Located on the banks of the River Kelvin inGlasgow’s west end, Kelvin Hall was one of thelargest exhibition centres in the UK when firstconstructed back in 1927. Famously hostingmany major concerts in the 1960’s and 70’s,this iconic building was converted in 1987 tohouse Glasgow’s Museum of Transport and theKelvin Hall International Sports Arena until itsclosure in 2010.McLaughlin & Harvey Construction and Page\Park Architects were appointed to undertakethis extensive and ambitious refurbishmentproject which provided a demanding setof challenges - particularly regarding thepreservation of Kelvin Hall’s internal heritagefeatures and the original concrete shell in itsentirety.Ideal for new build and refurbishment projects,a Kalzip® standing seam liner roof system wasspecified for the task. Able to withstand highwind uplift and with excellent resistance toclimatic conditions, the lightweight Kalzip®system is extremely durable and has aminimum design life of over 40 years.

Material and system specification used: Kalzip FC rainscreen in 500mm wide RAL 1035 pearl Beige and RAL 7022 – also Kalzip wall perforated        Stephenson Quarter is a major mixed-use development in the heart of Newcastle upon Tyne by the Clouston Group. The site was home to the Robert Stephenson and Co. Locomotive Works, the crucible of the railway industry, where the revolutionary Rocket was built in 1829. The site includes the new Crowne Plaza Hotel and The Rocket (offices) plus Stephenson qtr Car park   Installation of over 1500 m2 of FC rainscreen cladding to the Rocket building in RAL 7022 and RAL 1035 Pearl Beige in between stone cladding on the Crown Plaza Hotel Kalzip Perforated facade was used to create a feature between the main brick work for the car park Key challenges overcome:  With 3 phases of the project to undertake over a period of 18 months. Working at height in a very tight, exposed city centre location, needed a high quality over-cladding solution with neat joints that was quick and easy to install. The product needed to integrate with the window system and other cladding facade materials   

Elliptical on plan and angled in profile, The SSE Hydro’s domed roof required over 12,750 sqm of naturally curved tapered Kalzip® sheets in lengths of up to 25 metres installed in six concentric, almost circular bands. The façade of this amphitheatre-inspired building is 15 metres high at the rear rising to 33 metres at the south-facing front elevation with the central apex of the roof being 45 metres above ground level.

The striking appearance of this unique landmark building is a visual reference to the old Whitchurch Airport that formerly occupied the site and the design reflects the two hemispheres of the brain as the four-storey structure comprises twin sections located either side of a spacious central atrium linked by bridges at each level.

With risingsales in 27 countries, made almost exclusively via the internet, the company hassimply outgrown its current premises, and had to look at expanding its facilitiesto cope with future growth. BestSecret, the company‘s E-commerce subsidiary,in particular is in need of larger premises, with continual need to grow andexpand their facilities to cope with growing customer demand. For this reason,the company made the decision to relocate its headquarters to the newlydeveloped commercial district of Grub in Poing near Munich, and build newadministrative offices with adjoining logistics centre.

The impact a school provides starts from its outside appearance. This allows the pupils, parents and teachers to maintain a positive attitude about where they study and work creating a positive vibe. This often follows suit internally with design as well as the performance of a school feeling proud to be part of. The choice of material required was initially zinc but we also needed to ensure the product was as light as possible, we therefore proposed Falzinc which is a Zinc coated Aluminium.

ChallengeKalzip were tasked, alongside contractors Lakesmere, to develop a roofing structure that would be vital to the overall appearance of the building and one that would fulfil the stringent acoustic criteria – whilst working to tight deadlines.SolutionFollowing extensive testing, Knauf Insulation Rocksilk® RS45 product in 50mm and 75mm were specified within the 40,000m2 Kalzip System in the AluPlusPatina finish.Heathrow’s new Terminal 2, also known as The Queen’s Terminal, boasts exceptional architectural design and is 40% more carbon efficient than the previous building. Kalzip’s large waveform roof bestows one of the iconic features of the terminal.A multi-layer approach was taken when it came to installing Knauf Insulation Rocksilk® RS45. By layering the insulation products in different densities across the Kalzip standing seam roof, rigorous sound absorption and sound transmission measures were met, whilst retaining the form and functionality required by the designers.As a robust, resilient and dense Rock Mineral Wool insulation slab, Knauf Insulation Rocksilk® RS45 has excellent acoustic properties that help to reduce the impact of airborne and rain impact noise. It also has an excellent thermal conductivity of 0.035W/mK, helping to provide passengers with a comfortable environment.

Neaco’s roof walkway system has been installed at world's largest single standing seam roofing project at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The $100 million development includes the airport’s new terminal building, railway station, air traffic control centre and the main fire and rescue facility, requiring a combination of straight, tapered and curved roofs with high acoustic and thermal performance specifications. The development involved the construction of 350,000 square metres of Kalzip standing seam roofing - the largest single Kalzip project ever undertaken – which includes Neaco’s aluminium open grille walkways and associated handrails.

Network Rail has redeveloped the 180-yearold London Bridge station – the fourth busiest station in the country with over 54 million passengers passing through every year. To redevelop such a vast, complex site Network Rail required a team that would work together with one goal in mind and add value by presenting viable solutions. Eurosafe chose the MSA Latchways Constant Force Post (CFP) cable system for a complete rooftop fall protection solution. It is the only system approved by Kalzip, who supplied the roof at London Bridge.
