Minsthorpe Leisure Centre in Yorkshire is managed by Wakefield Council - offering a 25-metre swimming pool, a gym, and fitness classes including Zumba, Pilates, HIIT workouts, and boxercise.With support from our technical team, JML Building Services were advised to use Fixfast TapFast Stainless HCR fasteners, for use in corrosive environments. The finished effect was a brand-new swimming pool with roofing and cladding fixings that would stay in place despite the risk of corrosion.

Mapei systems have been used in the construction of a swimming pool at the American School in London, St John’s Wood. Complete waterproofing and ceramic tiling solutions were installed over a nine month period to areas in the pool tank and changing room interiors and exteriors. The project was completed whilst the school remained open, which meant materials had to be installed quickly and with as little disruption as possible, without compromising on quality. Roof slates by Welsh Slate feature on the renovated Cleveland Pools.The UK’s oldest public open-air swimming baths, once used as a trout farm, are enjoying a new lease of life, thanks in part to Welsh Slate.Some 75m2 of Welsh Slate’s new Penrhyn Heather Blue roofing slates feature alongside salvaged originals on the main building and changing rooms of the lido at Cleveland Pools, a Grade II* listed building that had been on the Buildings at Risk register.

Helo was commissioned to create a poolside sauna in keeping with this traditional style pool hall in a country estate in the south west. Space was limited and effort was made to reduce, as far as possible, the impact of the cabin on the surrounding décor. The client wished to enjoy a view of the existing pool area whilst bathing in the sauna. This was achieved with an angled glass door and full height glazed panel. Helo’s sophisticated Fusion heater, with steam generator, was used to allow a multi climate sauna to suit varying tastes.

Features in 2015 on Grand Designs was an enormous modern house inspired by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe’s German Pavilion in Barcelona. This house adds to this oeuvre on a massive scale, reflecting the footprint in two connected pavilion buildings spanning 60 metres, with a swimming pool in place of the reflective pool. With single storey modernist buildings of this type the largest surface is the one that is not seen – the flat roof. In the case of Pavello the roof is a full 600m2 of Armourplan P with a bespoke fabricated edge detail.

Albion Riverside is a high-end residential and commercial development located on the southwest bank of the River Thames. It is between two listed and historic bridges – Albert Bridge and Battersea Bridge and not too far from Westminster. It has been built to create a dynamic quarter in Battersea, London, on the upper floors there are apartments and on lower levels are shops, art galleries and an indoor pool. KEIM Concretal Lasur was applied in 2003 to the V Beams and the swimming pool soffits to improve the concrete appearance whilst still maintaining a natural concrete effect.

Overlooking the majestic panorama of the Dolomites, the hotel was completely rebuilt with the aid of ARDEX products. Inclusive of 6 indoor and outdoor swimming pools. 

Following the current trend for basement installations our client had an interesting twist; a large underground area was to be created under the rear garden. Designed to house the client’s beautiful motor cars, there was still plenty of room to include an opulent, huge swimming pool and generously sized sauna and steam room with shower between. Both rooms were designed with a U shaped, emphasising the great social occasion of heat bathing with clear glass fascias providing a wide view of the pool and client’s stunning décor including a feature faux-living wall.Sauna: Warm Alder panelling was chosen for the sauna with a hidden heater to have clean lines and ensure absolute safety for young ones.Steam Room: The matching steam room was lined in beautiful pearl green mosaics to echo the pool finish.Yet another angle on how to introduce a wellness feature at home, all beautifully presented and a project in which Sauna360 were proud to play our part!

The Hale Country Club has a rural setting but only four miles from the hustle and bustle of Manchester airport. When the Hut Group purchased the club they looked to enhance the appearance throughout the facility. Phase two was the health suite and vitality pool. Sauna360 designed four new thermal rooms in the area and replaced the existing grp tiled vitality pool with a beautiful stainless steel design. The internal space was opened up with large glass frontage to all but the steam room. Two feature showers with cool mists and tropical rain were added together with an ice station.

A charming, contemporary style private villa with a swimming-pool in Gobelsbach in Germany was designed to create a large living solution surrounded by nature.Atlas Concorde outdoor floors of the Trust LASTRA 20mm collection give a touch of elegance to the outdoor spaces of the house. The outdoor flooring of the terrace of the villa mirrors, with harmony, the naturalness of the surrounding environment. The wood-look porcelain tiles have a rich and detailed surface that conjures up images of nature that is lavish and intriguing. The garden and the relaxation area develops into a sought-after outdoor space where even the smallest of details have been cared for, thanks to the presence of a large swimming-pool with shower and an outdoor living area. The stone-look porcelain tiles are the protagonists of the patios surrounded by the green facing the rooms of the house. The outdoor floors covered with Trust LASTRA in 20mm thickness and in size 45x90 permeates into the space with a surface featuring excellent technical performance, is safe, anti-slip and resistant to adverse weather conditions. The collection also includes numerous trim tiles that are suitable to clad swimming-pool edges, pathways and steps guaranteeing a coordinated project.

This project features a unique look, designed by us with made-to-measure stonework, including deck-level pool copings and integrated spa seating, incorporating inset lighting.

Licata waterproofing systems were used throughout the modern bathrooms and swimming pool facility. Licata resin flooring created a sleek and modern finish throughout public area of the hotel.

The centre is a world-class water sports facility which compromises a 50m pool, waterpark and health club. The centre hosted the Special Olympics and European SC Championships in 2003.

Riverside Ice and Leisure, ChelmsfordClient: Chelmsford City CouncilArchitect: Pick EverardInstaller: Geschwender GmbhProduct: Bespoke Locker and Cubicle solutions from GeschwenderAs part of a major renovations project for the leisure centre in 2019, LSA and Geschwender supplied and installed lockers and cubicles to the changing rooms and studio areas.The complete facility refurbishment includes a new 25m swimming pool and learning pool with a spectator area and flume, as well as modern studio spaces and 130 station state-of-the-art gym. Other new additions to the leisure centre include a new café and creche as well as improvements to general access and the main sports hall and ice rink.The improvements achieved by Chelmsford City Council and Pick Everard architects aimed to make the space more accessible for disabled guests. The new swimming pool facility has a submersible entry platform and pool pod for wheelchair users as well as an access hoist for the learner pool. With the introduction of new changing places units and additional accessible wet and dry changing rooms the site is geared towards making the experience of their disabled guests as easy as possible with the support of Chelmsford Access Group.LSA are proud to have worked with Riverside Ice and Leisure since 2006 when we first supplied some lockers and cubicles to changing rooms. Over the next 12 years we kept in touch with the leisure centre, adding more Geschwender cubicles and lockers to the site as well as completing minor repairs and supplying a few replacement keys and locks.In 2018 we were thrilled when Riverside and the architects at Pick Everard contacted us to be part of the new major refit project. In addition to restyling the space with a more modern colour scheme and accessories we were able to design the changing room from the ground up. Totally refurbished in only 8 weeks after the late realisation that the entire pool floor had to be removed and retiled, ARDEX dived in to offer a fast track solution for theupcoming Commonwealth Games.

Large scale Aquacrete lining installation to an underground swimming pool in a private house in London.120m2 of Aquacrete cement and quartz waterproof lining in Misty White colour was hand applied and then polished over existing mosaic tiles.

Helo are proud to announce the completion of the Spa at no.21 Wapping Lane in the heart of London’s Tower Hamlet district. The Ballymore Group called upon the expertise of Helo to install a high end Sauna, Steam room and Vitality Pool.

Ground source review: Rural Farmhouse RetrofitTwo Kensa 15kW Evo’s were installed to deal with the heating and hot water demands of an old farmhouse conversion with a swimming pool in a picturesque rural farm in the South West of England.

Spelthorne Leisure Centre is a brand new development, once completed, it will be a leading energy efficient leisure centre. Complete with 25m pool and sports courts.Klasse G-board has been utilised in this project as the chosen external sheathing board.

Helo was commissioned to provide a new health suite for Netherwood Hotel in Cumbria including Herbal Sauna, Aroma Steam Room, Salt Inhalation, Feature Shower and Ice Feature. The conversion of the old tiled pool to three wellness tubs of varying temperatures completed the project.

Waterproofing of the 6-lane, 25m swimming pool and basement area within a new fitness and leisure complex in West Sussex, Worthing. Situated adjacent to the existing Aquarena, the centre enjoys a unique seafront view, but is also exposed to the marine conditions indicative of its location.

As described by Eastleigh Borough Council, the £25 million facility underpins the council’s commitment to promoting a healthy borough. It incorporates a high quality design in keeping with the parkland environment and has high environmental standards. The new building will boast many facilities that are larger than at present, including an eight-lane, 25-metre swimming pool, a larger, versatile learner pool, 15-badminton court sports hall, a versatile, multi-station gym and a group spinning studio. This case study will look at the challenges and solutions of this vast project that involved insulating and waterproofing over 8,500m2 of flat roof areas.Following decades of experience using Polyroof’s liquid systems to protect buildings throughout the district, including waterproofing the original Fleming Park Leisure Centre back in the early 1990’s, Eastleigh Council specified the Protec system for the project.

The project involves demolishingthe legacy pool and hall to makeway for two new swimming pools, athermal suite, a modern gym,state-of-the-art fitness equipment,exercise and refreshment facilities. Brett was able to provide 305 m2 ofInvicta Trio in each of the threecolours – Moonstone, Onyx, andPearl – as well as an additional 20m2 of mixed size paving in 80mm ofeach colour for the project. Bycombining these colours, the clientwas able to create an eye-catching,mix n match design leading up tothe Leisure Centre entrance.Brett’s Invicta block pavingproducts were able to solve severalchallenges faced by the project,including the need for a suitableproduct that was readily availableand competitively priced. WithBrett’s help, the paving contractorwas able to source the requiredpaving products without any delays,ensuring that the project wascompleted on time and withinbudget.

Former Midlands Bank building which is Grade I listed, has recently been renovated to provide a 252 bedroom hotel, restaurant with ancillary uses including bar, health and leisure facilities, event spaces, roof top terraces with a bar/restaurant and a swimming pool.

Helo’s design brief was to create two luxurious wellness rooms to overlook the swimming pool in this prestigious central London development. Both the Aroma steam and the Herb Sauna have a full glass frontage with central wide access doors. Finishes throughout are in keeping with the opulence and expectations for this high end development.

Architect: JM ArchitectsInstaller: Profile Projects LtdProduct: ‘Shiluvit’ by Oranit500m2 of Shuluvit panels in 7-601 format in A-9-1 (Oak) stained Yellow Pine were installed to the ceiling of the swimming pool area at Orchard Brae Complex Needs School near Aberdeen.The Shiluvit panels are a stunning feature of the swimming pool area in addition to providing acoustic dampening to the bright and open space; the panels were also finished with a humidity resistant lacquer to protect the ceiling against the damp environment and ensure quality and stability for the life cycle of the product.In addition to education facilities for up to 150 pupils the brand new £18.5m Centre of Excellence, the campus is a community hub for families, groups, and charities working with children and adults with additional support needs; the facility houses sensory rooms, working gardens, specialist home economics teaching spaces, and play facilities as well as being a base for local outreach speech and language services.

The original Ironmonger Row Baths site was built in the 1930s with swimming pool and traditional style bathing house of hot rooms and cold plunge in the basement. These facilities were completely upgraded in 2012 with saunas and steam rooms added.  In January 2022, the basement spa was destroyed by a fire. A complete restoration of the area was required of the builder’s work, fabric and services and Sauna360 UK was honoured to be commissioned to design and install all wellness areas. In January 2024 the "bathing house" re-opened to a wonderful reception.There has been a transformation of the area and a feeling of space, tranquillity and relaxation. Huge full height tiles adorn the walls throughout. Longitudinal floor tiles subtly take the eye to the glass fronted Salt sauna at one end and the backlit image and relax zone the other.  On arriving from the changing area the guest has a choice of contemporary facilities of saunas, aroma steam rooms, feature showers and ice to the left or traditional hot rooms, cold plunge and massage slabs to the right with large relaxation areas in the centre.  In the contemporary zone there are two large saunas: The Juniper Sauna This sauna  is operated at 75-85C with automatic infusion for a medium humidity. To the front a Juniper wall provides a beautiful detail with its own natural spicy aroma.  Behind the benches, and hidden within the wall, are Infra red panels. These allow the room to be operated in separate sessions at a lower temperature 40-45C with the benefits of IR bathing.The Salt Sauna The Salt Sauna is hot (85-95C) and dry like a traditional Finnish sauna and provides the ideal environment for the large salt wall. The impressive sauna has the height for a third bench in the hottest zone. The glass front allows the backlit salt wall and attractive finishes to be viewed from outside and the feeling of space appreciated from within. The Aroma Steam Room This opulent room has copious amounts of steam infused with seasonally changing essence. The stunning, large format, dark marble tiles are paired with subtle underbench lighting to create a relaxing ambience. Inclined backrests are used for ultimate comfort.Salt Inhalation Steam Room Contrasting beautifully with Aroma Steam Room, this thermal experience infuses the area with a mint or lemon essence to complement the automated salt spray within the steam environment for enhanced inhalation benefits.Completing the area are two Feature showers with warm and cool programs using essence plus a Cool room with ice feature and icy mint spray.Infrared Benching In the central area there is a long Recliner bench in ergonomic ceramics with gentle Infra red heating plus an expansive relaxation zone.Hot Rooms In the traditional zone there are the Hot Rooms. A series of interlinked rooms in large ceramics with increasing temperature as you get further in for the ultimate thermal experience.Drench Bucket & Plunge Pool Outside the hot rooms one will find a drench bucket cleansing shower and a large Plunge pool. The plunge pool now includes a unique heat recovery system which uses the heat removed from the plunge pool water to provide heat to the existing learner pool.Massage Slabs & Footrests The traditional zone also has twin heated Massage slabs for wet massage treatments by the spa therapists. The area is completed by additional heated benching with heated foot rests, below the backlit feature wall.

Distributed by Vertex in Israel Accoya has been used for a swimming pool decking area and under water deck. Raised grain, splitting and rotting of wood is greatly reduced if not eliminated with Accoya compared to other woods. Accoya was coated in a Blanchon oil with the Accoya underwater left natural to go grey over time.

Supplied by Kobel, in Italy Accoya was specified for the decking. The decking was wire brushed for a textured distressed looking finish and then laid around the swimming pool in the grounds of the residence. The client is pleased with the quality and overall finish of the decking and has the peace of mind that Accoya will be dimensionally stable, has outstanding durability and the added benefit of a guarantee of 50 years.

Shangri-La Hotel at The Shard in London is the capital’s highest hotel, in one of the world’s most iconic buildings boasting panoramic skyline views. This elegant hotel features 202 uniquely designed rooms and suites, 4 restaurants and bars, and the highest Infinity Sky Pool in London. Lorient supplied DS acoustic, smoke and fire seals.

Stargroves, a Grade II listed building, is a manor house and estate in Hampshire. Its best known for being the home of Mick Jagger in the 70s. The on site recording studio has been used by The Rolling Stones, Rod Stewart, and Bob Marley, adding to the rich history of the site.Other bands who have recorded on the grounds include Bob Marley, Iron Maiden and Status Quo.The project entailed the refurbishment of the internal swimming pool area. Main contractor SizeBreed Construction, gave the project to Soundis, to resolve the persistent reverberation issues within the area. Crucially, however, they didn’t want a solution which took away from the character of the building.This was perfect project for the seamless 25mm Spray Plaster Boards. This system can be applied to virtually any surface, including straight and curved walls, dramatic angles and arching domes. Which was particularly helpful on the outside the pool area. Acoustic spray plaster solutions offer a more flexible, discreet alternative to traditional acoustic solutions, such as suspended ceilings.

The Ashington Leisure Centre is a community and leisure facility that sets a high benchmark and precedent for design excellence, marking the beginning of a regeneration for the town centre. Externally the building stands with civic pride facing the town centre. The scale of the large volumes: the triple height entrance foyer and pool elevation are fenestrated with tall glazed panels bringing elegance and emphasis to the entrance area.

A state-of-the-art leisure centre in Bristol designed by LA Architects features extensive use of Technal’s aluminium curtain walling to help create a vibrant new facility and encourage more local people to participate in sport and physical activity. The privately financed project is also one of the first centres in the UK with a 50m swimming pool to achieve a BREEAM ‘excellent’ rating.

Shooters Sports bar is a modern sports bar located in Neath Town Centre, a principal area of Port Talbot, Wales.  A popular venue, well known for its 6 screens showing live sports, licensed bar and pool, American pool and snooker tables.Delta Registered Installers, Tywi Damp Proofing were first approached to offer remedial assistance with a section of wall which was experiencing severe water ingress.The structure being of reinforced concrete and old wall construction was allowing water ingress via cracks in the structure.Most faults in older structures which allow water ingress are either damaged or deteriorating mortars.Any cracks in the brickwork or substrates will also allow water to enter a structure and would need addressing in creating a Grade 3, habitable space under BS8102:2009 “Code of practice for protection of below ground structures against water from the ground”.Prior to proposing remedial works, ground water assessment, drainage and associated risk assessments were all undertaken.
