Fire Rated Breather FR System was applied, using an A1 Fire Rated Breather FR Membrane.
