Swish Building Products has been named roofline and rainwater supplier for a rolling refurbishment programme by ALMO, Your Homes Newcastle (YHN). Supplied and installed by Swish Approved Installer JDP Contracting Services, the Swish roofline and rainwater systems will be installed on around 500 homes per year. Swish’s Sustainable Rainwater products contain up to 84% recycled content, a combination of old windows and guttering systems. This can save up to 70% in CO2 output during the production process when compared to 100% virgin material. The recycled material is grey and is co-extruded with an outer skin of virgin material.

Planet has a great relationship with BAM and is recognised as a Tier 1 supplier. That’s why BAM asked Planet to put together the specification for a new four-storey teaching and learning facility and a four-storey office building at Glasgow’s Southern General Hospital. Planet worked with Boswell Mitchell Johnston, using p20 single glazed demountable partitioning and Eclipse sliding doors to create laboratories and offices. Several atrium glass screens also feature throughout the building. The glass partitioning was kept in place using a frameless, fire-resistant, hardwood system, spray-painted to match the other aluminium framework.

Products: Flexi light, Flexi heavy & Flexi access. Services: Plantroom, Generator, Air-handling units, VRF condensers and bespoke access solutions. Roof build-up: Inverted roof design. The mechanical services contractor on the project, had a number of different heavy building services that required supporting. This included a 6000kg plantroom, 6000kg generator, two 4500kg air-handling units and a 1150kg air-handling unit. Utilising our Flexi-Heavy Duty range of supports, we designed and calculated individual frameworks for each item of plant, paying particular attention to ensuring that the correct load management through our frames.

With patient, visitor and employee safety of utmost importance on-site, BriggsAmasco specified a multi-layer, hot air weldable Sarnafil membrane. This removed the need for hot works on the rooftop, so the application could be completed efficiently and with minimal disruption to the hospital.

The design brief was to utilise the industrial look of the warehouse to create a bright, fresh and contemporary space that would match the office space. Recticel Insulation's Eurothane GP was used in the floor of Lime Tree Passivhaus. Architect Chris Parsons: “Passivhaus requires high levels of insulation and the avoidance of thermal bridging, which the Recticel product helped to achieve.” Jody Murfit, director at contractor Grocott & Murfit: “The project generally was quite challenging due to the curve but the Recticel insulation was easy to install. We just cut it to size, doubled it up and taped it.” Eurothane GP is a high performance rigid polyisocyanurate (PIR) insulation suitable for ground floor applications and compatible with underfloor heating systems.

The iconic Grade II listed building Sion Hall has been recently transformed to a modern 16,813 sq. ft high specification office space to suit a specific tenant. We supported the workplace specialist with product specification, lighting design and calculations. 3D visuals were created to support the client to visualise the complex space. The performance driven office luminaire Rio Suspended was used across the office for general lighting. Slim linear profile Leck was used in the SAS ceilings in the Tech room. The Nile Surface was used around the perimeter of the Oak room.

Howe Green supplied seven Visedge Series covers to provide safe and easy access to underfloor building services in corridors throughout the busy hospital. Maintenance of essential building services had become problematic as the original floor access covers, fitted over four decades ago, had broken. The covers could no longer be removed, making access for planned and emergency maintenance virtually impossible

Waitrose’s Distribution Centre at Bracknell delivers to more than 60 stores, handling up to 150,000 cases of chilled products. The new warehouse was conceived to a ‘green’ design; generating 20% of renewable energy on site with waste heat and office cooling recycled from the refrigeration process, efficient lighting and low carbon emissions. Hoardings during construction were made from recycled plastic and materials from the demolition were also recycled. In keeping with the concept of sourcing natural materials, a Roma-3 mild steel grating fence in a galvanized finish was specified for the boundary demarcation.

Quick and easy dry-build Anchor Diamond blocks were used to form 300Lm of low-height landscape retaining walls and interesting seating areas for cross-shaped cuttings through a large grassy mound. The mound creates a striking landscape feature and focal point in front of the college and was formed using the large surplus of spoil generated during the demolition works. Over 3,000SQM of Boulevard paving was also selected to give a clean crisp contemporary feel to the hard landscaping areas with the associated cost benefits of concrete blocks and the production quality consistency needed for the phased construction.

The project is ground breaking with a plan to lock away as much carbon as possible whilst generating excess energy from systems installed. Reppel products used: Lewis Deck light weight steel/ screed composite floor system providing acoustic floors improving Building Regulations Part E standards by at least 8dB. Lacomet FL flashing was also used - as alternative to lead, solving the problem of tannins leaching from timber shingles roofs.

Pump House met the contractor on-site during the assembly of frameworks to ensure a trouble free installation. We also prepared ahead of the installation AutoCAD drawings depicting the correct support of each unit, as well as pressure and roof loading calculations.

The configuration and refurbishment of the department was undertaken to improve patient flow, the overall environment and to rationalise inpatient and outpatient areas to satisfy privacy, dignity and capacity issues. Yeoman Shield’s (Harrison Thompson) directly employed fixing operatives, who have been assessed as being competent to install such passive fire-resistant products by FIRAS, installed fire rated door protection panels, PVCu clad Glazing Bead Units and Door Edge Protectors to various doors throughout the unit.

There are two options to compensate for the heat loss in hot water distribution pipes: using a temperature maintenance cable or a re-circulation pipe. Which option is more sensible from an energy point of view, when using a condensing boiler for hot water generation? A study by the Technical University in Dresden addresses the question of which option is more energy-efficient.The results presented show that a single pipe hot water system that compensates for heat losses with a self-regulating temperature maintenance cable is a better solution.
