The 1000kg through-car lift moves bicycles and a 1100 litre wheelie bin between the ground floor and the basement storage facility in this extensively reconfigured and refurbished building located on King Street.

Established in 1992, University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust is one of the UK’s largest teaching Trusts and are responsible for managing two major hospitals in Coventry and Rugby, which serve a population of over a million people.Along with the healthcare of the local population, the Trust is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the buildings and land, which has included a new 1,600-spce car park at the University Hospital in Coventry, which has featured on the BBC’s Hospital show recently.

For the exterior metal cladding, Johnstone’s Metal Defence System Steel & Cladding Topcoat in black was used to provide excellent protection from corrosion, ensuring the building will continue to stand out for years to come. Johnstone’s Covaplus Vinyl Matt, specified in both off white and orange, was applied to the dealership’s interior to showcase the superb cars on show, with a superb finish free from flashing.

Jaguar Land Rover's site in Solihull is a major operation for the global car manufacturer. The nature of the production and logistics centre means that there is constantly high flow of industrial and domestic vehicle traffic around the building, as well as pedestrians. Brandsafe designed, supplied and installed a range of safety systems to meet the needs of the client, both aesthetically and operationally. The new pedestrian walkway system is a key component of this, with safety barriers and gates, as well as highly visible HGV clatter bars to help protect against vehicle collisions.

The flooring requirement at this museum in Leicester stipulated a safe and cleanable seamless finish to exhibit the discovery of Richard III's remains and the story behind the Battle of Bosworth. A simple black finish was specified in keeping with the design of this facility. The exhibition takes visitors through the history of the Wars of The Roses and then fast forwards 500 years to a Leicester car park where a discovery was made. Resuflor self smoother was installed at 3mm thickness across the floors and this was sealed Resupen WB Satin Black to give the desired sheen finish.

Southampton Airport is an international airport serving over 40 destinations. As the 18th busiest UK airport, it handled over 1.7 million passengers in 2013. Safety and security are paramount at any airport and emergency procedures and facilities need to be flawless and well maintained. Improvements were required to the emergency staircases in the airport’s multi-story car park. Previously, only a yellow strip was painted on the edge of the concrete steps across the 5 stairways, which meant the potential slip hazard was great.

Triton has supplied 3,280kg of TT Admix, its BBA certified concrete waterproofing system, to a prestigious new build project in West London. The project is a new car dealership situated between the M4 flyover and the site of Brentwood FC's new stadium. The construction comprises a watertight concrete base with welded sheet piled walls and a watertight concrete capping beam to provide a Type B integral waterproofing solution to BS 8102 (2009). On top of the slab is a steel framed structure.

ASF were chosen to supply the 3 rail quayside post for the Marine Lake reserve in Southport, and area of waterside walks, gardens and leisure activities. The ASF quayside posts are manufactured from 100% recycled cast iron (made for used car brake discs), with rails from 275 carbon steel.The incredible longevity of cast iron (expected lifespan in normal use in is excess of 100 years even if left unpainted), means that these posts will be serviceable as quayside posts for generations to come.

The Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester is a District General Hospital serving much of central Hampshire and is one of three hospitals serving a population of approximately 600,000 across Hampshire and parts of west Berkshire. Just Floors were asked by the Hospital Trust directly to help out with a Health and Safety issue on around 70 steps that are located outside the main Hospital building. The steps run from the car park level that is situated at the top of a hill down to the main hospital building that is on a lower level.

The ChallengeFailing retaining wall needed to be stabilised and strengthened.The failing masonry wall, to the rear of Latches Close Social Housing, was braced with timber struts and remained like this for 10 years. The ‘temporary’ buttress was effective for a short time but then the wall began to move. The brick retaining wall had fractured at the corner which was a sign it was slowly inching forward. For fear of the wall’s collapse, the surrounding area was cordoned off with heras fencing. For health and safety reasons, the rear of the social housing was completely ‘out of bounds’.The wall couldn’t be taken down and replaced because there was a car sales elevated above. The car sales proprietor did not want his land to be affected. Clarion Housing Group contacted Engie to survey the failing wall and propose a solution. The SolutionSecura Grand was installed under the expert advice of Tobermore’s Civil Engineering Consultants.Engie had previously worked with Tobermore on other schemes and had experience using their Secura Grand Retaining Wall system. Following consultations with Tobermore’s Civil Engineering Consultants, Engie proposed Secura Grand as a solution to strengthen and stabilise the existing wall.Rather than replacing the entire wall, the existing wall and its timber buttress was incorporated into the retaining wall designs. This retaining wall project has restored land for the residents and property managers.

CHALLENGEIlam Park was a popular tourist destination in the Peak District with a parking problem. The main car park is paved with asphalt but their sloped overflow car park suffered from rutted, unsafe and uneven surfaces due to poor drainage and puddling. More asphalt would create water runoff and drainage problems elsewhere so a permanent and durable permeable paving solution was required.SOLUTIONHanpaveTM was chosen as it’s a freedraining system that’s tested to bear almost any vehicle. There are no more problems with rutting or uneven surfaces. It’s also highly durable, weather-resistant and made from 100% recycled plastic. ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems' expertise in transportation applications made us an ideal partner for the Doncaster Transport Interchange project. In working together with the project’s engineers, automatic sliding door systems were determined to be the optimal solution for the bus depot due their reliability and safety. The clean lines of the ASSA ABLOY sliding doors also complemented other elements of the broader French gate Centre urban renewal project, which includes an integrated train station and car park for visitors to the nearby city centre, in addition to the shopping mall.

The tower – the first of its kind anywhere – comes equipped with a speedy 600 ft (183 m) per minute elevator for the residence owner’s cars – allowing owners to park their vehicles right next to their apartments, no matter what floor, in their own sky garage

Before there was an open, 4" (100mm) diameter pipe that drained water from the back of this Devon farm house into the yard. Apart from an open pipe, which never looks good on a listed building, when it rained heavily there was water gushing out across the road causing havoc to any cars parked nearby. With the installation of the cast iron cowled conservation vent now the water is deflected downwards and the opening is no longer open to the elements and in eye line. With a choice of 100mm or 125mm spigots this cowled vent has many uses

The Flemingate redevelopment scheme was to transform a chemical works that had been derelict since 2005. The redevelopment of the site consisted of; a 500 space car park, a multi-screen cinema, an 80-room hotel, a college campus, office spaces and 130 new houses. The redevelopment was designed to suit the style of the existing town centre, transforming the brownfield site into a mixed use retail and leisure destination that seems to be a part of the original town. The transformation has had a positive impact on the local economy and increased the desirability of the destination.

The 18-storey Telereal development now known as The Helm, comprises 159 residential units, 2,800sqft of retail space and 37,000sqft of Grade A office and underground car parking, developed by Watkin Jones and utilising SPSenvirowall’s new and innovative Cavity System 1. The £300,000 façade package utilised a high-performing, buff flexible brick slip (SpeedySlip) and 100-150mm mineral wool to achieve a 0.20 u-value calculation. The application of brick slips to the Cavity System gives the Helm development a traditional and authentic finish desired by the client.

Bicester Village, one of the UK’s major outlet shopping villages, has recently undergone a major extension. The work has added additional shopping space and car parking, and Cembrit PB has been used as a render-backer on the exterior facades of the extension. Stockford, the contractor, installed 800m² of Cembrit PB to the steel frame structure and encapsulated it with the stunning MonoTherm TXF system manufactured and supplied by Monocouche Render Systems Ltd to achieve the decorative weather proof finish you see today at the premises.

Motorline Renault car showroom in Maidstone had an access issue during building, with customer showrooms and a meeting room spread between 2 floors. To open the showroom to everyone, a lift was required in the customer lounge. Gartec suggested an Aritco 7000 as a simple, low cost option which ticked all the boxes. Our team worked around their building schedule and the lift blends perfectly with the high end showroom. “Whilst we don’t use it very often, the lift is a perfect addition to make our entire showroom accessible to everyone” (Lin, Showroom Administrator)

Jaguar Land Rover established a new luxury show room in Watford earlier last year to accommodate the growing business needs of the local area. The new site, located in the Colne Valley Retail Park, facilitates an 18-car showroom and external display area as well as an MOT bay and valeting facilities. With around 50 fulltime employees, frequent visitors and a vast number of high value motor vehicles, it was imperative that the site was secured with adequate perimeter security and access control to ensure the safety of site personnel and protect commercial assets.

Following a successful park and ride facility in the west of the city and to reduce traffic further, an east park and ride facility comprising 1800 car parking spaces as part of a regeneration scheme. The park and ride design focused on sustainability and protecting local habitats. Due to restrictions on run off levels Cornwall council opted for Porous Paving. ABG Sudspave 40 permeable pavers were installed on free draining aggregate to enhance surface water drainage. Sudspave was supplied pre assembles for rapid installation. The panels can be filled with topsoil, gravel or seeded.

Quarry Bank is an old cotton mill in Cheshire, now operated by the National Trust it attracts large numbers of visitors daily. A permeable run off was required to allow the car park to be used without issue all year around as there had been problems with saturation previously. A solution was required without having to replace the first lift of soil that was already down. To stabilise the soft spots, Abweb back filled with the existing cappings meant further excavation was not required. Abgrid and Trigrid enabled the target CBR to be met with 30% less sub base needed.

Delta were employed to assist on this leaking podium deck project. Following a full assessment of The Hub and its underground parking facilities it was identified that rainwater was entering the basement car park through the ceiling deck at multiple points. These points included holes that were formed to allow drainage from the surface, movement joints and investigation holes that had been created through the steel rib and concrete deck. Based on “as built plans” a system was designed post construction that would offer the same quality of structural protection had it been incorporated during the build phase.

Five Xtralifts and two sets of Xtralift duplexes will support access-for-all to 153 apartments ranged over five and seven floors, in two distinct blocks. To match the heavy duty demand of this environment, the nine 8-person lifts are fitted with higher-grade stainless steel lift cars and Dewhurst push-button controls. Eight are traction, without motor rooms, and one is hydraulic, with a motor room. All the lifts have been installed with a range of options, with a mix of vandal-resistant categories 1 and 2. Two models are equipped as firefighter lifts.

Leonard Design Architects were appointed to create a residential development within a listed building setting with sloping site conditions. When sourcing hard landscaping for the development, Leonard Design Architects required attractive and modern paving for patios and car parking. However, they faced issues with the external areas due to the sloping site conditions. Tobermore’ Secura Grand Retaining Wall provided the solution to the sloping site issues while Tobermore Fusion block paving in contemporary tones of silver, mid grey, and graphite created the desired contemporary look.

The SSE Hydro is the biggest performance arena ever designed by Foster + Partners. Lang+Fulton have now supplied a decorative solution for the stage entrance constructed from their STEREO-KINETIC cladding system. Each stainless steel sheet is engraved with name of an artist, commemorating their performance. When the Hydro first opened in 2013 Lang+Fulton supplied the Roma-3 grating fence which secures the perimeter of the complex and storage compounds, as well as a Micro-15 balustrade for the elevated walkway which connects the car parking facilities with the venue. The new Vista apartments occupy an enviable location, close to Chelsea Bridge and overlooking Battersea Park. As a high-end residential project, the landscaping was given a high priority.Lang+Fulton were approached by the architects to propose a suitable stainless steel grating for pedestrian use, which would ventilate the underground car park. A grating with a heel proof mesh of 55x11mm was recommended and was designed with support beams and anchor bolts. The stainless steel was pickled and polished. In addition, 31m2 of galvanized mild steel grating with 66x33mm mesh was supplied for an area which was inaccessible to the public.

Finally, Rowland Gold turf was then installed with a drip line irrigation system installed under the turf. Westquay is an 800,000 square feet shopping centre spread over four levels and containing 150 retail units and restaurants. Furnitubes’ RailRoad range suited this site perfectly, allowing seating and planter modules to be joined and therefore be sufficiently heavy and stable to be used freestanding (so avoiding the need for intrusive foundations). Seating has been provided for up to 20 people, and 12 new planters introduce greenery to this previously somewhat austere building facade, creating an attractive setting for Westquay visitors to stop, rest for a moment and enjoy the outdoors on their walk between the car park and shopping centre.
