The luxurious apartments at Holland Green required the supply of wetroom drainage and waterproofing solutions into 134 bathrooms, suitable for use on a solid floor. CCL Wetrooms specified the installation of a Linear Screed Drain with a bespoke length Stone-Infill Grill into each shower area. The Linear Screed Drain was positioned flush against the shower wall and installed with either a single or double trap, capable of coping with flow rates of up to 56 l/min. To waterproof the floors and walls of the wetrooms, we recommended the installation of Tilesafe waterproofing membrane and Flexible Wall Membrane.

One of Northern Ireland’s most popular 20th century libraries has been refurbished and extended with Crittall Windows helping to retain its unique character. The original three-storey building was circular in plan with a distinctive saw-tooth window configuration on the first and second floors. Crittall Corporate W20 windows were specified for the contract, with polyester powder coated white frames they contribute to the overall light and airy feel. The double-glazed, weatherstripped windows suit perfectly a heritage building with a modern purpose. Designed and constructed to achieve a BREEAM Very Good certification.

Helmsman System 3210 wall to floor seating was installed totalling approximately 42 No metres in Black frame with Ash hardwood slats. Also installed is 11 No metres of System 3206 double sided seating with Black frame and Ash hardwood slats Helmsman supplied a range of one compartment, two compartment, three compartment and four compartment Heavy Duty laminate lockers. The Ashmolean Museum at the University of Oxford underwent a £61 million renovation scheme to meet the needs of modern institutions. BAM Construction specified a number of Howe Green’s 7500 Series Medium Floor Access Covers to provide high performance and discrete access to data cabling concealed beneath flooring in the museum. Installed in internal areas, the covers are capable of tolerating heavy pedestrian traffic and were designed to be infilled with a floor finish to match the surrounding area. The covers were manufactured in stainless steel to resist rust and corrosion and double sealed for optimal hygiene.

Howe Green manufactured over 100 Visedge Floor Access Covers for Bristol’s £430million state-of-the-art Southmead Hospital. A heavy duty and tamper-resistant solution was required to provide access to underfloor drainage systems. Developed for use within flexible sheet flooring systems and supplied with a double seal Howe Green’s Visedge Covers offered the highest standards of hygiene and security, ideal for a hospital environment. A number of 7500 Series Stainless Steel Access Covers were also required for installation in the grounds, where a heavier loading was required.

Howe Green designed and supplied made-to-measure tree pit covers for a new social dining experience - The Winter Garden at Bluewater. The bespoke panels and frames facilitate access to the root chamber and make maintenance of the highly valuable trees straightforward. The covers were made from 304-grade stainless steel. Each tree pit was manufactured to individual size requirements and to accommodate light fittings. They were supplied with a double-seal to prevent dirt ingress which also helps protect the tree and keep the soil free from contamination.

Western Power Distribution (WPD) provides service for Midlands, South West and South Wales, United Kingdom, with a network that spans the country’s width. WPD delivers electricity to more than 21,000 square miles (55,500 square kilometers) via 136,000 miles (220,000 km) of overhead lines and underground cables and 185,000 substations. WPD has committed to provide safer access to their 15,000 towers across the network. The company had used a double lanyard for working at heights, but wanted an alternative system that was faster, safer and reduced physical demands of climbing for their line operators.

Planet provideded the internal glass soloutions for Bexley Council's new civil office. Planet installed a mix of fire and non-fire-rated glass, and two-metre-high glass balustrades, which were fixed underneath the floor to achieve a minimalist design. On the first floor, back-painted glass panels conceal structural steel work. p100 double-glazed partitioning and FireClear fire-rated glass partitioning features throughout the atrium. FireTec doors feature throughout communal areas. A number of new offices have p20 single glazing.

Over 18 months, Planet Partitioning worked within a budget to achieve the sound attenuation levels required for the Sir Duncan Rice Library, using a combination of p100 double glazed partitioning and p20 single glazed frameless glass partition systems. We also installed timber doors throughout the library and was responsible for drywalling, which included solid partitioning between rooms and plasterboard wall lining. Planet used 27mm, low-profile frameless glazing to create a peaceful and open plan library with a spiralling off-centre atrium with 13km of shelving.

For the classrooms, p100 demountable double glazed partitioning ensures high acoustic attenuation. Planet Partitioning sourced and installed all the doors: timber-frame white doors that are easy to maintain and repair. At the academy’s heart is an atrium fire rated to 60/60 integrity and insulation, thanks to Planet Partitioning’s FireStop 25mm glass. These glass panels also feature in the library, which overlooks the atrium. For walkways and gangways, p20 demountable glass partitioning features where acoustic performance isn’t critical – but it ensures a modern and contemporary space in line with Foster and Partners’ vision.

Morgan Sindall approached Planet Partitioning to put together a cost proposal for all the internal demountable glazed screens, for the new five-storey Strathclyde Police Station on River East, in Dalmarnock, Glasgow. Working with Cooper Comer Architects and Morgan Sindall, Planet Partitioning used a combination of p100 double glazed partitioning and p20 single glazed partitioning and IsoClear glass doors for each office. Due to the sensitive nature of police work, the building needed very high levels of sound attenuation, exceeding 50 dB Rw between meeting rooms and offices.

Recticel Insulation's Eurothane GP was used in the floor of Lime Tree Passivhaus. Architect Chris Parsons: “Passivhaus requires high levels of insulation and the avoidance of thermal bridging, which the Recticel product helped to achieve.” Jody Murfit, director at contractor Grocott & Murfit: “The project generally was quite challenging due to the curve but the Recticel insulation was easy to install. We just cut it to size, doubled it up and taped it.” Eurothane GP is a high performance rigid polyisocyanurate (PIR) insulation suitable for ground floor applications and compatible with underfloor heating systems.

The living wall island houses an essential air ducting passage, offering a perfect solution to conceal building services and also doubles up this functionality as a display unit with a hd screen wall. Plexal sought a simple contemporary scheme that would act as an attractive focal point as well provide the busy enterprise space with a welcome boost of oxygen, hence the inclusion of multiple air cleaning plants such as spathiphyllum that are highly effective in trapping and absorbing pollutants in the air.

The clean lines of RIO Suspended enhance the exposed coffered slabs, adding bold visual feature and texture to the space. The bespoke ceiling lights are side-lit using a double satin diffuser, emitting soft comfortable light. 299 also supplied lighting for corridors and bathrooms.

This development includes large areas of external elevations & soffits cladded in Accoya. Accoya was also used for the Brise Soleil canopy detailing on the drive-through lane & the double height curtain walling pictured on the front elevations. For this natural aesthetic the pre-finished Accoya profiles were given one (natural plus-ctec) base coat & three top (sansin translucent) coats. As one of the most durable products on the market, Accoya is the ideal material for projects such as this. Accoya is 75% less likely to shrink & swell in variable weather, allowing it to retain its structural integrity.

The existing coal fired power station at Jorf Lasfar located on the Atlantic Coast of El Jaidida was to double in size. Due to this a storage area and waste water Lagoon were required With high potential for pollution from CCR, a sealed and protected geomembrane needed to be installed with sufficient drainage between CCR. ABG Proposed Terrex SNW120 protective geotextile 2mm HDPE membrane and a Pozidrain drainage layer in contact with the coal combustion water. The system provided the solution of drainage protection and filtratiion. Pozidrain has a large factor of safety compared to crushed stone on load.

The cast iron flyscreen air brick has the advantage of protecting the property from insect and rodent ingress but can help stop flooding with this innovative and simple barrier. The flood screen is a cork gasket for our single and double flyscreen air bricks and is simply inserted in the air brick when flooding is likely or imminent in place of the fly mesh. Once the danger has passed the copper fly mesh is replaced and the cork flood screen stored away safely until require again. It is available with our 9x3 and 9x6 cast iron air bricks here

London Wall Place is a new development, with more than 500.000m2, located in the heart of London, between Moorgate and Barbican. This development is comprised by two commercial buildings and will add a large green area to the city. The largest building has about 300.000m2 and rises to a height of 12 floors, and the remaining building, with about 12.000m2, has 16 floors. For this project’s façade weatherproofing, three Effisus solutions were used: Effisus VAP (vapour barrier), Effisus Breather+ (breathable membrane) and Effisus 2Bond DS (double-sided solution for sealing between two surfaces).

A key requirement of this project was for the design and build to have a sustainable structural solution to meet the future needs. Komfort’s double glazed Polar Vision with a 15mm +/- 3-part deflection head and 2-part base was installed. This system was specified due to the line loading over an Atrium. Polar Vision gives you a minimal, seamless style with confident lines and unrestricted views. The system is dry jointed and constructed without mullion posts, offering up to 30 mins fire protection for both integrity and insulation, and can provide up to 48dB (Rw) sound performance.

The project needed to achieve environmental standards and create a collaborative teaching and learning environment. Komfort’s Polar systems covered a large area of the facility. Polar’s single glazed minimalist form is designed with the minimum of components, thus facilitated speed of erection without compromising structural stability and rigidity. The patented bubble joint ensured a virtually frameless system with no vertical posts between modules, corners or three-way junctions. Double glazed Polar’s simplistic method of installation, relocatability and powerful acoustic properties made it an intelligent option for this fit-out.

The LAMILUX Glass Roof PR60 was designed and installed as a continuous atrium using 60 panes of glass covering an area of 14m X 15m. The framing detail ensured a seamless transition to the wall abut at the head, whilst sitting on perimeter supports at the verge and cill. High performing glazing with double silver coating prevents overheating in addition to the glazing designed to be walked on for cleaning and maintenance purposes. LAMILUX were able to provide a better solution than the original concept by using larger panes arranged in four flush tiers installed with a 3° surface inclination.

Over 266m2 of framed panels of Terra-34, which is a grating which conforms to anti-climb guidelines, were made to cover the south, east and west elevations. These were fabricated in 16 different sizes up to 2.5m high and 1m wide and fixed to the structural framework with custom welded plates. Access through the east elevation was provided by a very large double-leaf gate to allow for the removal of large sculptures and installations. The gate was made out of six separate panels within each leaf for an overall size of 4.6x5.3m (hxw).

Surespan has been chosen to design and manufacture all the access hatches for the new £22 million British Antarctic Survey research station, Halley VI, in Antarctica, where scientists will be based to carry out research on the ozone layer. The 28 single and double leaf hatches and 9 wall access panels, which are all fire rated, have been designed to provide scientists easy access throughout the station and as an emergency exit. Having been selected because of their engineering expertise and unique skills, Surespan is proud to be involved in such an exciting project.

Surespan custom designed a hatch to provide access to a Biomass storage plant at the new Criminal Justice Centre, Northampton. The double leaf hatch – measuring 2750mm x 2900mm – is electrically operated by a key switch and has synchronised leaf operation with a safety grid. Rated to FACTA Class A pedestrian loading, it was designed with a chequerplate lid to match the surround and incorporates a rain skirt apron and Sureguard handrail system on both sides. A secondary 1000mm x 1000mm gas spring operated floor hatch was installed with a retractable hand hold and ladder for safe and easy access.

Project involved decking a 350m2 the rooftop of a commercial block in the heart of the city. The owners wanted to create a roof terrace for staff. The customer chose the iDecking complete solution for it's superior look. Installation was carried out on an inverted roof. The contractor laid down a double layer of our aluminium frame onto Wallbarn MegaPad pedestals which provide a stable footing for the framework. The composite Moor Oak boards were stamped into position. Installers were able to achieve a great finish by accurately cutting the boards to fit neatly to edges and corners.

University of Wales in Swansea has invested £8million into the refurbishment, restoration and extension of the Grade II listed former Central Library building to create the new Institute for Sustainable Design. Devised by Powell Dobson Architects, the development incorporates a stunning twin wall façade featuring AluK curtain walling systems, complementing and adding a new dimension to the original design. The modern, double skin façade extension provides an additional 657m2, and incorporates a new reception entrance, workshops, teaching spaces and design studios. The original circular reading room has also been restored and made available as a public venue.

A hugely popular handrail design that ASF have supplied to projects in many locations. The full sized bollards that are used as post uprights give a sense of solidity and permanence, whilst the mitred top gives them just enough of a decorative nature to lift the product beyond a simple post and handrail job. In this project all welds and interfaces were polished back on site so the finished product becomes a complete unit with no visible fixings. With both double and single handrails over multiple flights and angles, this project shows how ASF can manage any project need.

A £14 million 25,000sq ft. food store, the eco-friendly Waitrose in Bagshot, Surrey, boasts stunning contemporary design. Offering an outstanding shopping experience, the building was designed by Phillips Tracey Architects to minimise impact on the surrounding rural environment. Bailey’s products were key to meeting a complex design brief, where aesthetics and performance were crucial. Bailey’s bullnose eaves were specified by Forum Architecture, construction project architect and lead consultant for the retail development. Due to the technical challenges associated with the double-curved eaves systems, Forum knew that Bailey was the only company up to the job.
