Roofing slates from Welsh Slate's Cwt-y-Bugail quarry were specified for the new-look Royal Pagoda. Welsh Slate roofing slates have played a “critical” role in the award-winning renovation of one of London’s most unusual buildings. A two-year conservation project to restore the roofs, and 80 decorative dragons, on the 18th Century Great Pagoda in the World Heritage Site of the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew will give the public access to the upper floors for the first time in decades.

IKO provided a new fully built-up IKO Ultra Prevent System including an IKO enertherm ALU Tapered Insulation Scheme. This not only enhanced the falls to drain rainwater more effectively but also upgraded the thermal value of the roof which will save the Pre-School money on their heating bills. IKO designed a bespoke solution, in keeping with the building’s grade II listed status which also assisted with achieving the u-value upgrade required for current building regulations. The client was highly satisfied with an IKO 25 year single point warranty.

Following consultation with the city planning department, Mather & Ellis Stonemasons ordered Clement W20 steel windows for phases 3,4 and 5 of works completed during 2014. Steel windows were replaced in many of the University’s fine buildings including The Beyer Building, John Owens Building and The Christie Library. Although the Clement W20 steel window system was used throughout, every building had individual design and installation specifications to maintain the correct appearance.

Located on the south side of Tavistock Place, in the heart of the intellectual hub of London, the recently refurbished 4 Tavistock Place offers approximately 8077 sq ft of high specification CAT A modern office space and boasts fantastic outside space and terraces. Full lighting design and calculations alongside luminaire schedules were produced for the office space and communal areas by the team to ensure the correct light levels were achieved. The linear profile Rio Suspended was used across the scheme as the main office lighting. Several LED downlights from 299 range have been supplied for the communal areas.

Clement Windows Group have replaced the original steel fenestration at the Old Marylebone Town Hall, recently leased by the London Business School from Westminster Council on a 35 year renewable contract. In order to increase teaching facilities by 70 percent, the building has undergone a major £60m refurbishment and Wates Construction were chosen as the Main Contractors to undertake the challenge of joining the two iconic buildings in an eclectic mix of the traditional and contemporary. The new building, designed by architects Sheppard Robson, is named the Sammy Ofer Centre in honour of the late Sammy Ofer KBE.

The Ascent Aluminium fixed ladder access system was specified to create a permanent safe access route to the roof for maintenance personnel. As the ladder provided access between two membrane roofs there was a requirement to specify non-penetrative support feet at both head & base. Hoops were provided throughout for fall protection and the ladder was manufactured in accordance with CE 1090 factory production control procedures.

The flood screen is a cork gasket for our single and double flyscreen air bricks and is simply inserted in the air brick when flooding is likely or imminent in place of the fly mesh. Once the danger has passed the copper fly mesh is replaced and the cork flood screen stored away safely until require again. It is available with our 9x3 and 9x6 cast iron air bricks here

As part of the Railway Upgrade Plan, Platform 1 at Stamford Station in Lincolnshire was recently refurbished. Careful consideration resulted in the use of Twinfix Multi-Link-Panels Non-Fragile to replace the old curved corrugated roofing of the canopy and the end result is more in keeping with the original age and design of this elegant Grade II listed building. Passengers and staff are now all benefiting from the high levels of natural light that floods the platform.

CPS worked with the vicar and churchwarden at St Mark in the Salisbury to provide a new church dais. Seven Alu Rapid platforms and eight custom staging platforms were manufactured and installed. The custom platforms bridged the chancel steps and fit around the church pillars. There were also two bespoke Alu Rapid ramps and timber steps installed. The staging platforms were covered in Heckmondwike Supacord carpet which fitted around the electrical socket boxes.

Spectus Vertical Sliders were identified as the windows that would deliver the aesthetics required for a building in a conservation area and provide more thermally efficient and improved sound insulation for the occupants. The Spectus specification team worked closely with all parties to develop the technical designs and specification approvals of the windows. The comprehensive Spectus in-house commercial design facility provided exacting information that covers WER’s, structural, window loading and load bearing calculations and detailed section specification. Furthermore, sample windows were provided to help support the planning application. The finished result has transformed the exterior of the apartments.

The memorial to the dead in the Iraq, Afghanistan and Gulf conflicts was produced in Jordans Basebed Portland Stone and is composed of 10 blocks, the largest of which weighed 7000kg each. In fact they were so heavy that stoneCIRCLE's lifting equipment could not cope with them and we had to buy in a 15 tonne crane to help with the job. The crane now makes life much easier for the team that unloads the delivery lorries. The stone is smooth and lettered on the back and front but rough hewn on the other 2 sides.

Each framework was also accompanied by a bespoke access platform to one longitudinal side of the air-handling units for maintenance purposes.

BriggsAmasco undertook resurfacing at King’s Cross Station, improving platforms and walkways, as part of the station’s wider redevelopment programme. A team of eight BriggsAmasco operatives and managers carried out works throughout the night on a shift basis over a three month period. Using a mastic asphalt system laid across concrete floor slabs, platforms one to eight will each benefit from new surfaces, following removal of any existing asphalt. The new asphalt has been mixed with luminous sand which provides both an aesthetically pleasing finish whilst offering a good foot grip and finish.

The new city centre campus at Cardiff & Vale College sees a distinctive wedge shape building designed with a high focus on sustainability. Furnitubes designers worked closely with the project contractors and Architects involved who were keen to encourage open welcoming spaces for students and members of the public. Part of the solution included a bespoke Elements Podium platform, manufactured in iroko timber slats with steel supports. The platform created an informal seating provision to encourage interaction and socialisation amongst students. Also supplied to the development were a number of contemporary seats and benches to suit the character of the scheme.

The former Gaumont Palace Theatre, a grade II listed building had been given a second life to become the Ellen Terry building for Coventry University. Kestrel Aluminium together with HTL Windows and Doors took on the project to give the building a fresh look and combine the historic style with the modern touch. As the building is a remembrance from the golden age of cinema the vital part was to create an elegant run of doors which matched the original façade using modern, thermally broken commercial entrance doors.
