Ronacrete was called to a site meeting at The Brunswick Centre in February 2017 to discuss detailing of Ronafix floating screeds laid to falls where the required balustrade heights on the podium decks restricted the minimum screed thickness. It was agreed that a minimum screed thickness of 35mm could be applied if plant and materials were only positioned on thicker sections of screed until after granite paving had been laid, to ensure that heavy point loads did not cause deformation of the insulation boards.

The Berkeley Groups' stunning London apartments required the installation of wetroom & waterproofing solutions into 188 wetrooms, suitable for a screeded floor construction. Linear Wall Drains with Stone-Infill Grills were specified into the apartments and penthouses. A high build latex system incorporating insulation boards and HBL-50 levelling compound was installed to the desired depth of 22mm from finished screed level, before the installation of Linear Screed Decs. Linear wall Drains & Stone Infill Grills of varying lengths were installed against the shower walls prior to waterproofing with RIW Tilesafe on the floors and RIW FWM on the walls.

CCL Wetrooms Installation team were approached by Octagon Developments to supply and install wetroom systems and waterproofing solutions into the master bathroom, gym and three guest en-suites at their luxury house in Virginia Water. Linear Screed Drains were recommended for installation into each of the wet areas, capable of coping with flow rates of up to 29 L/min. Falls were created within the screed before the Linear Screed Drains and solid linear floor & wall grills were installed into the required position within each bathroom. RIW Tilesafe & FWM were used to fully waterproof the wetrooms.

Sherwn-Williams demonstrated what technical assistance can be provided on projects before any quotations or specifications are organised. A low viscosity primer Resutop Binder was recommended as a penetrating primer to case harden and consolidate the screed. Epoxy screed repairs were installed where required to make good any damaged areas. Once a sound substrate was established Resuprime MVT moisture tolerant primer was installed incorporating a fabric mesh over all joints and pitted areas to reduce any potential cracking of this substrate, followed by 9mm thick FasTop RS69 polyurtehane screed.

CCL Wetrooms were contacted by exclusive house developer Montrose Developments, to supply wetroom systems and install comprehensive waterproofing solutions into the master bedroom and guest en-suites at their development of three executive houses in Ascot. The systems needed to be suitable for use on screeded floors. Linear Wall Drains were installed into the en suites, which were then laid to falls. The shallow drain was ideal for the shallow screed depth. RIW Tilesafe and FWM waterproof membranes were then applied across the floor and walls of the shower areas.

Designers and specialist flooring contractors were tasked with specifying a system for this facility to provide a long term decorative flooring solution. Challenges on the project included the existing substrate requiring to be levelled as it was out of specification and no longer suitable for the intended pharmaceutical production processes. It was recommended that initially a pumped industrial sub base be applied prior to the surface finishes. A protein free flowable cementitous compound was used to level existing concrete substrates or make up to required levels and create a suitable profile. Typically laid from 7 - 50mm in one application, this provides a fast and economic way of refurbishing and levelling substrates.Once the surface had be regulated using the sub screed the surface was mechanically prepared by diamond grinding to provide a mechanical key, the surface was then primed using Resuprime MVT, which is a moisture tolerant liquid damp proof membrane.After priming the substrate with Resuprime MVT the main screed product Resuflor Q Screed was applied by a steel float and trowel at 5mm. Coloured quartz granules which are bound in a clear epoxy resin provide an aesthetically pleasing and decorative finish whilst providing high levels or durability and impact resistance.Hygienic coving was also required for this project. One of the benefits of Resuflor Q Screed is that it can be applied to form in situ coving detail which is seamless from floor to wall. This would enable the areas to be sterilised and easy to clean and ensure the high levels of cleanliness and hygiene required in this type of facility can be achieved.Once the Resuflor Q Screed is installed the surface is then grouted using Resuprime GC clear resin sealer. Finally a coat of Resupen WB Matt Clear was applied to give a contemporary matt finish. Resupen WB Matt also enhances the level of scratch and abrasion resistance to ensure that the system keeps attractive for longer.Resuflor Q Screed was applied to the main production areas, testing and laboratory facility and all the connecting corridor areas.The result was a hygienic and decorative surface installed with superb detail, enhancing the performance and aesthetics of this facility.

The luxurious apartments at Holland Green required the supply of wetroom drainage and waterproofing solutions into 134 bathrooms, suitable for use on a solid floor. CCL Wetrooms specified the installation of a Linear Screed Drain with a bespoke length Stone-Infill Grill into each shower area. The Linear Screed Drain was positioned flush against the shower wall and installed with either a single or double trap, capable of coping with flow rates of up to 56 l/min. To waterproof the floors and walls of the wetrooms, we recommended the installation of Tilesafe waterproofing membrane and Flexible Wall Membrane.

​​This project at Manchester Airport has now been completed by Monarch Resin Floors. The previous floor was a twenty year old tile and resin cementitious screed which was decaying and water damaged. Due to the level of decay and disrepair, the floor was dug out by a third party and re-concreted ready for the resin. Monarch installed 9mm thick FasTop TG69  polyurethane screed in 3 different colours to help the fire engines to see the tyre lines when they were reversing. White line marking was also installed.The total area was about 600m2 and included six bays and six fire tenders.

As part of the iconic Manchester Central Library's three-year overhaul to make its facilities more accessible, a bespoke flooring solution was supplied of Resuflor Terrazzo and Resuflor Screed to complete this refurbishment and give the buidling a great new appeal. The terrazzo provided a super smooth decorative floor and the epoxy screed incorporated fine aggregate on the surface to the stairs and ramped areas of the building to promote an anti-slip finish.The multi-million pound refurbishment project saw public entrances of the Grade ll listed building restored to their 1930's appearance. New staircases and lift shafts were inserted to improve access throughout the building.The brief on this project was to provide a modern functional flooring solution that complemented the library's unique neo-classical style.The besposke design of Resuflor Terrazzo was supplied in a special colour pallet to complement the neo-classical design features of the library. The system was chosen because of its seamless properties, ensuring a flat, continuous floor surface with extreme durability for a long term solution.The product was also used as a pre-cast terrazzo system on some central stair areas of the library.Resuflor Screed was supplied and applied on the ramped areas as a semi-decorative finish with a special aggregate bead incorporated for improved slip resistance.The end result was a functional floor capable of withstanding heavy footfall that fitted with the aesthetic requirements of the overall design superbly.

Technical representatives from F. Ball have provided flooring with a cost-effective alternative to completely removing and replacing a weakened screed as part of a flooring refurbishment at the Aberystwyth Arts Centre, part of Aberystwyth University. Upon removing old floorcoverings, flooring contractors were faced with an extremely rough screed with weak patches, possibly the result of poor installation or curing techniques, environmental factors or age, that was unsuitable for the application of subfloor preparation products and the installation of floorcoverings. Some weak sections were mechanically removed, leaving about 75mm thickness to be made up. A structural engineer confirmed that the concrete bases were, otherwise, structurally sound. New P5 chipboard was affixed to the wood subfloors with screws and glued at the joins. It is often necessary to completely remove and replace a weakened screed. However, F. Ball technical representatives called upon to conduct a site assessment were able to recommend a less costly and time-consuming solution to make the surface suitable to receive floorcoverings, including quickly raising the level of floors where sections had been mechanically prepared. Firstly, any remaining weak spots in the base would need to be removed by mechanical means along with any surface contaminants to create a clean, sound micro-textured finish. Any dust and debris should also be swept away. Moisture tests indicated subfloor relative humidity (RH) levels in the concrete subfloors were as high as 78%, meaning a moisture management solution would be required. Contractors therefore applied a single coat of Stopgap F77 solvent-free epoxy waterproof surface membrane over the entire area to obtain a continuous barrier against subfloor moisture. Flooring contractors then used Stopgap 600 Base deep section levelling compound to raise the level of floors where weak patches of screed had been removed.  It was also recommended that the chipboard over the raised access floors was checked to ensure that the surface was clean, secure and undamaged before applying a minimum thickness of 0.2mm of Stopgap Fill and Prime over the entire area.  The whole subfloor area was then capped with a layer of Stopgap 1200 Pro high performance levelling compound to create a perfectly smooth base for the receipt of new floorcoverings. The final phase of the refurbishment was to install Nora rubber sheet floorcoverings using Styccobond F48 PLUS.

The building was constructed using ICF blocks that are to have a rendered finish. Internally the ground floor is a concrete slab and the upper floor has timber posi-joists with the Lewis Deck and resilient strips laid above. 16mm underfloor heating pipes are then clipped into our new clip rail system with a free flowing screed then poured on top, 50mm thick. This then gives 20mm cover to the heating pipes, maximising the efficiency of the whole system.

CCL Wetrooms were contacted by Laing O'Rourke to design and supply drainage solutions for 193 wetrooms in their luxury development of apartments at Two Fifty One, Southwark Bridge Road. The wetrooms of similar sizes needed appropriate linear drainage for the shallow floor build up, that could also achieve a very short run off from the waste pipe to the stack. CCL Wetrooms specified Linear Screed Drains with solid grills into the apartments and penthouses, thanks to the drains' minimal height of only 67mm.

In 2013 IKO PLC were asked to investigate issues at the Four Square Estate, Southwark, in respect of the existing access walkways that were surfaced with Mastic Asphalt, by Keepmoat and Southwark Council. It was agreed that the Mastic Asphalt required replacing, along with screed repairs and new expansion joints. Work commenced in 2014 by Superior Roofing & Building Services Ltd and was completion by 2016. During the works some 1,400 tonne of IKO Permaphalt was installed along with IKO Permascreed. A 20 year guarantee was provided giving peace of mind and long term security for the sustainability of the system.

A Mapei system of flooring products has been specified as part of a major refurbishment at the Imperial War Museum. The historic museum is being sympathetically transformed to mark the centenary of the First World War. Mapei’s high performance cementitious flooring system, Ultratop, was chosen to complement the exhibits and provide low maintenance, coupled with resistance to heavy pedestrian traffic. Mapei’s flooring system was specified throughout a 5,000m2 floor area. The system combined Mapei Topcem rapid-drying screed, Primer SN and Ultratop - a technologically advanced self-smoothing cementitious floor in Anthracite.

The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is the third-largest football stadium in England and the largest club stadium in London. The entire construction cost exceeded £1 Billion. It is a multi-purpose stadium and features the world's first dividing, retractable football pitch, which reveals a synthetic turf field underneath for NFL London Games, concerts and other events.

The project involved the conversion of the 1st floor of the Grade II listed Princes Building in Newcastle’s Quay side area into 10 apartments. The building, which was designed by William Parnel, who was responsible for some of the best architecture in the City, was built back in 1863 and as such posed some interesting problems when it came to bringing the building up to current standards. The introduction of the Lewis Dovetailed Metal Deck and screed system on top of the existing joists provided the necessary performance for airborne and impact sound and fire separation.

This new-build house was in a remote location and off-grid for mains gas, the house was to be heated by a heat pump and so efficiency was a major consideration for the project. The Lewis Deck system was chosen for the 1st floor of the building to provide the same efficiencies for the underfloor heating as the concrete ground floor as well as providing a high level of acoustic separation for this quality timber frame project. The build-up included the Lewis flanking and resilient strips, Lewis Deck, Anhydrite liquid screed and underfloor heating pipes.

Built on a self-build development site at Graven Hill in Bicester, where every property is different, this house utilises a number of different design styles and is constructed from an ICF system called Durisol Blocks. The first floor is constructed using the Lewis Deck and includes sound separation, underfloor heating and wet-rooms. It is common for the 1st floor to see a liquid screed installed over the deck, however for this project the client just ordered a little additional of the concrete being poured down the walls to complete the floors.

Lewis Deck was chosen, on this particular project in London, for a number of the key benefits the system brings. These being the strength of the system with only needing a thin screed on top, the acoustic qualities & vibration control properties and the speed an ease of installation. This project even requested much longer sheets than standard in an effort to speed up the installation process even more. In fact you can see from the main photo above that some of the sheets were extremely long. The longest being just over 6.5m.

Wallbarn worked with a specialist tile installer, working on a new-build in Carmarthenshire. Initially 600mm deep concrete screed was used for a base, but the weight bent the lintels. The concrete had to be broken out and the whole deck repaired. The installation was challenging with falls over 250mm across the deck. ‘Balance’ self-levelling adjustable pedestals provided the answer. Using bespoke pedestal planning software, MegaPro, the Wallbarn service team was able to work out the exact quantity and height of pedestals required for the scheme, colour-coded on the drawing, guiding installers on where to place each pedestal.

The National Maritime Museum’s new £35m gallery has jewels which belonged to Sir Francis Drake, journals written by Captain Cook and items from the Titanic. A new rooftop restaurant looking out over Greenwich Park and the Royal Observatory has paved areas and landscaping, its limestone terrace having to withstand vehicles placing dynamic loads on the insulation without compression. With no space to lay a concrete screed to falls, architects Purcell Miller Tritton specified FOAMGLAS T4+slab insulation. The factory-machined, tapered material will not move or deflect under load and retains its thermal performance for the building’s lifetime

6,000m2 Enhanced Pedestrian Spaces and Car Park Waterproofing Solution Broadway Plaza is a multi-use facility based in Birmingham City centre; in use 24 hours a day, it houses an array of eateries, leisure and accommodation venues. Water ingress had caused fire retardant paint to peel from the metal structure. IKO Permascreed was introduced to reduce the risk of gassing from the saturated screed. IKO Polimar Fillers and Levelling Mortar were installed to take deflections from the surface. IKO Polimar FCS Walkway System was then applied. Escalators were removed and staircases installed with an IKO Polimar FCS finish.

Barratt Homes' stunning London apartments at Aldgate Place, E1 required the installation of wetrooms onto screeded floors.Linear Wall Drains and Stone-Infill Grills were specified into the apartments and penthouses within the high rise complex.To comply with planning regulations for apartment blocks, a same level waste connection was required within the 100mm floor build up of each of the wetrooms. This was achieved using the shallow linear wall drain which has a total height of only 67mm. RIW Tilesafe waterproof membrane and RIW FWM were applied to the floor and walls to prevent water penetration.

Howe Green access covers were selected for the Royal Shakespeare Company’s studio theatre renovation project ‘The Other Place’, in Stratford-Upon-Avon. The covers were required to provide routine and emergency access to underfloor ducting services throughout the building. Howe Green supplied a number of 7500 Series Medium Duty Floor Access Covers. The access covers are ideal for areas that require heavy loading as they are highly durable. Main contractor, BAM Construction, fitted the panels on a suspended concrete slab. Once installed, they were infilled with K-screed followed by a resin finish.
