Sandpit Lane | Stylish modern extension to suburban detached home - St Albans, Hertfordshire


Architect: Harvey Norman Architects. Having returned home after years of working abroad the owners of this 1970s house chose to extend the property to make better use of the internal space and to breakdown the divide between the house and the garden. The design centred on a single storey pitched roof extension with large IDSystems' theEDGE2.0 sliding doors and fixed frame gable end glazing that transformed the layout of the home, creating a large open plan living space that included a kitchen, dining and lounge space.

Alleyn Road | Innovative extension of South London home


Architect: Simon Whitehead Architects This extension and renovation to a detached house in South London has completely transformed the living space by creating open plan rooms filled with light thanks to the innovative use of windows and sliding doors. The centrepiece of the works was a single storey ground floor extension that extended the kitchen and usable living space, whilst connecting the house with the garden thanks to a corner opening set of IDSystems' Grand Slider II aluminium sliding doors and a large fixed frame picture window.

Polyflor Bloc flooring makes a statement in architects’ studio

Polyflor commercial vinyl flooring from the Bloc collection was recently chosen to add a splash of colour to Rivington Street Studio architectural practice in London. Rivington Street Studio specialises in architectural and landscaping projects for the education, housing, leisure, commercial and public sectors. The Soft Moss shade from the Bloc range adds earthiness and warmth to the otherwise minimalistic interior. The green shade was fitted by local contractors Abbotts Flooring throughout the open plan office, meeting rooms and the communal kitchen.

Coopers FireMaster Concertina is a great way to offer compartmentation between areas like a kitchen and restaurant and able to divide up these two critical areas in a public building and act as a fire break. By installing the FireMaster Concertina meant it would provide the building with an approved, non-invasive means of fire protection that would satisfy the fire regulations as well as ensuring that the open plan design remained as intended. Compartmentation and Protected Means of Escape were required as part of the fire safety solutions.

A magnificent steel screen takes centre stage in this refurbished home

This spectacular Victorian home in the market town of Epping has been recently redesigned by Cherie Lee Interiors. Part of their client's brief was to design every space with visibility and access to the garden and with this in mind, an immense 5 metre wide steel and glass partition was incorporated into the plans, to divide the hallway and open plan kitchen. The bespoke screen includes 18 panes of glass and a feature kick panel along the bottom. Pyroswiss 30 minute integrity glass was used to increase fire protection. Design: Cherie Lee Interiors. Getting by with little is architect Leonardo Di Chiara’s modus operandi. With his tiny house, the young Italian architect made a dream come true: he can travel across the country independently with his own four walls. His transportable home comprises just 9 square meters but includes all the necessities, even including some luxury in the form of a “rooftop terrace.” The founder of Tinyhouse University in Italy relied on the HAWA Concepta 25 pivot/slide-in hardware system for his kitchen doors.

Rusholme | Light-filled South West London extension and remodel - Putney, London


Architect: Simon Gill Architects. The brief for this project in Putney was to modernise the ground floor of this red-brick detached house, create a larger dining room and better connect the inside of the home with the garden. The end result is a complete transformation. Gone are the compressed spaces and smaller rooms and in their place is a large open-plan living area with seamless connection between the lounge, kitchen and dining room. These open plan spaces are filled with natural light thanks to a combination of Grand Slider II sliding doors and huge fixed frame picture windows.

ROCKFON refurbish Leeds City College campus to BREEAM standards


Leeds City College, the third largest further education college in the UK, has opened a new city-centre campus to offer modern-day vocational study programmes. The campus is a £14 million new build extension and refurbishment of a Grade II listed building into a state-of-the-art specialist vocational centre with training kitchens, a commercial training restaurant, hair and beauty teaching facilities and commercial salons as well as a refectory, library and student services. Being a refurbishment project, the build had a number of challenges.

WMOR Architects completely redesigned the ground floor to include a flexible living area to open into the garden. Accoya was chosen as the ideal material for the extension because of it aesthetic appearance as well as its ability to provide better insulation than other materials. & the owners wanted to use the most sustainable material they could. The Accoya extension which houses the show piece kitchen will be left to weather naturally and match the pale grey flooring. This was specifically designed so that in the summer, when the sliding door completely opens, the interior & exterior space will merge seamlessly.

With a combination of solid oak natural and kaolin laminate furniture, this bulthaup b3 kitchen sits at the centre of a large living space in a new-build family home in Jersey. With two islands, one for main preparation and one for secondary prep and informal dining it was designed for a busy family who love to cook and entertain. The raised bar top was ‘bespoke’ manufactured in the bulthaup factory from solid oak strips. This beautiful period semi-detached terrace house in South London had been lived in for many years by the same owners. Over the years a few changes had been introduced but the whole house needed an ‘update’. The rear extension was rebuilt to complement the original building, adding large doors to the garden and skylights to bring in plenty of daylight. The result is a large family kitchen/dinning/living area with heaps of space and flexibility. The architects, Martins Camisuli, chose Istoria Bespoke Porto Oak Rustic to run throughout the ground floor renovation.

With the help of Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen, founder of money.co.uk, Chris Morling has been successful in his mission of creating the ultimate workspace for his Cirencester-based independent comparison website’s headquarters. The grade two listed Victorian castle features a statement herringbone floor design made up of Da Vinci planks in three contrasting oak colourways - American Oak, Fresco Light Oak and Natural Oak - and matching bespoke 36” x 3” white block colour plank and tile combination in the dedicated kitchen and break-out area.

Affinity255 luxury vinyl tiles add style to new cocktail bar

Heavy commercial Affinity255 PUR luxury vinyl tiles from Polyflor were recently chosen to complete the stylish interior design scheme at The LiquorLab, a new cocktail bar at the Southwater development in Telford, Shropshire. The LiquorLab is Southwater’s first cocktail bar, with a laidback, industrial inspired design scheme created by local commercial kitchen and interior fit out company Catering Centre UK. Affinity255 PUR luxury vinyl tiles in the Huckleberry Oak shade were installed in the lounge, seating and bar areas to create an inviting space for customers to socialise in.

Polyflor flooring chosen for Country Buddies Childcare Centre

Professional Colour Consultant and Interior Designer Lynne Mewett of Creative Ambience specified Polyflor flooring throughout Country Buddies Childcare Centre and designed all the shapes set into the floors, including the waterjet design featuring a stork carrying a child in reception. The flooring was installed by Bigger Floorworld. Lynne chose Classic Mystique and Pearlazzo homogeneous flooring in a range of colours for the play rooms, corridors and reception area. Polysafe Astral and Polysafe Verona were used for areas where sustainable wet slip resistance was required, such as the kitchens, the laundry and children’s toilets.

The sky’s the limit for Polyflor flooring at Imperial War Museum

High performance sheet flooring from Polyflor was used to create a statement design floor in The Armoury Café and Kitchen at the Imperial War Museum Duxford in Cambridgeshire. Designed by London based SHH Architecture & Interior Design, this refurbished restaurant area at Britain’s largest aviation museum features a monochrome floor design which was created using 300 m² of Polyflor’s Classic Mystique PUR vinyl flooring. Installed by flooring contractors Key Floors, the Smokestone, Nocturne and Quartz shades form concentric circles that echo the Royal Air Force logo.

When Booking.com decided to move their offices to a prime location in Central London, they required a full fit-out. They appointed HLW International, who specified Billi Taps for their main kitchen area, and another tea-point within the office space. Booking.com opted for Billi Quadra Plus 15. With a drainage font in chrome and a gloss finish, the tap delivers instant boiling and chilled water from an XL lever tap at just a touch of a finger, and hot and ambient from a second sink mixer tap – all this from a single under counter boiler unit.

Parkeray’s new HQ at 24 King William Street is an open-plan office space, offering their employees a great space for collaborative working and client’s meetings. They were looking for a high-capacity under-counter system with a matching mixer tap to complement their stylish kitchen space, suitable for bottle filling as well. Parkeray went ahead with two of the Billi Quadra Sparkling Plus in Matte Black with matching drainage fonts, providing boiling and chilled filtered water and paddle mixer taps, dispensing hot and cold filtered water to the impressive new office space.

This bulthaup b3 kitchen in a chic, Knightsbridge penthouse incorporates a smart dining space for entertaining. Matt lacquer in Kaolin was chosen for the island and tall furniture to allow for a light fresh aesthetic. Pocket doors conceal all of the functional storage and appliances so they are out of sight but handy when needed. The rough-sawn, oak furniture on the rear wall is suspended from the b3 framework so that it 'floats' above the floor - our designer worked closely with Lab Architects on detailing the porcelain feature wall cladding around the structure. Townhouse complex Berlin Mitte Hafenquartier Berlin Mitte was created between 2008 and 2012 as a townhouse complex with eleven residential units, constructed for Agromex GmbH & Co. KG based on a design by the architectural firm of Behzadi & Partner. Based on the developer's plan, both the interior and exterior design primarily used natural, durable, and regionally sourced materials. For the bathrooms as well as the kitchens and entry areas the architects opted for Mosa tiles from the Terra Beige&Brown and Terra Maestricht collections, which had already proven themselves in various other projects.

Polyflor flooring helps create stunning new homes in Bridgend

Polyflor’s vinyl flooring was recently installed at Wales & West Housing’s new social housing development in the popular seaside town of Porthcawl, Bridgend. Around 2500m² of Polyflor flooring was installed by Artisan Flooring of Swansea to help create 40 brand new, affordable homes at New Road Court which has been built by local construction company Jehu in partnership with Bridgend County Borough Council and the Welsh Government. Polyflor’s Secura PUR flooring in the bold Antique Herringbone 2129 design was installed throughout the apartments in kitchens, corridors, bedrooms and living spaces.

Breezefree's 115 square metre retractable canopy at the Restaurant and Bar Design Awards

The Farmiloe Building, with its faded Victorian industrial charm, was last year’s venue for celebrating and awarding innovative design across the hospitality industry. This fascinating Grade II Listed building made an exciting venue for the 5th anniversary of the Restaurant & Bar Design Awards. Attended by over 600 leading international architects, designers and operators, the architecture and engineering of the Farmiloe Building was complemented by five uniquely designed ‘Box Project’ spaces, each conceived by dedicated teams for the Awards, and where Breezefree’s 115sqm retractable canopy created a striking counterpart to Nicholas Alexander Creative Construction’s theatrical alfresco kitchen area.

Crown Trade takes redecoration to the next degree

Crown Trade products are providing the University of East London with a trusted route to transform student accommodation for the new academic year under a comprehensive redecoration programme. Crown Trade Steracryl Mould Inhibiting Matt Paint, Crown Trade Clean Extreme Scrubbable Matt and Crown Trade Fastflow Quick Dry Gloss are all being applied as part of the refurbishment of 57 dormitories and associated kitchen areas at the university’s Docklands Campus. Consisting of an individual bedroom and private bathroom, the dormitories - part of the Redbridge Student Accommodation - are in the transition from term time to summer school programmes.

The Tramshed EC2, London

Howe Green’s 5000 Series access covers were chosen by interior specialists, Tekne Shopfitting Limited to provide access in The Tramshed, a Grade II listed building in London. The aluminium access covers were selected to provide a reliable route to essential underfloor building services in the Tramshed’s public washrooms and busy kitchens. Ensuring an excellent aesthetic finish, Tekne fitted four covers and inlaid each frame with resin flooring to match the surrounding area. The covers were double-sealed for use over foul drainage, with a third seal fitted to help prevent the ingress of dirt.

Clapton Villa | Green-roofed, timber clad extension to a Victorian villa - Clapton, London


Architect: Scenario Architecture. This beautiful Victorian villa received an innovative green-roofed extension full of natural light thanks to IDSystems installed bifold doors, gable end glazing, rooflights, window and door. The challenge for Scenario Architecture was to design an extension that was filled full of natural light, took into account the changing floor levels of the property. Under the pitched roof, the gable end glazing has been designed to perfectly match the profiles of the SUNFLEX SF75 bifold doors, whilst the inclusion of a single access door allows the extension to angle away to create a larger kitchen/dining area.

The new Pavilion Bar and Grill is part of a five-year, DEFRA-funded, estate strategy, to regenerate buildings within the UNESCO World Heritage Kew Gardens. Ryder associate, Ruth Baker, said “Heradesign panels were a significant part of the interior design, we particularly liked the sustainable quality of the material and the unlimited colour options.” Heradesign panels were specified for the ceilings to absorb sound and minimise disturbance in the open plan eating area and kitchen. Heradesign’s natural raw wood wool texture and colour complemented the bold black steel finish, rational grid and use of glass.

Polyflor heads to the seaside for fish and chip shop makeover

Heavy commercial Affinity255 PUR luxury vinyl tiles in the Cross Sawn Timber, Aspen Pine and Flamed Chestnut designs were installed to the restaurant floor by local contractors Pro-Spec Interiors Ltd . Polysafe Apex safety flooring in the Breccia and Chromite shades was used in the back of house kitchen areas, behind the bar and around the takeaway servery.

P C Henderson’s Rustic Sliding Barn Door Hardware Used in Home Renovation

P C Henderson's Rustic 80 sliding barn door hardware has recently been specified for a home renovation of a period property in Kent. The 11 month renovation included a complete rewire, full house re-plaster, a full damp-proof course, new heating and plumbing system and a new kitchen and bathroom. The couple also required some sliding door hardware for the properties bedroom and bathroom doors. Our Rustic sliding barn door hardware was identified as the best solution for the project due to its beautifully crafted barn style hangers and rustic effect.

This project had incredibly restricted access, where the client wanted a green roof on an existing bitumen rooftop overlooked by hotel rooms. The M-Trays® had to be transported on a trolley through the hotel kitchens. They were winched onto the roof itself using a genie lift and slotted into position in a matter of hours. Trying to construct a roll-out green roof was impossible, given the restricted access. Installation was fast and effective, taking only a day and giving an instant green roof. M-Tray® dramatically improved the view from the rooms and improved the guests’ experience.

Welsh Slate tops the menu at Clifton College

Two types of Welsh Slate roofing slates have helped breathe new life into the stunning Grade II listed dining hall of a top independent school. A total of 15,000 of Welsh Slate’s rectangular Cwt y Bugail and arrow-head Penrhyn Heather Blue slates now feature on the duo-pitch roof at Clifton College in Bristol. The three-storey dining hall/kitchen, which is one of, if not the biggest building in a cluster of stunning Victorian constructions, had not been re-roofed since it was built 156 years ago to a design by architect Charles Hansom.
