During the London 2012 Games, Frontier Pitts protected various Olympic sites including the Olympic Park, Greenwich Park, Old Trafford and St James Park. Three pairs of Frontier Pitts PAS 68 Terra V Gates were installed at Greenwich Park venue. VIPs to Greenwich Park during this time included members of the Royal Family. After the games, our client described the Terra V Gates as the ‘Best Security Gates of the London 2012 Games’. The Terra V Gates are a pair of bi-parting hinged gate leaves that were successfully impact tested to PAS 68 stopping a 7500kg vehicle travelling at 50mph.

Following the brief outlined by the water treatment plant the proposal adopted for implementation was for the creation of secure access control. Bi-Folding Speed Gates topped with razor wire were supplied to each of the main entry and exit points to the site. These were supported by PAS 68 rising bollards and rising arm barriers with synchronised operation and traffic light signalling. The gates and barriers were flanked by runs of Jacksons Securi-Mesh® fencing to provide a separate pedestrian entrance to the facility, while static PAS 68 rated bollards were additionally deployed to manage traffic within the site.

Every building requires a level of security. Whether it is high, medium or low risk is down to the individual business and what specific requirements they have.

Chelsea Waterfront is a high-specification new development centred around the iconic Lots Road Power Station where car parking is facilitated by a basement accessed by automatic bi-fold gates. Having been specified by Terry Farrell, Bolton Gate Company were chosen to design, manufacture and install a set of gates which included two automatic bi-fold gates with an adjacent personnel gate. The main gates provided secure vehicular access being activated by card reader and the adjacent hinged gate allowed selective personnel access by key fob. A polyester powder coated finish in Basalt Grey was applied to blend in with the surrounding structure.

CuTex is a permeable geocomposite root barrier consisting of a copper sheet mechanically encapsulated between a woven polypropylene geotextile and a high strength nonwoven polypropylene geotextile. Cutex functions not only as a physical barrier, but also as a chemical barrier.

Elephant Park is part of a £2.3 billion regeneration project in Elephant & Castle. It comprises a mixed-use development of 3000 new homes and up to 50 shops /retail units all centred around a new 2-acre park. Bolton Gate assisted the Architect with the design of a large electric Multi-Fold Gate to the Service Bay which consists of twelve equal leaves each constructed from an SHS frame with 50 x 10mm vertical steel fins and internal mesh to prevent the ingress of birds. Matching cladding and balustrades completed the elevation all of which were powder coated black.

The BBC Elstree Studios, Borhamwood, are home to some of the top shows on British television today including; Strictly Come Dancing, The Voice, The Chase and Pointless. But let’s not forget its film heritage – Indiana Jones, Star Wars, The King’s Speech and Paddington.Now Newgate are having a piece of the action.Here at Newgate we are proud to have been awarded a new £40,000 contract to supply not only our range of vehicle access gates, but five sets of pedestrian control gates too.Whilst this is definitely one of our more exciting projects, this is not our first venture into “TV LAND”, as we have previously supplied security barriers to the original BBC HQ in London and the film set of Coronation St, in Manchester.

Triton products, including liquid applied TT Vapour Membrane, were specified to form a ground gas barrier system in the redevelopment of listed almshouses situated in close proximity to a landfill site.

Witley Court is a ruined Italianate mansion built in the seventeenth century and expanded in the early nineteenth century by the Architect John Nash. In 1937 a major accidental fire broke out and whilst the building is in ruins, it is Grade I listed and in the care of English Heritage who restored the formal gardens and fountains. Bolton Gate were engaged to design and manufacture gates replacement gates to provide night-time security with special folding bottom tracks to leave the floor surface intact and installed with great care to maintain the building’s status.

As part of a £14 million redevelopment of Bolton’s Market Place Shopping Centre, the extensive historic vaults that lay beneath were uncovered and developed into bar and restaurant units. Bolton Gate were engaged to design, manufacture and install nine collapsible steel gates which spanned the openings some of which were arched and in keeping with the surrounding metalwork, a clear powder coating was applied over the galvanised substrate to match. In addition to the vault gates, Bolton Gate also supplied a series of roller shutters, smoke and fire curtains in the upper development of the project.

The newly refurbished reception area is key to attracting and retaining tenants and is a key sales feature for the building owner. Following consultation, INTRAshape XS rectangle tiles and black INTRAlux Select fibre inserts were chosen to echo the reception’s statement wall cladding.

The Clipper Group warehouse in Northampton provides a distribution and logistics hub for multiple retail and high value brands. As such, Brandsafe were brought in to ensure that the warehouse is able to operate in a safe and efficient manner. Keeping the flow of pedestrian and vehicular traffic moving smoothly and safely is the priority here, which was achieved by implementing secure caged walkways and Armco barriers with built-in pedestrian handrail, safety ends and gates. As a result, the employees and high value goods at Clipper are protected from potential vehicle impacts.

Jaguar Land Rover's site in Solihull is a major operation for the global car manufacturer. The nature of the production and logistics centre means that there is constantly high flow of industrial and domestic vehicle traffic around the building, as well as pedestrians. Brandsafe designed, supplied and installed a range of safety systems to meet the needs of the client, both aesthetically and operationally. The new pedestrian walkway system is a key component of this, with safety barriers and gates, as well as highly visible HGV clatter bars to help protect against vehicle collisions.

The new £165 million Victoria Gate Shopping Centre has opened its doors to the public for the first time on 20th October 2016. The complex, which houses the first John Lewis store in West Yorkshire was opened by Welcome to Yorkshire CEO Gary Verity.INTRAsystems could not be any prouder to partner with Victoria Gate in installing INTRAflex XT Heavy Duty Entrance Matting with a unique chevron design and Waterflow Drainable Matwell Base.

BACKGROUNDClancy is one of the largest privately-owned construction firms in the UK. With over sixty years’ experience and a workforce of over 2,200, they have worked hard to develop a reputation as a well-run business offer essential services that help keep the UK running.CHALLENGEClancy contacted Frontier Pitts to install a Sliding Gate to secure the entrance of their prestigious HQ. As this gate would be the first and only access point to their HQ, incorporating the ‘Clancy’ branding on the gate was very important and therefore Frontier Pitts worked to incorporate the logo in the bespoke gate design.RESULTSliding Cantilevered GateFrontier Pitts popular model of Sliding Cantilevered Gate was installed with a Pedestrian Wicket Gate to the side. The made to order bespoke gate included the distinctive ‘Clancy’ logo, which was laser cut into sheet infill, positioned to the centre of the gate, and is clearly visible on approach to the headquarters. All Frontier Pitts Automatic Gates are installed in line with DHF Safety standards with a full Risk Assessment determining the most appropriate safety devices for each site’s requirements and users. Pedestrian guard rail secured the runback area of the sliding gate, with other safety devices including photocells, vehicle detector loops, safety edges and a traffic light system installed.Commenting on the installation, Clancy said:We chose Frontier Pitts as we wanted to find a company to develop a partnership with, who understood our requirements for this very custom project. From the Tower of London to The Royal Palaces, Coopers is trusted to install fire and smoke curtains barriers for some of the world’s most iconic heritage buildings. With this knowledge, appointed architects Arrol & Snell assigned Coopers to develop a system that would help protect the cathedral’s Undercroft and Treasury from smoke migration in the event of a fire. The smoke barrier system had to allow visitors to exit the Undercroft and Treasury safely, whilst preventing smoke from entering the main body of the cathedral, but any system had to be sympathetic to its unique and ancient architecture.

In 2016, BCM GRC supplied the Victoria Gate Shopping Centre in Leeds, a project designed to resemble a modern Victorian arcade. The triangular-profiled GRC surrounding the main entrance had a preformed mitred junction, specifically designed to aid installation and still look great.A stunning example of GRC in use, Victoria Gate was earning international recognition shortly after its doors had opened. It was crowned the BEST shopping centre in the world at the MIPIM Awards in Cannes in March 2017!

ACME Architects’ multi award winning £165million Victoria Gate is a vibrant new shopping destination in Leeds city centre, offering well over 1million square feet of premium retail and leisure floor space. This enables fabricators, architects and end users to achieve the widest range of room comfort requirements with regard to barrier-free systems. ASF worked with AECOM and Barhale Construction for the new fish pass and viewing platform at Mid Calder, Livingstone. A standard base plate version of the ASF Buckden 2 Rail post was used, manufactured in 100% recycled cast iron, for the fish pass itself offering a safety barrier for Scottish Water and fish pass technicians when accessing the riverside area. A bespoke version of the posts were manufactured for the viewing platform that were supplied as a panel post with vertical infill bars so that the public can view the fish pass. A matching lockable gate with vertical infill was also manufactured to link the viewing platform and the fish pass itself.

As part of the refurbishment of this 1970’s building, Bolton Gate were specified to provide a hybrid grille / shutter to the loading bay. In addition to providing vehicular entry / egress with the requisite ventilation for such an application, matching side panels were required with integral hinged doors to allow personnel access and provide emergency exits. The grille / shutter was provided with a special bottom rail and operates via a keypad outside, loop detectors inside and photocells / safety edge to meet H&S requirements. The whole assembly was powder coated brown in keeping with the surrounding structure.

City Gate is as much a part of the modern Düsseldorf skyline as Kniebrücke, Landtag, Rhine Tower and the new port skyscrapers. The new skyline presents the latest developments in modern Düsseldorf in terms of architecture and cityscape projects, not forgetting the historic old town with its river Rhine promenade.

On average we spend 90% of our time indoors. The DucoMax was developed specifically for buildings with high levels of noise disturbance, to keep the noise out. The integral self-regulating valve also keeps the air flow constant during differing wind pressures. As a result, students are hindered as little as possible by these external factors. The combination of the various facilities with a healthy indoor climate contributes to an optimal learning and living environment for the students.

The LPS 1175 SR1 (A1), SR2 (B3) & SR3 (C5) Platinum Bi-parting Bi-folding Gate with overhead top track is a security gate which is ideal for underground car parks and sites where there is a limited area for the gate to open and close. The gate has successfully withstood forcible attack to Security Rating 1 (A1) for 1 minute, Security Rating 2 (B3) for 3 minutes and Security Rating 3 (C5) for 5 minutes.

Lionweld Kennedy supplied and installed both open mesh flooring and GRP light out removeable handrails to 4 twin level access gantries at the 'Doncaster Carr IEP Depot' for Hitachi Rail Group.We supplied and fixed demarcation fencing with integral gates to form the stores area within the facility.Also, we supplied and fixed internal depot protection to fork lift routes, including column protection, bollards and spring steel barrier systems.Using both steel open mesh flooring and GRP handrails was a great cost solution for the client, as we were able to utalise our products to create a safe working environment which is fully compliant with British and European standards.

Spitalfields offers an opportunity to experience this wonderfully authentic London area that is home to contemporary brands and innovative Street Food independents, all set against the backdrop of a world-famous City skyline.

Lang+Fulton products were used extensively at The Emirates Stadium for Arsenal FC as barrier fencing, security screening, balustrading and wall cladding. The Arezzo-25 fence panels with a 76x25mm aperture were supplied with the flat bars running horizontally in order to take a loading requirement of BS6399 – 1:1996. This guaranteed its suitability for use as a barrier fence for the crowd control areas surrounding the Emirates. Alternative fixing methods combined with the versatility of the panels created continuity of design throughout the varied applications within the project.

While concrete walls and Armco barriers are conventionally used to help protect drivers and spectators at motor racing circuits around the world, products from the range of FIREFLY have been specified to provide the necessary fire protection periods within an East Midlands venue which has become a focus for E-sports enthusiasts in the UK.The work at The Metronome in Nottingham is being carried out by one of FIREFLY’s approved installers on behalf of the venue’s operator, Confetti Media and is making extensive use of the manufacturer’s FIREFLY Zeus Lite 90:30 barrier, along with the Collaroll product to create compartmentation throughout a basement area, and as parts of The Metronome are also used by Nottingham Trent University and its students as a recording and production studio, Krasi Fire Protection Ltd.’s contract is in fact being phased – with work due to complete to work around the academic year. The Contract Manager for Krasi Fire Protection Limited, Daniel Oldacre, commented: “We began using the FIREFLY barriers a couple of years ago instead of mineral wool based systems and have been getting very good training, specification and on-site support from the company. In the case of the contact here for the company which operates The Metronome, we put forward the FIREFLY Zeus Lite 90:30 as the best product to create the necessary fire barriers as part of a major refurbishment and FIREFLY’s Technical Manager, Dave Allen, assisted in supplying the necessary compliant details.  He is also attending site regularly to carry out the required inspections. It is quite a large and complex contract during which we will be installing barrier across the soffits and walls as well as protecting services such as ductwork.  While some of the spaces are confined, FIREFLY is easy to cut and fix in place and saves us a lot of time compared to conventional systems and although we are not installing horizontally here, we did have all 10 of our operatives trained up on FIREFLY’s Horizontal systems as part of the annual update on installation of the systems.”  FIREFLY Zeus Lite is ideally suited to this type of application, comprising a flexible woven fabric fire barrier that has been specifically developed for the vertical separation and compartmentation  of extensive concealed spaces within buildings.By offering 90 minutes integrity and 30 minutes insulation, FIREFLY Zeus Lite 90:30 exceeds the minimum requirements regarding fire barriers under the Building Regulations’ Approved Document B (Fire Safety).  The specially treated glass fibre fabric is strong and resilient as well as flexible while, crucially, the system’s certification covers the inclusion of service penetrations which some products do not. Manufactured from woven and non-woven glass, the FIREFLY range is designed to optimise resistance to flame and smoke as well as offer heat protection in a wide range of scenarios.  The barriers are easy to install horizontally or vertically using a full selection of FIREFLY ancillary products to ensure a fully tested and certified installed system.Images shown are taken during installation and some sections of the installation might be incomplete.

Mungret Gate is ideally located just 5km from Limerick City Centre with plenty of activities nearby including a playground, stunning scenery and 2km of walk and cycle paths.The development by Homeland Group consists of 3 and 4-bedroom family homes that are modern and stylish but also sustainable, with an abundance of green communal space for children to play in andfamilies to enjoy. Homeland Group felt that energystore’s TLA would be the perfect fit for their new Mungret Gate development.

When the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort was planned, the project included a 7-bay fire / ambulance station which featured a garden style theme to enable the buildings to harmonise with the green surrounding and the nearby Theme Park. Bolton Gate were specified to provide fourteen electric folding doors which included a special green powder coating, Lexan vision panels and faux louvres to each door. In addition, the doors had to be designed to resist typhoon loadings of up to 3Kpa, were manufactured in Bolton and shipped to Hong Kong where they were installed by the local agent Deacon.
