South East Water Reservoir - Kent

The reservoir had an estimated 180 metres of cracks that needed repair, as well as the main element of the concrete that required coating to waterproof and add durability to the concrete structure. The Reservoir was taken out of commission but it needed to be returned to service as soon as possible. To do this, we looked at the order of the processes to ensure the tight time frames could be met.
Acoustic solutions for new build apartment building, Kent
Hush Acoustics
Hush Acoustics provided a range of acoustic products for the construction of Warren Court, a new development of 9x luxury two bedroom apartments. Working with Marlowe Building Contractors, we provided advice and materials for the apartments’ soundproofing to give acoustic performance better than New Build standard.The Standard Assessment Procedure (SAP) energy ratings had already been calculated and passed before Hush were involved with the acoustic design. The building’s structure consisted of lightweight masonry walls and a timber joist floor structure, which could not be changed due to SAP compliance. As a result, Hush was tasked with developing a comprehensive design to ensure compliance to Approved Document E of the Building Regulations with this form of construction detail. The biggest issue was the continuous lightweight block walls that may be thermally very efficient, but present major difficulties acoustically. To go over and above the new build standard, it was necessary for all blockwork and timber floor joists to be isolated on Hush Resilient Seating. Ceilings were also isolated by using Hush Suspended Ceilings in the main and an Enhanced Clip and Channel System was used where the floor/ceiling heights were at a premium. Hush Panel 28 was provided throughout as the floating acoustic flooring system.We carried out pre-completion sound tests which achieved results well in excess of the new build standard. Airborne sound test results ranged from 49 dB (DnTw+Ctr) to 61 dB (DnTw+Ctr) and impact achieved 46 dB (LnTw), 16 dB better than the required new build standard.

Originally built in 1871, the school was initially designed to house 140 pupils, but in recent years has undergone development to improve and modernise facilities. In 2017 the school, with support from the parents, purchased 0.65 acres of land.
We supplied 106 metres of 1.8 metre high EuroGuard® Regular to secure the perimeter of the new outdoor learning area. To accommodate for the sloping ground, our EuroGuard® Regular panels were stepped to keep a continual height along the perimeter to ensure there are no vulnerable points. The EuroGuard® Regular mesh panels were polyester powder coated Black RAL 9005.

The aluminium has been used for all the ridges, verges, fascia's and soffit to continue the minimalistic crisp edge finish.

From the renovated walled gardens to the nature walk and playgrounds around the development, this prime location has it all covered.Whilst predominantly a modern new build development, the site contains a number of historically significant Grade II Listed buildings which are being retained and converted into new residential housing. The existing buildings including the Clock Tower, Gardeners Cottage, and the stunning Manor House are to be reimagined internally creating stunning exclusive residential homes. As a condition of planning consent and in line with local conservation conditions, these buildings are to be brought back into use and repaired in a sympathetic manner, ensuring that the original character and heritage of the buildings are maintained.Arden windows, as a key part of Taylor Wimpey’s supply chain for timber windows and doors, were approached by Taylor Wimpey and their architects with the brief to develop a truly bespoke window solution. One that not only meets the conservation requirements in terms of aesthetics of the windows and doors, but that also meet the current UK building regulation requirements and NHBC standards. Working from the architect’s detail drawings and photographs of original fenestrations and section details, the Arden design team were able to recreate an almost identical window and door solution fully meeting the conservation aspects of the project. The final product reflects the intricate profile sections and glazing bar details whilst also achieving the thermal and security requirements of the project.Arden manufactures windows and doors from engineered softwoods and hardwoods at their state of the art factory in Coventry. The 73,000 sq ft production unit incorporates leading-edge fully adaptable CNC machinery alongside time served skilled craftsmen, a winning combination that allows them to produce fully bespoke products on a volume scale.

When Brexit terms were finally decided in 2020, the end to the freedom and movement of EU goods was agreed to begin from the 1st January 2021. HMRC therefore required an Inland Border Facility to be urgently mobilised to perform the new series of checks required on HGVs crossing the UK Border at the Port of Dover and the Channel Tunnel. This site acts as a location for checking movements of goods inbound (Defra and HMRC) and outbound (HMRC only).Each location is to include parking areas for HGVs and other vehicles, with security measures and facilities to enable the checking of vehicles and goods entering and exiting the sites. There are also temporary office buildings, staff and driver welfare amenities.The design of the facility onto 48ha of former agricultural land was developed with a view to maintaining the landscape and biodiversity of the surrounding area and to screen views of the site from the local villages.Excavated materials were sustainably reused as part of this process in order to create bunds, whilst surface water drainage of the site is directed to local wildlife ponds and wetlands via 30,000 square metres of aggregate filled Truckcell cellular paving.The site is trafficked by up to 950 HGVs at any one time and provides a free-draining, sustainable and durable SuDS surface to withstand the traffic levels without damage or abrasion.Throughout the project, ABG’s in house technical team provided design guidance and site installation support for the customer. Truckcell is a heavy duty cellular paving system manufactured from 100% recycled and recyclable plastic, capable of sustaining frequent HGV loads up to GVW 60 and 10 tonne wheels loads. It can be filled with angular gravel (as was the case on this project) or topsoil and grass seeded, according to the application.

The full sized bollards that are used as post uprights give a sense of solidity and permanence, whilst the mitred top gives them just enough of a decorative nature to lift the product beyond a simple post and handrail job. In this project all welds and interfaces were polished back on site so the finished product becomes a complete unit with no visible fixings. With both double and single handrails over multiple flights and angles, this project shows how ASF can manage any project need.

The grilles were manufactured in grade 316 stainless steel and supplied with a brush polished finish which offers that classic stainless steel sheen whilst being a robust enough finish to minimise marking up and discoloration.
