fermacell helps School of Architecture get creative

There’s no greater accolade for a building products manufacturer than being specified by architects for architects, and that is exactly what specialist partitioning board supplier fermacell achieved at the University of Portsmouth. The £ 9 million building comprises large lecture theatre, seminar room, café and shop over the ground and first floors, and open-plan offices for academic and administrative staff and a post-graduate centre on the upper floors via floor plans which are easily divided and flexible.

Heriot-Watt is a specialist university, renowned for its innovative research. The James Watt Building, in the Edinburgh campus, has recently undergone a number of improvements, with one of the more notable changes being the addition of new hardwood flooring. Atkinson & Kirby’s Engineered Oak range of flooring in the shade ‘natural’ was specified, to compliment the building’s rich history and enhance the overall look and feel. With the high level of footfall the James Watt Building receives on a daily basis, the inclusion of a durable, long-lasting and eye-catching flooring was a much needed addition.

Altro Fortis provides low maintenance solution for new Welsh school


The school opened in September 2016. As part of the build, Julian James, Managing Director at Julian James Cladding Ltd., recommended the Altro Fortis wall protection system. Doors and plaster board walls can easily be damaged, be it scrapes and knocks as people pass, or more serious dents and holes caused by wheeled traffic. Altro Fortis Titanium has been specifically designed to protect these surfaces. Altro Fortis Titanium is dense, impervious and resistant to bumps. It features a lightly textured surface, which camouflages scuffs, keeping the wall area looking better for longer.

High performance wood effect sheet vinyl flooring from Polyflor’s Forest fx PUR collection was recently chosen to help create a stylish interior for pampered pets at Glamour Pooch Dog Spa and Day Care in Freckleton, UK. The concept for this retail interior was created by Beverley Wood Design, a creative consultancy service based in Lytham St Anne’s. Forest fx PUR vinyl flooring in the Rustic Oak shade was installed by the clients flooring contractors in the reception and dog grooming areas.

Alutec 'Flying High' At Historic Reymerston Hall

The customer wanted to find a new tile that had a similar aesthetic look to the original clay tiles but also needed to ensure an economical overall installation cost. James Bros Roofing Contractors, who specialise in the re-roofing of domestic properties using natural slate, clay plain tiles or more modern concrete tiles, selected Wienerberger's 20/20 Antique Slate roof tiles to achieve this brief perfectly.

This bulthaup b3 kitchen with laser-edged laminate fronted cabinets in ‘Kaolin’ white is the centrepiece of this lower ground floor living space. The worktops are composite stone and the feature backsplash to the rear wall is marble. The wooden bartop is solid oak with a white stain treatment to blend in with the rest of the colour palette used in the scheme. V&A Dundee, the £80 million museum rated ‘Excellent’ at its design stage BREEAM assessment, was designed by Kengo Kuma & Associates with PiM.studio Architects and James F Stephen Architects. Maurizio Mucciola, Director at PiM.studio Architects: “Kingspan RMG600 and Attiro was used on the second-floor circulation, foyer and galleries. The raised floor and Attiro system was chosen to provide flexibility, especially to the gallery spaces which might need to be reconfigured for different exhibitions.”

This open plan, living space extension in an ‘Arts and Crafts’ house in Wimbledon, includes bulthaup b3 cabinets in laminate for the working area of the kitchen as well those extending into the lounge area with wall panels incorporated for the TV. The raised bar top for casual dining was bespoke manufactured in the bulthaup factory with book-matched olive wood and provides a beautiful, natural centre -piece to the space. Spectus Window Systems

Jade Windows has completed a large project at Castleford Academy which saw the establishment self-fund a two phase refurbishment of windows, doors and a fully glazed corridor. With over 1200 students attending Castleford Academy the need for refurbishment was apparent as Ryan Fozzard, estimating manager at Jade Windows explained: “For students to perform well academically their environment needs to be comfortable and inspiring. The original school was built in 1906 and despite the addition of a sports hall and drama studio, the building had become tired and desperately needed an overhaul.”

AET Flexible Space

Fabulous Edwardian building with a Grade II listed Portland Stone façade. A full refurbishment including structural reconfiguration to the central core and installation of new HVAC services, creating 3000 sq m of prime office space in the St James’ area of London. Both the client and Architect requested a clean finish with no services at high level to allow the decorative feature plasterwork in the ceiling to be exposed, underfloor air conditioning was subsequently specified by consultant Watkins Payne Partnership for four of the seven floors.

The bulthaup b3 kitchen in this Chelsea Town House blends anodised aluminium units in sand beige for the base cabinets with rough-sawn oak, white stained tall cabinets to give a warm, calm aesthetic. The kitchen opens to a dining living space which leads on to the garden via glazed sliding doors. Worktops are composite stone and the appliances are by Gaggenau. This bulthaup kitchen in a North London period home, combines fitted furniture in b1 with a freestanding b2 cabinet. The simplicity of the white lacquered b1 cabinets, with a white composite stone worktop, sits well within this period space. The oak natural b2 cabinet neatly houses an integrated coffee machine with a dishwasher below on one side and useful storage on the other. Another perfect delivery of steel windows into a listed restoration project

Clement Windows Group

Clement have now completed their third phase of works at Norwich City Hall, an Art Deco building completed in 1938 and designed by architects Charles Holloway James and Stephen Rowland Pierce. Clement replaced the original steel windows in this listed property with new Clement W20 windows, improving energy efficiency and security whilst retaining the character of this wonderful landmark building. Morgan Sindall, the main contractors on the project, have awarded Clement a Perfect Delivery Certificate for the works carried out.

The owner of this apartment in a historic 1930's building in Baker Street chose bulthaup b3 kitchen furniture in stainless and graphite laminate. The striking run of stainless steel tall cabinets on the rear wall was designed around several structural and mechanical features, to provide a sleek clean line, housing the Miele appliances and a hidden pocket door in the centre. With countryside views from the picture window of a contemporary Norfolk holiday home, this bulthaup b3 kitchen was designed with weekend and holiday entertaining in mind. The anthracite aluminium fronted cabinets and stainless-steel worktops contain the stainless-steel appliances for a seamless, unfussy aesthetic, the language of which is continued into the dining area. A powerful ceiling extractor was chosen to eliminate cooking fumes but not the view! The double depth island unit offers generous worktop space and ample storage on both sides. Using a monochrome palette with accents in brass, this bulthaup project illustrates how the clean clear lines of minimal cabinetry allow period and feature details to stand out. The AGA range cooker sits neatly between the base cabinets and the bespoke brass extractor hood enhances this focal point. The cabinets are in b3 laminate, graphite on the tall run and alpine white for the base units. Warmer and quieter offices for the Master and Staff

In the university city of Cambridge, three neighbouring buildings forming part of Pembroke College’s estate have recently been renovated. One of which is the Grade II Listed Kenmare House designed and built by James Essex c.1760, who was a prolific constructor in Cambridge. Due to its Listing, the original single pane windows had to be retained, so a solution to combat the noise ingress and thermal inefficiencies had to be sought. Over 60 secondary glazed units were installed by Selectaglaze throughout the buildings.

Stair Edgings, Matting & Floor Trims - Colindale Gardens, London


We supplied a range of Flooring Accessories and Barrier Matting Systems to Colindale Gardens, an ongoing development of luxury townhouses and apartments in north-west London. New Scotland Yard

Signbox Ltd

When the Metropolitan Police moved from St James’s Park to Victoria Embankment in 2017, Signbox was tasked with replacing the iconic sign that had been seen steadily rotating outside the building and to supply and install bespoke LED illuminated stainless steel lettering for the new HQ’s pavilion roof. For such high profile signage, everything had to be designed and engineered to exacting detail, specified to be highly robust and durable. Fabricated from stainless steel and clad in anodised aluminium, the sign is halo illuminated and rotates at an optimal speed, to avoid blurring or distortion on television screens.

Riverlight Development, London

The Solid Wood Flooring Company

Riverlight is the first building to be completed in the Nine Elms area of Battersea by the power station site. Comprising 813 apartments across six glass towers, the project commands an enviable location on the side of the Thames.
