Oscar Iso-Mount Type1 achieves 90-minute fire rating

Oscar Acoustics, has achieved a 90-minute fire rating at BRE Group’s testing facility for its Iso-Mount Type1 ceiling mount.
An isolating ceiling mount, Iso-Mount Type1 significantly reduces transmission of noise from the floor above but only loses 6mm of ceiling height. The mount was tested to BS EN 1365-2:2014 Fire Resistance Tests for Loadbearing Elements at BRE Group’s laboratory in Watford in December 2018.
Iso-Mount Type1 can be specified for projects ranging from house conversion to flats, both new build and renovation, as well as shops, restaurants and other commercial soundproofing applications.

The Bridgewater Hall in Manchester is a 2400 seat concert hall constructed in close proximity to the cities Metrolink tramway. Ground-borne vibration caused by passing trams was highlighted by Arup as going to cause unwanted structural noise within the performance space. To avoid this the building was constructed off 280 number GERB pre-stressable coil spring bearing assemblies positioned on the concrete column heads and tuned with a vertical natural frequency of 3.5Hz.

This study aimed to compare levels of bacterial contamination isolated from surfaces in a busy kitchen situated in a UK care home. The study’s main objective was to compare bacterial contamination on the antimicrobial wall cladding with other surfaces in the kitchen. The care home kitchen had been fitted with BioClad PVC wall cladding at the time of construction in 2011. All walls in the rectangular-shaped room were fitted with BioClad from ceiling to floor. The antimicrobial performance of the wall cladding was to be appraised according to the findings of the study.

Polyflor donated Polysafe Mosaic safety flooring to the new RSPCA Bury & Oldham facility at Strinesdale Country Park, Oldham.
Three shades of Polysafe Mosaic PUR safety flooring were used throughout the building, with various colours being used to indicate different zones. The blue Freshwater shade was installed in the reception, shop, corridors, dog meet and greet room, operating theatre and clinic. The beige Akoya design was fitted in the cattery, upstairs office area and training room. The red Sunstone shade was chosen for the isolation rooms.

This refurbishment and extension of a Victorian warehouse used high quality, crafted materials to complement the existing Victorian building.Two elevations of a two-storey extension to the warehouse featured Victorian style tiles under each window.
The designers were challenged to find a method for mechanically fixing these tiled panels which the SafeSecure® system achieved.
Every tile is retained with hidden stainless steel sections within the panel. The panels were installed on rails which were ideal for the steel framed structure and allowed for thermal isolation and sufficient room for ventilation and insulation to the cavity void.
Heradesign Spins its Acoustic Magic at Cycle Culture

Acoustic consideration was critical for the design of a new generation cycle studio in London. An isolated sound box was constructed to form the studio with stud walls built to separate it from the café – using a lift shaft model allowing for air and acoustic separation. To complement the paired back industrial ‘Scandi’ design and monochrome pallet, Heradesign in black was specified throughout. Joe Stuart of Warehome Architects said, “Heradesign was perfect for this project. It provides excellent acoustic properties and we love its natural, raw wood wool texture. Specified in black it is really striking.”

The award-winning Halle Orchestra has a new home in the city after the completion of a £6.6 million three-storey extension to a former church dating back to 1859. To ensure that the resulting extension would meet the orchestra’s exacting acoustic requirements, Architects Stephenson Studio called in TVS Group.
TVS was tasked with designing and installing specialist acoustic flooring together with steelwork isolation pads which sit within the floors to take various column loads. The specialist TVS RESi Concrete Metal Floating Floor was installed over three different rehearsal areas.

Future-proofing their facilities, Hirwaun Primary School included space flexibility as a key feature of a new £10.5m building, that opened in Autumn 2020. Allowing teachers to quickly adapt one of the main classrooms, Style worked with contractor Morgan Sindall and architects, Boyesrees, to install a Dorma Hüppe Variflex moveable wall system.
With an impressive 55dB Rw acoustic rating, once the wall is in place, separate classes can run undisturbed on either side, making this an ideal solution for isolating pupil bubbles, as well as being intensely practical in accommodating a wide variety of ongoing daily activities.

Police officials worked with McClaren, Wilson, and Lawrie Architects of Phoenix to help design the building to resist a terrorist attack, isolate potential hazards and control visitor traffic and access. The Boon Edam solution included adding a screening area at the front of the lobby. Once a visitor is cleared, they walk through a Tourlock security revolving door to enter the main lobby. There is an added layer of security between screening area and main lobby; bullet-resistant glass protect against a gun attack; prevention of unauthorized entry; and seamless integration of physical security entrances with modern building design.

T-Pren on Recreational Centre, Calgary

Nearly 1000 metres of T-Pren gutter expansion joints were installed on the 28,000 sq.m. curved roof the Rocky Ridge recreational centre in Calgary, Canada.
The wide curved gutter required long special lengths of T-Pren, 9-18m long, and were installed in pairs to provide double the expansion movement. T-Pren forms a waterproof expansion joint, which eliminates the standard step detail and so reduces the number of rainwater outlets required.
T-Pren is a composite material made from neoprene and metal bonded under controlled factory conditions to ISO 9001 quality standards.

The tanking material had to succeed where the specified competiton fell short : all weather installation; self-healing/sealing capabilities; one product application ; mechanical not chemical bond to concrete. It also had to meet the specified requirements of BS8102 1990 Grade 4.
The solution was 8000m2 of Voltex, containing zero VOC, installed in almost any weather conditions to green concrete, and proven effective on both new and remedial waterproofing projects worldwide.
Aided by CETCO holding both ISO 14001 & 9001, and the properties of Voltex, the project achieved its CEEQUAL award, scoring above 75%, and rating Excellent.
