A man with a prosthetic limb faced difficulties in his small, impractical bathroom after a leg injury. Collaborating with an Occupational Therapist, Care Spaces redesigned the space, ensuring approval from both the therapist and the user. They revamped the bathroom into a functional wet room, addressing accessibility issues. Key features included a level-access shower, shower seat, non-slip flooring, safety grab rails, an accessible toilet, and basin. The transformed space now meets the user's needs, enabling independent living. Notably, the adaptation benefits the user's son, who has a disability, ensuring a lasting solution for the family.

This Grade II listed building was first opened in 1858 by Mayor Mackie of Manchester as part of the Smithfield fresh produce market but it remained empty and neglected for years until recently restored to its’ former glory. In addition to the large seating area in the main restaurant hall, a rear external annex was created with a glass roof in keeping with the building’s semi-industrial heritage. Bolton Gate Company were commissioned to design, manufacture and install collapsible gates with special removable bottom tracks to accommodate the sloping floor level to seal off this area when outside trading hours.

When The Oval cricket ground recently underwent a major extension, Bostik was on hand to provide subfloor preparation products and technical advice to ensure the flooring couldbe installed to the highest possible standard in time fora high-profile event.The iconic south-London venue is home to Surrey County Cricket Club and frequently hosts international matches and tournaments. The Oval was seeking to add two new upper-tier decks that would increase its capacity by 4,000 seats, as well as a new hospitality area including lounges, a roof terrace,a retail space, a new ticket office and more.

Quick and easy dry-build Anchor Diamond blocks were used to form 300Lm of low-height landscape retaining walls and interesting seating areas for cross-shaped cuttings through a large grassy mound. The mound creates a striking landscape feature and focal point in front of the college and was formed using the large surplus of spoil generated during the demolition works. Over 3,000SQM of Boulevard paving was also selected to give a clean crisp contemporary feel to the hard landscaping areas with the associated cost benefits of concrete blocks and the production quality consistency needed for the phased construction.

The new Centre for Immersive Storytelling at the Royal Holloway University of London has been designed to provide education in virtual and augmented reality technologies. This modern building stands adjacent to the University’s signature gothic Founder’s Building, providing a conflicting mixture of architectural design styles. The external social areas were brought to life with 14 Plateau Picnic Tables, creating a vibrant space suitable for studying and socialising, with the connected benches seating up to 12 people. The High-Pressure Laminate (HPL) picnic tables are both attractive and durable for outdoor use, ideal for busy and energetic students.

Baltic Triangle in Liverpool is part of a £100m development scheme, combining 308 individual apartments, gym, communal meeting areas, commercial floor space, receptions as well as parking and an external picnic area. The buildings are a stone's throw away from the famous World Heritage Site, Royal Albert Dock. The brief for the external picnic area was to design seating and tables to reflect Liverpool’s industrial heritage. Artform recommended the Spencer Litter Bin and the Pic-Nic Table & Bench for their contemporary finish in corten steel. The table and bench ends incorporated bespoke laser cutting elements into the design.

This SieMatic S2 kitchen sits in a recently remodelled contemporary home. The large extension gives an abundance of light to the open plan living area whilst the kitchen occupies part of the original structure. Using a mixture of graphite grey high gloss and titan pine laminate cabinets, Glacier White Corian work surfaces help to balance the darker area with the new bright living space. The result is a surprisingly light and airy kitchen set around a large, dominant central island with seating on one side. The use of Miele appliances and a downdraft extractor finishes off this room well.

The meticulous refurbishment of this Grade II Listed landmark provides a stunning range of luxuriously specified apartments. Phase 2 of this project included the installation of FSC certified Hardwood decks to create a series of private roof terraces adjoining the larger apartments. This project was particularly challenging due to the many curved corten steel planters, upstands, steps and seating areas but using the Buzon PB pedestal range to support the decking our installation team achieved seamless surfaces across all the terrace areas. The finished private roof terraces provide residents with the perfect outdoor space.

ASF worked with artist Bernadette Hughes to develop these spectacular products. Highly decorative laser profiled panels were used to make seats, litter bins and signage. The detailed profiles themselves were manufactured in stainless steel plate and then powder coated, to retain the intricate laser cut details that would be lost is the sheets were galvanised after cutting. The outer shapes were then profiled from heavy duty mild steel sheet that was galvanised, and the two sheets mounted cheek by cheek with invisible fixings. The result isa highly visible design that is decorative, strong and has zero finger traps.

Ghelamco Arena CHALLENGE Ghent’s football club, KAA Gent, had big ambitions – having a big stadium was one of them. Its brand new home was built in order to seat more spectators and take the club to the top of the Belgian league. As the first newly-built stadium in Belgium since 1974, the multi-use Ghelamco Arena opened its doors in 2013. The stadium hosts - besides KAA Gent matches - a multitude of events throughout the year, as well a gym, supermarket, office facilities and a Guide Michelin restaurant. It’s located near the historical centre of Ghent, just outside the city. The arena, which seats 20,000 supporters, is one of Europe’s most modern stadiums. A stadium specifically designed for the ultimate football experience! How could RENOLIT help make the new stadium a success?SOLUTION The Ghelamco Arena is a real eye-catcher: impressive, fashionable in design and an architectural beauty. The stadium, however, is more than just design, it is above all environmentally friendly. The stadium was constructed with considerations towards its ecological footprint and as a result, the roof was made waterproof by means of the ecological, reflective RENOLIT ALKORBRIGHT waterproofing membrane. This completely white roofing membrane, together with the special protective coating on top of the membrane ensures a high reflection of the sunlight, which in summertime has a positive impact on the climate inside the building. With an initial reflection of 90%, the RENOLIT ALKORBRIGHT concept can consider itself to be at the absolute top of the “cool roof” roofing membranes. 

Located in the heart of tourist London, St James’s Park Café occupies a prime spot overlooking Duck Island and St James’s Lake. The curved wooden building features a sweeping 200-seat roof terrace and floor to ceiling glass windows where diners can while away an hour or two admiring the infamous pelicans and black swans of St James’s Park. With 5 million visitors to the park each year, café operators, Benugo, have quite a challenge maintaining service and facilities. On this fast turnaround project we worked closely with Apteriors; Interior Design and Furniture Specialists and McLaren Construction to manufacture and supply outdoor concrete furniture for new multipurpose recreation and study area for New Regent’s College in London. Living Concrete supplied 4 large Let’s Dine Concrete Tables and 12 concrete cube seats with oak cladding which were assembled on site and finished with a specialist sealant. The new site comprises a 20-cell custody suite and a three-storey office building, which accommodates more than 300 officers and staff and provides both Northamptonshire Police and Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service, which shares the office building, with modern, 21st century facilities. Marshalls provided a range of products from the Landscape Protection portfolio for the exterior space, including Geo bollards, Geo seating, a Pluto cycle shelter and bespoke concrete planters. Due to the security required around this sensitive building it was important that the items of furniture specified had the required protection against potential accidental or criminal damage ...

RESOPAL'S HPL Essential Wall 3562-RM was selected by RDA's team of design experts for table areas because of its realistic stone-effect look, reflecting the urban-industrial theme perfectly and dovetailing with other unique interior features including exposed brick and aged leather seating. The RM laminate texture, with its graining and pores, actually feels like the genuine material, whilst combining the benefits of durability and hygiene. BUILT Custom Burgers is the 'fast casual' version of the award nominated 'The Counter' in Glasgow, serving popular 'Build Your Own' burgers in a cutting edge urban-industrial interior.

One Tower Bridge is a mixed-use development by Berkeley Homes. A total of nine blocks make up the development, containing 396 residential units, commercial and cultural spaces, a single storey basement area and a 20 storey residential tower block with roof top area. Buzon UK were commissioned by Maylim to supply DPH5 and BC5 adjustable pedestals, which were used across the entire project to support numerous decking areas, fencing, step and riser units and a wide range of bespoke seating. The random shaped pavers required a complex spacer tab layout, achieved effortlessly with the unique BC System.

Station Square Parade is a 2018 residential development right next to Colchester train station. Originally a large office building, it has now been converted into 67 luxury apartments with private balconies all set around an internal private courtyard. Alfresco Floors supplied and installed a mixture of 600×600 and 400×1200 Rowe, Moroto and Umer 20mm thick slip-resistant porcelain tiles to create a raised seating area and private balconies for all the top floor apartments. The design, supply and installation contract totalled nearly 500 Sqm of external porcelain paving and a small area of artificial grass.

Welcoming the building users the creatively versatile SAS740 has been installed in the reception area. For the 120-seat lecture theatre, the architects had envisioned a feature ceiling with an angled effect. SAS200 panels were designed at a 16-degree angle to create an angular effect, accomplishing the he architect’s design intent. The offerings on the ground floor also includes a seminar space. For this SAS specified the visually engaging SAS500 baffles which offers enhanced acoustic performance due to double faced panels. In completion, SAS also supplied SAS600 rafts to this purpose-built hub which connects business and academia.

A unique and distinct project delivered by Helo within a tight timescale. The old garage building was completely refurbished to create spa treatment rooms on the first floor and a health suite and ‘Pay-for-Play’ rooms on the ground floor. Outside a ‘secret garden’ was also created. Helo provided an Aroma steam room, Salt inhalation room with Himalayan salt blocks, automated Rasul /mud room with Carrara marble seats, Hammam wet massage room, Dry Float, Log burning outdoor sauna, Outdoor metal tub heated spa, Indoor wooden hot spa tub, warm tub and cool plunge tub.

The Television Centre transforms the existing BBC Television centre into a mixed-use development that combines office/studio space for the BBC, entertainment and leisure facilities, housing, a hotel and office space, alongside public open spaces. Working with Gillespies and Maylim, we were commissioned to supply and install Cumaru benches and seating areas with bespoke metal work including hand rails and arm rests (designed by our in-house team) to the refurbished Helios Plaza area. In the famous external forecourt, perfectly spaced FSC Cumaru cladded doors were installed to the services/access and general storage area, for a seamless look.

Helo delivers stunning steam room for prestigious client working with top London based designer, Robin Moore Ede. Spectacular design and innovative technology come together to create the ultimate in relaxation and luxury. Helo were invited to create a bespoke steam suite with Turkish Room and relaxation area joined by two shower towers. An open effect between rooms was achieved with a minimal glass partition. Robin Moore Ede’s intriguing mix of bespoke mosaic sea frieze and honed marble seating with subtle down lighting to the floor created a steam room which offers the ultimate in comfort and visual impact!

Ultrascape's BS 7533 compliant mortar paving system has been used to deliver a modern and stylish forecourt outside Swindon railway station. The redevelopment has transformed what was previously a heavy traffic dominated area, into a prestigious pedestrian focused arrival space which features seating, planting, lighting and a millennium clock. Work was carried out by specialist civil engineering contractor, Britannia Construction and included the installation of 500 tonnes of high quality natural granite and Pennant Sandstone using Ultrascape's Pro-Bed HS fine bedding concrete, Flowpoint rapid setting grout and Pro-Prime slurry primer.

St Paul's Cathedral is Sir Christopher Wren's masterpiece, built in glowing Portland Stone, crowned by the magnificent dome, a famous landmark on the skyline of the City of London.This programme saw St Paul’s repaired and cleaned inside and out, with greatly improved provision for those with disabilities and an enhanced visitor experience through the provision of new exhibition and interpretation galleries.Here at Albion Stone we regularly supply Portland stone to the Masons at St Paul’s Cathedral for maintenance and repairs. We supplied Portland Jordans Basebed and Whitbed for the South Churchyard Improvements. The stone has been used to create seating areas that reinforce the other side of the medieval cloister walk.

Ross-on-Wye’s skyline has formed the inspiration for new community facilities at a residential development.The iconic St Mary’s Church spire is reflected in the play area and recreation space created by Hand Made Places for families of St Mary’s Garden Village.The secure play area is surrounded by timber picket fencing and accessed via a bespoke arch double leaf gateway.The planed and sanded softwood arch is engraved to read St Mary’s Garden Village.Four further bespoke archways make up a fun walkway leading to a custom-built version of our Milton Play Unit.The play tower features a slide, rockhold ramp, ladder wall and stepped platform with a church-style spire to one end.A Hawkley Adventure Trail, Swing Steps and Bird’s Nest climbing frame are available for older children.And no play area is complete without the swings, with a Double Cradle Swing installed for little ones as well as a Nest Swing.A Star Stage brings role play to life for little ones, with timber Modular Radius Seating, including a bench engraved with the location, also available. Our cute little Hedgehog Animal Face is watching over everyone. Our installers laid a Bound Rubber Mulch safety surface in neutral green and brown colours.In addition to the play area installation, our parent company Broxap Street Furniture manufactured and supplied six Harrogate Senior Cycle Stands for community use. Four cast iron Blackburn Seats, finished with hardwood slats and a black frame, were provided along with a Derby Standard litter bin.

Innovative garden refurbBuilder Ian Gray embarked on a major garden refurbishment to build a skate park and BBQ garden room at his own family home in Fareham, Hampshire.Having never worked with Lindab Rainline before Ian selected a plain galvanised system to complement the stylish design of the timber building. A key feature of the building is a truncated hipped shape roof with a raised gutter which provides shelter for the entrance to a covered seating area. Ian said, “we did this build as an on site example of what we can do and have taken orders for 5 so far”, “Rainline was very nice to work with”, adding “Thanks to Lindab for such a great product and service”.

Scarborough Sports Village includes Prospec Marathon Classic range throughout, with cantilevered and double island bench seating in matching solid grade laminate. Prospec Marathon wet lockers, which include an aluminium carcass for wet areas, are a mixture of 1, 2, 3, and 4 tiers, and feature our new £1 coin return lock. Other products included within our installation would be our Marathon Classic fully framed cubicles, postformed solid grade laminate vanity units and grooming shelves, and floor to ceiling IPS (duct panel systems). Designed by Grafton Architects, Town House is a mixed-use teaching facility at Kingston University. The interior is arranged around a series of interlocking, open plan spaces, where Junckers’ solid hardwood flooring features as part of limited materials palette. Junckers’ 140mm Textured Nordic Oak Classic flooring clads the treads and risers of the imposing staircase in the triple height courtyard, as well as providing a hard-wearing floor surface for seating areas. Junckers’ oak flooring promotes a healthy indoor climate. All-natural, solid hardwood is free of chemical substances which adversely affect indoor air quality. Junckers has completed EPDs for all its floors to aid specification for sustainable and net zero carbon projects. 

The Pyramids Centre in Portsmouth has had a new lease of life with a £2.5m makeover. The ageing facility is now a modern leisure complex offering a fun attraction to the local families. The new facilities include a state-of-the-art gym, trampoline, and soft play park.Helmsman was sub-contracted to supply the lockers and cubicles package providing a turnkey solution to create a modern and sharp changing room area with a comfortable feel.For the Pyramids Centre leisure project we manufactured, delivered, and installed modern laminate lockers of 3 and 5 doors. They are heavy duty and suitable for a wet environment. A row of three-compartment lockers have an integrated cantilever seat stand matching the Abet Walnut (616) laminate lockers and cubicles. The integrated seat stand on these lockers is a great space-saving solution and is perfect for this area.The front line cubicle range fitted the requirements for the toilet and shower cubicles, installed alongside the lockers. The Walnut laminate runs throughout these changing rooms as one of the dominant colours. The cubicle partitions are in Abet Light Grey (478) to separate each cubicle and bring light into the space to complement the rest of the interior.The vanity units and timber integrated plumbing system (IPS) panels are also manufactured from the matching laminate. The IPS in the toilet cubicles are the same colour as the partitions, giving a natural flow throughout. The wall to floor benches and free-standing benches are in Walnut laminate colour as laminate slats are perfect and protected in the wet areas.Most importantly Helmsman has a dedicated and experienced in-house design team supported by its on-site factory. Junckers solid hardwood flooring has been installed at The New Library, Magdalene College, Cambridge, an award- winning new building by Niall McLaughlin Architects. An interior of cross-laminated timber and hardwood create a welcoming and modern study environment with interconnecting rooms and spaces. The New Library at one of University of Cambridge’s oldest colleges provides a wide variety of resources, both print and digital, including books, journals, and reference works. There are more than 90 study spaces across three floors with a mix of individual desks, comfortable seating, and window seats. The long-length Junckers’ 20.5mm Oak Boulevard Harmony plank flooring provides a warm and elegant backdrop, complementing the use of timber throughout the building. A series of brick columns echo the gabled buildings typical of the College’s architecture and carefully considered windows and roof lights provide plenty of natural light making the library a comfortable and inspiring place to study and work. A solid hardwood floor from Junckers has a crevice-free surface which cannot harbour dust or mites. It is easy to keep clean and contributes to a healthy indoor climate, one of the RIBA’s targets in its 2030 Climate Challenge for architects. Junckers floors carry the Danish Indoor Climate label, recognised by BREEAM, and have undergone extensive degassing and odour testing to ensure no harmful gasses are released into the room. Installing timber in an interior helps minimise static from electrical appliances and helps maintain an even temperature, an important consideration for a well-used library. The New Library by Niall McLaughlin has won several awards including the Wood Awards Gold Award 2021, the Civic Trust Award 2022, and a RIBA East Regional Award 2022. The Times newspaper named The New Library one of the coolest new buildings of the year (2021). 

The development of a new emergency care centre at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead was an investment of £32m. The project provided state-of- the-art healthcare services to people across the region. The centre now provides a smoother service to its patients and a more efficient way of treating people.Artform Urban Furniture were asked to provide seating and litter bins to the main entrance of the hospital's drop in centre, as well as the car park and the taxi drop off / pick up point. The products had to complement the soft landscaping whilst also being durable enough to cope with the extensive usage. The Artform team proposed items from the Multiplicity range, with their cast anodised aluminium frames, offering superb longevity and minimal maintenance requirements.The overall project was constructed within a tight budget and the street furniture supplied by Artform needed to be of a very high standard, ergonomically designed for comfort and all delivered within the economic constraints.The products also had to be on site and installed within a short time frame, due to the fast track nature of the project. The Artform team provided full technical drawings and specification information to ensure that the client’s facilities team were supported fully and the installation process was seamless.OutcomeThe completed emergency care centre is now a busy hub for all types of emergency healthcare services and the entrance provides a clean and welcoming first impression to all those using the centre. The landscaped outdoor areas including the entrance, the car park and the busy taxi point, offer an engaging space, for use by staff, patients and visitors alike, with the thoughtful distribution of attractive seating and clean, modern litter bins.Ian Renwick, chief executive of QE Gateshead commented: "This is a unique hospital building and the environment for patients and visitors is really something special."

Designed using sustainably sourced timbers, the floating pavilion gives diners at Hawksmoor a place to eat and drink outdoors, while creating a distinctive new social space that connects people closely to the water. Furnitubes were commissioned by Glenn Howells Architects to provide landscaping features to the floating pavilions.Nine bespoke timber loungers made from our triple-processed steel with sustainable cumara timbers that were designed and placed horizontally to match the pavilion decking, making for a striking contrast. The pavilion seating is completed by several bespoke high beam benches with underseat lighting. Other features included steel housing to the life buoys and planters with coordinating timber cladding.The pavilion not only creates a welcoming and luxurious space, but also a popular photo backdrop particularly during the summer months.

New rehabilitation centre for the nation’s most severely injured military personnel.We were pleased to deliver the full FF&E fit-out including wall protection, blinds and cubicles as well as all the fitted furniture. The project involved restoration of a Grade II listed Hall, plus over 37,000m2 of new-build. The centre has impressive clinical rehabilitation facilities, including hydrotherapy pools, complex trauma wards, prosthetics and gait analysis facilities, plus Europe’s first multi-sensory CAREN 3D simulator.

Custom 3D Gustafs walls were designed and created especially for the Weir Group HQ at 1 West Regent Street in Glasgow.The two 35m long feature walls on both the 9th and 10th floors of the building are constructed of bespoke 3D facetted panels with integrated doorways, seating, and a reception desk.Gustafs panels were specified for their A2-s1,d0 resistance to fire, retaining their structure and producing minimal smoke and spread of flame. Gustafs' 100 year history of carpentry and working with wood enabled them to create the 3D wall to the exact specifications of the architect to be installed perfectly by Giotto.LSA Projects also supplied standard flat acoustic ceiling panels and linear ribs to the scheme to give acoustic control in the open plan meeting room area.
