Corpus Christi College of the University of Cambridge has undergone a renovation of the Leckhampton house. The social centre of Corpus graduate life has been transformed to accommodate the ever-growing number of fellows, both visiting and of Corpus Christi College. The new hall features generous roof lighting, class leading LED luminaires, excellent acoustic insulation and full size sliding glass doors opening to the tranquil gardens. Hacel Lighting were the leading choice in providing a range of products, bringing together architectural style and innovation with outstanding performance to create an engaging and inspiring social setting.

The recently refurbished Old Low Lights venue opened its doors as a heritage and community hub. Located at the heart of North Shields Fish Quay, the museum offers a unique experience to explore 900 years of maritime heritage. The Old Low Lights building dating back to the 18th Century, commanded refined, architectural lighting and Hacel were at the forefront in providing a range of class leading LED luminaires, offering outstanding performance and contemporary design. The three storey building hosts a cafe, an outside public space with beautiful views over the river mouth, a museum and a function area for hire.

After an 11-month refurbishment, Odeon Luxe Leicester Square has reopened its doors as the UK’s first Dolby cinema. Featuring a brand-new state-of-the-art 800 seat main screen with dual-laser projection and Dolby Atmos speakers, the cinema offers the ultimate immersive experience. Bronze anodised INTRAform Low Profile combined with graduating tones of grey and blue INTRAlux Elite in a stunning chevron design creates a striking first impression and echoes the building’s art deco features. In the substantial restoration of a large Georgian estate built for and inhabited by the aristocracy, high performance timber sash windows, French doorsets and entrance doors by Mumford & Wood have been used throughout the grand house and numerous outbuildings which span different periods. Conservation™ box sash windows with traditional cords, weights and pulleys, many with complex arched or curved top frames made by Mumford & Wood, are factory finished and double glazed. Of totally traditional design they benefit from modern manufacturing techniques, are highly energy efficient and fully compliant with Part L Building Regulations.

Part of an energy efficiency drive, the landlord aimed to reduce carbon emissions and the effects of fuel poverty on 96 units in 8 blocks at Hornby Flats, Liverpool. Triple-glazed PVC-U windows and doors using the Profile 22 70mm system by Walsall-based Approved Window Contractor Select Windows, with extensive experience in social housing. Profile 22 worked closely with Select Windows and One Vision Housing, facilitating the entire process from conception to completion. The project was completed on-time and in budget. One Vision Housing was able to future-proof, while improving the quality of living for tenants.

Over 500 Profile 22 Optima Flush Casement Windows were installed in a private housing development in Whalley Range, Manchester. Housing developer Laurus Homes, a profit-for-purpose housing developer that’s part of Trafford Housing Trust, secured planning permission to build 13 four bedroom houses and 16 two bedroom apartments in Whalley Range near Manchester. The main contractor for the project was Lane End Group, the market leader in the construction and housing sector in the North West. The contract for the windows and doors in the development was awarded to Profile 22 Approved Contractor Kingfisher Windows

Expoconti and Rondo, along with the project architects, Lysons Architects and builder, Brookfield Multiplex, combined their expertise to ensure the design and construction of the RMIT Swanston Academic Building (SAB) offers a higher quality and innovative learning experience for students. To achieve this, the newly launched Rondo MAXIframe External Wall Framing System was specified, with Rondo MAXIjamb designed for installation around door jambs and internal window openings. This meant Expoconti could save time on site as MAXIjamb replaces the necessity for multiple stud configurations, as well as offering greater performance capacities than traditional wall stud framing.

When Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS trust approached us, they required new doorsets as their existing double-leaf corridor doors with surface mounted, scissor-arm closers were presenting a ligature risk and were regularly over-opened, causing damage. Plus, the leaves were vandalised, requiring regular repainting. We supplied our extra-wide, single-leaf doorsets with concealed hold-open closers, offering superior safety by reducing the ligature risk. We also used a vandal-resistant PVC facing to brighten the space and minimise regular maintenance costs.

Using an eye-catching bronze and grey colour palette Washroom delivered stylish new washrooms and a striking new reception area as part of an extensive office refurbishment in Covent Garden. The self-contained superloos all include Washroom's Concerto integrated duct panel system in grey high pressure laminate and are complete with its full height Alto toilet cubicle doors in a high gloss grey laminate with bronze ironmongery. The Alto toilet cubicle’s rebated flush system and matching pilasters creates an attractive, virtually seamless façade for a high specification look and feel.

A striking run of washroom superloos in an unusual dark oak and bronze design to complement the Art Deco building. The full height Alto toilet cubicles were finished using engineered oak in a natural fumed oak veneer with 20 per cent sheen lacquer for a shiny finish that is also hardwearing and easy to clean without concealing the natural grain of the wood. Each cubicle includes its own bespoke vanity unit with square countertop basins set on a floating shelf and were completed with veneered vanity under panels and wall panels stained to match the toilet cubicle doors.

Birmingham’s New Street station is used by more than 170,000 passengers per day. The £750-million transformation of the station took five years to complete and involved the creation of an iconic new atrium for the passenger concourse, improved platforms, new entrances and a range of facilities including the ‘Grand Central’ shopping area. ACO Building Drainage designed a bespoke radial channel solution with 6mm uniformed joints which matched the channel covers provided by ACO. The team also designed an outlet for the channels, enabling them to deal with the deep slab design and technical practicalities of the site.

Pigglefairy Puppies, based near Kings Lynn, are council-licenced breeders of Kennel Club registered miniature Dachshunds. The kennel where the dogs slept was five years old, and was starting to look tired. It needed a refit but owner Debbie Casemore wanted a solution that would not stress the dogs. She also needed a quick turnaround to make sure the dogs were able to return to the kennel quickly. Altro Cantata was chosen to provide an easy to clean floor that would be quick to install. It is installed without adhesive, which is a benefit when adhesive smells can cause stress.

The Farmiloe Building, with its faded Victorian industrial charm, was last year’s venue for celebrating and awarding innovative design across the hospitality industry. This fascinating Grade II Listed building made an exciting venue for the 5th anniversary of the Restaurant & Bar Design Awards. Attended by over 600 leading international architects, designers and operators, the architecture and engineering of the Farmiloe Building was complemented by five uniquely designed ‘Box Project’ spaces, each conceived by dedicated teams for the Awards, and where Breezefree’s 115sqm retractable canopy created a striking counterpart to Nicholas Alexander Creative Construction’s theatrical alfresco kitchen area.

The new Pavilion Bar and Grill is part of a five-year, DEFRA-funded, estate strategy, to regenerate buildings within the UNESCO World Heritage Kew Gardens. Ryder associate, Ruth Baker, said “Heradesign panels were a significant part of the interior design, we particularly liked the sustainable quality of the material and the unlimited colour options.” Heradesign panels were specified for the ceilings to absorb sound and minimise disturbance in the open plan eating area and kitchen. Heradesign’s natural raw wood wool texture and colour complemented the bold black steel finish, rational grid and use of glass.

Terra-34 balustrade infill panels, open mesh flooring, stair treads and louvred screening have been supplied for escape stairs at Milton Park. Three new buildings have been tailored to provide high-tech laboratories and offices. There were five stairs towers in total, 10.7m and 15m high, also designed to provide access to service facilities. The Italia-80 louvres effectively screen all the service ducting and were supplied with demountable panels with D-handles for inspection points at each landing and ground level. The result was a smart solution in keeping with the high specification of the development.

Located in Santa Clarita, California, which is just outside of Los Angeles, the Rye Canyon Medical Center is home to a variety of spaces from medical offices to flex use. This project was designed by Scale(s) Lab Architects, a Los Angeles based firm that specializes in mixed-use and retail spaces. Longboard products are incorporated into many healthcare facility designs due to being free of volatile organic compounds (VOC), manufactured with chrome-free processes, 100% non-combustible, and 100% recyclable. The products are also created with durable AAMA 2604/2605 certified powder coating.

Five years on, Z Hotels have expanded the role of Lutron technology with each new location. The company now has added Palladiom keypads and thermostat, and automated blinds to its myRoom Prime guestroom management solution. The result is efficient, intuitive, and stylish. “All of our customers are generally quite short-stay, so we wanted something that was really simple and seamless to use,” says Z Hotels Technical Manager Eamon Kelly. “And we needed something that could integrate motorised blinds, room occupancy [data], and other features without requiring deep technical expertise.”

Polyflor’s Expona Flow PUR flooring was recently selected to cover floors throughout the new “goPhysio” clinic in Eastleigh. Expona Flow PUR heterogeneous flooring in the Roasted Limed Ash design was installed by GE Nichols Flooring Ltd in five treatment rooms, exercise studio and reception area at the spacious and modern clinic. Fiona Moir, Director of goPhysio commented, “This elegant ash flooring design helped us create the calming atmosphere we wanted in the new goPhysio clinic in time for its December 2016 launch. The fact that it is hardwearing and easy to maintain is also a big benefit for us.”

Living room and kitchen form a single area in many modern homes and often feature open-plan design. People cook where they eat and eat where they live. The owners of the 150 m2 period apartment in Paris had a clear concept: Kitchen should be located close to the living room or, better still, be an integral part of it. To fulfil this wish, Dutch firm i29 interior architects designed a kitchen island that's really a piece of furniture. Unusually high MDF panels pivot easily and slide into the recess thanks to pivot/slide-in hardware HAWA Concepta 50.

Virgo Fidelis Convent School was founded in 1848. The beautiful Gothic style, club head windows with feature tear drops are a main feature of the building. The original single glazed windows were made from cast iron, offering very poor thermal performance and minimal security. After 100 years the time had come to replace them. Project managers Synergy Construction & Property Consultants were seeking a window system that could not only replicate the original design but would also meet modern performance criteria. Clement’s EB24 steel window range met these requirements.

Philharmonic Court, located on Catherine Street behind the historic Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, is a £25 million development of two linked structures offering accommodation for 354 University of Liverpool students. The new building, by Worthington Properties, replaces five outdated student blocks. Acoustics are a crucial factor in student residences, given the need to accommodate both youthful exuberance and the demands of serious academic study. As with all residential structures, the requirements of Part E (Resistance to Sound) of the Building Regulations must be adhered to. CMS Danskin worked with the architect and main contractor to find a suitable acoustic solution.

Chobham Manor is one of five new neighbourhoods being built at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Straford, east London. The chosen seating for the scheme was Furnitubes’ municipal-styled Newstead range. Project architects MUF Architecture / Art did though put their own unique twist on the designs, including some exceptionally high backrests that straddle the boundary fence to provide low level child-friendly seating on the play area side. On the street, the seating is more conventional, generally arranged in linear groups to encourage social interaction and placed to take advantage of attractive vistas across the development.

Working directly with St. Jude’s Academy in Wolverhampton, leading operable wall specialist Style installed a moveable wall to separate a dual-purpose classroom. Dramatically improving the use of space, the sliding partitioning system allows teachers the flexibility to quickly reconfigure the classroom from a single large teaching/activity space into two smaller classrooms that can operate side-by-side. Following the installation, Style was also appointed as the servicing and repair agent for this and five other moveable walls within the school. Routine servicing will protect the school’s investment by ensuring smooth and safe operation of each wall.

6 More London Place is a striking six-story office building clad in red and steel located on the More London development at London Bridge City. Designed by Foster and Partners the building is occupied by the likes of, Ernst & Young, Kantar and TNS. There are also five retail units occupied by Cafè Nero, EAT, Leon, M&S Simply Food and much more. With the design concept completely focused on creating an empowering experience, the new exercise studio FIRSTLIGHT is no ordinary studio. The bold scheme designed by interior and architecture design firm zynk translates the essence of the FIRSTLIGHT brand into a contemporary interior, using an industrial style colour palette and materials such as concrete, mesh and timber. The complex linear scheme on this project consists of 9 bespoke corner pieces, some of them at very tight angles. With everything fitting seamlessly together, we made the unworkable, workable. Rio enhances the industrial style interior design with exposed soffits and provides comfortable lighting

A bench made from recycled paint containers has been donated by Crown Paints Specification Services to celebrate the first year of a safety partnership with Derby Homes and Bell Group. Under a five-year contract, more than 200 Derby Homes’ properties across the East Midlands’ city are being painted with the flame retardant coating, Crown Trade Timonox Vinyl Matt, by a team of 20 from Bell Group. To mark the first year of the works, Derby Homes received the recycled bench at their headquarters in the city, which hosts a range of community facilities and meeting points for tenants.

ACS International Schools educate over 3,300 students across four sites. Firm believers that sport plays a huge part in personal character building going far beyond physical development, the school decided to invest in the best flooring system. Basketball and Volleyball are key activities within the new sports hall so in addition to two match basketball and three match volleyball courts there is a “show court” for both with seating for 400 spectators. The ideal DYNAMIK Helsinki sports floor system fully supports bleacher seating and the DYNAMIK Athen sports floor system was selected for the Dance Studio.

Holland’s most famous luxurious retreat, the Amstel Hotel, renovated its Health & Fitness Club. Thereby obtained the prestigious five-star Amsterdam hotel in one go a completely refurbished Wellness floor. The Health & Fitness Club was equipped with the latest innovations in sanitary, including Easy Drain shower channels. Easy Drain’s challenge in this project was to meet the required drainage capacity. Due to the large amount of water produced by the Horizontal Shower. Another challenge was the low installation depth requirements for the renovation. Furthermore, the shower drain had to conform to hygiene and safety standards for guests and personnel.

projectNobu Hotel is a new development in Shoreditch, East London, and was opened by Hollywood legend Robert De Niro and Japanese chef Nobu Matsuhisa in May 2018.The design of the five-storey building – which has 150 hotel rooms and suites – is a nod to the area’s industrial past with a ‘frayed edge’ look of stepped balconies formed with glass fibre, reinforced concrete and cantilevered steel beams. The design has also been likened to that of a cruise ship and received much critical acclaim.The roofing system covered 1500 sq. m, which included a green roof area and tiered balconies.

The Merker site in Baden now houses 45 low-cost apartments where the enameling plant once stood. The five-story structure sets new standards with regard to insulation and energy consumption. Architects Zulauf & Schmidlin have designed 45 apartments as the second stage of converting the site of the former Merker factory in Baden. The owners wanted an energy-efficient building and apartments with different layouts – suitable for singles and families. The folding sliding shutters made of lasered, perforated metal plate are equipped with the HAWA Frontfold 20 hardware.The shutters are powered by the building's electric system.

Formerly home to the Margolin gramophone Factory, 112 old street has been fully redeveloped to provide an expansive 27,000sq ft office space. Retaining its original, elegant Victorian façade, it has been fully redeveloped and is split over five floors offering the perfect balance of flexibility and style. Externally the Magply boards are being covered with a vapour barrier and a 100 mm layer of high performance foam insulation. On top of this, at first floor level, a resin based render system is being applied, featuring a base coat, reinforcement mesh, and two more layers. Peter Spendley of ARG “We believe the Magply is transforming the feel of the new build system, offering additional structural strength and solidity, where occupants will be able to achieve a firm fixing anywhere they want internally. It also has a very good acoustic performance in terms or reducing sound transmission and reverberation.”

Carpet tile and LVT from IVC have been used in a colourful, graphic scheme at the Dublin offices of Saongroup, a world leading online recruitment company. Demonstrating the ability of IVC to deliver solutions across product types, the installation saw over 1,000m2 of IVC floors used throughout office desk and common areas, using bold pattern and texture to separate areas. Specified by the highly talented Dublin-based interior design firm, Think Contemporary, the flooring scheme builds from a base of Shared Path carpet tiles from the Art Style collection.

IVC’s ability to deliver carpet tiles and LVT that create definition in the use of spaces, as well as uphold the biophilic nature of the design, has seen its floor finishes chosen in the Newcastle offices of global engineering firm WSP. IVC’s US-made Lichen and Zip It carpet tiles were selected for open plan office areas, receptions and meeting areas; while a selection of Moduleo 55 Woods, Tiles and Expressive were chosen for OSC, storage areas, walkways, the entrance lobby and bistro. Specified by Idaco, the floors reflect the nature-inspired finishes used throughout the interior.

Millworks supplied over 700m2 of Siberian Larch cladding for the external façade of this award winning distillery. In addition to the exterior façade cladding, Millworks developed and manufactured over 700m2 of internal cladding. Custom profiled, 200mm wide and fine sawn Thermowood (redwood) gives the interior an effortless style. Built by Chiltern Design who worked to tight time frames, Millworks were able to provide large volumes of timber, on time and machined to the highest standard.
