JS Air Curtains at Hope Uni

JS Air Curtains at Hope Uni

JS Air Curtains

JS Air Curtains has supplied a Rotowind air curtain for a revolving door at the Hope University in Liverpool. The air curtain was installed by M&E Contractor, HE Simm, and is helping to maintain internal temperatures, keeping students and staff warm at the new Registry Building at the Hope Park Campus.Although revolving doors offer some protection from the outside elements, they also act like a slow moving fan, dragging in cold air with every rotation. An air curtain following the contours of the internal curve of a doorway prevents this cold air from entering the building. The Rotowind air curtain installed by HE Simm at Hope University was a black 1.5m unit with an electrical heater capable of providing up to 22.5kW.The Rotowind can be supplied in any RAL colour or stainless steel and is suitable for doorways up to 3.5m high. It is available in three different formats to accommodate different styles of revolving door. A Door-Internal unit is mounted above the door and blows warm air into its inner sections. A Room-Side unit is also mounted above the door but blows across the room-side opening, and a Room-Side External unit that blows across the room-side opening but is mounted on the inside of the building rather than above the door.Every air curtain is tailored to the dimensions of the revolving door in question. JS Air Curtains liaises with the door manufacturer and designs each Rotowind to perfectly match the contour of the door model.Heating can be supplied with an electrical heater or low pressure hot water. Air-only models are also available. The Rotowind incorporates low noise centrifugal double inlet fans driven by an external rotor motor with built-in thermal protection, capable of delivering up to 6,475m³/h of air. The unit comes with a five speed controller and 7m of plug and play RJ45 electrical cable. Additionally it can be connected to a BMS.

Rundum Meir façade doors uniquely reflect Manchester landmark’s heritage

Rundum Meir façade doors uniquely reflect Manchester landmark’s heritage

Rundum Meir (UK) Ltd

A bronze façade featuring integrated Rundum Meir garage doors for two new townhouses in central Manchester has been uniquely designed to reflect the architecture of the nearby John Rylands Library, one of the city’s most famous neo-Gothic buildings. The duo of four storey, high specification private dwellings designed by Snook Architects for regeneration specialist Watch This Space have given new purpose to an unused site nestling between two post-industrial buildings close to Deansgate. Their full height bronze façade delivers a striking external appearance that takes a distinctive visual cue from the library, located opposite. The aluminium façade of both townhouses features laser cut and acid-etched lacy blind tracery patterns that match those in the windows of the library, a late Victorian neo-Gothic building which opened in 1900 and is now part of the University of Manchester. The lacy pattern extends over the full height of the façade which includes large folding/sliding shutters. These balance privacy with natural light requirements for residents during the day whilst being eye-catching at night as internal light shines through the laser cut pattern. This design extends into the twin side sliding sectional garage doors manufactured and installed by Rundum Meir, which effectively deliver a sliding façade at street level. Working closely with architect Neil Dawson, Rundum Meir’s designers were able to replicate the design with total consistency and manufacture in Germany using acid etching across the six aluminium sections. Neil Dawson of Snook Architects said: “Watch This Space approached us to look at how they could transform this city centre site and we immediately saw the potential to take design inspiration from the nearby John Rylands Library. The resulting façade is unique, and through the movement of the shutters and garage doors during daily life it is constantly moving and changing. “The laser cut pattern means that the building really comes to life at night as the internal light makes the intricate façade design a stunning feature. To be able to match this styling in the garage doors was crucially important and the result reflects the bespoke craftsmanship provided by Rundum Meir.” The twin Rundum Meir sliding garage doors each provide a clear opening of 3.8 m for easy vehicle access from the street. Hand made using extruded aluminium, the fully automated bespoke garage doors have an automated pedestrian door as well as the side sliding door that demonstrate the design flexibility offered by Rundum Meir, who create every garage door to meet project requirements.

Zonal Entrance Mat Design at 338 Euston Road

INTRAsystems

With all-glass revolving doors and vast glazing panels, the INTRAform DM entrance matting at 338 Euston Road appears to flow seamlessly from inside to out. Encompassing the angled and recessed doorway, the external matwell continues the line of the interior mat to square. This interesting combination of internal and external matting creates a highly practical design feature. Zonal entrance matting system Using INTRAform DM with differing inserts in the internal and external zones, the architect has created a two-stage zonal system. In zone 1 external, the matting is inset with multidirectional rubber which scrapes away excess dirt and moisture from footwear and wheels. With the entrance on the corner of the building, the flexible rubber fins ensure performance, whichever the direction of approach. In the primary mat, (zone 2, internal), the profiles are inset with highly absorbent INTRAlux Elite polyamide fibre. These inserts remove and retain any remaining dirt and moisture to ensure a safe and slip-free entrance. With the revolving door sheltered within the recess, the matting here is also inset with fibre. Made from 100% Econyl regenerated nylon fibre and capable of absorbing 5.4l/m2, INTRAlux Elite is both a practical and sustainable choice. Minimal design, maximum impact The INTRAlux Elite fibre in Grey 606 matches tonally with the multidirectional rubber. The oversized entrance matting panels lessen the use of diving t-bars. While the positioning of the t-bars has been carefully planned to align with the threshold. Along with the glazed façade, these elements help maximise the impact of the architect’s design, to create a stunning entrance. Learn more To learn how to create a practical, sustainable, and beautiful specification for your next project come along to one of INTRAsystems’ entrance matting CPD webinars.
