Architect: Scenario Architecture. This beautiful Victorian villa received an innovative green-roofed extension full of natural light thanks to IDSystems installed bifold doors, gable end glazing, rooflights, window and door. The challenge for Scenario Architecture was to design an extension that was filled full of natural light, took into account the changing floor levels of the property. Under the pitched roof, the gable end glazing has been designed to perfectly match the profiles of the SUNFLEX SF75 bifold doors, whilst the inclusion of a single access door allows the extension to angle away to create a larger kitchen/dining area.

Design and acoustic performance were key criteria for this project, which is why HERADESIGN was installed in all the classrooms as floating rafts and throughout the school, in the main corridors, where bespoke swing down access panels were also installed. Reddy Architecture commented, “We really love the architectural raw wood wool quality of HERADESIGN. The visible texture provided the required aesthetic contrast.” A calm neutral colour palette with HERADESIGN specified in warm-white provided a gentle contrast with the soft charcoal walls and floors - the perfect backdrop for bold bursts of colour at the entrance to the classrooms.

Open mesh steel balustrades, walkways, stairs and an agora now provide a safe and spectacular descent into the arena as part of an ambitious restoration project of the 1890 amphitheatre at Bradfield College. The theatre performs triennial Greek plays and celebrated its re-opening with a gala performance of Antigone in May 2014. The balustrade panels were made from DemiAlto grating with bespoke aperture of 55x110mm. The panels were installed without posts and were fixed through plates, mounted below the finished floor level. The grating was made with a suitable section of bearing bar to take the potential crowd loading.

Constructed in the early 80s by Arup Associates, 1 Finsbury Avenue has been carefully redeveloped as part of its evolution from single occupancy into a mixed-use offering. Behind the grade 2 listed bronze façade, work included the re-establishment of pedestrian access through the ground floor to reconnect the building with Finsbury Avenue Square and the wider neighbourhood. The bright, bold work of artist Morag Myerscough featured in this lower atrium echoes the lines of the façade. To match the interior aesthetic, black anodised INTRAflow entrance matting was specified for both East and West entrances.

The Lakhta Center is a large mixed-use non-residential development featuring the first supertall skyscraper in St. Petersburg. The 87 floor, 462 metre superstructure consists of a cylindrical reinforced concrete core. Due to exceptional reinforcement volumes, Ancon reinforcing bar couplers and headed anchors were used extensively in the construction of the foundation raft to avoid unnecessary overlapping of bars and minimise congestion. Nearly 80,000 CXL32 couplers were used for the splicing of 32mm horizontal reinforcing bars, and over 45,000 CXL32HA and 6,000 MBT ETHA32 headed anchors were used at the extremities of the reinforcement at the edges of the raft.

An exclusive turnkey project delivered by Lema, supplying the fittings for the 175 rooms and the Suite named after Josephine Baker of the iconic Hôtel Lutetia of Paris, which reopened in 2018 after a refurbishment that lasted over four years, having a value of over two hundred million euro. Lema has developed for every room a bespoke solution that could unite the aesthetic needs of designer; Jean-Michel Wilmotte. Lema completed the rooms supplying flooring, ceilings, wood panelling for the walls and the bow windows; wooden, glass and gold decorated doors, boiserie, bed headboards and mobile bar furnishing.

In this project for Jo Cowen Architects based in London we fitted ThinkingWall to span one wall of the office to provide a large working area. ThinkingWall is the ideal solution to create a large whiteboard workspace or visual planning areas. Each ThinkingWall was made to measure so we could create a bespoke whiteboard workspace to suit this environment. The modular system means we can join multiple panels to create almost any size. They can be manufactured, like this project, long landscape format or alternatively in a portrait orientation to create a floor to ceiling, wall to wall whiteboard workspace.

Colorminium appointed Volka Fitzpatrick as the main contractor. Aztec Screeding Ltd based in Gerrards Cross where awarded the screeding and resin package for the project. Aztec Screeding approached Longfloor liquid cement screed and their distributor to discuss the requirements for the ground floor reception area, which required a robust early drying liquid screed to be installed over water fed underfloor heating system at an average depth of 50mm.

The three-storey complex includes the company's walk-on balconies which come complete with a full provision of modular components including stanchions, toprails, glass infill panels and grille flooring. Neaco's modular balconies are manufactured and assembled at the factory stage for a fast installation which minimises time, energy consumption and waste on site. The development also includes Neaco's glass Juliet balconies which offer the same qualities based on a similar modular construction.

The Portals Hills Boutique Hotel in Mallorca consists of 29 condos and 2 penthouses. Visitors are immediately struck by the flawless white facade and soft, rounded corners. With floor-to-ceiling glazing, extensive balcony and terrace areas overlooking the Mediterranean and an infinity pool, balustrades were a key design element. The balustrade not only needed to provide transparency, but also an ornamental appearance. The Q-line posted railing system ultimately comprises 316-grade stainless steel posts and handrails with delicate steel bar infill running horizontally. For some parts, curved bars were installed.

Club Venu is a premier destination for dining, dancing, arts and culture. Set in a beautiful waterfront location, it’s undoubtedly one of the most stunning attractions in North Wales. The architectural plan included a roof terrace on the second floor, which incorporated a balustrade. In total, more than 40 metres of stainless steel Q-line balustrade with glass clamps, handrails and offset handrail brackets were mounted. Modern and minimal in appearance, this solution nevertheless offered considerable time and cost savings. The exterior balustrade delivered unbeatable safety without sacrificing transparency. The result is a stunning, uninterrupted view of the waterfront.

Contemporary looking anthracite grey foiled windows in REHAU TOTAL70 PVC-U profile helped the beachfront Harbour Green development in Portobello, Edinburgh make it into the final in the Apartment Development of the Year category at this year’s Scottish Home Award. More than 300 windows and 100 doors in the 55 apartments were fabricated and installed by Motherwell based commercial specialists Walker Profiles for MNM Developments. Floor to ceiling windows and french doors were chosen for many of the one, two and three-bedroom apartments, maximising the light in the open plan interiors and giving views for residents.

Maidenhead was a cliché of uninspired and unremarkable buildings until Sainsbury’s embarked on a major redevelopment scheme. The supermarket now forms the base of a major new building, with five floors of car parking which are embraced by an outer layer of flats. Reynaers’ CW 50-SC glazing follows the building’s curve and works without clumsy capping on the outside. The flats were fitted with Reynaers’ CS 68 system which was chosen for its high performance and good insulation values. The project shows the flexibility of a varied architectural approach to which Reynaers products can provide robust solutions.

The non-profit organization Living Architecture has realised four special holiday homes across England, each one is an extraordinary example of contemporary architecture, designed by leading architects. The most spectacular of the projects is the ‘Balancing Barn’ in Suffolk (Uk), designed by the Dutch bureau MVRDV. In the 30-metre long house, which juts out 15 metres over the edge of a rise, Reynaers CP 155-LS (Lift & Slide) was used for the large sliding windows. The large protruding section meant that it was possible to place another large window in the floor as a complement to the architectonic spectacle.

See how the UK's largest Premier Inn at Gatwick Airport's North Terminal keeps guests warm with ProRend EIFS external wall insulation over blockwork. The new build timber frame Premier Inn in Weymouth chose a different solution - the coastal hotel is protected by ProWall rainscreen cladding for a durable finish in an exposed location. ProWall rainscreen cladding and ProRend EIFS acheived a great finish and durable rendered facades for two very different builds.

ProRend EIFS (External Insulation Finishing System) is a complete solution for renovating properties, both residential and community buildings. ProRend EIFS adds a new, breathable outer envelope to the building, comprising of modern external insulation under a durable and decorative render finish. EIFS can be applied retrospectively with homeowners in place; does not reduce the floor area of the property; reduces heating bills and internal condensation; gives a new finish to outer walls; and does not spread fire.

Associated Architects chose SAS International to provide the high acoustic and finishing touches to the UoB academic interior fit-out. Anodised gold cladding and bulkheads were selected to encase the atrium lift-shafts, the main staircase and highlighting the university crest on the 4th floor. Three additional acoustic treatments for open soffit areas were specified over computer clusters and lounge spaces. SAS500 baffles and bespoke ring shaped and circular rafts were designed and manufactured by SAS to fulfil this requirement. The architects have effectively linked elements of the build to the next tying the theme of regency with modern amenities.

Signbox aided in the renovation of the entrance and the ground floor reception of multi-tenanted building, 165 Fleet Street. To refresh the two-storey entrance exterior and give it greater visual impact, the company created a uniform aluminium dressing by folding 10 swg aluminium over a powder coated, fabricated framework. A white LED-infused flexi strip was also installed along the edge of cladding, with the numerals ‘165’ visible along the top. For the reception area, Signbox developed and installed oversized LED-lit numerals ‘165’, which were set behind vertical bronze slats and a visitor seating area.

Injecting present-day performance into an historic passenger lift whilst conserving its yesteryear veneer – updating access in the transformation of the Grade II-listed, YMCA’s The Bristol Wing. The site dates back to the 13th century and boasts a colourful history that includes being home to a prison, the Chief Constable, the Invisible Circus theatre troupe, a group of artists, crown courts and a fire station. The original New York-style passenger lift was around 80 years old and operated within a traditional cage structure rising through the central stairwell of the building to serve five floors.

As part of a £2.4m transformation, Style was contracted to deliver flexibility to the ground floor meeting rooms of the Corby Holiday Inn, enabling the space to be quickly adapted to accommodate different functions and therefore maximise revenues. Working with CBP Architects directly with Holiday Inn, Style’s partitioning solution divides a single open-plan space for larger gatherings into two or three separate meetings rooms, using two DORMA Variflex moveable walls. Finished in a stylish antique oak laminate, and providing impressive 52dB Rw acoustics, concurrent events can take place undisturbed and the room can be reconfigured with ease.

The Window Film Company was approached by Oxford United FC to print and install floor to ceiling graphics throughout the tunnel area at the Kassam Stadium. The graphics featured custom-created action shots of each Oxford United player and were printed onto lightweight boards using The Window Film Company’s Oce Arizona flatbed printer. Once created, the boards were installed over a two day period, the dynamic nature of the graphics completely transforming arguably the most important part of the stadium. He project ensured that the tunnel area exuded a professional and inspirational feel with an unmistakable sense of identity.

London Zoo is one of the UK’s best-known tourist attractions and the world’s oldest scientific zoo. Opened in 1838, it now houses nearly 20,000 animals. The new Terrace Restaurant by SHH architects has tripled the dining space to 700 covers. Troldtekt ceilings play a major part in helping to create an acoustically pleasant environment for the high visitor numbers. With an abundance of hard surfaces, coupled with echoes and ambient noise, it was important to find a solution which would complement the design. This has been achieved by installing Troldtekt ultrafine acoustic panels on the ceilings below the mezzanine floor.

The existing Bushey Grove health suite was a stark, clinical looking area with gloomy sauna and steam plus a difficult to maintain whirlpool spa with all the plant two floors below. TyloHelo's design concept was to open up the space with glass frontage and dividing walls between thermal rooms and create more comfortable relaxation areas. The design was contemporary with large format tiles in warm, natural colours. The thermal suite comprised a Finnish Salt sauna, Salt inhalation steam room, Herbal sauna, Bucket shower, Feature shower, Ice feature and three heated benches.

The development of 33 King William Street provides 227,000 sq ft of stunning office space and a quarter acre roof top garden. Buzon UK were specified to install the Buzon pedestal system to support Iroko timber decking and a large area of paving to the spacious roof terrace creating a fantastic relaxation space for the office occupants to enjoy. Buzon pedestals are seriously strong, simple to install and are capable of supporting loads of more than 1000kg per pedestal so were the perfect choice of raised floor support system for this complex exterior terrace of contrasting materials.

Station Square Parade, located next to Colchester North Station is undergoing a substantial conversion from a large office building to 67 one and two bedroom apartments set around a terraced courtyard. Buzon UK have been commissioned to supply and install the DPH pedestal system to support 20mm Rucker Rowe porcelain paving to create an external courtyard and private balconies for many of the apartments. The DPH pedestal system offers excellent water control for raised external floors as the system allows for simple, fast removal of rainwater via access cavity and is fully adjustable from 17 to 1070mm.

In summer 2019, Bradford Hospital had opened their newly built Wolfson Centre for Applied Health Research. As a part of the new building burmatex® osaka carpet tiles were fitted to complete the interior design of the Centre. osaka inkpot is the main carrier, ideal for having on-site cut triangles of osaka sakura and osaka matcha with random colour effect creating zones on the floor. In this office environment, burmatex® heavy commercial class 33 carpet tiles have been chosen to create a unique and eye-catching effect in keeping a high level of performance.

Over fifty Howe Green 5000 and 7500 Series Aluminium Floor Access Covers were supplied for the award winning Collaborative Teaching Laboratory (CTL) at the University of Birmingham’s Edgbaston Campus. The 6,700m2 brick structure was designed by architects Sheppard Robson. It has won four awards in the RIBA West Midlands Awards 2019, including RIBA West Midlands Building of the Year. The CTL has also achieved a BREEM Excellent standard and an EPC A Rating for efficiency. The building design was meticulously detailed and the materials used were chosen to minimise maintenance and enhance the life expectancy of the building.

AEM Demolition undertook the heavy side building works of the 35,000 square feet M&M World in London. AEM required an access solution to provide reliable, durable and easy access to the building’s underfloor services. Howe Green’s 5000 Series Stainless Steel access covers were selected. The covers were installed in a range of different internal areas as well as with a wide variety of different types of flooring, including bright red resin, painted concrete and carpet. Designed and built to withstand the pressures of high volume pedestrian traffic, the covers have a 1 hour fire rating.

Howe Green access covers were selected for the Royal Shakespeare Company’s studio theatre renovation project ‘The Other Place’, in Stratford-Upon-Avon. The covers were required to provide routine and emergency access to underfloor ducting services throughout the building. Howe Green supplied a number of 7500 Series Medium Duty Floor Access Covers. The access covers are ideal for areas that require heavy loading as they are highly durable. Main contractor, BAM Construction, fitted the panels on a suspended concrete slab. Once installed, they were infilled with K-screed followed by a resin finish.

Howe Green’s 5000 Series access covers were chosen by interior specialists, Tekne Shopfitting Limited to provide access in The Tramshed, a Grade II listed building in London. The aluminium access covers were selected to provide a reliable route to essential underfloor building services in the Tramshed’s public washrooms and busy kitchens. Ensuring an excellent aesthetic finish, Tekne fitted four covers and inlaid each frame with resin flooring to match the surrounding area. The covers were double-sealed for use over foul drainage, with a third seal fitted to help prevent the ingress of dirt.

Developers of Jeddah Tower – what will be the world’s tallest building – selected Guardian Glass to supply the façade glass for the project’s over one-kilometer-high landscape. Jeddah Tower is an unprecedented project that dares to go beyond the one-kilometer threshold. The over $1.2 billion super-tall building structure will cover an area of 5.3 million square meters and include 439 apartments, 200 hotel rooms, 59 elevators and 2,205 parking spaces. It is set to break world records for tallest building, highest occupied floor, highest architectural top, highest tip and highest sky terrace.
