Founded in 2002, the Gardens of Peace Muslim cemetery is located in a green belt area in Chigwell, London. Beautifully landscaped and purpose-built, the cemetery is a calm, comforting space for the local Muslim community. Earlier this year the Outdoor Deck Company were commissioned to supply and install high quality composite deck boards to create a large deck area surrounding the new cemetery building. Providing an attractive but future-proof solution, composite decking was specified for its anti-slip, mould-free and low-maintenance attributes providing a safe, less slippery surface for the year-round cemetery visitors.

The Berkeley Groups' stunning London apartments required the installation of wetroom & waterproofing solutions into 188 wetrooms, suitable for a screeded floor construction. Linear Wall Drains with Stone-Infill Grills were specified into the apartments and penthouses. A high build latex system incorporating insulation boards and HBL-50 levelling compound was installed to the desired depth of 22mm from finished screed level, before the installation of Linear Screed Decs. Linear wall Drains & Stone Infill Grills of varying lengths were installed against the shower walls prior to waterproofing with RIW Tilesafe on the floors and RIW FWM on the walls.

The Donkey Sanctuary had a new veterinary hospital designed for one of their sites where high-performance coatings were required to resist power washing and prevent the spread of germs from animals. Various CS products were used for this project, including a selection of CS’ Wallglaze range for parts of the hospital and Visitor Centre according to area usage, possibility of damage, and cleaning arrangements. CS Wallflex provided chemical and scrub resistance for testing rooms and above cushion boards in operating theatres. CS Armourglaze™ with large fibreglass reinforcement on walls and light fibreglass reinforcement on ceilings was also used.

Rockcliffe Hall blends indoor and outdoor areas to create a luxurious spa experience. Xsite Architecture specified Trex Contour® composite deck boards in Sand Brown in the Spa Garden outdoor area around the two hot pools: the infinity edge pool and the warm Jacuzzi, and also for the relaxing lounging area surrounded by landscaped gardens. Trex Contour® was selected for its non-slip properties – essential for a poolside setting. The fact that Trex Contour® is low maintenance and fade and stain resistant make is an excellent choice. Easy installation of the product meant that disruption was kept to a minimum.

Our client designed and built a spectacular contemporary new home. He decided to include a sauna to complement his level deck central bathtub in the master bathroom. The brief was to create a light modern cabin with clean low iron glazing to the main facia. The space allocated was wide but shallow and the challenge was to achieve a cabin which appeared spacious and comfortable for the two occupants to enjoy together. We chose a free standing, multi- climate heater around which carefully designed bespoke benching was constructed in smooth blond Aspen to match the deep horizontal wall boards.

Five of the best selling decors were chosen from the Westag UK 5.2m range of laminates with matching PP ( square ) edging material, and the decision was made to offer the worktops at any given size per 100mm to give great flexibility within budget, but also with design choice, especially when combined with a stocked radius board. Breakfast bars and a larger range of decors all followed suit.

Nene Park is 1,725 acres of stunning green space in Peterborough managed by the Nene Park Trust and a team of volunteers. The park offers a range of activities for visitors of all ages. Including walking and cycle trails. A new 750-meter boardwalk was built in the Park’s Bluebell Wood as part of the 4km Bluebell trail. Gripsure supplied over 8,400 linear meters of Gripsure Pro castellated non-slip decking for the boardwalk. The grooved deck board profile benefits from two durable non-slip inserts that deliver a slip resistant finish all year round.

The brief for this extensive refit called for a calm, bright and joyous space with elements of Narnia and Alice in Wonderland. Solid, European Oak, tumbled parquet blocks were chosen to create a non-linear space with an air of authenticity, whilst a distressed, UV oiled, European Oak character grade engineered board was chosen for the basement and staircases to tie in with the blocks whilst providing a hardwearing floor which required less maintenance. “Havwoods were excellent. News - Pressed Recess Now Available - Freeform Wet Zones or Recessed Areas are Now Possible!

Leading stainless steel specialist, GEC Anderson limited, have released details of an exciting new ‘wet zone’ concept. Available now, the new wet zone option enables specifiers to include a pressed recess anywhere within the stainless steel worktop area. Typically, the recess would be formed around sink bowl(s) but it can also be used to create lowered areas for other applications. For example, to locate chopping boards or to act as a general catchment area. The pressed recess detail is 3mm deep and can be formed in any size and position. It has a minimum radius of 10mm.

Colour co-ordination for housing scheme with Crown Trade Fastflow

A Midlands-based housing association turned to Crown Trade Fastflow to deliver a splash of colour, with a low odour application and fast-drying times for the comfort and convenience of residents. Lyng Community Association, a not-for-profit organisation, brought in Crown Paints to specify the pioneering water-based system for the redecoration of corridors in three blocks of flats in West Bromwich. Doors, window sills and skirting boards were decorated with Crown Trade Fastflow Quick Dry Gloss, over Crown Trade Fastflow Quick Dry Primer Undercoat. The work was carried out by Hankinson Painting Contractors from their West Bromwich site.

Holyrood Student Residence - Edinburgh

Built to service the University of Edinburgh, the Holyrood Student Residence is in the heart of Edinburgh’s historic old town. When opened in 2016 the development provided over 1,100 new student rooms and enjoys an array of on-site student resource, amenity and social spaces. As the building was more than 18 metres in height Dryvit's comprehensive BR135 and Loss Prevention Certification Board (LPCB) fire approvals were instrumental in satisfying both building control and insurer requirements for the project, which allowed the cost effective expanded polystyrene (EPS) based Outsulation insulated render system to be specified for use on the scheme.

Accoya weatherboards selected for a private residence in New Zealand

Designed by Trevor Wilson (Architecture 37 o) & constructed by Harbour City Builders, Accoya was chosen for the cladding of this Orewa beachfront home. The Accoya profiles were created using a custom rusticated board with a bandsawn face, before being painted and finished using Resene Ironsand which provided the overall dark matt effect. The bandsawn face shows off the bespoke natural wood grain of the Accoya wood, giving it a warm texture in comparison to the concrete. Because of Accoya’s improved stability, coatings such as this can last up to two times longer in comparison to other hardwoods.

Bringing Art to the Heart of the Campus

ROCKPANEL® façades have formed the stunning canvas for a specially commissioned, three storey carving on the new ‘Heart of the Campus’ building at Sheffield Hallam University. The artwork by Artist Christopher Tipping are conveyed through dynamic mark making and linear drawing, routed into the ROCKPANEL surface. Michael Spencer and Gemma Wilson from HLM Architects explained: “The product doesn’t expand or contract with atmospheric conditions and is unaffected by moisture, so it needed no special treatment even though the base board was made visible when routing the design". The project achieved its target BREEAM rating of ‘Very Good’.

Rendered cladding for timber frame houses on these 8 new builds set in the grounds of a Manor House. Using the ProWall rendered rainscreen cladding system. Our ProWall rendered cladding gives a contemporary finish for these spacious familiy properties. We worked closely with this build in North Devon, giving site support at the battening, boarding, and rendering stages to ensure the ProWall system was applied to specification. SAS Europe also trained 15 members of the application team at a day course in our render training centre. Finished with ProRend Colourtex silicone thin coat render, available in various colours and textures.

iDecking walkway in high profile modern style home

The client was looking to replace an old 67 metre long wooden walkway surrounding a pool. Their contractor recommended the Decking system due to the low profile aluminium substructure and moisture-proof composite boards which require far less ongoing maintenance. The installer removed the old decking to reveal the sub base, then used Wallbarn’s heavy duty MegaPad pedestals to underpin the iDecking rail system. Our proposed laying pattern complemented the architect’s original design, drawing the eye down the length of the walkway. The entire job took two weeks to complete. The client is delighted with the results.

iDecking transforms flat roof into a beautiful leisure area

Wallbarn was approached by a commercial client. The client, with a rapidly growing workforce, was expanding, but wanted to utilise existing space to avoid moving premises. A disused rooftop was earmarked for conversion into an outdoor eating and leisure area for staff. Wallbarn’s unique iDecking system was chosen to deck the terrace. Our service team scoped the project, proposing 313m2 of ‘Terra’ iDecking boards, the EasyClick aluminium rail system, underpinned by our heavy-duty MegaPad adjustable pedestals. We were on site before, during and after installation to support the installers throughout the project. The terrace is transformed into a beautiful space.

With previous roof re-coverings proving problematic, two key requirements were highlighted, building the thermal performance to help save energy, and improving robustness, to mitigate damage caused by vandalism. The architect worked closely with Sarnafil to ensure the chosen roofing products provided the required detail, specification and performance. A Sarnafil HD bonded system was specified guaranteeing a high quality and durable roof. By combining the thickest single ply membrane available – 2mm – and the robust insulation board – SarnaTherm HD – the Sarnafil HD system offered a long-term, resilient and well-insulated roofing system with very low thermal conductivity.

Focus On Social Housing – St Matthews Estate, Brixton

St Matthew’s estate in Brixton was a grey, crime ridden housing development constructed in the late 1960’s when two social landlords were brought on board by Lambeth council to remodel the estate. The redevelopment included 12 new zero energy homes for shared ownership which went on to win the Low Energy Building of the Year Awards in 2006. Bereco manufactured the energy efficient timber tilt and turn windows and patio doors for the new homes and were designed with top specification 24mm glazing systems to give optimal energy performance, without, the zero energy rating would not have been achieved.

Buzon UK were commissioned alongside The Outdoor Deck Company to refurbish the external terraces of several top floor apartments located on Nile Street, moments from Old Street, London. The brand new GRAD invisible fixing clip system was supplied and installed by the Outdoor Deck Company, their first ever GRAD installation in the UK. Buzon UK supplied and installed PB pedestals, which were placed under each rail to support the GRAD ThermoAsh deck boards. The GRAD system can either be fitted onto conventional timber joists, or mounted onto the bespoke support rail system.

Accoya used in the construction of new five star Indian hotel

Ventilated garage doors enable seamless integration of vertical timber cladding

Bespoke garage and car port doors from Rundum Meir, which provide natural ventilation and daylighting into enclosed garage spaces, can deliver a seamless aesthetic result in contemporary architecture featuring vertical timber board-on-batten cladding. This is illustrated at the Abode development in Cambridgeshire, where the architects delivered uniformity across different housing styles using a limited palette of materials. Horizontal and vertical cladding was extended into the doors for the car ports manufactured in matching oak. iDecking Project - Finchampstead, Berkshire

This 115m² project was a large luxury new-build. The decking required two distinct build-up methods around the house. One section was on a waterproofing membrane, the other on a steel framed walkway. Adjustable support pedestals were loose-laid onto the membrane. iDecking aluminium rail system was set onto the pedestals and EasyClick boards were clicked into place. Pedestals lifted the decking structure off the membrane allowing free drainage and creating a level surface on the falling roof. Aluminium rails were mechanically fixed to the steel structure and the whole terrace was set to one, seamless level wrapping around the house.

Senior Project Manager Beattie, Benedict O’Halloran, comments: “We are now about to start work on some detached units which will be modular, but all of them use Magply boards for their racking strength, acoustic performance and fire resistance.“ Magply offers excellent racking strength, impact or pull-out resistance and all round ease of use in a variety of applications. Back to basics with Polyflor vinyl flooring at Cheshunt School

Vinyl flooring from Polyflor’s safety and homogeneous flooring collections was recently installed through new facilities at Cheshunt School in Hertfordshire. Approximately 2000m² of flooring from the Mystique PUR, Prestige PUR and Polysafe Mosaic PUR ranges was fitted at the secondary school by Flortec Ltd working for construction company Beard. Ideally suited to busy education environments, Mystique PUR in Titanio was used in classrooms while Prestige PUR in Grey Marl was chosen for corridors, staircases and other circulation areas. Polysafe Mosaic PUR safety flooring in Grey Fusion was selected for use in the school’s science classrooms and toilets areas.
