Description

Mechanically fixed external wall insulation (EWI) system, using mineral fibre (MF) insulation and a specially designed mineral one-coat render with a scraped finish.

Features and benefits:

  • Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC)/ hydrochlorofluorocarbon (HCFC) free.
  • Provides weather protection.
  • Low maintenance and durable.
  • A wide range of finish coat colours are available.
  • Can be used for decorating and re-modelling existing facades.
  • Helps to increase energy efficiency.
  • One-coat application, significantly reducing the ‘programme of works’ and all associated costs.
  • Creates a 'warm wall' construction.
  • High strength mechanical fixings allow for installation to friable surfaces.
  • BBA approved.
  • When installed and maintained in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations, the system will remain effective for at least 30 years. The durability can be extended to 60 years by using specific fixings, accessories, additional adhesive and by following a planned inspection and maintenance schedule. Consult manufacturer for details.

Applications:

Suitable for use in refurbishment and new build projects without height restrictions - can be used above 18 m in England and Wales, and above 11 m for Scotland to comply with appropriate Building Regulations. For installation onto new, sound brick/ blocks, or existing rendered/ un-rendered sound masonry.

System components:

  • Weber fixings as specified for the substrate.
  • webertherm MFD insulation (of specified thickness).
  • weber standard meshcloth.
  • webertherm M1.

The installation must be capable of resisting all dead loads and design live loads, including impact and wind loads, and accommodate all thermal movements without damage.

System installation is to be strictly in accordance with Saint-Gobain Weber specification. Please note that any other manufacturer's products used within the system will invalidate the guarantee, and the performance cannot be supported.

Remedial work must be completed prior to the installation of Weber EWI Systems.

Recommendations:

  • For buildings with a floor equal to or greater than 18 m above ground level, supplementary adhesive (weberend LAC) must be used to bond the insulation to the substrate - consult manufacturer for details.
  • It is recommended for the contractors/ clients design team to ensure the system installed meets the building regulations requirements along with undertaking design liability for the building in its entirety including compliance with supplementary guidance such as BR 135. Weber external wall insulation systems incorporating mineral fibre insulation with a suitable fire tested finish (contact Weber for further details) achieve a reaction to fire classification of A2, s1, d0. Systems achieving this classification or better are considered suitable for use on, or at any distance from, a boundary without height restriction. In addition to the main wall fixings, appropriate fire fixings (stainless steel as per BRE 135) should also be installed at a rate of 1/m² minimum across the whole area receiving the system.
  • Fixings must penetrate the structure in accordance with the fixing design to provide the appropriate pull out resistance. A survey of the building must be completed by an engineer to ensure the additional load does not have a detrimental effect on the building and the fixings are able to sufficiently penetrate the structure, to suitably support the Weber system. Weber will undertake fixing pull out tests and verify the adequacy of the fixing design based on a wind loading assessment carried out in accordance with BS EN 1991-1-4: 2005.
