Planet Partitioning used p20 single glazed demounatble partitioning with a smoked laminate glass finish on optiwhite glass, then combined this carefully with low-iron glass to give the client the exact colour wanted. The requirement covered two floors and some of the partitioning formed a balustrade for the edge between them. Eclipse sliding doors ensured a highly premium, clean-like look and feel. Several doors were patch-hinged to address key deflection head requirements. As part of the package we also created a membrane ceiling across a recess area within the showroom, enhancing key illumination areas by softening the light.

Morecambe Home Made Secure with SeceuroGuard Retractable Gates

Morecambe Home Made Secure with SeceuroGuard Retractable Gates

SWS UK

With everyone spending more time at home, creating a safe and secure sanctuary is now more important than ever. In addition to quality locks and CCTV or alarm systems, physical security such as roller shutters and retractable gates provide both a visual deterrent and a strong physical barrier against any thieves who try to enter your home. In this case study, SWS UK distributor Duratec Security Solutions advised their client on the ideal solution for securing three vulnerable door and window openings at their Morecambe based home. The Customer After a series of attempted break-ins within the homeowners local area, including an attempt on their own property, Duratec’s client decided it was important to secure their bi-fold doors which, being located at the back of the property, made them an easy target for would-be thieves. The Requirements As well as securing their bi-fold opening, the homeowner was looking to secure a further two vulnerable openings; a first-floor bedroom and their home office. Whilst security remained their primary concern, the homeowners were keen to find a solution which didn’t have a negative impact on either the internal or external appearance of their stylish home. The Solution After extensive research, the homeowner decided that retractable gates would provide a perfect balance of strong, reliable security whilst still allowing natural light to enter their home. They liked the neat bunching of the gates when not in use, ensuring they could still maximise the living space in their extension. Having viewed a similar product at a friend’s property, one concern was that the ‘X-lattice’ looked too commercial. Duratec informed them that SWS UK’s SeceuroGuard was available with a contemporary ‘S-lattice’ design which their client felt was much more in-keeping with their home. They were also pleased to discover that the gates could be colour matched to their existing windows, opting for white on the first-floor openings and a modern anthracite finish for the gate securing their bi-fold doors. The Outcome With a team of two installers, Duratec were able to fit the gates in 4-5 hours. Chris Ellison, owner of Duratec, explained that when installing products in customer’s homes it was important for them to take their time, ensuring a perfect fit whilst avoiding damage to the property. Particularly applicable to this client who had very expensive floor tiles where the SeceuroGuard’s low-profile bottom track needed to be installed. Upon completion, the client said ‘Duratec Solutions and the installation was very professional. My wife and I are very happy with the product!’ So impressed were the client that they went on to recommend both SeceuroGuard and Duractec Security Solutions to their friends in Leyland who had unfortunately experienced a recent break-in. Chris said, ‘because of one prior recommendation, we have been able to help secure multiple residential properties with the SWS SeceuroGuard retractable gates, making the homeowners feel safer in their homes.’ The SeceuroGuard 1000/1001 The SeceuroGuard retractable gate system combines a modern appearance with a high level of protection, ideal for homes or workplaces. Available with an LPCB insurance-approved security rating, plus the police preferred Secured by Design specification, SeceuroGuard can be powder-coated to any RAL colour and is available in unlimited widths when supplied in sections.

The Spine - Royal College of Physicians, Liverpool UK

Johnstone's Trade Paints - a brand of PPG Industries

The Spine, located in the heart of Knowledge Quarter Liverpool – a central hub for higher education and research in the city – includes the new northern home of the Royal College of Physicians (RCP). Designed by renowned architecture and building consultancy practice AHR, the building has been hailed as one of the healthiest workplaces in the world, thanks to the pioneering research in biophilia, health and wellbeing that has been drawn on for its creation. One of the most exciting new developments in the north, The Spine reflects the RCP’s global stance as a leader in healthcare, using the latest innovations in wellbeing-focused design, while being a striking new addition to the Liverpool skyline. The Spine has been designed according to the scientific and medical research principles established in the WELL Standard to achieve WELL Platinum. Through the integration of architecture and interior design The Spine embeds wellness and biophilia into the building environment emphasising strong connections to nature throughout the building, along with the highest standards for provision of fresh air, light and water. The distinctive façade takes influence from the human skin, with the striking Voronoi pattern including 23 million individual polygons applied to the glazing of the building. Inside the building The Spine’s series of double height spaces known as vertical villages supports the provision of light to aid productivity and stimulating the mind. Interior design solutions were selected with occupant wellbeing at the forefront, from natural materials, textures and finishes wherever possible to support biophilic principles and ensure air quality is kept to a high standard throughout the building. Working closely with PPG, AHR specified a range of sustainable paints including JOHNSTONE’S® Trade Air Pure – a bio-based wall and ceiling paint proven to purify indoor air. “When it came to choosing paints for The Spine, we knew we had to find options that were water-based and would have the least possible negative impact on occupants. So we were delighted to find a paint that would actually improve indoor air quality. By using Johnstone’s Trade Air Pure, we’re optimising the air quality within the building and helping to enhance the general wellbeing of occupants, all while limiting the impact on the environment.” Robert Hopkins, AHR regional director Once applied, the revolutionary Air Purifying technology in Johnstone’s Trade Air Pure neutralises up to 70 per cent of formaldehyde from indoor spaces. What’s more, the formula is 45 per cent bio-based and comes in 100 per cent recycled packaging. To complement Air Pure a range of low-VOC water based solutions were used to give the building long term protection including Johnstone’s Trade Aqua Water Based Gloss and Water Based Satin, Covaplus Vinyl Matt, Acrylic Durable Matt and Acrylic Durable Eggshell. The use of biophilic design extends into the colour palette chosen to represent the growth of a tree. Natural earthy colours flow throughout the lower floors, merging into greener, leafier colours and patterns and blues on the upper floors as you travel up the building. The colour palettes work harmoniously with the timber curtain wall and timber floor. The landmark development is not only BREEAM Excellent rated for its sustainable approach; it is also one of the first buildings in the UK designed to the WELL Platinum Building Standard®, certified for mental health and physical wellbeing. “The Spine is one of our most exciting and revolutionary projects to date. We’ve had the opportunity to place unprecedented focus upon what really makes a positive, healthy and happy workplace. Working with the RCP, we’ve achieved a design that sets the bar for the incorporation of biophilia and its possibilities in a modern workplace. With wellness being such a core part of our ambitious design, we needed to make sure that every single element positively contributed to our objectives, and the paints used were no exception.” Robert Hopkins, AHR regional director.
