Surespan provided a steel SAC Flush Cover to measure 2743 (9'-0") x 4572mm (15'-0"). The cover was reinforced to support a live slow moving wheel load of 16 Tonnes. They were operated via a hydraulic cylinder and an electrically driven power pack. The cover was finished in SureGrip Non-Slip surface coating. Two bespoke, 8m-spanning Rundum Original side sliding garage doors have played a key role in enabling Evans Vettori architects to deliver on their thoughtful, sensitive vision for the modern new premises of a well-established firm of funeral directors in Buxton. The building’s high quality design and excellent build standard by NSJ Contractors, which resulted in it making the shortlist of the East Midlands RIBA Regional Awards 2020, blends key aspects of the local vernacular with modern design and material choices, including a zinc standing seam roof that extends to form the outward-facing façade.

The louvred panels were inverted to provide maximum visual screening from ground level.

Working with main contractor Galliford Try, TORMAX created an elegant lobby by positioning a set of automatic sliding doors between the three-wing revolving door and main foyer. To one side of the revolving door is located an automatic swing door, offering an alternative for less able users.

As part of their expansion, The Wild Place Project (Bristol Zoo Network) enlisted our help in the construction of their new Giraffe Enclosure. The £1m purpose-built giraffe home was constructed over 1.8 acres and needed bespoke doors to suit the needs of the giraffes. HAG designed special doors in-house; the doors needed to be sliding to allow easy access for the zoo keepers, insulated and, obviously, rather tall to accommodate the giraffes comfortably! The giraffe enclosure has been a huge success with the public and HAG truly enjoyed being part of such a unique project.

Powermatic controlled, concealed door closers have been used on luxury apartments at Riverwalk House, Millbank. The hi-spec interiors feature a light, airy décor, with contrasting dark oak apartment doors and panels. Architects, Stanton Williams specified concealed fittings for all apartment entrance doors to ensure that nothing spoiled the appearance. Jason White of Stanton Williams comments, “We chose the Powermatic concealed door closer as it meets the necessary fire and accessibility requirements and, just as importantly for this project, it is hidden from view when the door is closed, helping to retain a clean appearance to doors and interiors.”

The waiting room at Houton Pier on The Mainland of the Orkney Islands was cold and draughty due to a weather-damaged door opening directly into the waiting area. An extension was built to create a weather break and fitted with record FTA 20 automatic folding doors which minimise the time the door is open to the elements but still provides good access. The doors are activated by a radar presence sensor for two way traffic. The old door was also replaced with a THERMCORD sliding door with energy efficient core panels to further reduce the ingress of cold air.

Preventive fire and smoke protection and fully functional escape routes and emergency exits were top of the list when planning the doors and barriers. T90 fire and smoke protection doorsets were used for highly frequented areas with a higher risk of fire and the gallery and escape routes between the individual fire compartments were fitted with single and double-leaf T30 doorsets with round glazing. Access points to the individual levels were equipped with T30 sliding doors and T30 sectional doors.

The entrance was required to be robust, safe, quiet in operation and stylish in appearance. record installed two 3000 mm wide, clear toughened glass, STA 20 sliding doors. Their secure, elegant and efficient operation is guaranteed by a self-controlling microprocessor which continually monitors inputs, including from the three safety sensors, and adjusts performance accordingly. In the event of a power failure the doors can be programmed to remain secure or to open to allow emergency access.

Early discussion with Forza regarding project floor plans and elevations enabled the Forza team to prepare veneer layons that fully utilised the potential of the species distinctive decorative features and then create panel layout drawings in order that product delivered to site was clearly sequentially numbered for installation. Incorporated in the project joinery component package for Forza were items such as skirting and lift surrounds in addition to mirror frames and IPS panels for “Boutique” style washrooms.
