After 20 years of being empty & unused, one of Wales’ most historic churches has been brought back into use as residential accommodation. The Grade II listed St John’s Church has been converted into 20 unique apartments. NHD05 and NHD17 have been specified and installed within the church. NHD17 with Dolphin Grey inserts have been used on all the main communal stair wells and feature a yellow insert on the top and bottom steps to help the visually impaired distinguish when a staircase ends and another begins.

As part of the exhibit, Gradus was chosen to provide LED stair edgings for a custom-built theatre to showcase two films from Rosalind Nashashibi, one of the shortlisted artists. Her films use the camera as an eye to convey moments and events, merging everyday observations with fantastical and mythological elements. Electrical Gaza (2016) captures the self-contained life of Gaza, removed from the world yet somehow enchanted and Vivian’s Garden (2017) depicts the relationship between two artists, who are mother and daughter, in the connected houses they share in a jungle garden in Panajachel, Guatemala.

A sympathetic synergy of the historical and the contemporary, Church Hill Barn offers spacious living in a beautiful rural setting. Glazing Vision’s Flushglaze fixed rooflights were instrumental in flooding the grand central atrium of the barn with natural daylight.

The «Plus-Energie-Haus» constructed by the Technische Universität Darmstadt is a Solar Decathlon winner. The competition has been held each year since 2002 by the US Ministry for Energy. The task is to design and build a residential house to suit life that is self-sufficient with regard to energy. The houses must cover their entire energy requirements through self-produced solar power. Between two layers is a protected external area with sliding windows and folding slat shutters that can be opened and closed as needed. The folding sliding shutters are equipped with HAWA Variofold 80 H.

Listone Giordano were chosen to meet the challenge of adding warmth and elegance to an "industrial" space - and succeeded, with a special custom oak flooring. Characterised by tastefully furnished loft-like bedrooms, and views overlooking the iconic Singapore River, and modern luxe finishes, the hotel aims to provide guests with an account of Singapore’s developing days where economic and underground activities flourished as a trading port.

Nestled between listed buildings in the heart of London with views over St Paul’s, this 108,000 sq ft cutting-edge office building was designed for maximum sustainability. In designing the building, PLP Architecture was mindful that their spatial and material approach should also be directly informed by these prestigious adjacencies. With sustainability and heritage at the forefront of the design, we worked with Aedas Architects, to specify INTRAform Double Module Entrance Matting with a bronze anodised finish and anthracite fibre insert for the 10,000 sq ft grand entrance. Lema designed the bespoke furniture for 193 rooms, including 10 suites, of the brand The Dixon. The hotel in South Bank, one of London’s most cultural postcodes. The whole building has been fully restored, conserving key details and highlighting its Edwardian heritage, such as the large windows and the façade, which are original features. The redevelopment was led by Twenty2Degrees, who gave life to a refined project of interiors able to unite classical and modern elements. Lema designed, manufactured and installed all the wardrobes, boiserie, beds, TV units, minibars, including the doors and the bathroom furnishings.

For this particular project we installed a ThinkingWall at Boston College sized to fill a wall space almost floor to ceiling and left wall to right wall. The whiteboard was then customised with printed vinyls featuring a branded design to make the ThinkingWall unique to the college. At 2.2m high and 4.8m wide this bespoke magnetic whiteboard provides a huge surface area for writing, drawing, creative thinking and visual planning. The finished size is achieved through a modular system of panels that are fitted together on site to create a continuous writing surface with fine tensioned joining seams.

We worked with ZSL London Zoo on successful installation of WRAS approved, outdoor, stainless steel bottle refill stations. These stations were chosen to help combat plastic waste left on site by the visitors and staff and provide them with a convenient, clean and practical place to refill their reusable water bottles. The units provided are also wheelchair accessible, aesthetically pleasing and capable of rapid filling of sports bottles. We provided consultation, then an engineer survey and providing all necessary technical information and finally installation. Continued support and service for the units is also provided.

In looking for a full tanking solution for the ensuite bathrooms of renowned chef Michael Caines’ dream project, stone specialists Devon Stone elected to use various forms of the multi-functional tile backerboard Schlüter-KERDI-BOARD. The project took a Grade II listed Georgian manor house and converted it into a striking contemporary country house hotel with 21 guestrooms. As well as gourmet cuisine and luxurious yet subtle interiors, Lympstone Manor has pride of place overlooking the Exe estuary, a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) due to the wildlife it supports.

Following years of neglect, the Grade II Listed Fellowship, Bellingham - London has undergone a huge transformation and in June 2019 reopened as the ‘Fellowship and Star’. Harking back to its history as a music and entertainment venue, it has a new cinema, theatre, concert space, pub; and is also home to charity ‘Lewisham Music’. To prevent the ingress of traffic noise from a busy thoroughfare outside and to prevent noise outbreak from the concerts and music lessons, 32 secondary glazed acoustically insulating units were manufactured and installed by Selectaglaze, to improve the performance of the original crittal windows.

Skerries Road Southway Campus in Plymouth comprises of 67 timber frame units supplied by local manufacturer and STA member Cornwall Timber Build. Originally a traditional block exterior, the architects changed the design to accommodate the innovative RendaClad façade. The programme was delivered 3 months ahead of schedule on the overall contract when utilising a form of modern methods of construction with the use of SPSenvirowall’s RendaClad. Whilst not satisfied with the BBA for a minimum 30-year service life, SPSenvirowall went into contract with BOPAS BLP and Lloyds Register to achieve a stand-alone assurance.

The semi-automatic partitions can be used to quickly divide a laboratory learning facility as well as office space, creating smaller areas or opening up the area as required. For this high-spec project, Style worked with architects, Perkins and Will, and contractor, Tetris Bluu. Finished in a blue fabric combined with magnetic white boards, the semi-automatic operation walls are both functional and practical.

With its legendary address and bold ionic columns, the Grade II-listed Selfridges building on Oxford Street has been a British institution since its doors first opened in 1909. Designed by American architect Daniel Burnham, its traditional external styling hides a more modern steel structure. When a new restaurant was planned, some of the building’s famous bronze-framed windows – some as tall as 8m - needed to be restored and adapted. With our specialist expertise, construction managers Sir Robert McAlpine commissioned TRC to undertake the 6-week contract.

Harrods is close to unveiling the first phase of a £200 million overhaul ordered by its new Qatari owners. The listed building status meant that Harrods executives had to consult English Heritage on almost every aspect of the restoration. The installation of the escalator by Make architects has allowed windows to be reopened that had been bricked up since the Eighties, TRC carried out the refurbishment of these windows which included replacing the existing glass to a bomb and solar reflective type, full decoration internal and external along with replacing and refurbishing the existing ironmongery.

Thanks to our long-standing relationship with Berkeley Homes, TRC was appointed to undertake a three-year project of refurbishment work to 150 centre pivot sash windows, plus doors. We stripped the existing painted windows and repaired the decayed timber. Due to the listed status, we sought to retain and repair as much of the original timber as possible. Where replacement joinery was necessary, we were able to source matching air-dried Douglas Fir (as stipulated by the conservation officer), which had been reclaimed from another heritage project.

The Shetland Gas plant (SGP) represents a 25bn investment by Total in Shetland to service the Laggan and Tormore gas fields. The site was covered by a large peat bog that needed preserving for reinstatement at the end of life decommissioning. The solution was to build two peat stores in the slopes which were to be overtopped to allow water to peculate through. ABG recommended Pozidrain 12S500/NW8 in place of stone enabling the maximum void space to be utilised for peat storage. Erosaweb GWX 150/300 was used for soil reinforcement providing a native environment for flora and fauna.

Bunjil Place is a community and civic building located just outside of Melbourne in Narre Warren, Australia. A cavernous foyer links these different spaces, whilst an emblematic roof shelters the community from the noise and pollution of the nearby highway. Connecting these two elements is the centrepiece of the building: a descending wooden ‘eagle’ made from 90 strands of Prodema timber. This eagle overlooks the different strands of life that pass through Bunjil Place every day. The undulating white and timber ribbons in the foyer further demonstrate the flowing and interconnected nature of this vibrant community space.

Selfridges is one the UK’s most famous high-end department stores founded in 1908. It’s Grade II listed flagship store is located on London’s Oxford Street. Buzon UK were commissioned to supply and install over 200sqm of the Buzon ALUrail and pedestal system to the newly renovated roof terrace area. The ALUrail installation system offers a complete structure for the raised installation of outdoor spaces. The system can be used for various substrates, 20mm porcelain, concrete and natural stone pavers. Practical and functional, the ALUrail system can be used where the void is limited.

Three variations of Proteus HR panels – VM Quartz (grey) and VM Anthra (black) in zinc and polyester powder coated aluminium in anthracite grey – feature as rainscreen cladding elements on the first two phases of Greenwich Wharf. Architecture has played an important role in the life of Greenwich since Tudor times when Henry Vlll and his two daughters who followed as monarchs, Mary and Elizabeth, were born at Greenwich Palace. When this fell into disrepair, Queen Anne commissioned Sir Christopher Wren to build a refuge for naval men.

A Grade II listed Royal George building in Knutsford was sympathetically restored to create a stunning dining venue for the Loch Fyne brand. During the restoration project, contractor A&J Interiors specified 4 of Howe Green’s 5000 Series floor access covers. The covers were required to provide an unobtrusive access solution to cover the kitchen’s essential mains services whilst maintaining fast and easy access for maintenance or emergency repairs. Blending seamlessly with the flooring the covers avoid distortion and prevent the risk of slips and trips – essential within a busy kitchen environment.

Two five-panel BSF70 bi-folds installed on the front of the garden room open out from the centre, while the pool area features a single, nine-panel bi-fold which opens up one way from right to left to create a seamless link between inside and out. There are also two further five-panel BSF70 bi-folds installed at the end of the building and working as a divider between the two separate zones. All the doors are in Anthracite Grey throughout, double glazed with black, warm edge spacer bars.

The grade two listed Victorian castle features a statement herringbone floor design made up of Da Vinci planks in three contrasting oak colourways - American Oak, Fresco Light Oak and Natural Oak - and matching bespoke 36” x 3” white block colour plank and tile combination in the dedicated kitchen and break-out area.

The Metro Centre is over 22 years old and the building had been experiencing leaks, a problem which was exacerbated by the numerous changes in plant installations on the roof. The original felt waterproofing had reached the end of its working life and a system was required that would keep the building watertight, help comply with current building regulations, and bring the insulation standards up to Part L. A Cold Bonded Built-Up Roofing System was specified for the project consisting of 40mm Decotherm insulation, a Carrier Membrane, and a seamless Decothane Gamma 20 waterproof ‘cap sheet’.

When sourcing hard landscaping for the development, Leonard Design Architects required attractive and modern paving for patios and car parking. However, they faced issues with the external areas due to the sloping site conditions. Tobermore’ Secura Grand Retaining Wall provided the solution to the sloping site issues while Tobermore Fusion block paving in contemporary tones of silver, mid grey, and graphite created the desired contemporary look.

The Gunnery, Kent is a unique and interesting project. Delta Membranes were appointed as Waterproofing Designer to transform an unused fort/home in Kingsdown, Kent. The building was situated 92ft on a cliff edge. The Gunnery was originally a military base with extended underground rooms and thought to have ‘secret rooms’ underground. The building had suffered from fire damage as well as vandalism over the years and had been left to ruin. During a site visit various considerations were given to what Delta product would be best suited to the job, given the restrictions imposed by the existing structure.

The new £75 million Murray Royal Hospital, Perth was officially opened by Scotland’s First Minister Alex Salmond last year. The hospital provides state-of-the-art mental healthcare for adults from across Tayside. Franke supplied all manner of janitorial and healthcare washroom products to the project. Specification was exacting to ensure long and efficient product life and savings in water and energy use. Products from Franke Washroom Systems have included; an array of differing formats of HTM63 stainless steels sinks and worktops, disposal and janitorial units.

WMOR Architects completely redesigned the ground floor to include a flexible living area to open into the garden. Accoya was chosen as the ideal material for the extension because of it aesthetic appearance as well as its ability to provide better insulation than other materials. & the owners wanted to use the most sustainable material they could. The Accoya extension which houses the show piece kitchen will be left to weather naturally and match the pale grey flooring. This was specifically designed so that in the summer, when the sliding door completely opens, the interior & exterior space will merge seamlessly.

After extensive consultation with all involved, the design they created to achieve this involved an eye-catching arrangement of Russwood’s factory-coated Accoya cladding. Edd Rushton, the architect in charge of the project said, “Painted Accoya profiles provided a durable and cost-effective way of bringing new life to a tired 1970’s façade and creating a vibrant new public face for the school. Russwood supplied pre-coated Accoya cladding panels, as well as thicker profiles used in the louvred sun-screen, and offered specification and detailing advice throughout the project.”

Located inside in Reading, Fora have opened their first flexible workspace outside of London. Planet worked with ISG and Piercy & Co on the internal glazing requirements for the new location. Planet’s LOFT54 partitioning was specified for the rentable meeting rooms and offices. The demountable partitioning was paired with Planet’s IsoTec doorsets which are a perfect aesthetic match for the LOFT system. LOFT100 was used for the first and second floor meeting rooms, due to its excellent acoustic ratings. The glazing consists of two layers of glass, 12.8mm and 14.8mm, which combined reached a 54dB Rw rating.

Staff, parents and pupils at a Hull primary school joined forces to give a piece of community art a new lease of life. A large-scale mural at Thoresby Primary School has been restored back to its former glory with support from Crown Paints. The works were carried out across a weekend as part of a transformation of the school’s outdoor area for pupils. Hayley Potts, of Thoresby Primary School, said: “The mural plays a central part in celebrating our school’s history and the children felt passionately about improving and updating it.
