Harmer Building Drainage, part of Alumasc Water Management Systems (AWMS), has recently supplied its leading SML below ground drainage system to a major London development. The project, sited at The Minories, Aldgate, sees the introduction of the first Canopy by Hilton hotel in the UK which is scheduled to open in 2018. Working with contractors PCW Drainage Ltd and A J Morrisroe, Harmer supplied below ground drainage for the hotel’s new double storey basement box.

Procter secured the site with our Pro-sure SR1 rated Security Fencing and matching pedestrian access gate this was completed with a mechanical code lock. In order to provide an element of our acoustic capability we supplied and installed a boarded timber enclosure with double leaf gates to the generator. We then installed a Trackless Bi-Folding Automatic Speed Gate for quick access and egress along with a Nice M7 automatic traffic barrier for emergency services exit route.

Ultrascape's BS 7533 compliant mortar paving system has been used to deliver a modern and stylish forecourt outside Swindon railway station. The redevelopment has transformed what was previously a heavy traffic dominated area, into a prestigious pedestrian focused arrival space which features seating, planting, lighting and a millennium clock. Work was carried out by specialist civil engineering contractor, Britannia Construction and included the installation of 500 tonnes of high quality natural granite and Pennant Sandstone using Ultrascape's Pro-Bed HS fine bedding concrete, Flowpoint rapid setting grout and Pro-Prime slurry primer.

20 Gresham Street occupies a privileged position in the heart of the City, diagonally opposite the City of London’s Guildhall entrance and within minutes of landmark institutions such as the Royal Exchange and the Bank of England. The Milk Street/Gresham Street corner is highly visible, due to the geography of the street and the placement of neighbouring buildings. It has a distinctive colouration and its form is curvilinear at roof level. At ground level, the distinctive double revolving door design anchors the design and provides an extremely powerful focal point.

The 13,766 sq m building offers large flexible floor plates and an impressive four storey atrium and double height entrance hall. Extensive perimeter glazing grants a high level of natural day lighting and panoramic views. Underfloor air conditioning was specified for the upper three floors of the IQ building occupied by energy giant Centrica. The project highlights the speed and ease of installation capability of underfloor systems; only three months passing from enquiry to order.

The Cathedral is one of the most breathtaking, famous sites in London. Designed in the English Baroque style by Sir Christopher Wren, this Cathedral dates back to the 17th Century. At 365 feet, it was the tallest building from 1710 to 1967. However, more dynamic, daring and modernist architecture has seen buildings in recent years eclipse this incredible monument in height. We worked with architects Caroe Architecture who specified ALAVO for use in Superloos as well as double and four-user ALAVO washstations.

Constructed from double grey rubber wipers and silver anodised aluminium scraper linking strips, Esplanade 8500 is an ideal solution for this busy environment.

Severn Trent Water is one of England’s 10 water authorities, supplying water and sewerage services to eight million people. Working with Associated Architects and BAM, Planet calculated the line loads for the atrium and installed seven storeys of frameless atrium glazing. This allows natural light to flow throughout the building, while using Planet frameless single-glazing ensures maximum visibility to create a seamless, modern finish. For the meeting room and offices, Planet installed bespoke designed framed double glazing.

LAMILUX designed and installed a shallow pitched glass roof for the central courtyard atrium of the student accommodation halls. The 60 equal glass panels formed the 7m X 29m rooflight featuring a sound reduction index of 38dB with double layered heat protection glass. Why LAMILUX were chosen ? LAMILUX could install with a surface inclination of just 3° ? The architect wanted to achieve a class 2 roof for safety of maintenance personnel whilst maintaining a low pitch

The University of Hertfordshire project features multiple different mailbox styles, including banks of boxes freestanding with support pedestals and also single mailboxes mounted upon a wall. The COM 2 – 145 mailbox is the chosen product for the external banks of mailboxes. They have been combined with complete weather cladding that ensures that mailboxes are weather resistant and withstand inclement British weather. The ‘town houses’ in this project use a COM 1 – 389 double depth mailbox fitted onto the external wall of the property.

Surespan recently travelled to Lithuania to manufacture and supply a floor hatch to enable Finnish energy company Fortum to access their biomass pit at their new energy plant. The 5000 x 5000 mm hydraulically operated, double leaf hatch was designed to be easily operated by an electrically driven pump power pack. Fortum wanted the simplest operation for a grab crane to gain easy access to the biomass plant so Surespan worked with engineering consultants AF Consult to come up with an effective solution.

Ast+Dagdelen Architects approached Surespan to manufacture a glazed walk on basement skylight for use at ground level to bring light and a means of delivery access for materials and goods to their model workshop which is situated beneath their architectural practice. The single leaf 500 (19.5?) x 2400mm (95.5?) electrically operated and thermally broken access hatch featured TripleLite 34mm double glazing with a 1.4kN concentrated pedestrian load. The hatch was finished in a polyester powder coating to match Valspar Bronze.

Started in November 2015, the latest stage - the centre itself - was recently opened to the public, with work on the final phase recently completed. BAM Construction was the main contractor on the scheme, with architects Mersey Design Group as part of their team. Dortech was the specialist curtain walling sub-contractor. The transformational two-storey glass façade extension was built using 4300m2 of Technal’s Visible Grid and Trame Vertical MX 52 curtain walling at double height; incorporating both glass and spandrel panels.

In-keeping with the development’s chic design, Hamilton’s Smart Multi-Room Audio system was installed – allowing full control of music in any room via coloured touchscreen panels or remotely via Hamilton's App. 4-Room/4-Zone control units in each apartments, with built-in DAB radio. Finishing the sleek look were coordinated control panels, switch plates and sockets in a stylish Black Nickel Hartland CFX® design, the sockets featuring USB charge and data points to suit modern living requirements.

With countryside views from the picture window of a contemporary Norfolk holiday home, this bulthaup b3 kitchen was designed with weekend and holiday entertaining in mind. The anthracite aluminium fronted cabinets and stainless-steel worktops contain the stainless-steel appliances for a seamless, unfussy aesthetic, the language of which is continued into the dining area. A powerful ceiling extractor was chosen to eliminate cooking fumes but not the view! The double depth island unit offers generous worktop space and ample storage on both sides. Providing access into the newly refurbished reception area of a listed building on the University of Edinburgh campus, TORMAX has installed a single and double set of automatic sliding doors, creating an impressive glass entrance system that is fully compliant with the Equality Act 2010. Both doors are powered by TORMAX iMotion operators which feature none of the working parts that generally wear out, such as gears and brushes, ensuring exceptionally reliable performance long into the future. The glass is finished with an impressive etched manifestation representing the four campuses of the University.

Sheppard Robson was commissioned by London & Manchester Assurance to design a landmark building on the corner of Finsbury Pavement and South Place, London. The result is The Helicon, one of London’s first sustainable buildings to combine retail and offices into a building that is energy-efficient and economical to run. The office entrance foyer is a double volume space, some 9m high, enclosed externally by a suspended curved steel and glass façade, forming a triple-glazed void. The offices maximise the available natural daylight through the use of clear un-tinted glass.

Wythenshawe Hospital has implemented a £17 million development to double its available resources for patients, staff and visitors. Included was the expansion of the children's Emergency Department, with a new purpose built paediatric area, specifically designed to improve the treatment for patients up to 16 years of age. Artform Urban were asked to provide colourful, free-standing seating for a courtyard space, adjacent to the paediatric area. The Loop Arc Bench was offered as a lightweight seating solution that could be weighted down while remaining moveable if necessary.

Canal Architectural recently designed, manufactured and installed a grand sweeping staircase structure to the iconic, Regents Crescent in London. The centre of the Crescent features a magnificent double-height entrance lobby with three helical staircases. The grand, sweeping helical staircase design created a real connection between the floors and every spindle was unique in design to create fluidity and movement in the installation. All three staircases were site sprayed and featured an anolok bronze finish for a contemporary look. The overall design aesthetic reflected the elegance and grandeur of the Regency period.

Double and triple track AluK sliding doors and windows form a key element in an award-winning residential development on Old Ford Road, alongside London’s Hertford Union Canal and overlooking Victoria Park. Three houses, three duplexes and two flats have replaced derelict storage structures on a tight, 465m2 triangular site developed by Earth Residential. The geometric design, by architects pH+ Architects, echoes both the industrial wharf buildings which characterise the canal side and the Georgian terraces which surround the park.

No other material could have produced such an exquisite end result as steel for this project in Surrey. Clement were contacted by the owners who wished to replace all of their original steel windows and doors. Following careful consideration of what was available Clement's EB24 suite of steel windows was chosen. The stunning double doors benefit from the use of surface mounted cremone bolts instead of a usual lever locking mechanism which means the centre bar of steel is slim and elegant just like those of the outer frames.

When the John Holland group needed assistance with designing an End of Trip Facility (EOT) for the new Perth Children’s Hospital project, they turned to Cora Bike Rack for advice. With several challenging spatial elements and the requirement to provide AS2890.3 compliant bike racks and layout, Cora assisted in the bike rack selection which included both horizontal and vertical racks. The most efficient use of space in this project was achieved by including E3VR vertical racks mounted to E3VR-P double sided mounting posts.

The Oxford Martin Building at the University of Oxford is a world-leading centre of pioneering research that addresses global challenges from climate change to fuel poverty. Working closely with Berman Guedes Stretton, Planet Partitioning designed and then curved the structural framework of the partitioning to match the internal arches of the building. p100 double glazed partitioning was used to ensure sound didn't travel between meeting rooms. p20 p20 single glazed demountable partitioning was used for the office fronts and where the partitioning had to be curved to match the internal arches.

Palram worked with the architects on Aquanation from 2012 until its completion in 2015. The specified roofing system, SUNPAL White Opal Diffuser Plus 18 mm, features a double diffuser effect to soften the transmitted natural daylight as well as the inner reflections of electric lighting during dark hours. The multiwall polycarbonate architectural panel system was integrated into the skylights along with 3 types of curved roof deck finishes. Palram provided a unique span-bar rafter system with a custom bracket design to enable this challenging installation.

Built to celebrate the Novotal brand’s 50th anniversary, the flagship hotel is housed in a 39-floor skyscraper in the heart of the City. Planet worked with Inco Projects to provide an interior glazing solution for the gym and meeting room areas. To complement the industrial aesthetic of the hotel, LOFT100 was used throughout the project, paired with SonoTec double glazed doors with aluminium tracks applied in the same width and colour, providing a uniform style throughout. With LOFT100 achieving up to 56dB Rw and SonoTec up to 42dB Rw, the privacy of the hotel’s guests was ensured.

The Taff Bargoed Climbing Centre has recently installed a solar panel system to the front of their complex. Due to the nature of the solar panels, they needed to ensure that no one could gain access into the area without permission. After a site survey, it was suggested by a Procter Contracts representative that they should have a 2.4m high pro-mesh fencing system. The system provided was installed with a 2m wide double leaf access gate to match. By carrying out the works it meant the solar farm was secured from the public to re-open the complex.

For Genesis Middlesbrough FC is the local team of most of the staff and when Cleveland Land Services Ltd were doing work to the stairs leading to the Directors Box at the stadium we were pleased they kept the work local and went with a Genesis Heavy Duty Nosing. The NHD range is designed for use with Carpet, Carpet Tiles or other resilient flooring in heavy use areas and the Double Channel design chosen not only allowed for the team colours to be utilised but also provides a wider area of anti-slip tread for areas of high traffic.

Lymm Fire Station was completely unique project; it was new-build station that doubled up as an educational centre. It had all kinds of different environments and scenarios built-in to give visitors the ability to learn what to do in various emergency situations. As such, they wanted to include a Changing Place facility in the new building. We’ve been working with the Changing Places campaign for a long time, and we were able to design a fully-compliant facility complete with a wall-mounted X-Y hoist system. A Howe Green 5000 Series Aluminium Access Cover was supplied to The Fish & Chip Shop in Islington. An unobtrusive access solution was required to cover the kitchen’s essential mains drainage services and provide fast access to them for easy maintenance. The access cover was fitted into quarry-tiled steps leading to the kitchen. It was designed to be virtually invisible to prevent any slips or trips – essential within a busy restaurant environment. The cover is double-sealed which means water or bacteria ingress is preventable ensuring that the highest hygiene standards can be maintained.

The main focus points were to improve internal aesthetics and to enhance the customer experience of the building. Both Brown and Bancroft and Bridge Architects were contracted to create calm, contemporary and exciting office spaces. Komfort’s Kross Glaze was installed on the 5th floor. Kross glaze is a development of our existing systems (Polar Single Glazed / Polar Double Glazed and 600 series) but provides a design solution to the recent trend of Crittall glazing within residential and commercial interiors. Kross Glaze is an intelligent solution for offices where space is precious.

Built in 1964, the Roscoe Building is the hub of the Faculty of Science at Manchester University. Designed by Cruickshank and Seward, it was named after 1860s Professor of Chemistry, Henry Roscoe. In 2009 we supplied the replacement windows for a refurbishment project undertaken by architects Farrell & Clark. The original windows were of German origin and advanced for their time: center pivot windows, to maximize light in the laboratories. To keep a consistent look we supplied the same style of windows but aluminium clad on the external face for ease of maintenance; and double glazed for energy efficiency.

Carlos Place in Mayfair, London, was originally developed by the Grosvenor family. Opulent number 14, also known as Mayfair House, was built by the Holloway Brothers in 1921 to the designs of Wimperis and Simpson. TRC Windows were commissioned by architects Derek Williams Ltd to design, supply and install 95 Heritage Box Sash Windows, casement windows and doors to closely match the original yet deliver modern thermal insulation. In total we used approximately 890 individual Slimlite double glazed units for the project, all in oak frames.
