Illumirail - LED light System for Handrail

Fishguard Primary School - Balustrade and Handrails


At Fishguard Primary School HEWI provided a safe environment for the children whilst blending aesthetically with the theme of the building. Coloured polyamide was chosen for the main staircase with clear safety glass infll, soft touch door handles where used throughout. Externally, Circum satin finish grade 316 stainless steel was chosen for all areas, including access ramps and steps from the car park, with post mounted handrails and perforated stainless steel infll. Safety glass panels, in clear and 5 differing colours was used on a balcony. Matching perforated stainless steel infll panels were incorporated on stairs.

ASF 128 Bollard / Step Unit Handrail

ASF's 128 pattern cast iron bollard was used in this project as the post for a bespoke step unit. One side of the steps was fixed to a set of railings (also by ASF) by a core fixing directly to the bollard upright. The handrails themselves were bespoke manufactured mild steel, galvanised rails, with steel side mounting brackets made to mechanically fix into the ASF 128 Bollards.

Neaco handrails and balustrade featured at award-winning scheme


Neaco’s contemporary handrails and balustrade have contributed to an award-winning development at the new Barker’s Furniture Store in Northallerton. Designed by SP&Architects and constructed by Wharton Construction Ltd, the store’s mixture of new build and refurbishment won Best commercial building/scheme in the North & East Yorkshire region at Local Authority Building Control (LABC) Building Excellence Awards 2016. Neaco’s Quad stanchion was specified with tubular toprails and toughened glass infills to provide a contemporary solution on an internal stairway and mezzanine floor.

Square Line 60x30 stainless steel balustrade + handrail lighting for London pontoon


The sides of the pontoon, bridge and ramp at Battersea’s river boat service required ultra safe balustrades. These had to be a natural fit to the industrial environment. The Square Line 60x30 stainless steel balustrade perfectly suited the job. Its stainless steel posts were welded to the pier for extra robustness, and toughened glass infills of 10 mm thick were added. The Q-lights Spotlight LED system was invisibly embedded in the handrails for extra safety at night. The industrial looking stainless steel elements of the Square Line 60x30 system add to the appearance of the pier.

Easy Glass Max glass balustrade + Q-lights Linear Light LED for handrails- Leeds University


Modernising historic properties can bring major challenges. The architects at Fuse Studios gave careful consideration to this question as they prepared for a refurbishment of the Fine Arts building at Leeds University. Early on, the new access ramp at the front entrance was identified as an important visual centrepiece. The architects opted to use Q-railing products, including an LED-lit handrail, when creating an ultra-safe glass railing for the ramp. Q-railing recommended the Easy Glass Max system. It is highly robust, meeting all the relevant safety requirements with ease, and yet provides an uninterrupted glazed area.

A hugely popular handrail design that ASF have supplied to projects in many locations. The full sized bollards that are used as post uprights give a sense of solidity and permanence, whilst the mitred top gives them just enough of a decorative nature to lift the product beyond a simple post and handrail job. In this project all welds and interfaces were polished back on site so the finished product becomes a complete unit with no visible fixings. With both double and single handrails over multiple flights and angles, this project shows how ASF can manage any project need.

Water Lane, Cobham

Richard Burbidge Balustrades

A development of four luxury properties situated in Cobham's popular and leafy Water Lane. Specification for the large feature staircase in each property included Richard Burbidge Heritage Collection large section 115mm newels, in combination with 41mm balusters, finished with an Oak moulded handrail profile. The large section newels create an impressive aesthetic and also allow the handrails to negotiate the acute changes in angle caused by the helical staircase design.

Canal Architectural worked closely with James Darwent Architecture to design and manufacture a bespoke curved cantilevered staircase for a property in the Peak District The mild steel staircase structure incorporated 16 timber treads with 20mm spindles and handrail, incorporating an all wax finish. A handrail was added to the staircase in American White Oak as part of a safety and architectural feature. The result was a minimalist structure that blended perfectly with the contemporary and rustic elements of the property. The talented project team worked closely with NAW Reynolds Building Limited to install the staircase in line with current regulations.

Mariners' Park, Liverpool

Richard Burbidge Balustrades

Richard Burbidge has provided a bespoke FUSION curved handrail and accompanying stairparts to create a secure and stylish hallway at Trinity House Hub on Mariners’ Park in Wallasey, Merseyside. The latest addition to the Park, an Extra Care Housing scheme, opened in 2014 by The Princess Royal, provides an extra 18 apartments and communal facilities to the 95 existing properties. Stairparts specialist Richard Burbidge has supplied curved corridor handrails to the new development, mirroring the curved design of the building, as well as providing a robust Fusion Commercial stair balustrade to the communal staircase.

Q-line stainless steel baluster railing adds to waterfront entertainment venue


Club Venu is a premier destination for dining, dancing, arts and culture. Set in a beautiful waterfront location, it’s undoubtedly one of the most stunning attractions in North Wales. The architectural plan included a roof terrace on the second floor, which incorporated a balustrade. In total, more than 40 metres of stainless steel Q-line balustrade with glass clamps, handrails and offset handrail brackets were mounted. Modern and minimal in appearance, this solution nevertheless offered considerable time and cost savings. The exterior balustrade delivered unbeatable safety without sacrificing transparency. The result is a stunning, uninterrupted view of the waterfront.

BUPA Oak Lodge - 71 Bed Nursing Home

Providing specialist dementia care facilities as well as a day centre for the elderly. The £5.7million development was delivered by BUPA and Southampton City Council. FUSION® Commercial stair balustrade was installed on the main staircase to provide a safe and stylish barrier. The system’s combination of minimalist oak handrails and sleek tubular balusters in a contemporary brushed nickel finish complemented the building’s modern décor and other good quality furnishings, whilst its availability off the-shelf meant there were no lengthy lead times. Richard Burbidge also supplied wall mounted handrails for installation throughout the building.

Easy Glass Slim + Q-line: FIFA World Cup stadium Brazil


Located in Manaus, the heart of the Brazilian rain forest, the Arena Amazônia stadium was a FIFA World Cup 2014 venue. It features Q-railing glass railings, posted balustrades and handrails. The handrails and railings run between stadium areas and are used in staircases and exits. Faced with stringent requirements, Q-railing’s record in other stadium projects spoke volumes. Nearly 8,000 metres of Q-railing products were installed, including Easy Glass Slim, Easy Glass 3kN glass balustrades and Q-line baluster railings. Q-railing products, with their clean, contemporary design, are a perfect match for its unique architecture.

EXEC Demountable Staging For Spectator Seating

CPS Manufacturing Co LLP

Events centre EXEC in Peterborough requested a demountable spectator grandstand for their events. CPS Manufacturing installed a demountable tiered stage for the spectators. CPS installed 80 Alu Rapid platforms as well as handrails. The staging platforms are waterproof and anti-slip. As the stage needed no sway bracing, it will be easier to assemble and demount the grandstand when required.

Central Birmingham Symphony Orchestra Staging

The Central Birmingham Symphony Orchestra wanted to revamp their staging. The orchestra wanted height adjustable staging that can be used in a range of different formats. The staging was to be used by the orchestra as well as tiered audience seating. The orchestra chose CPS's Alu Combi system which is a height adjustable, modular system with a waterproof and anti-slip surface. Handrails and storage trolleys were also provided.

Hill House School Staging and Demountable Seating

Private school, Hill House School in Doncaster requested two staging systems from CPS. One stage was used as the performance stage with a full curtain, lighting and sound system as well as cost-effective black Alu Rapid staging platforms. The other stage was to be used as demountable tiered spectator seating including carpeted Alu Rapid platforms to reduce audience noise levels and handrails on each side.

Crawley Down lifted to new FA standards

Zaun Limited

League regulations demand the installation of a rigid mesh fence with a spectator handrail around the perimeter of the pitch to a height of 1.1 metres. Zaun completed the complex supply and installation as changing ground levels required adaptation to ensure maintaining the 1.1m height around the whole pitch. Zaun contracts manager Steve Hancock visited the Haven Sportsfield Ground to take all of the site details for manufacture and supervised the installation, which was completed a week ahead of schedule.

Some buildings have enough space for a ramp that comply with the slope requirements or a platform lift that can stand next to the staircase – the challenge can be that many accessibility solutions will impair the existing architecture of the building, and most want to preserve the existing aesthetics of the building, despite of the accessibility requirements. The FlexStep, the fixed staircase, and the repossess at the entrance to the pharmacy are built on top of the pharmacy’s original stone staircase, and they are designed with the steps, handrails and repos in identical wood, so the solution is consistent.

The fact that the FlexStep has been chosen for the unique Eidsvoll House (Eidsvollbygningen) in Norway is further proof that FlexStep can be adadpted to any environment, both when it comes to function and design. The black painted FlexStep with painted steel handrails and rubber mats on the steps looks as if it has been a part of the old building since the Norwegian National Assembly in 1814 wrote the constitution of Norway here. It was also in this building that Prince Christian Frederik was elected King of Norway.

Procter Contracts

Once again Procter Contracts partner Bam Construction to successfully complete a B&Q store.We took control of the design manufacture and full installation. This is one of a number of projects Procter have completed for the same Bam team, they trust us to deliver a high standard of work and complete on time. Within 6 weeks we installed high security 4.8 fencing, crash barrier with a handrail, steel guardrail, trolley bays and lamp post protectors.

Wall Protection - UCLH, National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery


A complete wall protection system from Gradus has been installed at the newly refurbished Lysholm Department of Neuroradiology at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (NHNN). Supplied and fitted by the Gradus Contracts Team, the system includes wall guards, corner guards, kickplates and bollards from the stainless steel range, plus handrails from the 450 timber range, which is designed to meet guidelines in Approved Document M, BS8300:2009+A1:2010 and HBN00-04.

FlexStep in DJI Store, Paris, France

In view of the modern style of the store and the high-tech products offered, the installation and the design of the FlexStep were kept in plain colours and materials to support its manifestation. The design is created in special colour (dull black) and the steps are equipped with aluminium chequer plates which offer an industrial look due to the rustic aluminium surface. The special black colour of the construction, the balustrades and the round handrails in stainless steel altogether suggest the requested minimalistic and high-tech look of the FlexStep stairlift.

Easy Glass 3kN glass balustrade - Dutch university campus


Extensive use of glass, and the careful articulation of forms, ensure a wonderful feeling of openness, whatever side you view it from. Q-railing’s Easy Glass 3kN glass balustrade system more than fulfilled the demanding safety requirements while still providing maximum transparency. In total, around 600 metres of glass balustrade were installed alongside stairs and landings. Attractive finishing touches were provided by wooden handrails and base shoes powder-coated in black.

Tanker inspection & loading solution

Ajax Safe Access

The client approached Ajax for an access system that enable tanker access for inspection and loading; the system needed to be easy to operate, durable and addressed working at height concerns. The Ajax technical advisor suggested a pneumatic step unit was the ideal solution. To eliminate the risks of falls a bespoke safety cage was added on top as well as handrails from the top fixed step to the last moving step. FlexStep in the Danish Parliament (Christiansborg Palace)

Liftup was contacted by the architect responsible for the old historic building Christiansborg Palace, because he was looking for an integrated solution to provide access to all persons, walking and walking-impaired, for one of the main assembly rooms in the Danish Parliament. The wide historic staircase 6 steps down to the assembly room was divided with a FlexStep in the middle to create easy access to wheelchair users and walking impaired. The old floorboard steps were re-used as step inserts and brass handrails were the finishing touch preserving the style and atmosphere in this historic room.

Neaco’s balconies and balustrade offer visual appeal


Neaco have supplied a wide-ranging balcony balustrade and internal balustrade specification at a development of luxury waterside apartments in Guisborough, North Yorkshire. The company’s glass panelled Juliet balconies and bespoke walk-on balcony designs are featured alongside balustrade installed to an interior mezzanine and a communal roof terrace. Handrails and balustrade have been precision-manufactured in aluminium featuring a powder coated finish in one of Neaco’s standard metallic colours. The rails and stanchions combine superbly with tinted toughened glass infills for a stylish modern aesthetic.

Accoya® selected for stunning split-level West Vancouver home


Accoya was selected as the ideal material for this breathtaking home in West Vancouver. Accoya was used for the railing, siding, fencing and soffits throughout the property. In addition, an Accoya handrail was specifically custom designed by Upper Canada Forest Products. Unlike anything surrounding it, this home’s irregular shape and atypical residential building materials are more akin to modern-day South American projects that stem from their surroundings to showcase concrete’s versatility. This is why the Accoya was left in its rough state, to accentuate the minimalist and harmonious aesthetics of its natural environment.

Easy Glass MOD 0760 stand-off railing system + Easy Glass Slim frameless glass balustrade - Shopping centre


Parc Central shopping centre in Tarragona, Spain, has been one of the leading shopping centres in the Tarragona province. In 2013 the second floor was fully refurbished. For the interior, the architects chose Easy Glass MOD 0760 balustrade and a combination of stainless steel and wooden handrails. On the roof terrace 100 metres Easy Glass Slim were installed, with a stainless steel cap rail to create a stylish finish. The full glass balustrade ensures the safety of people sitting outside while they enjoy a clear view of the surroundings.

Easy Glass Pro glass railing - Museum Vlaardingen (NL)


In Vlaardingen Museum, the Netherlands, old meets new. The use of concrete, aluminium and glass creates a powerful sense of open space and transparency. The many level changes and loft-like spaces meant it was important to find a balustrade solution unobstructed by a conventional handrail or metal grip. The Easy Glass Pro structural glass balustrade offered the ability to make fine adjustments to the positioning of each glass panel from the installation side – invaluable when being installed on the various sections of finished concrete flooring levels.

AATi Anti-slip Stair Nosings for London Bridge Station

AATi (Antislip Antiwear Treads International)

AATi supplied a staggering 2500 metres (1.55 miles) of cast metal anti-slip stair nosings for the major re-development at London Bridge Station! AATi worked closely with Laing O’Rourke to develop a phased delivery schedule in order to hit key milestones during the projects construction from January 2016 right through to December 2017. Due to the unique ability to manufacture bespoke cast metal products, AATi were on hand to resolve an issue on the project by designing a bespoke nosing to fit around the handrail posts throughout the station.

Canal Architectural

Canal were approached to manufacture a bespoke, straight staircase for a residential property in Kent. The architect wanted to allow as much light in as possible to permeate throughout the property which meant incorporating extensive amounts of glass into the design. The specification required a contemporary steel staircase structure with glass balustrades and treads. The structure and handrails were manufactured in stainless steel and a satin polish finish was applied to provide a brushed appearance. Pig nose fixings were applied to the glass and stringer, which married up the initial welded fixings to hold the glass panels in place.

Dundee Waterfront: Roma-3 fencing


Three types of fencing were supplied for a prestigious waterfront location on the the River Tay. The design was developed jointly with the City of Dundee Chief Engineer, creating bespoke fencing which made use of modular panels wherever possible to meet the project budget. Roma-3 was used as infill panels to the keyside balustrade. The panel frames were customised with an extensions to carry a hardwood and stainless steel handrail. All the fencing was hot-dip galvanized and polyester powder coated to provide a durable, low maintenance finish to withstand the rigours of the coastal location.

Fawcetts Yard taps into rich seam of Neaco style


Neaco’s glass balustrade and aluminium grille systems are once again proving their value in contemporary design schemes following a specification at Fawcetts Yard, a development of luxury homes in Harrogate. Designed by Bramhall Blenkharn and built by HACS Construction, the select development comprises four stylish three-storey homes alongside a workshop/studio. The balconies on each home feature Neaco’s Techdek decking as well as their Elan semi-structural balustrade system with aluminium stanchions and handrails in a grey powder coated finish. The result is an attractively minimalist aesthetic in keeping with the development’s modern design and finish.

Neaco balustrade called into service at new fire station


Improving accessibility has always been a recurring theme in the specification of Neaco’s products and so it proved again when the company’s balustrade systems were called into service for entrance ramps at Humberside Fire and Rescue Service’s new cutting-edge Hull Central Fire Station. Jefferson Sheard Architects sought to design an accessible and welcoming facility to serve the local community. Neaco’s contribution was integral to this objective with aluminium handrails and balustrade to steps and two extensive ramps at the main entrance. The system was also specified with glass infill panels for a first-floor terrace.
