MIne Tailings Capping and Drainage - Pozidrain SKL and Erosaweb, Carrshield MIne Works, UK

ABG creative geosynthetic engineering

The Barneycraig Lead mine located in the North Pennines operated between 1760-1920. Due to mine tailings being deposited on the River West Allen it became the second worst river by Northumbria River Basin Management. A plan to improve the river meant the tailings needed to be capped to prevent rain water infiltration. Stabilisation of the dam was also required. ABG proposed Pozidrain 4SKL, this provided a rapidly installed single layer system without compriising on containment. Erosaweb GWX was used on the 1:2.5 slope for soil reinforcement and this was fixed with a non piercing fixing solution.

Easy Glass Pro glass railing - Museum Vlaardingen (NL)

Q-railing

In Vlaardingen Museum, the Netherlands, old meets new. The use of concrete, aluminium and glass creates a powerful sense of open space and transparency. The many level changes and loft-like spaces meant it was important to find a balustrade solution unobstructed by a conventional handrail or metal grip. The Easy Glass Pro structural glass balustrade offered the ability to make fine adjustments to the positioning of each glass panel from the installation side – invaluable when being installed on the various sections of finished concrete flooring levels.
Easy Glass Pro glass balustrade - Spanish university building

Easy Glass Pro glass balustrade - Spanish university building

Q-railing

The design of the new University of Gibraltar building emphasises transparency and openness while retaining the integrity of the historic structure. Glazed facades and glass balustrades are positioned in striking contrast with original structures such as brick vaults. Fusing a historic fabric with modern design elements presented numerous challenges. It required close cooperation between Q-railing and the architect. In all the glass balustrade systems, they needed to achieve a demanding resistance parameter, in accordance with British Standards. Q-railing provided the Easy Glass Pro structural glass railing and constructed and tested the balustrade, certifying values required by Building Control.

St Winefride’s Catholic Church, 15 Well Street, Holywell

Keim Mineral Paints Ltd

St Winefride’s Catholic Church in Holywell is a Grade II listed building and was the first church in the UK to be administered by the Vocationist Fathers. The smooth internal plastered surfaces were originally painted with KEIM Mineral Paints, which had performed very well however there were a few issues that required attention prior to redecoration. There was a water ingress issue in the naive, which was repaired, and small areas of mould growth were visible that were treated using KEIM Algicid. KEIM Optil was applied over the prepared surfaces to provide a long-life, durable finish.
Riversfield, Ellon

Riversfield, Ellon

Keim Mineral Paints Ltd

Riversfield is a large detached Grade B listed town house. This property had severe contamination of moss and algae. We recommended that the climbing plants and wall shrubs to be moved away from the surfaces prior to the decoration of KEIM. We then advised that any existing fungal growth must be thoroughly removed using wire brushes to remove all growths and then all areas were to be treated with KEIM Algicid. Onto the cement based, roughcast surfaces, a three coat KEIM Royalan system was used to provide a colourfast, longlife, breathable, protective and decorative mineral matt finish.
GYPSOL High Thermal Conductivity in refurbishment

GYPSOL High Thermal Conductivity in refurbishment

LKAB Minerals

Following detailed technical and commercial discussions the Gypsol team were able to provide a cost effective and practical alternative to the original specification using Gypsol HTC screed and a Thermoplane underfloor heating system. Gypsol HTC, having a thermal conductivity of 2.5w/mK was selected due to its high level of thermal performance especially when combined with underfloor heating. The unique mix design of Gypsol HTC screed allows the installer to place the material at just 20mm cover to the underfloor heating pipes allowing an overall depth of just 40mm of screed through the entire project
Gypsol Screed Precompletion Sound Testing

Gypsol Screed Precompletion Sound Testing

LKAB Minerals

This scheme comprised 3 blocks of apartments each having 3 stories requiring a total of just over 3000 square meters of screed. As the client was in control of the design he called upon the expertise of our technical team to help him to decide the best route and the most cost effective design. He opted for pre-completion sound testing which allowed him to design the floors in such a way as to mitigate the costs of the testing. Our specification manager advised Gypsol Classic screed as the most cost effective and appropriate material and completed a NBS specification.
Gypsol Flowing Screed Helps recover proram for 50 bed care home

Gypsol Flowing Screed Helps recover proram for 50 bed care home

LKAB Minerals

The main contractor, with many years’ experience of building bespoke care homes throughout the UK has successfully used flowing screeds in their projects for over a decade. This project was to be no exception and the main contractor needed advice on before finalizing the specification. The screed was to be placed on insulation at both ground and first floor underfloor heating systems. It needed to be as thin as possible. It needed to be installed quickly because, time scales were tight. Finally it needed to offer a rapid drying time to allow completion of floor coverings.
Gypsol HTC Thermal Screed Increases Efficiency

Gypsol HTC Thermal Screed Increases Efficiency

LKAB Minerals

This case study features a high energy efficiency home built to achieve Code Level 6 under the code for sustainable homes. It included features such as photo voltaic roof tiles, solar panels and a low temperature ground source heat pump. The client required underfloor heating at both the ground floor and the first floor level which was to be supported with a standard concrete beam and block sub floor. The designer required a screed which could offer a rapid response to changes in the air temperature within the house both in terms of heating and cooling.
Gypsol HTC proves perfect for underfloor heating

Gypsol HTC proves perfect for underfloor heating

LKAB Minerals

The client also needed a screed with high thermal conductivity in order to optimize the efficiency of the underfloor heating system and to minimize energy use. Gypsol HTC, having a thermal conductivity of 2.5W/mK and a low mass due to its thin section enabling a rapid response to changes in air temperature, met all of the requirements of both architect and client. The building program also required the 750m2 of screed to be installed in a single pour. The chosen supplier therefore had to be capable of supplying the 33 cubic metre supply continuously during the pour.
GYPSOL Classic used in Code 6 development

GYPSOL Classic used in Code 6 development

LKAB Minerals

The designer required a screed which could offer a rapid response to changes in the air temperature within the house both in terms of heating and cooling. Additionally it had to offer a thin section to reduce material use and to help reduce the physical mass of screed that had to be warmed. This was to help with achieving efficiency with the ground source heat pump and allow the unit to heat the screed at very low temperatures. It also required a screed that could be easily placed at both ground and first floor. Gypsol Classic was the perfect solution.
