The application of IKO Permascreed not only ensures fast track application, but also provides a temporary waterproofing layer prior to installation of the IKO Permatec top layer. Once cured the IKO Permascreed layer was robust enough to accept the type of traffic and concentrated loads associated with the installation of a flat roof waterproofing system.

In 2013 IKO PLC were asked to investigate issues at the Four Square Estate, Southwark, in respect of the existing access walkways that were surfaced with Mastic Asphalt, by Keepmoat and Southwark Council. It was agreed that the Mastic Asphalt required replacing, along with screed repairs and new expansion joints. Work commenced in 2014 by Superior Roofing & Building Services Ltd and was completion by 2016. During the works some 1,400 tonne of IKO Permaphalt was installed along with IKO Permascreed. A 20 year guarantee was provided giving peace of mind and long term security for the sustainability of the system.

The project is ground breaking with a plan to lock away as much carbon as possible whilst generating excess energy from systems installed. Reppel products used: Lewis Deck light weight steel/ screed composite floor system providing acoustic floors improving Building Regulations Part E standards by at least 8dB. Lacomet FL flashing was also used - as alternative to lead, solving the problem of tannins leaching from timber shingles roofs.

This scheme comprised 3 blocks of apartments each having 3 stories requiring a total of just over 3000 square meters of screed. As the client was in control of the design he called upon the expertise of our technical team to help him to decide the best route and the most cost effective design. He opted for pre-completion sound testing which allowed him to design the floors in such a way as to mitigate the costs of the testing. Our specification manager advised Gypsol Classic screed as the most cost effective and appropriate material and completed a NBS specification.

Colorminium appointed Volka Fitzpatrick as the main contractor. Aztec Screeding Ltd based in Gerrards Cross where awarded the screeding and resin package for the project. Aztec Screeding approached Longfloor liquid cement screed and their distributor to discuss the requirements for the ground floor reception area, which required a robust early drying liquid screed to be installed over water fed underfloor heating system at an average depth of 50mm.

North Newbald Village Hall in East Yorkshire had struggled with delays in the build process due to weather and supplier issues throughout the build. The original specification for the floor screed was to have a 60mm Anhydrite/Calcium Sulphate flowing screed installed with multiple finishes including linoleum, carpet and engineered timber flooring over 125m2 without any expansion or contraction joints designed into the floor detail. If the build process had gone to plan, then the acceptance of 80 days drying for the original floor screed design using Anhydrite/Calcium Sulphate was acceptable.

The client’s Production Manager, Mr John MacDonald confirmed the printing machine “has to be level otherwise the machine won’t work” and in early September, Gypsol TS20 Screed was poured on a Saturday morning providing a flat level and very thin layer to the existing uneven surface. Due to the physical strengths and rates of drying of Gypsol’s TS20 screed and the very speedy un-bonded installation, the client was able to minimise production delays and mount the press onto the freshly screeded floor after just two weeks.

The louvres have a free area of 29%, which helps to reduce wind loading, but, in order to cope with potential storm force conditions, the RHS posts were specially designed in accordance with BS EN 1991-1-4.

Furnitubes’ designers worked closely with landscape architects LDA Design to develop a system of steel components that included a skeletal sub-frame, solid plate backing panels and contrasting bronze-colour outer screens with a cut-out pattern. Furnitubes undertook the full detailed design, also coordinating with structural engineering consultants in the process, manufactured the entire steelwork structure and also completed all on-site installation of the 15 outer panels and sub-structures. Other improvements at the site include new granite paving and an impressive large scale floral artwork above the new screens, on the façade of the 3-storey car park.

This project was to be no exception and the main contractor needed advice on before finalizing the specification. The screed was to be placed on insulation at both ground and first floor underfloor heating systems. It needed to be as thin as possible. It needed to be installed quickly because, time scales were tight. Finally it needed to offer a rapid drying time to allow completion of floor coverings.

The company had previously installed a FlexiPhalte car park deck roof, hence it was chosen for the gym’s latest refurbishment – one of the busiest periods for the leisure industry with members getting in shape for the festive season. It was vital therefore the gym remained in operation whilst the new roof was installed. Staff and customer safety was paramount during this time, with BriggsAmasco erecting scaffolding around the site’s perimeter to protect those entering and exiting the building.

Recently completed 3,600m2 recovery board roof over the auditorium and sports hall uses perforated metal decking to span the main steelwork. Magply specified to carry 150mm of Hardrock DD underlay and a further 60mm of Hardrock Multifix insulation covered by a Sarnafil single ply roofing membrane. Stevie Jones, commented: “This is a large installation of some 3,600 square metres, with the auditorium and the higher level roof over the sports complex, both featuring the use of the Magply. They are being mechanically fixed to the decking prior to installing the two layers of Rockwool and then the Sarnafil membrane..”
