Glass balustrades on the balconies and runways – created by Q-railing – together with floor-to-ceiling curtain walls allow for stunning unobstructed views of the surrounding woodland. In total, 140 metres of stand-off balustrade were installed, with Easy Glass MOD 0763 glass adapters and stainless steel cap rails.

Designed in collaboration with Mumsnet, this landmark scheme involved the design, construction and fit-out of 117 chalets at the existing Butlin’s resort in Minehead. Architects Allison Pike Partnership worked with principal contractor McGoff & Byrne on this £16 million development built around two lakes with external terraced spaces and walkways, including a bridge. Each of the ‘seaside style’ chalets has an outside decked area with many of the properties featuring ecodek® balconies.

PROJECT OVERVIEW Seating needed to be extremely flexible, comfortable, intimate and that would accommodate in excess of 300 people. The seating on the balcony also had specific requirements, not only did they need to be removable but also needed to either face the stage or directly forward for performances below. SOLUTION We provided a bespoke seating solution, the main floor consisted of three retractable seating units with the outside two set at an angle to ‘embrace’ the stage and bring the audience as close as possible to the performance.

Neaco supplied a bespoke specification combining a railed Juliet balcony design with its contemporary glass balustrade to meet the aesthetic requirements of The Pembroke, a prestigious development of luxury apartments in Sevenoaks, Kent. Designed by BHD Architects, the project formed part of an extensive redevelopment of a site at the junction with London Road and Pembroke Road, and included the construction of a new apartment complex comprising 22 properties with parking at basement level. The scheme was designed to fit into the established pattern of development of the surrounding area, in terms of scale and appearance.

Canal Architectural were approached to design a bespoke staircase for the homeowner of a luxury apartment in the Liverpool area. The property owner worked closely with the Canal technical sales team to design a contemporary staircase that provided access to the upper balcony area of the apartment. The final result was the design and supply of a minimalist Cantilever staircase. The intelligent piece of engineering anchored in at only one end, allowing the the protruding construction to overhang. Finally, dark stained oak treads were added to the Cantilever structure in line with latest design trends of natural and urban finishes.

IKO Permatec Hot Melt was used in the gutters and balconies where a bison slab was used for the deck. On the main roof area was a timber deck and the preferred system for this was a built-up bituminous membrane system. IKO Challenger 180 nailed layer, IKO Systems Torch-on Underlay and IKO Superflex Cap Sheet were installed. Difficult details were overcome by using IKO Polimar EC/UV cold liquid applied system, then a scattering of mineral was applied whilst still wet to provide a matching finish to the bituminous membrane.

Coloured matched finely-finished balconies and window frames complete the look, with natural landscaping and pathways, all designed to blend in to the development’s calming waterside backdrop.

The Garden State Hotel is an iconic building in Melbourne. Accoya was chosen for a feature wall in the balcony dining room – a VIP space that looks out over the rest of the venue. Charred Accoya was used for the feature wall to add to the secluded and private feeling of the venue. The Accoya cladding was lined with a polyurethane finish. Other sections of the feature wall were finished with Woca internal maintenance oil. Accoya was also chosen due to its incredible finish and its ability to adapt to the unique and fresh looks offered by modern architecture.

Newry Town Hall's seating was replaced as part of the second phase of a major refurbishment. The Espace 628 seats offer outstanding comfort as well as a high-specification look. The stalls chairs are deployed on “Matrix” removable floorbars – the whole system is completely removable with no need for floor fixings, and can be stacked on trolleys. Matching tread fixed seats are installed on the balcony. “The seating looks amazing, and the colour scheme works really well in the hall. The installers were very friendly, and worked incredibly hard to get the job done."

The main roof area and the side ballroom roof, 3000m2 in total, were waterproofed with Permatec Hot Melt system with an extruded insulation MK layer paved walkways and 20/40 gravel ballast to the remaining areas. The Plant room roof 500M2 1.8 Sarnafil Light Grey mech fixed to metal deck and insulation. Level 8 a secret gutter was waterproofed by Hyflex using Exemplar liquid applied waterproofing,above the gutter marine ply was installed to joists to create as balcony which was subsequently waterproofed by Hyflex again using Exemplar BW system.

PROJECT OVERVIEW Chobham academy required a flexible seating solution to enable their theatre to be used as multi- purpose space. With performances, rehearsals and lessons taking place in the hall a seating system that could be quickly closed away at the touch of a button was a key requirement. SOLUTION Hussey Seatway installed an electrically operated retractable seating system with 161 Sports benches. Special features included integral folding side rails to reduce the set up time plus a custom row rise on the platforms was designed to allow access to be gained from the seating unit to the side balconies.

SOLUTION After intensive design meetings we developed a scheme that would ultimately provide a bespoke seating solution for the theatre. The Gallery Extra chair was the specified seating type, chosen for it’s outstanding levels of comfort and high specification finish. In total 140 chairs were provided on power operated TP retractable platforms with an additional 138 fixed chairs for the balcony.

This 12 year old, sea-facing property suffered from pink algae growth affecting the textured through-colour render and copings stones. There was a leak to the external staircase and the balcony downspout, which caused staining and what appeared to be salt efflorescence; this area required attention prior to decoration. KEIM Royalan was specified on the sea-facing elevation to protection the property from harsh weather conditions and give a long lasting, colour-fast and decorative matt finish. KEIM Lotexan was applied onto the coping stones to help shed water and reduce algae growth.

A contractor client was working on a retro-fit balcony and flat roof project in Brighton. The waterproofing membrane had tapered insulation placed on top and the contractor discovered ballasting the insulation was needed, only once on the roof. The door thresholds were too tight for a traditional decking system with joists. Wallbarn advised for paving slabs on 9mm rubber pads; then 30mm thick ipe timber tiles mounted onto Adjustable Pedestals. The buildup was under 100mm and the overall finish of the tropical hardwood was glorious. The architect was relieved that we could produce a solution, the client was delighted.

The balconies on each home feature Neaco’s Techdek decking as well as their Elan semi-structural balustrade system with aluminium stanchions and handrails in a grey powder coated finish. The result is an attractively minimalist aesthetic in keeping with the development’s modern design and finish.

CROCKER Spearheading an ambitious programme of regeneration, Canada Water Library resembles an inverted ‘ziggurat’ – a terraced pyramid of successively receding storeys – that partly overhangs the Canada Water basin. Finished in bronze anodised aluminium, the MX SSG structural sealant glazing and CD commercial doors have been specified for the ground floor. MX Visible Grid is being used for the strips of curtain walling to the three upper floors, with MX top hung concealed vents and PXi doors providing access to the balconies.
