Sonaroll Acoustic Roller Shutters

Acoustic roller shutters combine several features/ benefits in one high-quality aesthetic design. In addition to acting as a secure and weatherproof closure, the shutter offers a high degree of thermal and acoustic insulation.

Extensively tested at the Department of Acoustics at Salford University, the door achieved a sound reduction of 27 dB Rw: a considerably high value. An augmented double-curtain version is available, which reduces sound transmission by 32 dB.

The shutters are available in large sizes (doors up to 10 metres high have been supplied), and are also available in a 25 dB two-hour fire-rated version.

Features and benefits:

• Curtain: constructed from 100 mm flat section galvanized steel laths with acoustic infill and nylon end locks, fitted to alternate laths to prevent lateral movement. The bottom rail comprises a steel capping channel fitted with an integral rubber seal.

• Guides: the side guides are formed from galvanized steel with twin brush strips, and prepared for fixing to the opening structure by means of continuous fixing angles.

• End plates: fabricated from carbon steel of adequate thickness relative to door size, and supplied with angles for fixing to the structure.

• Roller: the roller is manufactured from carbon steel tube of sufficient diameter and wall thickness to resist deflection, and is mounted on bearings or in cups on each end plate.

• Operation: electrical operation is by means of a direct drive 400 V, three-phase geared motor mounted on the outside of one end plate. The motor has an inherent safety brake, thus meeting all relevant health and safety requirements, and the standard unit is pre-wired to obviate the need for a site electrician.

Applications:

Suitable for external openings where the acoustic envelope must be maintained, such as power stations, but equally suitable in internal applications where they act as a sound-break between two rooms, e.g. exhibition halls.
