A £1.1 million renovation at Beths Grammar School in Bexley, Greater London included a new ultra-modern reception with full height glazing. Ingleton Wood LLP architects specified aluminium solar shading by Dales Fabrications with the Shadex 260 elliptical blade to reduce solar gain and solar glare. The Shadex 260 blade because it is self supporting up to 5m centres, making it ideal for the apex of the very large over-hanging canopy above the new main entrance. It was specified in combination with a low maintenance curved Aluminium Fascia Soffit and Meridian wall coping system, both manufactured by Dales.

Providing a high architectural aesthetic, Techdek is extremely versatile and can be used in many other applications, including staging, modesty screens, solar shading, maintenance galleries and roof access walkways.

The intricate facade on Garden Halls was inspired by the existing large-scale Victorian and Edwardian buildings that populate Bloomsbury, such as the Russell Square Hotel and Victoria House. The windows employ a very thin profile section, achieved with Reynaers CS 38-SL systems, and have a decorated, perforated aluminium screen to the side. This uses an insulated panel that can be opened from the inside for ventilation. The lower level screens are bronze-coloured anodised aluminium, while the upper screens are powder coated.

Large-framed Crittall Windows complement the industrial aesthetic and gives the building a unique character and identity of its own. Dales designed & manufactured curved aluminium solar shading units installed above digital advertising screens positioned over each side of the Hyde Park Corner underpass near Knightsbridge. The 260mm Shadex elliptical aluminium blade extrusions were rotated 45° and then curved to multiple radii horizontally before being manufactured into cassettes. The complete structure covers an area 15 by 13 metres with the cassettes bolted into cantilevered structural steels. Gary Newton, Director for Outdoor Plus, providers of the digital screens commented that the curved solar shades: “..certainly do finish it off to a very high specification adding to the overall high-quality aesthetic appearance”

In the development of the fenestration and curtain wall systems for Great Marlborough Street Reynaers worked closely with envelope contractors Baris Facades in order to develop no fewer than 6 bespoke cap profiles. One ensured that the insulated aluminium panels, which are a feature of the building, glazed flush with the curtain wall cap profiles. Another feature of Students Castle is the distinctive protruding box detail around the windows of the towers headed by aluminium louvre panels accommodated by bespoke capping. Further bespoke elements facilitate the omission of mullions on certain window positions, as part of the distinctive design.

Among the fairways of the former Humberston Golf Course, meticulously designed residences were constructed by Cyden Homes to take maximum advantage of the natural environment. It was important that the chosen rainwater system emulated the uniqueness of the buildings’ exteriors. Yeoman Rainguard’s SL Aluminium products were chosen, in a milled finish. SL Aluminium half round 125 x 75mm gutters and 75mm dia. down pipes were installed on the residences with Plain Cast Aluminium Hoppers added to some out buildings. Aluminium rainwater systems are easy and quick to fit saving on site installation times when fitting to multiple units.
