Canning Town

The Safety Letterbox Company

THE PROJECTAt The Safety Letterbox Company, we can manufacture a complete mailbox arrangement to house within the aluminium surrounds and replace a glazed screen. Panel boxes have a simple letterflap to the front face and house the mailboxes to the rear allowing the tenants ease of retrieving their mail and ensuring maximum security for the building. This arrangement complies with the Secured by Design Guidelines (Secured by Design Homes 2016 Guidelines) of eliminating the need for access into a building, even from the postman. It also is a neat solution to house the door entry system within the panel – keeping all relevant products in one area, adjacent to the door, in a neat and attractive solution. The comprehensive door entry and mailbox solution developed for the Canning Town project contained subtle mailboxes that blended in to the outside panel along with security options that granted access to the building to individuals with the correct code. The door entry system contains a video camera to identify who is outside of the building, a key fob scanning point and a room call function.

Zaun Limited

The city’s reputation assured under the spotlight of billions of viewersThe ChallengeCommonwealth Games hosts welcomed almost 5,000 athletes from 71 competing nations to the 20th Games at Glasgow 2014. They were the players on the stage across 18 sports, with the action broadcast to an estimated global audience of one and a half billion. For a fortnight of summer 2014, the eyes of the world were trained on Glasgow, so organisers had to deliver impeccable security to protect competitors, spectators, volunteers and dignitaries alike to preserve and enhance the city’s global image. The SolutionOrganisers awarded the prestigious contract as the Protective Perimeter Security provider to Selex ES, the Finmeccanica subsidiary, who turned to the largest supplier of perimeter fencing protection to the London 2012 Olympics.Selex ES handed almost £4 million of contracts to integrated high-security perimeter event overlay specialist Zaun to design, manufacture, install and decommission a broad vista of temporary high-security fencing systems across Glasgow 2014 sites.Together, they provided a wide range of physical security measures to secure over 20 Games venues at Glasgow 2014, including the Commonwealth Games Village for athletes and other Tier One venues such as the iconic Celtic Park, which was used for the opening ceremony, and Hampden Park, where the games officially closed.Zaun supplied several thousand metres of its MultiFence and award-winning RDS systems at heights of 3m and 2.4m, with sections fitted with Hostile Vehicle Mitigation (HVM) enhancements.Zaun also installed hundreds of vehicle and pedestrian gates and CCTV columns incorporated into the fencing.

Ultimate Rose - Honey House Overhaul

Ultimate Rose - Honey House Overhaul

Roseview Windows

This Edwardian home was transformed inside and out in 2021. Part of the renovation included changing the original single glazed, draughty timber sash windows. The sashes were previously painted shut to minimise heat loss, but this was proving both inconvenient and ineffective. The homeowners wanted to find replacement windows that were indistinguishable from their original timbers but in a low maintenance form that offered significantly better security and thermal efficiency. Having spent months looking around for the right solution, the homeowners found Roseview and, specifically, Ultimate Rose. Being the most authentic window on the timber-alternative market, they would match their original timber sashes like for like but with this maintenance free alternative. The windows were finished in a chalk white texture with an Edwardian astragal bar design, seamless run-through horns, deep cills, Secure by Design accreditation and shark fin limit stops throughout. Additionally, Ultimate Rose comes with ‘A’ rated energy efficiency as standard. For the homeowners, this means lower heating bills month-to-month and a reduced carbon footprint. This is due to Roseview sash windows being double-glazed and fully weather-sealed, unlike the home’s original timber windows. As a result, the homeowners now have sash windows that never need repainting and will naturally keep their home insulated and secure without sacrificing authenticity.

Incarnation Secondary Glazing - Brunel House

Roseview Windows

Brunel House is a listed building being converted into luxury apartments. Replacing the primary windows was not permitted, so our client needed to look at a different solution to gain the thermal performance required. The windows were large sashes, requiring heavy duty frames with tilt facility, providing simple access to the primary windows for cleaning and maintenance. An unusual and bespoke feature of this project was - at the architect’s request - trickle vents installed in the bottom of the secondary glazing track. The end result is that, without any visible sign of works “Replacing the primary windows was not permitted” being done, tenants would experience comfort levels that match modern day double glazing, even though their windows are over 100 years old.

CLD Physical Security Systems

Back in 2019, the William's Group opened the doors to their brand-new flagship automotive retail store based in Trafford City. The store was set to home luxury brands such as MINI, BMW, Land Rover and Jaguar all within one compound. This meant they needed an effective perimeter security system that would hold up against intruders onto the site and also added protection around the showrooms that would house these luxury cars. For the entire perimeter protection, they selected the Eclipse-60 V Mesh Profiled Fencing to deter vandals and intruders, whilst opting for the Securus-Lite SR1 358 Fencing to encompass the showrooms for that additional level of security they required. The Williams Group also chose the SlideMaster Sliding Gate as the perfect match for their ingress and egress security.

MEDIA CENTRE GETS GOLD MEDAL SECURITY

MEDIA CENTRE GETS GOLD MEDAL SECURITY

Zaun Limited

Olympics organisers accredited 21,000 media and broadcasters to report on the greatest show on earth. They were crafting the story beamed to the estimated global audience of almost five billion tuned in to London 2012.Quite apart from keeping them safe and secure, any hint of a breach of security would have been latched upon, sending negative tales of London far and wide and damaging the city’s image and the nation’s tourist industry for years. The SolutionThe London Olympics Media Centre (LOMC) was designed by architects Allies and Morrison. It is 900,000 sq ft and 275m long and cost £355 million to build on the former Hackney Wick Stadium close to the Riverbank Arena. The main contractor Carillion asked Zaun to design, manufacture and install the 1.5km of HiSec and MultiFence security fencing with the same Super6 panels as the Olympic Park perimeter. The two high-security fencing systems use a close mesh of 6mm steel vertical wires near impossible to scale and very hard to cut through except with power tools. The fencing incorporated vehicle and pedestrian access points, as well as detection systems and CCTV. The Olympic Delivery Authority planned to create a high-security complex of business space that would form part of the legacy to the Games, recouping much of the public investment in the construction. The LOMC was part of Zaun’s Olympics contract, its largest ever, which included work on the perimeters to the Olympic Park and Stadium and temporary installations at venues across the country, all completed on time and within budget.

INNOVATIVE HIGH SECURITY PRIVACY LOUVRE SYSTEM

INNOVATIVE HIGH SECURITY PRIVACY LOUVRE SYSTEM

Zaun Limited

When a significant UK security site needed a complete upgrade to its perimeter fencing, Zaun stepped in with a cost-effective and highly secure solution. The task aheadDue to the compassionate nature of the site, guarding against the physical threat and providing a visual screen was important. Therefore, the perimeter had to meet the high standards of the Centre for Protection of National Infrastructure [CPNI] and be capable of housing Perimeter Intrusion Detection Systems [PIDS] – a sensor mounted on the fence. As there was no current security fencing system that includes a visual block approved by CPNI, it was thought that two fences were required. One of these fences would provide high-security protection and the other a screen from prying eyes.Installing an additional conventional louvre screen would have been expensive and taken up too much room, so Zaun’s development team came up with a solution to address both of these issues. The Patent Pending system uses horizontal louvres that cleverly link into the mesh; this keeps cost and size down as the mesh itself becomes part of the louvre system. The furthermore, them grabs the wires as it is installed to ensure a tight fit, thus preventing rattles that might interfere with the acoustic PIDS system. This clever design saves costs and space. In addition, the product can be configured to provide varying degrees of screening. What Was SuppliedCPNI approved HiSec Super 6 high-security fencing system is designed for sensitive, high-profile sites. The vertical wires are 6mm in diameter with 76.2mm x 12.7mm spacings, enhancing a standard 358 system.Louvre privacy screens are easily attached to the robust fencing eliminating the need for two sets of fencing. Manufactured from 2mm thick steel sheets, which are folded to form the louvre. The galvanised sheets cleverly grab onto the mesh as they are installed, improving privacy and making the 358 mesh more rigid. This whole private and secure fencing system can also have PIDS easily attached. These mounted detection systems give early warning to any attempts of intrusion, whether penetration or climbing. It offers discreet monitoring and early warning and can be fitted on existing fencing units.

ROYAL ARTILLERY BARRACKS SECURED

ROYAL ARTILLERY BARRACKS SECURED

Zaun Limited

The Royal Artillery Barracks in Woolwich made for a stunning venue for the London 2012 shooting competitions. But organisers knew that the ease of access and the number of roads in the area rendered the temporary shooting ranges and grandstands potentially vulnerable.Given the arsenal within, they needed a temporary perimeter that would remain intact even under deliberate attack by vehicles or people – and yet that could be removed once the Games were over with no damage to the 18th-century site. The SolutionZaun developed a mobile high-security fence with Hostile Vehicle Mitigation (HVM), especially for the London 2012 Olympics, mounting its PAS 68 Multi- Fence® into concrete blocks to resist attack by 7.5-tonne vehicles driven straight at it at 40mph.Zaun installed 2km of MultiFence and access gates around the Royal Artillery Barracks site and added HVM enhancements, detection systems and CCTV to secure the entire venue.Multi-Fence uses anti-climb mesh fencing and is available up to 5m high. The fence posts are mounted in concrete blocks that can follow a curve or go from a flat surface to an incline with ease due to an ingenious bolting method. It is one of the world’s first temporary solutions to achieve PAS68: 2010 V7500(N2) 64/90:5.0/0.0. It is manufactured to the BS EN 1317 Part 2 (vehicle restraint systems) and is approved by the Highways Agency. It is ideal for supporting crowd control at key events or for permanent installations at airports, freight terminals and ports, as no below-ground foundations are required, and they can be used on soft and hard standing.

Customers set up their profile and use the map feature to find, select and navigate to their desired unit. On arrival, users can then start a booking and unlock the unit directly from their smartphone. The app momentarily disengages the locking mechanism using Bluetooth connectivity, enabling the user to turn the latch and open the unit. They can then secure their bike in their allocated space (shown in the app), close and lock the unit.Users can also monitor the cost of their booking within the app, with a countdown timer showing when a booking will move into the next price tier.Pricing can be set according to the requirements of a client, including limited free access. When retrieving their bike, users simply repeat the opening process using the app, unlock and remove their bike and end the booking. Their account is then charged accordingly.Users can add credit to their account and check previous bookings, all through the app.Glasgow city centre – a case studyEarlier this year, Cyclehoop won a tender to bring a secure, short term cycle parking solution to Glasgow city centre. Funded by the Sustrans ‘Places for Everyone‘ initiative, it forms part of Glasgow City Council’s Avenues Project. The project identified twenty locations around the city, with predicted high demand – near offices, shopping areas and social destinations. An initial phase of 12 Bikehangars was installed ahead of the UCI World Championships. With the event celebrating all things cycling, the UCI sponsored the first 12 units and they were decorated with the iconic rainbow jersey stripes.A second phase was installed in September bringing the full roster to 20 units (19 Bikehangars and one Cargo Bikehangar).Following a one-month trial, the service launched on September 28th, and has seen a healthy uptake with an average of 50 customers downloading the app each week. The benefits of going digitalWhilst Cyclehoop Trips offers destination cycle parking through the app, the technology can also be applied to residential cycle parking. ‘Cyclehoop Home’ is the second phase of the project which will integrate residential cycle parking subscription management, for a complete end-to-end cycle parking solution. This will offer a range of benefits for local authorities, housing associations and facilities managers:No key management – holding, distributing and processing key returns takes a large amount of time and space. No keys, no key management required!Remote access management – the ability to immediately grant and revoke access through the application management console streamlines the process and removes the impact of lost keys.Flexible terms – many Cyclehoop Rentals customers request shorter term contracts to match the duration of their stay at an address. Cyclehoop Home makes this possible.Self-service account management – automating some of the service will allow customers to manage their own accounts. This will require less support from a customer service team.Collecting usage data – understanding cyclist’s behavior is essential when planning new infrastructure. This app allows us to see popular destinations, the times that people are accessing units and once Trips and Home are integrated, will be able to show popular routes. This information would be invaluable to any council assessing future needs. What are the possibilities?Encouraging more people to cycle is essential to improving the country’s health, reducing the strain on existing infrastructure and reducing reliance on cars. By offering secure parking facilities at both ends of the cycle journey, a great many more people can choose cycling as their everyday mobility choice, safe in the knowledge that their bike will be there when they return.
