Heras replaces airport Schiphol (NL) perimeter

Amsterdam Airport Schiphol in The Netherlands is protected by a perimeter of more than 30 kilometres. The fences, gates and security systems will all be preventively replaced in the coming years. Heras is managing this long-term and complex project by working closely with all parties involved.

At Schiphol Airport’s Joint Inspection Center (JIC), enforcement staff and inspection services work closely together in inspecting air cargo quickly, safely and efficiently. Since the building is government property, a statutory regulation provided that a portion of the budget for the JIC must be allocated towards art. Heras developed an artistic fence in association with artist Hansje van Halem, Schiphol, Customs and the Government Property Company.

Due to the expansion of Schiphol Airport, the mortuary was transferred from the terminal to a new building located on a busy road. Schiphol was looking for a solution to preventively secure the building against drivers who might potentially lose control over their vehicle. Heras recommended and provided a strong and secure solution through which the morturary can guarantee the safety of its employees and visitors.

Bespoke perimeter protection at newly renovated Chichester Free School

In 2010, the UK’s coalition Government introduced free schools, which, in response to demand from local communities, would see the opening of non-profit-making, independently run, state-funded schools. Today there are over 475 free schools across the UK, and Chichester Free School is one that is growing from strength to strength. The school put the finishing touches to its new campus ready for opening at the start of term in September 2018. A robust perimeter protection system was an important part of the development, in order to keep students and staff safe and secure.

Some of the biggest businesses operating in the space deal with millions of transactions per week and have a highly complex logistics and distribution operations. This was the case for one of the UK’s leading grocery retailers, so to help manage the complexity, it wanted to install a perimeter protection system that would be secure, and that would allow efficient control of the vehicles and people flowing through its distribution centres.

The former press and broadcast centre in London’s Olympic Park has been transformed into the one of the biggest European tech hubs, with Marlon Clickfix RL glazing system glazed with Marlon Clickfix 1040 polycarbonate panels. One of the challenges for the architect was finding a thermally- efficient rooflight solution which would work at a low 7° pitch. Marlon Clickfix 1040 has interlocking connections that click into place forming glazed areas of unlimited size and shape. It provides a low pitch rooflight maximising natural light achieving the required performance of highly sustainable buildings, and creates a bright, naturally-lit environment.

The paths were laid as part of a Help for Heroes' project to transform the Grade 2 listed house into a Personnel Recovery and Assessment Centre (PRAC) for injured service personnel.

The design of the Here East Broadcast Centre in London promotes visibility between all areas of the building, whilst paying particular attention to the quality and performance of acoustics, ventilation, lighting and thermal performance. Each unitised cladding panel features two panes of heat strengthened laminate glazing, comprising a total eight laminate sheets. The ceramic frit is printed on the external sheet’s inner surface, and a layer of solar coating – to reduce solar gain and improve the performance of the glass – is applied to surface four.

The Here East project announced in 2013 has transformed the former Olympic Press and Broadcast spaces at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park into Europe’s biggest technology hub. The Plexal innovation centre is housed in the former press centre and contains flexible offices suitable for start-ups and technology companies. The CAM-V configuration is ideally suited to the “hangar-style” building and allows the greatest flexibility for future reconfiguration of the space.

Rhepanol - copper here in spirit

When it came to replacing the stolen copper, the council thought long and hard about its options for a facility that was never going to have a 24-hour security presence while respecting visitors’ sensitivities. To meet both demands, the council opted for Rhepanol fk roofing membrane finished with its copper roof paint, which patinated in a matter of weeks to its characteristic green oxidised form.

Here East, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, East London

Howe Green

Architect Hawkins\Brown specified Howe Green 7500 Series Medium Duty Stainless Steel Floor Access Covers for one of the office spaces within BT Sport located at Here East, the new digital quarter for East London. The covers were required to address the challenge of easily and safely accessing drainage junctions located beneath a raised floor system in the corridors of the building. The 7500 Series were specified with stainless steel Z profiles to provide additional support to the access cover within the raised floor. The access covers were initially covered with plywood and then infilled with a vinyl flooring finish.

Positioned at the end of Stansted Airport runway, is a brand-new College which opened its doors for the first time in September 2018. With just one runway serving all take off and landings, and the college’s location not far from the end of it, noise was a big concern. Selectaglaze helped provide a tailor-made solution with secondary glazing. It is the most effective method of acoustic insulation for windows in extremely noisy areas. Selectaglaze installed 32 units across the college with their Series 10 - 2 and 3 pane horizontal sliders and a Series 41 casement door.

The SN9/65B features a unique bevelled back edge and complies with current Building Regulations (document K) and eliminates the need to rebate the substrate to accept the nosing, therefore speeding up installation time.

This client has an exciting vision when it came to the type of finish she wanted, for the ceiling in her swimming pool and spa area she wanted it to look like the sky with clouds at sunset, here we applied a textured Venezia and coloured it to clients bespoke taste. In the other areas of the pool we applied natural Venezia Travertino, this followed through in to the WC and shower areas. In other areas of the house we did a high shine red Stucco Da Vinci for the clients Boudoir and light grey Stucco Antico Bathroom ceiling.
