Started in November 2015, the latest stage - the centre itself - was recently opened to the public, with work on the final phase recently completed. BAM Construction was the main contractor on the scheme, with architects Mersey Design Group as part of their team. Dortech was the specialist curtain walling sub-contractor. The transformational two-storey glass façade extension was built using 4300m2 of Technal’s Visible Grid and Trame Vertical MX 52 curtain walling at double height; incorporating both glass and spandrel panels.

The University of Hertfordshire project features multiple different mailbox styles, including banks of boxes freestanding with support pedestals and also single mailboxes mounted upon a wall. The COM 2 – 145 mailbox is the chosen product for the external banks of mailboxes. They have been combined with complete weather cladding that ensures that mailboxes are weather resistant and withstand inclement British weather. The ‘town houses’ in this project use a COM 1 – 389 double depth mailbox fitted onto the external wall of the property.

Matting - Haymarket Bus Station


Contract interiors specialist Gradus has supplied primary barrier matting to the new Haymarket bus station, as part of a £13.5milllion new build project, which allows 23 buses to drop off or pick up at any one time. Gradus’ Esplanade 8500 primary barrier matting was installed throughout the new bus station. Constructed from double grey rubber wipers and silver anodised aluminium scraper linking strips, Esplanade 8500 is an ideal solution for this busy environment.

Glazed Basement Access - Chicago

Ast+Dagdelen Architects approached Surespan to manufacture a glazed walk on basement skylight for use at ground level to bring light and a means of delivery access for materials and goods to their model workshop which is situated beneath their architectural practice. The single leaf 500 (19.5?) x 2400mm (95.5?) electrically operated and thermally broken access hatch featured TripleLite 34mm double glazing with a 1.4kN concentrated pedestrian load. The hatch was finished in a polyester powder coating to match Valspar Bronze.

Heavy duty access covers

Surespan Ltd

The UK’s leading access hatch manufacturer Surespan has launched a new range of heavy duty access covers which are designed to take loading up to 16 tonnes. The aluminium alloy hatches can take loadings ranging from 5 to 19 tonnes (FACTA class B to E) and are available in standard single and double leaf sizes. They are gas spring operated, making them easy to open, and come with a range of locking options, including Surespan’s unique locking box.

Biomass Access Cover - Lithuania

Surespan recently travelled to Lithuania to manufacture and supply a floor hatch to enable Finnish energy company Fortum to access their biomass pit at their new energy plant. The 5000 x 5000 mm hydraulically operated, double leaf hatch was designed to be easily operated by an electrically driven pump power pack. Fortum wanted the simplest operation for a grab crane to gain easy access to the biomass plant so Surespan worked with engineering consultants AF Consult to come up with an effective solution.

Swindon Station is back on track with Ultrascape's Mortar Paving System

Ultrascape's BS 7533 compliant mortar paving system has been used to deliver a modern and stylish forecourt outside Swindon railway station. The redevelopment has transformed what was previously a heavy traffic dominated area, into a prestigious pedestrian focused arrival space which features seating, planting, lighting and a millennium clock. Work was carried out by specialist civil engineering contractor, Britannia Construction and included the installation of 500 tonnes of high quality natural granite and Pennant Sandstone using Ultrascape's Pro-Bed HS fine bedding concrete, Flowpoint rapid setting grout and Pro-Prime slurry primer.

Finishing the sleek look were coordinated control panels, switch plates and sockets in a stylish Black Nickel Hartland CFX® design, the sockets featuring USB charge and data points to suit modern living requirements.

Bulthaup Mayfair

With countryside views from the picture window of a contemporary Norfolk holiday home, this bulthaup b3 kitchen was designed with weekend and holiday entertaining in mind. The anthracite aluminium fronted cabinets and stainless-steel worktops contain the stainless-steel appliances for a seamless, unfussy aesthetic, the language of which is continued into the dining area. A powerful ceiling extractor was chosen to eliminate cooking fumes but not the view! The double depth island unit offers generous worktop space and ample storage on both sides. For Genesis Middlesbrough FC is the local team of most of the staff and when Cleveland Land Services Ltd were doing work to the stairs leading to the Directors Box at the stadium we were pleased they kept the work local and went with a Genesis Heavy Duty Nosing. The NHD range is designed for use with Carpet, Carpet Tiles or other resilient flooring in heavy use areas and the Double Channel design chosen not only allowed for the team colours to be utilised but also provides a wider area of anti-slip tread for areas of high traffic.

Novotel, Canary Wharf

Planet Partitioning

Built to celebrate the Novotal brand’s 50th anniversary, the flagship hotel is housed in a 39-floor skyscraper in the heart of the City. Planet worked with Inco Projects to provide an interior glazing solution for the gym and meeting room areas. To complement the industrial aesthetic of the hotel, LOFT100 was used throughout the project, paired with SonoTec double glazed doors with aluminium tracks applied in the same width and colour, providing a uniform style throughout. With LOFT100 achieving up to 56dB Rw and SonoTec up to 42dB Rw, the privacy of the hotel’s guests was ensured.

Oxford Martin Building, Oxfordshire

Planet Partitioning

The Oxford Martin Building at the University of Oxford is a world-leading centre of pioneering research that addresses global challenges from climate change to fuel poverty. Working closely with Berman Guedes Stretton, Planet Partitioning designed and then curved the structural framework of the partitioning to match the internal arches of the building. p100 double glazed partitioning was used to ensure sound didn't travel between meeting rooms. p20 p20 single glazed demountable partitioning was used for the office fronts and where the partitioning had to be curved to match the internal arches.

Wythenshawe Hospital

Artform Urban Furniture Limited

Wythenshawe Hospital has implemented a £17 million development to double its available resources for patients, staff and visitors. Included was the expansion of the children's Emergency Department, with a new purpose built paediatric area, specifically designed to improve the treatment for patients up to 16 years of age. Artform Urban were asked to provide colourful, free-standing seating for a courtyard space, adjacent to the paediatric area. The Loop Arc Bench was offered as a lightweight seating solution that could be weighted down while remaining moveable if necessary.

Clement Windows Group

No other material could have produced such an exquisite end result as steel for this project in Surrey. Clement were contacted by the owners who wished to replace all of their original steel windows and doors. Following careful consideration of what was available Clement's EB24 suite of steel windows was chosen. The stunning double doors benefit from the use of surface mounted cremone bolts instead of a usual lever locking mechanism which means the centre bar of steel is slim and elegant just like those of the outer frames.

The Fish & Chip Shop, Islington, London

Howe Green

A Howe Green 5000 Series Aluminium Access Cover was supplied to The Fish & Chip Shop in Islington. An unobtrusive access solution was required to cover the kitchen’s essential mains drainage services and provide fast access to them for easy maintenance. The access cover was fitted into quarry-tiled steps leading to the kitchen. It was designed to be virtually invisible to prevent any slips or trips – essential within a busy restaurant environment. The cover is double-sealed which means water or bacteria ingress is preventable ensuring that the highest hygiene standards can be maintained.

Lymm Fire Station Changing Place

Innova Care Concepts

Lymm Fire Station was completely unique project; it was new-build station that doubled up as an educational centre. It had all kinds of different environments and scenarios built-in to give visitors the ability to learn what to do in various emergency situations. As such, they wanted to include a Changing Place facility in the new building. We’ve been working with the Changing Places campaign for a long time, and we were able to design a fully-compliant facility complete with a wall-mounted X-Y hoist system. Komfort Partitioning Ltd

The main focus points were to improve internal aesthetics and to enhance the customer experience of the building. Both Brown and Bancroft and Bridge Architects were contracted to create calm, contemporary and exciting office spaces. Komfort’s Kross Glaze was installed on the 5th floor. Kross glaze is a development of our existing systems (Polar Single Glazed / Polar Double Glazed and 600 series) but provides a design solution to the recent trend of Crittall glazing within residential and commercial interiors. Kross Glaze is an intelligent solution for offices where space is precious.

SUNPAL Skylight at the Ringwood Aquanation Centre in Melbourne, Australia

Palram Europe Ltd

Palram worked with the architects on Aquanation from 2012 until its completion in 2015. The specified roofing system, SUNPAL White Opal Diffuser Plus 18 mm, features a double diffuser effect to soften the transmitted natural daylight as well as the inner reflections of electric lighting during dark hours. The multiwall polycarbonate architectural panel system was integrated into the skylights along with 3 types of curved roof deck finishes. Palram provided a unique span-bar rafter system with a custom bracket design to enable this challenging installation.

Summit Centre - Solar Panel System

Procter Contracts

The Taff Bargoed Climbing Centre has recently installed a solar panel system to the front of their complex. Due to the nature of the solar panels, they needed to ensure that no one could gain access into the area without permission. After a site survey, it was suggested by a Procter Contracts representative that they should have a 2.4m high pro-mesh fencing system. The system provided was installed with a 2m wide double leaf access gate to match. By carrying out the works it meant the solar farm was secured from the public to re-open the complex.

Mayfair House

TRC Windows

Carlos Place in Mayfair, London, was originally developed by the Grosvenor family. Opulent number 14, also known as Mayfair House, was built by the Holloway Brothers in 1921 to the designs of Wimperis and Simpson. TRC Windows were commissioned by architects Derek Williams Ltd to design, supply and install 95 Heritage Box Sash Windows, casement windows and doors to closely match the original yet deliver modern thermal insulation. In total we used approximately 890 individual Slimlite double glazed units for the project, all in oak frames.

Roscoe Building, Manchester University

TRC Windows

Built in 1964, the Roscoe Building is the hub of the Faculty of Science at Manchester University. Designed by Cruickshank and Seward, it was named after 1860s Professor of Chemistry, Henry Roscoe. In 2009 we supplied the replacement windows for a refurbishment project undertaken by architects Farrell & Clark. The original windows were of German origin and advanced for their time: center pivot windows, to maximize light in the laboratories. To keep a consistent look we supplied the same style of windows but aluminium clad on the external face for ease of maintenance; and double glazed for energy efficiency.

Etched Glass Access from TORMAX

TORMAX United Kingdom Ltd

Providing access into the newly refurbished reception area of a listed building on the University of Edinburgh campus, TORMAX has installed a single and double set of automatic sliding doors, creating an impressive glass entrance system that is fully compliant with the Equality Act 2010. Both doors are powered by TORMAX iMotion operators which feature none of the working parts that generally wear out, such as gears and brushes, ensuring exceptionally reliable performance long into the future. The glass is finished with an impressive etched manifestation representing the four campuses of the University.

St George Hospital, Kogarah, Sydney, NSW

St George Hospital in Kogarah, Sydney, is currently undergoing a $307 million redevelopment. The centrepiece of this redevelopment is a new eight-level Acute Services Building, which will include an intensive care department, eight operating theatres, 128 additional inpatient beds and a rooftop helipad.

Situated at the heart of Hammersmith Town Centre in West London, the recently refurbished late 70’s building Glen House offers approximately 32,000 sq ft of high spec CAT A office space with a few perks like bike parking, showers and roof terrace. The clean lines of RIO Suspended enhance the exposed coffered slabs, adding bold visual feature and texture to the space. The bespoke ceiling lights are side-lit using a double satin diffuser, emitting soft comfortable light. 299 also supplied lighting for corridors and bathrooms.

Coal Ash Containment, Basal and Capping, Pozidrain, Jorf Lasfar, Morocca

ABG creative geosynthetic engineering

The existing coal fired power station at Jorf Lasfar located on the Atlantic Coast of El Jaidida was to double in size. Due to this a storage area and waste water Lagoon were required With high potential for pollution from CCR, a sealed and protected geomembrane needed to be installed with sufficient drainage between CCR. ABG Proposed Terrex SNW120 protective geotextile 2mm HDPE membrane and a Pozidrain drainage layer in contact with the coal combustion water. The system provided the solution of drainage protection and filtratiion. Pozidrain has a large factor of safety compared to crushed stone on load.

Accoya cladding for the first ever two-storey KFC company store


This development includes large areas of external elevations & soffits cladded in Accoya. Accoya was also used for the Brise Soleil canopy detailing on the drive-through lane & the double height curtain walling pictured on the front elevations. For this natural aesthetic the pre-finished Accoya profiles were given one (natural plus-ctec) base coat & three top (sansin translucent) coats. As one of the most durable products on the market, Accoya is the ideal material for projects such as this. Accoya is 75% less likely to shrink & swell in variable weather, allowing it to retain its structural integrity.

Stove Vents, Log Burner Vents and Cast Iron Oven and Range ventilators

The Stove and Fire Vent is the ideal interior vent to compliment a log burner or stove. The cast iron body is available in a polished pewter effect, which has been hand finished by us in our workshop or can be purchased bare metal for contractors or property owners to finish on site. The pewter finish stove vent will enhance any interiors. When the 100mm spigot is connected to an air source it provides 3000mm2 of free area for combustion air for a room fitted with a log burner or stove up to 10KW. Double up for larger appliances.

Holland Green, Kensington

CCL Wetrooms

The luxurious apartments at Holland Green required the supply of wetroom drainage and waterproofing solutions into 134 bathrooms, suitable for use on a solid floor. CCL Wetrooms specified the installation of a Linear Screed Drain with a bespoke length Stone-Infill Grill into each shower area. The Linear Screed Drain was positioned flush against the shower wall and installed with either a single or double trap, capable of coping with flow rates of up to 56 l/min. To waterproof the floors and walls of the wetrooms, we recommended the installation of Tilesafe waterproofing membrane and Flexible Wall Membrane.

Southmead Hospital, Bristol

Howe Green manufactured over 100 Visedge Floor Access Covers for Bristol’s £430million state-of-the-art Southmead Hospital. A heavy duty and tamper-resistant solution was required to provide access to underfloor drainage systems. Developed for use within flexible sheet flooring systems and supplied with a double seal Howe Green’s Visedge Covers offered the highest standards of hygiene and security, ideal for a hospital environment. A number of 7500 Series Stainless Steel Access Covers were also required for installation in the grounds, where a heavier loading was required.

The Winter Garden, Bluewater Shopping Centre

Howe Green designed and supplied made-to-measure tree pit covers for a new social dining experience - The Winter Garden at Bluewater. The bespoke panels and frames facilitate access to the root chamber and make maintenance of the highly valuable trees straightforward. The covers were made from 304-grade stainless steel. Each tree pit was manufactured to individual size requirements and to accommodate light fittings. They were supplied with a double-seal to prevent dirt ingress which also helps protect the tree and keep the soil free from contamination.

Nestled between listed buildings in the heart of London with views over St Paul’s, this 108,000 sq ft cutting-edge office building was designed for maximum sustainability. In designing the building, PLP Architecture was mindful that their spatial and material approach should also be directly informed by these prestigious adjacencies. With sustainability and heritage at the forefront of the design, we worked with Aedas Architects, to specify INTRAform Double Module Entrance Matting with a bronze anodised finish and anthracite fibre insert for the 10,000 sq ft grand entrance. The family chose from the Lomax + Wood made-to-order range of timber flush casements and doors. 42 Double glazed fully weather-stripped flush casement windows, French doors and entrance doors. Dual colour factory finished paint colour. White internally and Squirrel grey externally. Engineered timber for stability and durability. Espagnolette locking for security. Faceted bay windows. Polished chrome ironmongery.

For the classrooms, p100 demountable double glazed partitioning ensures high acoustic attenuation. Planet Partitioning sourced and installed all the doors: timber-frame white doors that are easy to maintain and repair. At the academy’s heart is an atrium fire rated to 60/60 integrity and insulation, thanks to Planet Partitioning’s FireStop 25mm glass. These glass panels also feature in the library, which overlooks the atrium. For walkways and gangways, p20 demountable glass partitioning features where acoustic performance isn’t critical – but it ensures a modern and contemporary space in line with Foster and Partners’ vision.

Sir Duncan Rice Library, Aberdeen

Planet Partitioning

Over 18 months, Planet Partitioning worked within a budget to achieve the sound attenuation levels required for the Sir Duncan Rice Library, using a combination of p100 double glazed partitioning and p20 single glazed frameless glass partition systems. We also installed timber doors throughout the library and was responsible for drywalling, which included solid partitioning between rooms and plasterboard wall lining. Planet used 27mm, low-profile frameless glazing to create a peaceful and open plan library with a spiralling off-centre atrium with 13km of shelving.
