Bespoke resin flooring for luxury stablesTattersall Race Course (Ireland) required a bespoke resin flooring solution that could offer a very specific blend of outstanding durability, slip resistance, ease of maintenance and visual appeal. It was also crucial the new floor would be equally fit-for-purpose internally and externally, without losing its safety properties when exposed to weather changes.Tattersall is an international firm offering 10,000 thoroughbred horses each year at 15 sales at either its Newmarket headquarters in England, or at Fairyhouse outside Dublin, in Ireland.As a premier facility that offers only the best horses to the most discerning customers, Tattersalls takes immense pride in maintaining immaculate premises. This focus requires regular maintenance and refurbishment projects, and Degafloor is proud to have been involved in one of the most recent.Working in conjunction with approved partner Larsen Contracts (Ireland) Ltd, we were invited to assess the current floor finish within one of the stable blocks at Fairyhouse and recommend a bespoke resin flooring finish, based on Degafloor’s slip-resistant Full Broadcast System.To achieve the best and most consistent finish possible, the heavily tamped concrete was diamond ground, then shot blasted. The bespoke resin flooring was applied in 6 layers; first a primer, next a scratch coat was applied to create a smooth and even finish. The main system layer was then installed and a full broadcast of bauxite applied. Some 11 years later they requested Stratum applied the same flooring systems again to Phase Two, the new extension. Stratum delivered the project in collaboration with Bolidt, our European partner, installing in excess of 7,000m² of resin flooring using three different systems, connecting seamlessly into the existing resin from Phase one. The requirements for the flooring were for hardwearing and functional finishes, that were seamless in nature and hygienic. Pure Design – Bolidtop 525 and Bolidtop 525 TFColour – S 3500 - N830m2Architect – HCC ArchitectsMain Contractor - Morgan SindallInstallation dates - 2018Hampshire County Council were building a new two storey block for this rapidly expanding secondary school. The project was to use modern and sustainable building materials, and Stratum were asked to provide a seamless resin floor to fit in with the scheme. With longevity and aesthetic both key attributes, Bolidtop 525 was selected as the ideal solution. The library, classrooms, reception rooms and circulation spaces were provided with our standard finish Bolidtop 525, and the WC’s and cleaners cupboards were installed with our Bolidtop 525TF to give a more positive slip resistance in the wet. An integrated 150mm skirting was also used in the wet areas to create a watertight detail and for ease of cleaning. Hampshire were keen to use the same product on the stairs, and we were able to provide an excellent solution with the addition of a proprietary nosing. The nosing was selected to provide adequate LRV differential with the resin, and also to give maximum slip resistance to the stair. Our joint free tread/rise detail created an aesthetically pleasing yet robust detail for both the main and escape stairs.  Challenge-      To select a single flooring solution that was suitable for multiple areas, including the library, classrooms, WC’s, circulation areas, office space and stairs.-      To carefully programme in the work with the main contractor to ensure that the building conditions are suitable (watertight/dry/correct ambient temp), and also that key programme dates are met to facilitate follow on works. -      Coordination with other trades.-      To enable flush electrical floor boxes to be seamlessly incorporated within the floor.Solution-      Bolidtop 525 is sound attenuating, making for an ideal solution for the library and teaching spaces alike. The addition of an anti-slip additive to the top coats means that wet areas can be seamlessly interlinked with dry areas, with a virtually indistinguishable difference in appearance. The stairs worked very well with the addition of a proprietary nosing installed flush with the finished resin. Collaboration with M&E to ensure the correct floor boxes are procured and installed at the correct level.-      Stratum worked closely with Morgan Sindall to ensure there was a successful phased install, navigating around the project whilst maintaining access to adjoining areas for other key trades.-      To arrange delivery of materials in ample time.-      To ensure deliveries were arranged for, and were unloaded outside of school drop off and pick-up times.  Benefits/Installation-      Hampshire County Council had worked with Stratum and used Bolidt products on several projects before, and therefore they knew they were getting a resin floor of the highest quality and installation service to match.Result-      A seamless and elegant floor throughout this very modern school building, with different solutions provided to suit different areas around the building. The longevity of the floor will be proven over time in this very highly trafficked environment. “James is a very collaborative person to work with. Stratum provided the trendy space with an attractive floor to match the other natural materials and colours in the scheme. Pure Design - Bolidtop 525 and Bolidtop 525 TFColour - S 4005-Y50R1700m2Architect - KSS GroupProject Main Contractor - McLaughlin & HarveyProject Installation Dates - Jan 20/Sept 20  A building designed to “create the future” and materials used to interpret the club’s values and reflect its strength and ambition. Stratum were chosen to install 1700m² of Pure Design - Bolidtop 525 and Bolidtop 525 TF with 150mm integrated skirting throughout, to the new state-of-the-art training facility. The scheme comprised of a foyer entrance, a double height atria space, changing rooms, commercial studio and connecting spaces. The requirements were quality and robust materials, hygiene, ease of cleaning and simplicity in aesthetics.Bolidtop 525 was installed in all spaces with an additional textured finish to the showers for increased slip-resistance. The building featured underfloor heating throughout, covered by a 75mm thick screed. In the showers the resin was neatly dressed into the drains. The well known traditional British cheese producer, Long Clawson Dairy, required dairy flooring renovation at their Melton Mowbray site. The refurbishment areas included a number of production areas, including the Cheese Room floor. The client needed a hardwearing, slip-resistant, hygienic flooring to cover areas of approximately 200m².Having previously worked with The National Flooring Company on other projects, the client contacted the Degafloor Approved Installer to ask for advice on the best solution for the upcoming works. As the factory is in constant production, attention to detail was required regarding dust and fumes.Drainage was another consideration for the dairy flooring. The drainage was required to be fully operational after the installation, so for best results the contractors recommended using the Degafloor Quartz Trowelled with Aggregate resin flooring. QTA is a trowel-applied system with a quartz scatter finish that will not run into the drains upon application.Long Clawson Dairy needed a flooring solution that could be installed quickly and deliver long-term performance. Degafloor resin systems are based on ultra fast curing methyl methacrylate technology that enables rapid installation and cures as fast as two hours after application.The dairy flooring project was completed in just 6 days over 2 separate shifts. The fast curing properties of Degafloor MMA resin flooring enabled production to commence just 2 hours after the new floors and coving were installed. The Operations Director of Long Clawson Dairy was extremely happy with the end result.

The National Flooring Company, a Degafloor Ltd approved installer, have received another complimentary review following a kitchen refurbishment on the 23rd floor at a popular 4-star hotel in Manchester. Making the most of the quieter, New Year period, the hotel decided to upgrade their kitchen floor. Having worked at other locations for the popular hotel chain, The National Flooring Company were contacted to provide advice and following a successful proposal, were asked to complete the refurbishment. The kitchen, which is situated on the 23rd floor, required meticulous planning to ensure that works could be completed with minimal disruption to the hotel’s guests. The existing vinyl floor within the kitchen had become worn and brittle and sections were beginning to lift, causing a potential trip hazard. The vinyl floor was removed to expose the tiled finish underneath. Any loose tiles that had debonded from the floor were also removed and infilled with Degafloor Deep Fill, quick curing repair mortar.The National Flooring Company laid a scrape coat, embedded with a promesh reinforcing membrane, prior to the installation of the Degafloor Full Broadcast System (FB). The Degafloor FB system is broadcast with rounded aggregate to provide an anti-slip finish and retains this feature even in wet conditions to ensure employee safety is always maintained. As with all Degafloor systems, they are seamless and impervious, ensuring the floor will not lift, as previously experienced with the existing vinyl floor finish. Degafloor MMA resin flooring systems are fully cured within 2 hours of installation, allowing the hotel to resume normal kitchen operating procedures shortly after completion. MMA resins have a distinctive odour, but with the correct management, installations can progress with very little disruption. The National Flooring Company used the kitchen extraction system and sealed all doorways to contain and manage the odour.The project was completed to the satisfaction of the Chief Engineer, Hilton MCR, who commented on how good the floor looked. “The restaurant being on the 23rd floor presented a logistical challenge.  However, after careful planning and consideration of our hotel operations, The National Flooring Company completed the installation efficiently and to a high standard.  We were impressed with the service from start to finish.”

The school offers an educational provision for children with difficulties and/or physical/sensory difficulties, and therefore, safety was paramount. The floor has been previously tiled, but due to water ingress, kept failing and required frequent repair. Rising maintenance costs and risk of slips prompted the school to look for alternative solutions, with resin being an obvious choice. An MMA resin floor provides a seamless, hardwearing and impermeable finish that will offer years of service. Moy Construction Co Ltd removed the existing floor tiles and installed a new screed prior to the installation of the resin system.From the offset, achieving a floor finish with a suitable slip rating was non-negotiable. One of Cardiff city centre’s recent regeneration schemes, Capitol Quarter, required a multi storey car park to provide parking for the new office buildings within the development. To ensure the car park was protected and finished with the highest quality materials, the main contractor sought advice from Degafloor Ltd to ensure a suitable cost effective, high performance waterproofing system for the top deck, ramp and an inter deck area over occupied premises was specified. Following a full site visit and having assessed the client’s requirements in full, Degafloor specified the CP TD system with fleeced banding to substrate cracks and all upstands for the top deck, the CP HD system for the ramp and a fully fleeced CP TD for the area over occupied premises. Stratum helped create a healthy and fresh environment in the specialist research laboratories based at the world-renowned Great Ormond Street Hospital. The space would be heavily used and the nature of the work in the labs required the floor to be hygienic, seamless, easy to clean and with high resistance to chemicals. The design of the building allows the public to see through the windows into the laboratories from street level, meaning aesthetics were equally as important in product selection as functional properties. Stratum installed 800m2 of Pure Design – Bolidtop 525 with integrated skirting throughout. Solution-      Joint free makes for a very hygienic solution, with integrated joint free skirting adding to this.-      Close co-ordination with the contractor, enabled the structure to be sufficiently progressed early in the programme. This allowed the resin to be installed early and fully protected in ample time for the lab benches to be installed over.-      Electrical Floor Bokes, seamless skirting.Result-      The resin flooring installed here is an excellent addition to this multi-award winning building.  “The Bolidt resin provides the perfect seamless floor finish in the main laboratory spaces within the Zayed Centre for Research. Pure Design – Bolidtop 525Colour – S 7500-N with textureless anti-slip1300m²Installation dates - July 2021 (10 days) Museums and performing arts venues are subject to intensive use by millions of shuffling feet, day in day out as well as heavy loads from equipment and installations. Stratum were chosen to prepare and resurface 1300m2 of the existing floor to the iconic main space of the Roundhouse, in Camden, which had endured 15 years of heavy use. The building is a heritage site, originally built as a steam engine shed, therefore our flooring needed to meet the functional requirements for the users but also sensitively fit in with the history of the space and its aesthetics. The surface needed to be hardwearing allowing for large scale builds for various productions, involving plant use, installation of temporary structures, staging etc. We sanded back the entire floor, repaired the damage and installed Bolidtop 525 over the top with textureless anti-slip coating. Challenge-      Working within an extremely busy venue with a tight time scale and no room for error.-      Being a heritage site we would need to be mindful of the original structure of the building-      Large footprint spanning across the main space of the venue.-      No dust creation allowed due to sensitive electrical equipment. Solution-      We agreed a slot and timescale to carry out all of the works in 10 days. We programmed out the works for the customer and provided them with daily updates.-      We used the highest grade dust extraction equipment. We ensured that labour and materials were all available in a timely manner.Benefits/Installation-      The customer was able to select the same smooth, matt appearance they had before but with a different colour choice and the addition of our new tried and tested textureless anti-slip coating.Result-      After 15 years of heavy use this magnificent heritage site has a seamless, durable and safe floor reinstated to provide the functional qualities required for many years of intense footfall and wear the performing arts industry creates. A Degafloor Approved Installer - The National Flooring Company Ltd were approached by a A 4-star hotel, in the South of England, who had decided to update their flooring system around the swimming pool. The existing floor tiles, which had started to debond posed a trip hazard and therefore needed to be replaced. The client also advised they were experiencing problems with standing water.Following the removal of the existing floor tiles, the installation of a new screed was required to build back the levels and ensure there were adequate falls in the floor for water to run back into the pool. Throughout the installation, the gym remained open, and it had been advised that the pool closure needed to be kept to an absolute minimum. The National Flooring Company installed the Degafloor Deep Fill Mortar Repair system, a fast-curing underlayment, which ensured the refurbishment programme could continue with no downtime due to curing.The existing drain was removed and replaced, along with the light box and leveller covers, which all received new stainless-steel units. A new trim was fixed around the perimeter of the pool and the Degafloor resin system, which has an excellent bond to metal surfaces, was abutted up to all the stainless-steel items. The Degafloor QTA system used within the project, is a quartz trowelled system that can be laid to falls. The system is broadcast with aggregate to provide an extremely slip resistant finish, even under wet conditions, making it ideally suited to a swimming pool surround. Coved skirting was installed around the perimeter of the room creating a completely impervious finish, with no weak spots and therefore reducing future maintenance costs. The full refurbishment was completed over 12 days, ensuring that the closure was kept to a bare minimum.The clients main requirements were they required an anti-slip floor that would eliminate the current situation they had with standing water. They specifically requested that the closure was kept to a minimum as they are a "member's club" as well as facilitating the hotel, which remained open throughout the installation. School kitchen flooring refurbishment Millfield School kitchen flooring has recently been subject to a significant makeover. The existing vinyl finishes were showing significant signs of wear and needed to be replaced with a new flooring that offered better slip resistance and durability without the need for frequent repairs.The services of specialist industrial flooring installers, Inca Flooring & Structural Ltd, were called upon to offer advice and guidance in selecting the most suited school kitchen flooring solution.Millfield School required a flooring solution that could withstand the test of time in a constantly busy kitchen environment. In order to fulfil the client’s requirements to the highest standards, the contractors recommended using Degafloor’s fast curing, slip-resistant Full Broadcast System with associated coving.Degafloor Full Broadcast is specifically designed to deliver outstanding hygiene, performance and safety even in tough environments such as commercial kitchens, canteens and food technology areas.The school kitchen flooring was installed across two kitchen areas. Due to the ultra-fast curing nature of Degafloor MMA and flexibility of the contractor, the entire project was completed over the Xmas break.

Slip-resistant steps for Villa ParkDegafloor were thrilled to be involved in the redevelopment of Aston Villa’s famous Villa Park football stadium. Slip-resistant steps were required for the Holte End of the stadium in addition to new facilities, including a new bar and suite complex.As part of the project, slip-resistant steps were required. The entire 600m² staircases were treated with Degafloor concrete crack seal, followed by a flexible waterproof membrane to deliver a impervious solution to protect the new bar and suite complex. The staircases were then finished with a bespoke Degafloor Quartz Trowelled with Aggregate System, finished in a unique Terracotta Quartz.To comply with current DDA legislation (Disability Discrimination Act) the stairs were finished with a separately formed nosing in White.Due to the tight project timescale and to overcome traditional British weather constraints, Flo-Dek (UK) Ltd recommended a range of fast curing Degafloor resin systems. As well as being fast curing, all Degafloor systems exhibit excellent UV resistance – essential for external environments – whilst the QTA system applied to the treads offers unrivalled slip resistance to ensure spectator safety, whatever the weather conditions.Speaking on behalf of Flo-Dek (UK) Ltd, Sales Director Dave Cope said, “This was a very complex and demanding project. The colours had to match perfectly and the hand formed nosings required a high level of skill and attention to detail”.

Degafloor Marine Coating System for Scottish fishing boatDegafloor’s Full Broadcast Marine Coating System was the ideal, hardwearing and long-lasting solution for the boat decking on Ocean Endeavour.Salt water and continuous drag of steel chains from the trawler nets quickly eroded the marine paint that was installed on the top deck of Ocean Endeavour.Once the marine paint was eroded, the slip-resistance was destroyed, making the top deck slippery and exposed to rust. Similar issues were occurring on lower decks where the paint quickly de-bonded causing rust and slip hazards.An annual repaint of the decks would have resulted in unproductive time in dock, continual erosion of the decks and health and safety issues. As a result, a more permanent solution was required.Degafloor, in partnership with PBP Services, developed the Full Broadcast Marine Coating System, an MMA resin-based solution specifically for the marine industry. This marine coating system chemically bonds to the steel decks to create a monolithic finish which will not delaminate or de-bond.Using Degafloor, the resin installation on all decks was completed in just 3 shifts of 12 hours, giving a very fast turnaround for Ocean Endeavour to be in use.A small area was left treated with just the marine paint in the bulkhead. Within one year the marine paint had failed and rust was becoming a serious issue again. In contrast, the Degafloor Full Broadcast Marine System was in perfect condition, with no delamination, excellent slip-resistance with no rusting.Installation of the Degafloor FB Marine System can be completed as part of a refurbishment, but with its hardwearing properties, is an ideal product to utilise as part of the construction process of any ship or trawler.

Decorative and hardwearing school flooringArthur Mellows Village College in Peterborough has recently benefited from a new science, media and IT facility, together with extensive refurbishment of existing buildings and school flooring.The school flooring refurbishment required a decorative, yet durable, system for a variety of areas across the busy site. Designed using different colour combinations and stainless steels trims, the Degafloor Flake System was installed to a total area of 5000 sq m.Within the existing buildings, Degafloor systems were installed over existing finishes, enabling projects to be completed quickly and at lower cost.For areas where enhanced slip-resistance was required, the Degafloor Full Broadcast system was chosen as it to offers enhanced protection in high risk areas such as school kitchens and toilets. Car park refurbishment for Dublin City UniversityMcKeon Construction Limited, were looking for a durable and innovative resin waterproofing system for one of their clients, Dublin City University (DCU). The university required car park refurbishment to a multi-storey car park where the existing deck coating had started to fail.McKeon discussed the client requirements with Larsen Contracts (Ireland) Ltd, a specialist resin contractor. Larsen recommended the Degafloor Top Deck System for the car park refurbishment.The Degafloor Car Park Top Deck System is designed to offer the outstanding flexibility and performance required for top decks of multi-storey car parks. The unique formulation allows installation to occur extremely quickly, with the main system of 23mm being installed in a single application process.The project was completed according to specification, within budget and on time. A 30 year old building previously part of the Hewlett Packard campus in Bristol was selected for renovation to become the University of the West of England (UWE) Future Space. Altro resin floors were selected to meet the needs of the specification.

​​This project at Manchester Airport has now been completed by Monarch Resin Floors. The previous floor was a twenty year old tile and resin cementitious screed which was decaying and water damaged. Due to the level of decay and disrepair, the floor was dug out by a third party and re-concreted ready for the resin. Monarch installed 9mm thick FasTop TG69  polyurethane screed in 3 different colours to help the fire engines to see the tyre lines when they were reversing. White line marking was also installed.The total area was about 600m2 and included six bays and six fire tenders.

This Virgin Airlines hangar at Heathrow Airport needed a flooring finish to resist wear and chemical spills, as well as deliver aesthetic appeal – with a light coloured shiny finish that would reflect light and capture the eye to brighten the 4000 square metre area.ExecutionTo ensure the highest quality finish for the hangar the proven standard Resutile ST floor coating system was organised. Specialist resin flooring contractor Datum Flooring first shot-blasted the concrete substrate under vacuum to achieve a Concrete Surface Profile (CSP) 3 to ensure an excellent mechanical key and long term solution with the coating system. Then a primer coat of Resuflor WB was applied which penetrates the concrete and provides a sound surface seal so that an even finish is achieved with the top coats. This was followed by two roller coats of Resutile ST Colour in Light Grey.

FasTop resin flooring was chosen as it provided long term flooring solutions which would be seamless and have the hygienic standards required for this industry and the colours required could be provided . The flooring products supplied by Sherwin-Williams had the necessary fast cure performance with the alternative textures to provide a variety of finishes from smooth easy clean surfaces to heavy duty more textured areas where more non-slip texture was required which would be resilient to aggressive cleaning processes. ART and Sherwin-Williams were able to provie self-smoothing smooth finishes and trowel applied textured finishes.

Over 7,500sqm of Addastone Plus resin bonded surfacing has been installed at Glasgow Airport as part of the Glasgow Airport Investment Area (GAIA) project.The infrastructure works, funded through the £1.13billion Glasgow City Region City Deal initiative, began in June 2019 and includes new roads, bridges, cycling routes and pedestrian walkways around the airport.As part of the infrastructure works, Addagrip approved contractor Resarf Flooring Ltd was appointed by main contractor Wills Brothers Civil Engineering Ltd to install 7,575m2 of Addastone Plus Resin Bonded surfacing in a hard wearing 1-2mm Autumn Quartz for the perimeter paths around the site.The durable resin bonded system offers a seamless decorative, highly functional surface with excellent slip resistance.The installation was completed in May 2022.

Client: Rothschild FoundationLocation: Waddesdon, UKYear: 2023Project size: 100 m²Vebro systems: vebroflex Comfort UV PlusA resin floor was required to ensure a seamless visual transition between the floors and walls at a unique, 12 metre high, wedding-cake-shaped venue, colour matching perfectly to the vibrant pastel pallet of the tiles and sculptures adorning the exterior façade.Set in the beautiful English countryside in Buckinghamshire, Waddesdon Manor was built by Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild to display his collection of arts and to entertain his friends.According to Rothschild Foundation, who manage the house, “The contemporary ethos of the estate looks to ensure all of its assets are cared for holistically and the past, present and future combine and are presented to the highest standard and level of inspection at all times”.Standing within a grove of trees on the estate of Waddesdon Manor, this ceramic sculptural pavilion – in the form of a three-tiered wedding cake – is the latest Rothschild Foundation commission from celebrated Portuguese artist Joana Vasconcelos.Aptly named Wedding Cake, over 25,000 gleaming, icing-like ceramic tiles decorate the cake – all made in a traditional Portuguese manufactory – glazed in pale pinks, greens, and blues.100 square metres of Vebro Polymers’ vebroflex Comfort UV Plus system was installed in two colours – RAL 6019 Pastel Green in the central area atrium with RAL 9010 Pure White around the perimeter.vebroflex Comfort UV Plus is a solid-coloured, UV-stable, elasticised, polyurethane liquid-vinyl resin that achieves up to 200% elongation at break. Once cured, the material delivers a smooth, matt-finish surface that deadens sound transfer between floors by up to 4Db. Additional sound absorption can be achieved with a liquid membrane or rubber matting.The cementitious screed was reinforced using vebroscreed R&S (Repair & Strengthen) to improve the compressive strength of the sand / cement screed.vebroscreed R&S is a transparent, solvent free, epoxy material used to penetrate fine crack and fissures in cement-based semi-dry cementitious levelling screeds – injecting additional strength and reinforcement prior to the installation of floor coverings.One of the most interesting aspects of the install involved an intricate mandala formed in brass, which was positioned in the centre of the lower atrium floor, creating a stunning central focal point underfoot for visitors.The pigmented aliphatic comfort resin was used to infill each of the brass trim petals using a large syringe. A popular brewery brand recently expanded its headquarters to support the increase in demand of its craft beer range. John Lord Flooring were approached to specify the resin flooring and Aspen Stainless steel products were utilised for the drainage system. The Uragard-HT62W antimicrobial resin flooring was an ideal solution for the project due to its durability, chemical resistance and anti-slip properties. The floors and drains worked hand in hand to distribute waste water into the central drainage channel within the processing area.Aspen Stainless Davos Plus drain channels were installed to cope with the high level of waste demand within the brewery. The channel profile was carefully designed to provide an easy to clean surface with a self-draining slope feature. The strictest level of hygiene standards are required within food and drink facilities due to the build-up of bacteria and possible cross contamination of liquids.   It's essential the drainage is perfectly compatible with the flooring to ensure a seamless connection and high performance. This partnership with John Lord supports optimum performance compatibility by preventing the elevation of floor plates that can compromise hygienic performance.The drain channels are designed in compliance with EHEDG (European Hygienic Engineering & Design Group) to support safe hygienic engineering in food manufacture. The EHEDG states ‘product contact surfaces must be easy to clean, non-absorbent and not present a toxicological hazard by leaching of substances and foodstuffs’ the cleanability of the drainage is also an important hygiene requirement as stated in the EHEDG ‘Improperly or insufficiently cleaned equipment cannot be effectively disinfected’ A perfectly fitted drainage system will have a positive impact on boosting the hygienic performance of the entire facility. This includes employee health & safety, operational costs as well as consumer safety. Resin flooring systems from Sherwin-Williams for food and drink manufacturing areas are seamless, strong, slip-resistant and safe for pedestrian traffic. Textured products including FasTop TG69 are independently tested as having low slip potential when tested with the TRRL Pendulum method promoted by the Health & Safety Executive.In order to reduce the impact on daily operations and allow food production to continue, FasTop TG69 is low odour and can be installed as quickly as possible in line with fast-track programmes to avoid disrupting manufacturing procedures as much as possible.This flooring system can withstand high temperatures, thermal exposure to reflective heat from ovens, as well as heavy impact, heavy machinery and equipment, and a high volume of footfall. It can also resist particularly harmful chemicals used as part of the Clean-In-Place CIP process such as caustic soda, nitric and phosphoric acid.

Addagrip Terraco approved contractor Resarf Flooring Ltd has completed a 3500m2 resin bound installation for the new High School in Portobello on the outskirts of Edinburgh. Using Addaset resin bound and Addacolor resin bound coloured surfacing the main feature was the creation of a distinctive world map design.The project funded by the City of Edinburgh Council includes a new building for 1,400 pupils at the site in Portobello Park, sympathetically designed by JM Architects with the landscape in mind.SURFACING REQUIREMENTThe new paving around the school needed to be low maintenance and durable with good slip resistance. The project also required a colourful durable surfacing product to create a resin bound map of the world to be installed adjacent to the Geography department for use during lessons. Designed in contrasting Addacolor Blue and Addaset Lucerne Silver, the map design sets off the area beautifully and should hopefully encourage the pupils to get outdoors and ‘see a bit of the world’. Addaset Lucerne Silver was also installed to the forecourt and rear courtyards of the school to provide a free draining natural silver granite effect surface to complement the colour of the new building.The new school opened to pupils in October 2016.

Dural worked in conjunction with Northern Star flooring to renovate a section of floor within the new south entrance concourse. Northern Star Flooring is an experienced resin floor contractor based in the North of England. The first phase began in 2018 and the project involved the redevelopment and modernisation of the main southern concourse. The plans also included a new roof and stunning glazed façade in addition to more floor space. The flooring specified will be used by the station’s 100,000 daily users. Dural has been integral in offering technical advice on how to install their coloured movement joints for this huge expanse of floor. 

Chelmer Waterside near Chelmsford in Essex, is a residential-led riverside quarter, delivering new homes and public spaces south-east of the city centre. The site of a former gas works, the land is being regenerated to offer high quality affordable housing on the River Chelmer peninsula.SURFACING REQUIREMENTAddagrip approved contractor The TP Group was appointed by Taylor Wimpey to assist with various aspects of the project, including Landscaping, Painting, and Fire Protection. They were also pleased to help with a very demanding first floor level crescent and second floor walkway within the heart of the ongoing development.Many logistical challenges of surfacing the podium decks were managed and overcome, alongside time restraints and weather conditions. The original plans of using pedestal paving were shelved due to time restraints and material availability. Following discussions, an Addagrip Terrabase Classic Resin Bound no-dig gravel system with a Stonebound finish was selected as the surfacing product due to speed of installation, aesthetics and availability.The TP Group installed a 365mm deep substrate, consisting of various materials, for the podium balconies on the first and second floor level ready for Addagrip’s Terrabase Classic resin bound system. A Stonebound 6mm bespoke blend was selected as the Terrabase Classic resin bound finish with 297m2 being installed on the first floor level crescent and 66m2 on the second floor walkway.The new paving offers a decorative, low maintenance surface with excellent slip resistance.The installation was completed in January 2021.

Designed by architectural practise Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, the distillery consists of five cells that seamlessly blend into The Macallan’s traditional Speyside estate as undulating, green-roofed earthworks. Four of these would house the brand’s production operations and one would be the visitor centre. The industrial elements of the site were provided with Flowfresh HF LT, while the new centre utilised a range of decorative resin flooring solutions.
